Localhost setup

Question

Hi:
I am working with David Powers' Essential Guide for DWCS3
In trying to set up a localhost with Apache 2.2 (installed
successfully) and PHP 5.2.8, I have run up against a snag.
I am trying to edit php.ini as the display errors and log
errors need to switched off and on per the book. When I try to save
the file, the message says:
"Cannot create the C:\Program Files\PHP\php.ini file. Make
sure the path and file name are correct."
According to the phpinfo() on Vista, it says this:
Configuration File (php.ini) Path C:\Windows
Loaded Configuration File C:\Program Files\PHP\php.ini
I cannot locate any php files in C:\Windows, or if there's a
conflict, so I don't know what else to do at this time.
Appreciate your help!

The instructions in my book recommend turning off User Access
Control
(UAC) in Vista when installing and configuring PHP. I suspect
that UAC
is probably back on when you get this error message. Even if
that's not
the case, you can get round the problem by running Notepad as
administrator.
It's not sufficient to be logged in as administrator, you
need to go to
the Start menu, locate Notepad, right-click, and select "Run
as
administrator" from the context menu. Once Notepad is open,
go to the
File menu and select Open. Navigate to the PHP folder. To
access
php.ini, select All files (*.*) from the drop-down menu at
the bottom
right of the Open dialog box. Make the changes, and then save
the file.

Read "Checking the location of php.ini" on page 90 again: "In
PHP 5.2.3
or later, check the seventh item, labeled Loaded
Configuration File."
You're using PHP 5.2.8, so C:\Program Files\PHP\php.ini is
the correct
location.
