Loading Type: DELETE/INSERT

Hi,
OWB 9.2.0.x
I need to develop logic wherein the target rows would be deleted based on a condition (column value already present), and then insert new rows.
The DELETE/INSERT Loading Type on Target is just doing a blanket delete where criteria matches and inserting fresh rows, instead of deleting just those rows that match the criteria.
An alternative was to have a lookup, and take that to a splitter, and send matching row to a TARGET with Loading Type set to DELETE, and other set to another copy of the TARGET with Loading Type set to INSERT.
This also does not work properly, and behaves inconsistently.
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Regards
Jojo

To put in an example:
We have to delete the records matching the input(staging), and then reinsert them.
That is input records will be like
1 a
1 c
5 a
5 b
3 a
Target may have something like
1 a
1 b
1 c
2 a
2 b
3 a
All records with first field as 1, 2 or 3 in staging should be deleted from target, and then the full staging gets inserted.
Final target would then become
1 a
1 c
2 a
2 b
5 a
5 b
3 a
An alternate solution that comes to mind is
Implement a delete mapping, and then do the inserts. But this would require two passes through the staging data.

  • Load Type as INSERT/UPDATE ?

    Hi,
I would like to use load type INSERT/UPDATE. So would it create any performance issue when compareted to the load type as INSERT. Is it considerable?
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Gowtham Sen.

    Hi
That depends completely on the data you are reading in (your source) and how often the row exists in the target table. The idea to choose between INSERT/UPDATE and UPDATE/INSERT is if you know that most of the data is new you choose the first one but if most of the data already exists you choose the latter. But the code generated in the end will be a MERGE statement so it won't matter much.
To make sure you get the best performance in case your ETL will have to to many updates as well as inserts is to make sure that the matching criteria on the target is indexed.

Thanks Purvesh for your quick response..
Yes you are right, we have to prefer sql rather than plsql. But if i have 1 lakh records to be inserted then my insert into select will do insert one by one that mean context switching is more to server i.e 1 lakh.
If i use BULK COLLECT+ FORALL then in a single switch the lakh records will be inserted right?
I agree that when we have less number of records to insert we can prefer insert into select, if we have huge data then why not FORALL ?
You have just tested for 107 records, but in huge data it is different right?
    Thanks,
VinodYou've misunderstood how it works, I think. When you do the "insert into ... select", Oracle works out what rows need to be inserted and does them in one fell swoop. That's 2 context switches only, with the bulk of the work being done by the SQL engine.
When you do the BULK COLLECT + FORALL, you're telling Oracle to first identify the rows (that's two context switches straight off; one from PL/SQL to SQL and then back to PL/SQL again), load them into a collection, then loop through the collection and insert the records X rows at a time (which could be all records or whatever you set as the LIMIT on the FORALL) (again, with the context switching between PL/SQL and SQL and back again through each loop).
Which one sounds like it does the least amount of work? Not the BULK COLLECT, right?

  • Using the Loading type

    Hi,
I have a mapping which loads the incremental data every week. Before loading the date , i want check the records in the target. If it exists then i would like to update the records in the target.I used the loading type of INSERT/UPDATE in the target.
When i try to validate the mapping, it is giving the error that 'Missing update maching criteria in the target'.
Can you please let me know where i can use this criteria. Also can you give me the sample condition, that we can give.
    Thanks
    Vinay

When using the insert/upadte loading type, OWB must discriminate between new and existing incomming records (the new records in the target are inserted, the existing - updated). This can be done either by using the target keys (as proposed by the previous poster) or by explicitely specifying what fields must be matched in the target for an incomming record to be considered 'existing' (the matching criteria).
If you want to match by target keys, set the 'Match by constraints' property of the target to 'All constraints'.
If you want to use another criteria (another target field or a kombination of fields), set this constraint to 'No constraints' and then go field by field on the target to set the loading properties (right-click on the target field and select 'Attribute Properties').
There you will set the Load Column when Updating (meaning wheather the column will be updated during the update operation), Load column when Inserting (whether the column will be loaded in an insert operation), Match Column when Updating (whether the column will be used for matching during an update), Update operation (usually '=' - the operation that will be performed to match incoming records with the existing records in the target) and match column when deleting ( whether the column will be used for matching during a delete).
In other words, the 'update column' fields are the set ... fields of an update statement, the 'match column' are the where ... columns of the same statement, while the '=' is the opreration performed in the where part of the update statement.

  • INSERT Loading Type not working correctly?

    Hi,
I'm using ver. 9.2.0.2.8 for the owb client, and ver. 9.2.0.2 for the repository. I'm currently encountering this problem when using the INSERT loading type for loading data into one of my staging tables. It's a simple simple mapping really:
I have a source table (A) that maps to a filter operator, which is then mapped to a staging table(B).
The problem is, when I run the mapping to INSERT data from A into an already populated B, not all the desired records are inserted. Weird thing is, when I run the code from generating the intermediate result in TOAD or whatever, I get the desired results. So that kinda rules out any doubts on the select statement generated by OWB.
Out of 23 records I get like 6.. just 6 of the 23 records I was hoping to be inserted into B.
And yes, none of the remaining 17 records are present in A, so INSERT should (ideally) work fine and carry out inserting all the 23 records.
    Any ideas? ..

