Localconnection + new window (or GetUrl) = BROWSER CRASH

Hi,
I have developped some intranet tools for production using
flash. It's a management system and the user can use it to display
the content in another application. As the two application are
separated, i'm using local connection to make them talk together.
It's working really well.
But if i try to integrate the link of the viewer inside the
management system or list these two links into a tool reference
html home page.. i often (it's doesnt happen everytime, but in the
same conditions) get major CRASHING of the browser (it's on
windows/explorer but i think the problem is also visible on
Safari/Mac). Take note that the problem happen when using GetUrl
from flash and also from opening a new link "_blank" from html. Of
note also that the problem doesnt always happen.
Because opening a new window with other flash content in it
is common, my guess is that there is a problem with local
connection (a parent window talking to a child window through local
connection?) [localconnection is a less widely use feature, so that
would explain there isnt much report about this problem).
Until now i havent found nothing on the web related to this
problem...
Anyone have experienced this or have a relevant link?
If i find more information i will try to repost it here...

Try this, I think it works for both Safari and Firefox (not 100% sure on Firefox but think so...)
Press command+l (lowercase L) and then press commandoptionpress return. That will open a new window with the current webpage in the new window. To open a new tab with the same details, omit the option key in the second step.
Command key = one with the Apple symbol
Option key may be called Alt on your keyboard.

I recently had to get a new windows computer, old one crashed. My tech guy got all my itunes library over to the new one, and all my songs are there. However, some won't play and ask me for the password for the apple id they were purchased under. 2 of these ids are obsolete and I have no access to those accts. The songs all played on my old computer without prompting me for a password.
Any ideas how I can get around this hassle and get them all to play? We're talking about 800 songs that are being obstinate. The new computer is authorized under my "new" Apple id, which I have used for years.

New Window Opening Behind Browser Window

I have produced a page in DW3 for an artist where you click
on a thumbnail and it opens a new window with an enlargement of
that image. (I use the DW3 javascript behaviour to do this).
When I test it on my browsers the windows open in front of
the main browser window and all is hunky dory.
When my client does the same, she claims that some of the
windows open in front of the main browser window but some open
behind the browser window and are obscured. She says she perceives
a "flash" if the new window opens behind the browser window. She is
using Firefox 2.0.9.17
Has anyone experienced this behaviour and figured out a
fix?

Usually the user/browser decides where new windows/tabs will
be opened.
But why open a new window at all? Why not use something like
Litebox?

On opening a new window tab shows - "browser.startup.homepage=about:home"

When I open a new window all I see is this "browser.startup.homepage=about:home". And address bar says chrome://branding/locale/browserconfig.properties
What is happening and how do I fix this?

You can check for problems with preferences and rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js and user.js files to reset all prefs to the default value.

Firefox slow on new Windows install/Flash player crashes, how to fix?

On my new windows install I found Firefox to be very slow compared to how it was before the my new Windows install.
Opening most webpages takes way longer than it should, i excluded my internet connection being the problem as i always get 100/100 Mbps (speedtest) results.
I already :
-reinstalled Flashplayer, wich didnt solve the problem.
-Did a Firefox refresh (as in: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-health-report-says-your-browser-is-slow )
-Tried setting the ipv6 boolean (network.dns.disableIPv6) in about:config to true.
-Disabling plugins (user installed ones)
-Clearing flashplayer cache
-Reinstall videocard driver
I'm at a loss what could possibly be the problem, hopefully someone else has an idea how to solve this problem.

Another common troubleshooting step for Flash on Windows Vista and newer is to disable the plugin's protected mode feature. That feature has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems. There is a new hidden setting for this:
(A) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''flash''' and pause while the list is filtered
(C) Double-click the '''dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode''' preference to switch its value from false to true.
This might not take effect until all Flash has been unloaded for a few minutes, or you close Firefox.
Before that preference was added, the way to disable protected mode was by creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that if it turns out to be necessary (if Flash EXE processes continue to show up in the Windows Task Manager, Processes tab, even after changing the Firefox preference):

Can`t open new window in my browser...

I go to my Google Icon in the top toolbar, right click on it to get the drop down menu, then click on Open in New Window and nothing happens...and it really weird because now...just at this moment the Google Icon disappeared. Is there any way I can go back to an older version of Firefox or something because I never had any problems before. On top^of that I can;t find the some addons that I installed, and in fact when I click on Addons under Tools nothing happens either...Please advise!!!!!!

Launch iview in new window: howto rename browser window name?

When I open an iview in a new window, I would like to set the visible window name to the name of the iview, instead of just "SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0". Any suggestions?

You have to write another wrapper custom iView to launch SAP Transaction iView. The wrapper java iView will generate URL for the SAP Transaction iView (PS: How to generate URL for an iView in PCD. ) and Open the URL in a new window using a javascript -

Is the Nightly 12.0a1 64 bit icon in the start menu for Windows 7 supposed to have a jump list for frequent pages visited and tasks (open new tab, open new window, enter private browsing)?

Both my standard Firefox icon and Waterfox icon have jump lists in the start menu and taskbar. Even the pinned Nightly icon in the taskbar shows this, but it doesn't show in the start menu. Just odd to see that the icon in the start menu doesn't offer this feature considering it does in the taskbar. I've reinstalled several times but it doesn't seem to change anything.

There are hidden settings that control the display of jump lists, check these to make sure that they have been enabled.
Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter, accept the warning message, and a list of preferences will be displayed.
In the search box at the top type '''taskbar.lists''', it will then display a small number of preferences. Check the values of the following preferences (you can double-click on them to change the value)

* '''browser.taskbar.lists.frequent.enabled''' - set to true to have the frequent sites displayed

By default the first 3 settings are true, the last is false.

ok, I should've also mentioned this, the flash gallery I'm
making is not for the web, it's more for just opening in a flash
player. So I don't really want it to open in a new browser window,
but rather a new swf window, if there is such a thing.

PDF-in web browser - open link in new window

I've done a lot of searching for JavaScript code to solve this: if a PDF is being viewed in a web browser, and the user clicks a link in that PDF, the default is to have the linked page replace the original. I would like it to open a new window in the browser. E.g., if there is a link in the PDF to abc.com, then when the user clicks that link, the original PDF stays open and a new window opens to abc.com. Any help?

In the JavaScript for Acrobat API Reference look up the app.launchURL() method. The second parameter is a boolean value that describes whether or not you want the URL to open in a new window.

I think this is an html/javascript issue. I don't think
GetURL is not going to create a child window, just a plane ole
window, so there is no opener associated with it. That window would
have to have been opened by the other window and named EMMWindow
before getURL filled it up with something.
You may have to communicate via javascript to get the page to
open the window as an opener.
Of course, I could be wrong.

Open new window firefox

By default Firefox opens urls set to 'new window' in a new firefox tab instead. Is there any way to force Firefox to open a new window?

Why do you want to override someones preference in browser window treatment?
For the record, I set my FF2 that way on purpose, back when it wasn't the default. Chrome works this way by default, and I set IE8 to do this as well. It is a severe annoyance when a website goes out of their way to override my chosen preference.
That said, the only way to override this is to use a javascript popup, which risks the popup blocker.
