Local_listener,remote_listener problem
Dear All,
2node 10.2.0.0.3 rac cluster,O/S:redhat 5.6
I recently migrated our database from single instance to rac 2 node cluster using rconfig .I am using shared spfile for both the instances shared from ocfs2.I am unable to start the instances using SRVCTL which gives below error
ORA-00119: invalid specification for system parameter LOCAL_LISTENER
ORA-00119: invalid specification for system parameter REMOTE_LISTENER
But when i start the instances from sqlplus the above errors are not comming.I am very much confused.Tried everything...but no resolution.
Regards
Hi,
Recommendation : Set these (local_listener,remote_listener) parameter using scope=both instead scope=spfile, it’s will validade if the all Listener alias is working. If you use scope=spfile, it will not validaded and if not was configured properly the error will be raised at moment of startup of database instance.
Maybe you have 2 different spfile. OCR (srvctl) is pointing to one location and SQLPLUS is using default location $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
Check wich SPFILE is configured on OCR
$ srvctl config database -d <db_name> -a ### Edited: I don't realize but "Kuljit Pal Singh" already pointed this matter above.
Is easy fix it.
connect as sysdba on database the instance can be inactive.
SQL> create pfile='<path>/pfile.txt' from spfile;Edit your pfile with correct Listener Alias and start your database in nomount state using pfile then recreate spfile on right location.

LOCAL_LISTENER syntex problem error
While installing Java -Add-in on ABAP server (NW 2004s), i'm getting the following error.
i'm getting the problem while implemeting the Central
Instance Java Add-in step. It failed to start the Java Engine. (Pls see
the attachment). When i checked the system on operating system level,
BSN was down. I try to re-start it with Startsap but system was not
able to start the oracle database. As orabsn, i tried to start the
database at sql level (sqlplus "/as sysdba" --> Startup), but it failed
with the following message:

*.local_listener='LISTENER_BSN'
but as oracle is down right now, i'm not able to change this parameter.
Pls let us know how to fix this problem..Hi,
Sure this will solve your problem but it is better to put the entry in tnsnames.ora
tnsnames.ora:

Steps to do switchover / switchback in RAC environment
Hi folks,
I m having setup with 2 node RAC primary and 2 node RAC Dataguard on 10.2.0.4.0. Dataguard setup is working fine. Dataguard is setup with Standby Redo log group with managed recovery. There is no problem with transferring archives & applying on standby.
Now I want to do Switchover/Switchback between Primary and Standby for RAC. I am familiar with Single instance Switchover and Switchback but never did RAC environment Switchover/Switchback. Can anybody please elaborate steps or suggest any link for me??
regards,
manishHi Guys,
Today I performed RAC Switchover / Switchback for 2 Node Primary with 2 Node Standby on OEL. I expected some issues, but it was totally smooth. Giving you steps for the same, so it will be useful to you. Even this would be my first contribution to Oracle Forums.
DB Name DB Unique Name Host Name Instance Name
live live linux1 live1
live live linux2 live2
live livestdby linux3 livestdby1
live livestdby linux4 livestdby2
Verify that each database is properly configured for the role it is about to assume and the standby database is in mounted state.
(Verify all Dataguard parameters on each node for Primary & Standby)
Like,
Log_archive_dest_1
Log_archive_dest_2
Log_archive_dest_state_1
Log_archive_dest_state_2
Fal_client
Fal_server
Local_listener
Remote_listener
Standby_archive_Dest
Standby_archive_management
service_names
db_unique_name
instance_name
db_file_name_convert
log_file_name_convert
Verify that both Primary RAC & Dataguard RAC are functioning properly and both are in Sync
On Primary,
Select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$archived_log group by thread#;
On Standby,
Select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$log_history group by thread#;
Before performing a switchover from a RAC primary shut down all but one primary instance (they can be restarted after the switchover has completed).
./srvctl stop instance –d live –i live1
Before performing a switchover or a failover to a RAC standby shut down all but one standby instance (they can be restarted after the role transition has completed).
./srvctl stop instance –d live –i livestdby1
On the primary database initiate the switchover:
alter database commit to switchover to physical standby with session shutdown;
Shutdown former Primary database & Startup in Mount State.
Shut immediate;
Startup mount;
select name,db_unique_name, log_mode,open_mode,controlfile_type,switchover_status,database_role from v$database;
Make log_Archive_Dest_state_2 to DEFER
alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2='DEFER' sid='*';
On the (old) standby database,
select name,log_mode,open_mode,controlfile_type,switchover_status,database_role from v$database;
On the (old) standby database switch to new primary role:
alter database commit to switchover to primary;
shut immediate;
startup;
On new Primary database,
select name,log_mode,open_mode,controlfile_type,switchover_status,database_role from v$database;
Make log_Archive_Dest_state_2 to ENABLE
alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2='ENABLE' sid='*';
Add tempfiles in New Primary database.
Do some archivelog switches on new primary database & verify that archives are getting transferred to Standby database.
On new primary,
select error from v$archive_Dest_status;
select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log;
On new Standby, Start Redo Apply
alter database recover managed standby database using current logfile disconnect;
Select max(sequence#) from v$log_history; (should be matching with Primary)
Now Start RAC databases services (both Primary – in open & Standby – in mount)
On new Primary Server.
./srvctl start instance –d live –i livestdby2
Verify using ./crs_stat –t
Check that database is opened in R/W mode.
On new Standby Server.
./srvctl start instance –d live –i live2 –o mount
Now add TAF services on new Primary (former Standby) Server.
By Command Prompt,
./srvctl add service -d live -s srvc_livestdby -r livestdby1,livestdby2 -P BASIC
OR
By GUI,
dbca -> Oracle Read Application Cluster database -> Service Management -> select database -> add services, details (Preferred / Available), TAF Policy (Basic / Preconnect) - > Finish
Start the services,
./srvctl start service -d live
Verify the same,
./crs_stat -t
Perform TAF testing, to make sure Load Balancing & Failover.