  • How to get only updated records for a column using loading type INSERT

    Hi,
    Good morning all,
    I have source1 containg 3 columns bill_cd,bill_desc,bill_date and
    source2 has the columns bill_cd,bill_key,source_id.
My target has the columns bill_cd,bill_date,bill_desc .
Now the requirement is, bill_cd in target should not repeated when we run the mapping more than one thime. it should get only updated records not the previous records using only INSERT Loading type(for target) not to use update/insert.
How can we achieve this logic in mapping level.
Anybody Please give me some solution immediately.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Siv

    Thanks Herzog for your reply,
Here bill_cd is not unique. Yes,I want only new records using INSERT as loading type. Suppose when the map runs for the first time, bill_cd is loaded with values 1 to 5.
Now, in the source I have got new records 6 to 10 for bill_cd and when I run the mapping again I need to get only records for bill_cd from 6 to 10 using INSERT as loading type.
Is it possible to achieve this at mapping level?

  • Using delete/insert mode operator target in mapping

    Hello Guys,
Can you help me please to resolve my problem. It's very urgent.
I use OWB 10gR2 and I create a mapping for loading data from table to table.
I got a source table A that I want to integrate into a table B.
I want to put my target table B on delete/insert mode to delete data from B where A.annee = B.annee
    before inserting data from A.
    How to configure this mapping.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.
    fanfita.

you dont have to do anything in particular:
on the target table propperties click on the load type as Delete/Insert and specify the column which you need to check while deleting this can be done by clicking on the column of target table in your mapping and setting the properties such as "load while insert/delete/update etc" , you got to check the delete option of the columns that you want to check while deleting.
If your target table has sequence then delete and insert will generate new sequence id and i am not sure if there is a Foregin key which needs to be considered here so it might be a better option to use update/insert
if there are no dependencies at all then you can go for delete/insert option.

  • DELETE/INSERT

    Hi,
Am working on a Mapping that requires a delte insert functionality. That is, the rows in target matching a specific column should only be deleted.
So, modified loading type to delete/insert, match by constraints to none, and then set match column when deleting to yes for the specific column
The mapping is but doing a blanket delete. Can somebody suggest a workaround or tell where the problem is.
    OWB 9.2.0.2
    Regards
    Jojo

OK. I have partitioned the fact table based on year and changed the loading type to TRUNCATE/INSERT. Under "Conditional Loading" I have set the 'Target Filter for Delete' to INOUTGRP1.YEAR='2004'.
When I execute the mapping to replace data for year 2004, all the data is deleted (including the data for year 2003) and the new 2004 data is inserted. How can I just replace the data for year 2004 and leave the data for year 2003 intact?

  • Process Type - Delete overlapping requests from an Info Cube

I have read many threads on this topic, still have some questions. To give you background, I will be doing delta load (“delta” process chain). But before delta, I want to do setup initialization (“init” process chain). I want to use this process type in my “init” process chain” to delete all data in my cube loaded from a specific ods. I cannot use delete all contents process type because many ods’s feed the same cube.
    1.     Do you put this process type after Load Data or before Load Data. I have seen both cases in SDN forums.
    2.     Variant of this process type is an info package. Does this info package have to be same as in load data step or it can be different.
    3.     I want to delete all data in cube which was loaded from my ods. Term overlapping is confusing to me. Will this process type delete all data or not.
    Tanks in advance.

Yes, you can do that. Goto RSPC - under process types Load Process and Post Processing, you will see DELETE OVERLAP REQUESTS FROM INFOCUBE option is there.
Select the proper check boxes like same sourcesystem, same datasource etc...
If it is one time deletion, why not do that manually?
Also check: How to delete most recent request in a Cube by using process chain

Looking in class viewer there is no com.plumtree.portaluiinfrastructure.activityspace.PlumHandler class in the com.plumtree.portaluiinfrastructure.activityspace. Is there a class file missing ?

Quick fix: Add the file "PlumHandler.cs" (found in the root of your portal webapp directory) to your portal50 project.
Proper fix: You should not be recompiling the entire UI and redeploying it, which is what you are doing (or you would not get that error).
You should create a new project, compile only the classes you want to modify into a new Assembly DLL file, add that new DLL to the webapp bin directory, and add that Assembly name to the CustomActivitySpaces.xml config file. (It should have the same format as ActivitySpaces.xml file.)
That way, you will not overwrite or delete standard portal classes, and you will also find it much easier to upgrade or apply patches in the future.

  • OWB -- Load Type Property Setting

    Hi,
Mapping is done in OWB for source(Sybase) and Target(Oracle).
Now, can any one please tell that what values are required to set for source(operater -- load type) and target(operater -- load type).
    Thanks in advance.
    Amit Shah.

    Hi Amit,
You can go to the target table and do a right click...choose operator properties...There you have the option of changing the loading stratergy like insert or insert\update etc...
you can also decide on how to load your target table...i.e insert w.r.t your PK or UI...

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that SharePoint Online Site was unable to load web part and got the “Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpgradeCompatibilityException” error.
Per my knowledge, the SPUpgradeCompatibilityException occurs during upgrade when the front-end Web server attempts to connect to an incompatible database.
Please check whether the database is compatible.
Regarding SharePoint Online, for quick and accurate answers to your questions, it is recommended that you initial a new thread in Office 365 forum.

  • Process type "Delete overlapping request in cube " in process chain

    Hi
can somebody suggest me where i need to place the process type "Delete overlapping request" for an infocube.
    Regards,

    Hi,
When you use the corresponding process in the process
chain maintenance screens to specify the conditions for
automatic deletion, these conditions are applied to all
the InfoCubes for the selected InfoPackages
Overlapping: If you set this indicator, existing requests are also
delete from the InfoCube if the selection criteria of the new request partially or wholly overlap the selection criteria of the request to be deleted
Same or Comprehensive: If you set this indicator,
requests are only deleted from the InfoCube if
the selection conditions of the new request are
the same as or more comprehensive than the selection
conditions of the request to be deleted.
    Thanks
    Bhagesh
