Local storage access

Hi,
how is it possible to get access to the local storage medium (the harddisk) with Java Web Start? I know the that it is a security feature to not have access to it, but if my application needs it?
Thanks!

Use FileSaveService or sign your application.

  • Adobe Flash Player settings : Local Storage Requests

After my recent update to the current version of Adobe Flash Player, I began getting these pop-ups requesting Local Storage access to my computer.  There is an allow or deny button, but when you chose to deny it, the pop-up just never goes away or continues to come back.  I object to these requests and want these pop-ops to go away. Does anyone have an answer to this problem ? How do you disable this ?

Use the Flash Player Settings Manager to permanently allow or deny.

  • Errors when accessing Encrypted Local Storage

    Hi there,
I develop an AIR application and some of the users of the application are running into an issue when accessing Encryped Local Storage. Sometimes, when the application tries to put or retrieve an item from Encrypted Local Storage, these errors are reported:
    Error: general internal error
    EncryptedLocalStore database access error
I've searched around a little and it appears that these errors occur for a variety of reasons. Sounds like corruption to the user's keychain can result in this error being thrown (repairing the keychain was mentioned as a possible solution in one blog post). This same error happens to some Linux users (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/492/cpsid_49267.html) when switching between Gnome and KDE desktops too. http://blogs.adobe.com/koestler/2009/07/unreadable_encrypted_local_sto.html seems to suggest that changing of usernames on the machine can have an impact on how the ELS is accessed.
In terms of a solution to this issue, I've seen multiple posts online asking the user to delete the ELS directory on their computer. While this 'solution' works for some users of the application I develop, it doesn't work for other users. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/239605 seems to suggest that a full factory reset of a user's OS gets everything back to square one and the ELS is now usable again - that's not really something that I can suggest to a user of an application. It seems a bit drastic and most users will (understandably) baulk at the idea of a full factory reset.
So, I'm in a position with AIR development where I have to provide a fallback to ELS. Thankfully, I don't use ELS in the application too much, but I imagine anyone that has to make meaningful use of it would be pretty handicapped by the issues above. I guess I have a few questions:
    1. Has anyone been able to reproduce the errors listed above? Are you able to get your system into a state where 'Error: general internal error' appears consistently when you try to access ELS? I've tried the suggestions listed in the articles I outlined above, but have so far failed in reproducing these errors.
    2. If you have managed to get your machine into this state, what is the most advisable remedial action? As I mentioned above, deleting the ELS directory to start anew seems to work for some users but not for others.
    3. Is there anything that someone has tried where they've found a programmatic solution to avoid this issue altogether?
    4. Can someone in AIR engineering comment on concrete efforts to avoid these sort of scenarios in future versions of the runtime? Is there any debug information that I can provide from users of this application that could help diagnose this issue further and possibly feed back to the AIR development team?
FWIW, my application descriptor file is pointing at the 1.5.3 version of the runtime. We've seen this happen to users that are running this application with both the 1.5.3 version of AIR and the 2.0.3 version of AIR. We've seen this happen on both Mac and Windows. I've seen this happen with initial installs of the application and with upgrades to new versions too.
    Sean

    Hi Sean,
Thanks for reporting the issue. As you pointed out (via the blogs and weblinks), we are aware of this issue. And the following blog post talks about the problem in detail:
         http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/492/cpsid_49267.html
As mentioned there, this issues arises because of corruption of keyring database, which in turn could happen becuase of user migration, switching desktops, ELS data migration to a different machine etc In such a scenario, even native applications are not able to access the ELS store (gnome-keyring or kde-kwallet). So there is little that we could do here. We have never experienced a scenario where an AIR application resulted into the corruption of database.
Having said that, if you can provide us a constantly reproducible case (a list of steps which can always get us hit the issue), then we can definitely try to do the best possible in this regard.
    Thanks,
    -romil

  • HT4191 iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad?  If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account.

iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad?  If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account.  I've seen reference to the  "My iPhone" local storage put no mention on how you create this folder or access this folder within the Notes app.  I realize storing information in a local storage like this provides no syncing between other iDevices but that is exactly what I'm looking for.  I'm running iOS7.0.4 on a iPhone 5S, and a iPad Air.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you go to Settings > Notes > Default Account you will see "On My iPhone" as the default account and the only choice if you have not enabled syncing Notes in Settings >iCloud or Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you have enabled syncing you can still select "On My iPhone" as the default account. When you are in the Notes app you won't see any accounts listed if you have not enabled syncing because they are all in the On My iPhone account and that is the only place possible. It is not a folder that you create.

