Local Procedures Calling Database Packages

I have a procedure in a form which is calling a procedure in a database package. There are various parameters being sent to the package. The package is not executing. If I copy the same code of the package in to the form procedure, the same code is executing.
One of the paramters being passed to the package is null. Is it that you cannot pass a null value to a database package or is there some other thing that I need to check?

Definitely, the cause of the problem isn4t the null parameter. I frequently do this and it works. Analyze your package better.

• Calling a stored procedure within a package

We have a number of packages containing stored procedures. In an existing production application, we used embedded SQL in C programs to call these stored procs
e.g.
EXEC SQL EXECUTE
BEGIN owner.fees_calc.some_fee(:parm1,...);
END;
END-EXEC;
Now, I am trying to use SQLJ to call this same stored proc in the package. However, I am getting a compilation error from sqlj saying that it cannot find a stored procedure or function of that name. It works fine if I use a stored proc that is not in a package.
So how do I call a stored procedure within a package? Or is this not currently possible with sqlj?
I am also getting a warning just before the error and I'm wondering if the error is being caused by this:
Warning: You are using an Oracle JDBC driver, but connecting to a non-Oracle database. SQLJ will perform JDBC-generic SQL checking.
I am connecting to an Oracle 7.3.3 database using an Oracle 7.3.4 JDBC driver. I also tried using the Oracle 8.0.5 JDBC driver for the same database but I get the same warning message.

I used the following code to call a stored
procedure via SQLJ:
try {
#sql [iCtx] {
CALL ibs.cvs_validate.validate_port_id(:IN record_id ,:IN poe_pod_flag,:IN port_id,:OUT error_code,:OUT error_message) };
where
"ibs" is the schema
"cvs_validate" is the package
"validate_port_id" is the procedure
The code runs fine, but to get it to compile
in JDeveloper 2.0, I had to disable the "Check SQL semantics against database schema" option on the Project Properties (SQLJ) property sheet.

• Getting error calling a package/procedure from DB

I'm on 11.1.1.6 and I'm trying to execute a procedure in a package in the DB my ADF application is connected to. I get the following error "Could not find saved view state for token". If I comment out the execution of the method that is calling the procedure the error goes away. The error shows up under the log for the application on the EM console. The procedure does not get executed. Can anyone tell me what it could be? I am using the tool Oracle provided to gain access to the EBS database without using the apps password. I wonder if that may be causing the issue? Can it be related to a security or grant issue of some kind? The package procedure is under the apps schema.

Hi,
I don't think that on this forum we know enough about EBS to be helpful with security privileges. But if you read this here ADF & Weblogic How To: TROUBLESHOOTING: Could not find saved view state for token ...
then it seems that there are some sort of access problem

• Calling remote procedure through database link

Hi,
I have a procedure in a package with a type I delcared as follows:
Database1 :
create or replace package p1
is
TYPE dependents_rec IS RECORD (
name VARCHAR2 (80),
dob date);
TYPE dependents IS TABLE OF dependents_rec
INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
procedure proc1 (p_id in number,
p_dependents out dependents );
end;
On another database database2 i want to call the above procedure from within a procedure in a package that works as a wrapper package with similar structure.
I recieve the error "Wrong number or types of parameters" error because type dependents is not the same as within the package in database 1.
How can I call the procedure p1.proc1 over a database link ?
Thank you

Hi,
On database1:
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE types_pkg is
TYPE dependents_rec IS RECORD (
NAME VARCHAR2 (80),
sex NUMBER (1),
birth_date DATE,
birth_place NUMBER (3),

CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE wrapper_pkg_demo

When compiling the package body on database 1
ORA-04052: error occurred when looking up remote object TYPES@MOI
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1

Noting that the database link are working properly and when compiling the package on database 2, it compile successfully

• Database package (stored procedure) seems to be hanging

Hi,
Our application seems to be hanging after executing a database package repeatedly. It happens after 5-10 invocations of the same package in a loop. Any ideas why this happens?
Thanks in advance,

Narayana,
Your really going to have to give more detail than "it hangs and we don't know why". I always use a program called TOP SESSIONS in OEM to monitor a running process. It's a good place to start. If you don't have that query v$session and find the session that is running that package. Normally good coders have trace tables they write debug into (with a debug flag on every proc), so that when you run a procedure/function/package it begins recording that it's doing so you can monitor it's process. It sound like you don't have any kind of tracing going on so you have no idea what's happening. Even use DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE to show where it is at in the code.
Also in regards to that top sessions program (OEM 1.6), there is one called lock manager. The newer OEM might have this I don't know, I don't use it. But the initial process your running might be opening locks and keeping them open, thus other packages fire and are still waiting for the first one to let go. Are you killing the first session BEFORE firing off the next?
Try and get some monitoring tools, many are free to download like Oracle's OEM, so you can monitor what's going on. However but you really need to record some kind of trace in your code so when it runs you can see what step it is at when it does hang. Also check for TRACE files that progress might be making and the alert log as well (both on the server's operating system).
Hope this helps a little.

• Execute procedure in a package using the caller privileges?