manish

Why remote listener is used in RAc environment
why remote listener is used in RAc environment
I'm sure there is something in some concepts papers anywhere on tahiti.
But as I'm as lazy to search as you are, I will try to answer:
local_listener is the listener which serves the instances which register to it (as local_listener).
remote_listener(s) should be all the listeners which serve the other instances belonging to the database.
every pmon tells all the local and remote listeners the load of the system where it resists.
In server side load balancing, the listener will redirect the client to the listener on the system with the lowest load.

Does anyone know why it takes so long for XE to register TNS Listener. I can only start connecting to SQL Developer (3.0) roughly about 12-15 minutes after starting up the Database, then it's fine:

Is LISTENER_ hostname mandatory for failover?
Oracle Version:10.2.0.4, 11gR2
Platform : Solaris 5.10
Isn't the default listener (LISTENER) enough for enabling failovers within RAC nodes. I've been told that,on eache node, you must create non-deafault listeners with the naming convention
LISTENER_<hostname>to enable failovers between nodes. Is it true?In pre 11g, when you install Oracle Clusterware, Oracle by default create listener LISTENER_hostname. I don;t think there is a specific requirement to use this naming convention. The important thing is that your database parameters LOCAL_LISTENER , REMOTE_LISTENER are set correctly so that PMON processes of database instances are aware of database services running on each database instance.
Regarding 11g, Oracle use SCAN and local listener both and you may find end points that listener is listening on, in the listener.ora file. Please refer http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/clustering/overview/scan-129069.pdf

Stuck in the listener entry step in DUPLICATE OF RAC databases
I am trying to duplicate with RMAN a new RAC db from production RAC db.
I am done with the following steps:
1). backup prod database with rman
2). copy init file over and modity entries not to reflect rac paramters...
3). create a password file for new db
now I got stuck on step 4) Create a static listener entry for your new database and reload the listener as appropriate.
This step is necessary, because an RMAN duplicate uses an auxiliary database that is in no mount and therefore will not automatically register itself with the listener(s) as specified by local_listener, remote_listener and or the default, 1521.
For example:
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = rman.colestock.test)
(ORACLE_HOME = /u03/app/oracle/product/db/10.2)
(SID_NAME = rman2)
The above is instruciton I got.
However I got very confused here:
First, on the RAC server, I added sid entry at the bottom of listener.ora. and the tnsnames entry looks like this:
abc =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xxxxxx76)(PORT = 1528))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =xxxxxx 77)(PORT = 1528))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = abc_service)
How do I add a sid entry in the tnsnames.ora file? Since I supposed to create a single db first, not rac, do I have to put service_name or sid name there?
ANother confusion is how to reload the listener? Since this is a RAC server, two nodes has two listenrs: abc_listener1, abc_listener2. Do I have to stop and start listner by svrctl stop the dynamic listener?
Please if you can, provide detailed steps here how to create static listener in tnsnames entry and listener entry on a RAC environment and then reload the listener.
I have to finish up the duplication this weekend. So any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.user569151 wrote:

Anyone have any ideas? Could the difference between DB_NAME (select name from v$database) and SID_NAME (select instance from v$thread) be confusing things?Perhaps I'm missing something, but you you're trying to connect using connect identifier 'infradb', but your tnsnames.ora only has an entry for 'INFRADB.EIA.DOE.GOV', i.e. you've put the service name where you should just have put the connect identifer that you want to use.
To connect 'user/pass@infradb', your tnsnames.ora should be:
INFRADB =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = elecidc210g.eia.doe.gov)(PORT = 1530))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = infradb.eia.doe.gov)

waiting for fast response, as my installtion is pending due to this problem.
have a nice day.
Regards,
Shivendra.Hi,
The following should be verified:
(1) check what DB instances the listener currently is aware of. This can be done with the command 'lsnrctl services'.
(in case you listener does not have the default name LISTENER, then use 'lsnrctl services <listener name>' )
(2) Perhaps there is an issue with the dynamic instance registration, even though the error code is different, you should nevertheless check the points from note #563574.
(3) Verfiy the value of the parameter local_listener (see mentioned note). Since you have changed the listener, the parameter might still be wrong.
In case local_listener is correcly set you should give the command
ALTER SYSTEM REGISTER;
a try.

9.2 and 10g on same machine, listener problem
Hi,
i had a 10g db on a solaris server. then i installed a 9.2 database on this server. I know that i should use the 10g listener for 9.2 database.
But i cant manage to configure it correctly.
The 10g listener name is LISTENER and 9.2 listener name is TPRS.
what i did ? i opened netmgr and created a new listener named TPRS. added the database to it.(on the menu database services)
when i try to start TPRS i get the following error message
bash-2.05$ lsnrctl start TPRS

The discussion is overlooking the obvious
TNSLSNR for Solaris: Version 10.1.0.4.2 - Production
System parameter file is /oracleAS/app/oracle/product/10.1.2.0.2/infra/network/admin/listener.ora

TNS-01201: Listener cannot find executable /oracleAS/TPRS/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.1.0/bin/oracle for SID TPRSSo the Solaris user that starts the listener HAS NO ACCESS rights to the directory path and/or the executables (lsnrctl / tnslsnr).
[oracle@srv01-18-102 bin]$ ps -ef|grep tns
oracle 11967 1 0 Jun07 ? 00:00:53 /u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/dbhome_1/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit
oracle 28694 17439 0 17:49 pts/0 00:00:00 grep tnsYou can choose for a "more than one listener" solution or "only one listener". Whatever you do the unix user that starts the oracle, listener executables have to be the same OR sicky bits have to exist on the executables (so the user is allowed to start the executables and access the memory realms as if it was the actual owner).
The moment you don't use the defaults - aka "LISTENER" or a non default port (1521), you will have to define this via the database parameter
LOCAL_LISTENER
SQL> conn / as sysdba
SQL> show parameter local_listener
NAME TYPE VALUE
local_listener string
SQL> ALTER system SET LOCAL_LISTENER=
"(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=sun3.tuprasnet.local)(PORT=1522))"
scope=BOTH;
System altered.
SQL> show parameter local_listener
NAME TYPE VALUE
local_listener string (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=sun3.tuprasnet.local)(PORT=1522))Now the database "knows" that it has to register itself against "sun3.tuprasnet.local" and will be serviced via port 1522.
After been set on database level, the "LOCAL_LISTENER" value can be resolved via the string itself or (*most common way of doing it is using a tnsalias*) is resolved via the tnsnames.ora file (the string given in LOCAL_LISTENER is an tns ALIAS).
If you use ONE listener, then databases can register themselves against SQL*Net compatible listeners. So you don't have to use a 9i listener for a 9i database. A 10g database is also allowed.
If I use a ONE listener solution, then I normally pick the listener from the highest database version and let all database versions use this listener.
The post given here (http://www.liberidu.com/blog/?p=116): "Registering non-default XMLDB HTTP/WebDAV and FTP ports on a non-default Oracle Listener port" describes a use case which is even more "extreem" regarding shared server functionality, based on TWO listeners and NON-DEFAULT PORT addressing, based on an Oracle 9 and Oracle 10 environment on the same machine.

Hello,
I have gone through the entire 9i RAC procedure for Redhat AS 2.1 - i am now running dbca -datafileDestination /u02 as the last step - but i get these errors below, and if i ignore i get lots of ORACLE not available errors
ORA-00119: invalid specification for system parameter remote_listener
ORA-00132: syntax error or unresolved network name 'LISTENERS_ORCL'
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
Any ideas?
Thanks,