  • IPhone would not let me delete individual song from library, tried deleting album to remove music from local storage, now certain songs from album do not show in iTunes match on iPhone only on computer

Upon completion of matching and uploading my very large library of music (+15,000), I wanted to see how iTunes Match worked on my iPhone. I started it and selected the first album in the list to listen to. I let it play the entire album and then decided that I wanted to remove certain songs off of the iPhone's local storage. Tried to delete the individual songs and it would not let me. So I figured that I would go back and just delete the album. After selecting delete I went back to listen to one of the songs on the album and realized that it deleted several of the songs from the iTunes Match completely. When pulling iTunes up on my computer the songs are still there but does not give me the option to upload to iTunes Match.
I have tried turning off Match on iPhone and back on (doesn't seem to do anything cause when turned off the iPhone still displays the music.)
Then tried power cycling. (Still shows the music)
Then I tried power cycling again and resyncing the phone and the iPhone still shows the music as it was on the phone.
How do I get the music to be accessable on the iPhone again.. I have been messing with this for the course of 3 hours now.. and any help would be appreciated!!
    iPhone 3GS 8GB

Actually Michael I know exactly how to delete.. The iPhone would not let me swipe to the left to delete the individual song, so I went to the album view and did it there.. The issue I am having is a bug because it removed 3/4 of the albums availablity off my iPhone.. You post proved no help because it is basic troubleshooting which, if you read my post, I have already done.. I did however figure out how to fix my issue on my own.. Basically I had to remove the album from my iTunes on my computer and upload it again to iTunes Match..

  • Live migration to HA failed leaving VHD on local storage and VM in cluster = Unsupported Cluster Configuration

    Hi all
Fun one here, I've been moving non-HA VMs to a HA and everything has been working perfectly until now.  All this is being performed on Hyper-V 2012R2, Windows Server 2012R2 and VMM 2012R2.
For some reason on the VMs failed the migration with an error 10608 "Cannot create or update a highly available virtual machine because Virtual Machine Manager could not locate or access Drive:\Folder"  The odd thing is the drive\folder is
a local storage one and I selected a CSV in the migration wizard.
The net result is that the VM is half configured into the cluster but the VHD is still on local storage.  Hence the "unsupported cluster configuration" error.
The question is how do I roll back? I either need to get the VM out of the cluster and back into a non-HA state or move the VHD onto the CSV.  Not sure if the latter is really a option.
I've foolishly clicked "Ignore" on the repair so now I can't use the "undo" option (brain fade moment on my part).
Any help gratefully received as I'm a bit stuck with this.
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Simar
Thanks for the advice, I've now got the VM back in a stable state and running HA.
Just to finish off the thread for future I did the following
    - Shutdown the VM
    - Remove the VM from the Failover Cluster Manager (as you say this did leave the VM configuration intact)
    - I was unable to import the VM as per your instructions so I copied the VHD to another folder on the local storage and took a note of the VM configuration.
    - Deleted the VM from VMM so this removed all the configuration details/old VHD.
    - Built a new VM using the details I saved from the point above
    - Copied the VHD into the new VMs folder and attached it to the VM.
    - Started it up and reconfigured networking
    - Use VMM to make the VM HA.
I believe I have found the reason for the initial error, it appears there was a empty folder in the Snapshot folder, probably from an old Checkpoint that hadn't cleaned up properly when it was deleted.
The system is up and running now so thanks again for the advice.

  • Adobe Flash FAIL:  Adobe Flash Player local storage settings incorrect.  Module 'Resume' feature may not work on this computer.

Using a Windows 2012 RDS Environment, we have users connecting to a CPD website, and as part of the CPD they need to run a systems checker.  When they run the systems checker they get the following error message: "Adobe Flash FAIL:  Adobe Flash Player local storage settings incorrect.  Module 'Resume' feature may not work on this computer". All users are connecting to this environment with Windows CE Clients,I have checked the setting on Adobe Flash and they seem correct but as each user has its own profile on the RDS session, is there something that I should be setting for each user. I have added the website to the trusted sites and it has made no difference.   Any ideas

It sounds like what's happening is that Flash Player can't write or read from the local shared objects in the user's redirected home directory because we disallow traversing junctions in the broker process.  This behavior was disabled to address a vulnerability identified in some of John Forshaw's research into the IE broker last year.
You can enable this behavior by adding the following setting to mms.cfg:
    EnableInsecureJunctionBehavior=1
That said, you can probably gather from the name of the flag that we don't really recommend this approach, and disable this attack surface by default.  There's some risk that a network attacker could craft content that abuses fundamental issues with how Windows handles Junctions to write to arbitrary locations.
Unfortunately, there's not a simple or easy workaround that I'm aware of (but it's been ages since I've administered a Windows domain) for this kind of NAS/SAN-backed terminal server environment where Flash is not able to access \Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\ without traversing a junction.