Is it possible to execute a procedure within a package using the privileges of the caller rather than the privileges of the package owner? So if we have a procedure that does a select, one that does an insert, and another for update and a 4th for delete, then we just want to grant execute to user X on the select procedure in the package. This is a developer request. I think I just need to tell the requestor to copy or move the procedure out of the package and into it's own procedure so that it's safe to run by user X and not grant execute on the package since I don't believe it is possible to specify what procedures in a package are granted execute since that command is a blanket for the whole package right?
Example - fails due to specifying the proc:
grant execute on scmemaname.pkgname.procname to usr;
There's no other command to do that is there?
Thanks,
Dave

AUTHID is at the package level ... not the individual function or procedure.
Create a second package.

• Stored Procedure call from JDBC sender for Oracle Database

Hi,
I have a requirement to call stored procedure using JDBC sender adapter for retriving data from an Oracle database.
I need to execute first stored procedure call from Querry SQL statement and then trigger second stored procedure call for confirming the succesful retrival of those records from the update SQL statement.
Querries:
1. Can we trigger stored procedure from Update statement of JDBC sender.
2. Can we call stored procedure from Querry statement, since I have read on other sdn threads that stored procedure calls on Oracle database are not allowed. If not possible to have "Execute stored procedure" would the function call (select * from table(function name)) work same as stored procedure.
3. In a JDBC sender the Querry statement and Update statement are executed in same session call and same database connection. What happens if the querry statement was not succesful, would the update be still triggered.
Please note PI does not have direct access to main table and hence the need to have separate stored procedure calls.
The PI version is PI 7.11 sp4.
Appreciate your inputs.
Thanks.
Siddhesh S.Tawate

>1. Can we trigger stored procedure from Update statement of JDBC sender.
I think not possible using update statement.
> Can we call stored procedure from Querry statement, since I have read on other sdn threads that stored procedure calls on Oracle database are not allowed. Yes using select query you can call stored procedure.
>. In a JDBC sender the Querry statement and Update statement are executed in same session call and same database connection. What happens if the querry statement was not succesful, would the update be still triggered.
No select and update handles in the same session using the same thread so if one transaction fails update should not proceed.

create or replace package Rewards_Summary_Package as
TYPE t_varray IS VARRAY(6) OF NUMBER;
end;You've declared your type inside the package. You need to declare it as a SQL type, which is not part of a PL/SQL package.

Hi Francois,
As I created a procedure in database as below
create or replace procedure For_table (tbl_of in number,st_pnt in number,en_pnt in number) is
begin
for i in st_pnt..en_pnt loop
dbms_output.put_line(tbl_of||'*'||i||'='||tbl_of*i);
end loop;
end For_table;
The above procedure is working fine when I'm using PL/SQL. I call the above procedure as
begin
For_table(3,5,20);

• Database connection pooling in ADF causing db procedure calls to use different transaction or session

We have developed an application using JDev Version 11.1.2.1.0 and the database is oracle 11g EE.
We have many database procedures or function calls from the model (AMImpl.java, VORowImpl.java) and the commit does not happen in the database and it happens from ADF. The database procedures are called in some valueChangeListnener and these procedures use the same transaction or session database session when called and update some records in some tables that are displayed in pages.
We started using connection pooling recently in our ADF application, -Djbo.doconnectionpooling=true -Djbo.txn.disconnect_level=1. When using connection pooling, we noticed that the database procedure calls use a different trasanction or different database session and the data or records that these procedures update is lost.
After removing the connection pooling, we noticed that the procedures again started using the same transaction or same database session and was working fine.
I want to know why this connnection pooling caused this issue and is there any fix for this when using connection pooling?

Take a look at
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E15523_01/web.1111/b31974/bcampool.htm#CIHCHHEA
What You May Need to Know About Database User State and jbo.doconnectionpooling = true
As you can see:
"At the end of the request when the application module is released back to the application module pool, that application module pool releases the JDBC connection it was using back to the database connection pool. It follows that with jbo.doconnectionpooling set to true the application module instance in the pool may have a completely different JDBC connection each time you check it out of the pool"
So, the best you can do, is to revert jbo.doconnectionpooling to false.

• Newbie Region SQL calling a package Procedure

I have a region on a page with PL/SQL selected.
Below is the code I have for "REGION SOURCE"
begin
htp.p('Help me');
WILD4BLIFE.TESTA();
end;
==============
I have a Package WILD4BLIFE with a procedure TESTA.
I'm using APEX 3.0 on Oracle 9i.
I've tried it various ways. No luck..
How can I get this PL/SQL to call a package stored procedure?
TIA
Steve

Steve,
Good that you provided the package code. I believe the problem is that you put double-quotes around the procedure name and signature.
procedure "TESTA(ci_sql in varchar2)" ...So you made the name of your procedure "TESTA(ci_sql in varchar2)", and it takes no parameters.
So when you call it from Apex with parameters, Oracle can't find a procedure simply named TESTA, especially one that accepts a single parameter.
Here's what I wrote:
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY test_apex IS
PROCEDURE display_line(show_value IN VARCHAR2)
IS
BEGIN
htp.p(show_value);
END display_line;
END test_apex;I only got to thinking about this because I realized that your procedure was not displaying the value of the parameter you're passing in (as I am above).
For me, putting double-quotes around my procedure names are extraneous. In your case, they're disastrous! ;-)
Good luck,
Stew