  • Query about local storage

    Hi,
i had a query about local storage.
I've a machine that hosts weblogic and tangosol. i've an ejb that accesses a distributed cache i.e NamedCache cache = CacheFactory.get("MyCache")
i modified tangosol-coherence.xml and set local-storage to false ( for distributed cache) and replaced the file in coherence.jar.
i'm using an overflow scheme and the back map uses a disk scheme.
i also start a separate standalone instance of tangosol and i set the system property of local storage to true for the standalone instance.
i start the standalone instance first and then weblogic.
The idea is ensure that the tangosol instance in weblogic or the weblogic JVM should not participate in storing data (hence local storage false).
only the JVM for the standalone instance should store data (hence local storage true -system property).
i wanted to know whether the property "local-storage" is pertinent to a member(machine) or to a JVM?
the reason for this doubt: as i'm using a disk scheme, tangosol creates a file for an overflow (e.g lh014402~.tp). i can see two such files when ideally i would have wanted only one for the tangosol instance.
         -rw-r--r-- 1 zephyr users 8364032 2005-06-23 17:02 lh014402~.tp
         -rw-r--r-- 1 zephyr users 8364032 2005-06-23 17:02 lh014403~.tp.
can you please let me know if we can configure tangosol in such a way that we can two separate instances running with local stroage false for one and true for the other?
         Awaiting your reply
         Thanks
         Vinay

I would suggest leaving the default 'local-storage' value set to 'true' in the tangosol-coherence.xml and just use the JVM argument to control the local storage of each individual node. Then start the stand alone instance normally (I assume you are using the com.tangosol.net.DefaultCacheServer) and start the WebLogic instance with the following:
         java [...] -Dtangosol.coherence.distributed.localstorage=false [...]
         Hope this helps.
         Later,
         Rob Misek

  • Configuring NAS as local storage

This is not a specific question related directly to Oracle, but I'm hoping somebody can answer or point me in the proper direction. I'm working on setting up a Disaster Recovery system for my Oracle environment. Right now my DR system is such:
HP Proliant DL 385 (G5): 64-bit running Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 Update 2 and 10.2.0.4.0
IoMega StorPro Center NAS: Mounted as NFS, holds all database related files (control, redo and .dbf files)
I have everything working but the NAS is hooked up to the network, and thus my environment requires network connectivity which I obviously can't count on during a disaster. Is there anyway to configure the NAS as local storage so when I do not have network connectivity I can still access my files on it?
The vendor (IoMega) was of very little help. They tell me that I can plug the NAS directly into one of the NIC cards and "discover" the NAS that way. The problem is that the discovery agent does not run on Linux and they could not tell me how to get around this.
Anybody have some experience hooking up a NAS unit as local storage instead of NFS? I'm trying to put on my SA/Network/Storage hats as best as possible, but I have very little experience trying things like this.

I'm thinking out loud, so bear with me.
An NFS mount point does an important feature in a clustered environment: file system access serialization. Frequently the underlying NAS file system has been formatted with EXT3 or some other non-cluster aware file system; NFS performs the important locking and serialization to keep this from being corrupted in a cluster. Please keep this in mind when designing a disaster recovery solution.
What do you mean by "hooked to the network"? Do you mean you are using the public Internet or a corporate network?
Are they suggesting that you establish a private, direct connection to the NAS?
Find out how the NAS gets its network address. If it's using DHCP you will need to set up a local server and have the DHCP server listen only to the NIC/NICs where the NAS is plugged. Be sure the client NIC's have addresses on the same network as the NAS unit.
Bring up networking on the NAS NIC devices.
The bit about "discovering" the NAS file systems has me puzzled.
Once you figure that out, mount the NAS file systems somewhere on you system, but NOT IN THEIR PRODUCTION locations.
Now, set up your local machine as an NFS server. Publish the mount points as NFS exports, and then have your applications use these NFS mountpoints.

  • Local storage enabled per distributed-scheme

As the cache configuration xml allows you to specify local-storage true or falase for individual distributed-schemes it would seem that it is possible to have a stiuation where you have a cluster of nodes where each node is storage enabled for a different sub-set of caches/schemes.
I have never done this myself and always either storage enabled/disabled at the JVM level. Would having nodes with different caches/schemes storage enabled be a valid thing to do? I am not quite sure why I might want to do this but I was asked the question by one of our dev teams (I don't think they quite know they would want to do it either).
I suppose what I really want to know is has anyone done this before and if we did it is something likely to break?
    Cheers,
    JK.

    Hi Jonathan,
yes, it is doable, only you usually would want to specify a different override Java property for the storage-enabled flag in each service scheme.
An example on when you want to do this is when there are different services storing data in (different) partitioned cache services (and usually they also have access to a database from a cache server, e.g. by a cache store) and you want to separate deployment of the server-side of the services to different nodes due to access control or provisioning reasons.
In these cases it is even possible that the server side of one service is the client side of another service, meaning that the cache configuration of both services need to exist in some JVMs.
I posted some additional info and configuration in this forum thread some months ago:
Re: Partitioned cache - where to put what config files?

  • Local storage problem

I am running out of local storage , I deleted  a lot of photos   Notes  games apps  etc.. Yet I still cannot download a game I had , which was on the iPad but I deleted it ro refresh it . It also looks as if my available storage is going down the more I delete.

How much space is Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.
There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.

  • Local storage resource need and use. How it difference from actual VM instance drives?

    Hi,
I am not able to quite understand the use of local storage resource that we configure from service definition file. The local storage is not durable and provides access same as file storage we would typically use in local environment like c:\my.txt.
As this local storage is not durable; so is the information stored on (for example C drive) role instance VM. So what is the advantage we get by using local storage resource? Instead we can save it on C drive of role instance VM. Why local storage
is recommended instead of using VM's drive?
Please let me know your views.

Because of the local storage is not durable, On a cloud service, we can create a small local storage where you can save temporary files, this is a powerful model for some scenarios, , especially highly scalable applications, please have

  • Local storage location

I want to play games on my phone running android 2.2 .  The phone has an micro SD card and a very small amount of storage on the phone.  I can't actually access the system storage.  I have the proper flash player, and it can play the select game, but I can't find the location of the Local storage.  I have a save file for the game on my computer (which I did locate) that I want to use.  I guess this post breaks down to three questions:
    1.  can I use the .sol file from the computer on the phone?
    2.  how can I access the system storage?
    3.  Where is the local storage on the phone?
Help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    1.  can I use the .sol file from the computer on the phone?    -    You'd need to contact the manufacturer or consult the documentation for the phone. Adobe doesn't have this info.

  • How can I use wget, cron and Automator to periodically pull a dynamic image from a URL to local storage, and then update a Keynote slide with that image, automatically?

How can I use wget, cron and Automator to periodically pull an image from a URL (which is dynamically updated - like a weather map, say - to local storage, and then update a Keynote slide with that image, automatically?

Any particular reason for those specific technologies?  wget does not exist on a mac, although you can nstall it I guess.  OS X has curl installed which should do pretty much anything you want to do with wget.  cron is being replaced by launchd, although cron still exists on mountain lion.
As far as I can tell from automator all the standard 'actions' to access keynote  available to it require keynote to be open and running, but does not provide a function to actually open it.  So I think you will have to write some applescript, as a minimum to open and quit keynote. I notice that the keynote actions are mostly circa 2005 an wonder if they would even work.
Under utilities in automator 'actions' there is a capability to add applescripts as part of the workflow.
Also, note that cron is being dprecated by Apple and replaced by launchd.  that said cron is stil on my mountain lion instalation.
This entry at stackoverflow shows use of cron with curl to get web urls.  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1683620/getting-started-with-cronjobs-on-a-ma c
If I have any time I may try and get this to work as it is quite interesting and new to me.  But otherwise, good luck.

My physical disk is in fact a SAN LUN (but need a third party driver) which explain why I want to share a local storage with all my OracleVM dom0 (all of them can see and have access to the LUN) and store my guests VDI on it.If you're using a SAN LUN, this is not local storage, it's shared storage. Oracle VM will automatically format this with OCFS2.
I'm not familiar with ASM but correct me if I'm wrong it is "just" a volume manager (like LVM2) ? Could I use ASM like I use LVM2 with my Xen/KVM open source installations : I mean create a LV for each guests VDI and avoid using a cluster aware FS (like OCFS2) ?ASM is used by Oracle Database for data storage. It is both a logical volume manager, a redundancy engine and a filesystem. It cannot be used outside of database. You cannot use ASM for Oracle VM. You also cannot use LVM with Oracle VM, as it is not cluster aware. You must use OCFS2 and the Oracle VM UI to configure an Oracle VM pool.
