Localization/Internationalization/Globalization

Hi there everybody :
I am in a need to store the datas in MySQL database irrespective of the Languages.
I was able to store the datas of type String in chinese, arabic, korea etc,,,
But the problem was i need to store datas of type INTEGER,DOUBLE ,DATA into database ,irrespective of the CHARSET.
I need it to be done some how yaar.So knidly please give me your ideas and suggestions. Thanks for going through my problem.Hope so i will get some better ideas from this forum.
My Tech's are : JAVA,JSP,EJB 3.0,MySQL 5.0.17
Lots of thanks in advance

Out of the box every part of .NET will use the current culture of the machine for conversion to and from strings.  This includes currency, numbers, dates, etc.  One way to change that is to modify every place you use ToString or Parse/TryParse
to specify a culture.  Another approach would be to set the thread(s) CurrentCulture/CurrentUICulture to be English which would override the default of the OS culture.
But I cannot possibly recommend that you do this.  Issue 1 with such an approach is that there are places where ToString is called implicitly and you'd miss those cases.  Issue 2 is that making your app use a single culture is basically an anti-localization
process which goes against modern application development.  Issue 3 is that you are hiding the fact that your code has a design flaw.  Your code shouldn't care about the culture of the user in regards to string processing.  If your code is making
assumptions about culture settings then it is wrong.  You should be using culture-agnostic values if you don't care about cultural information.

  • SAPUI5 + NW Gateway Localization // Internationalization

    Dear Gurus,
I'm currently searching for a solution regarding the i18n.properties file in SAPUI5.
Actually I have a GW OData Model built on transaction 'SEGW' using a DDIC structure from within the ABAP Dictionary.
In my Eclipse I built a sample SAP NetWeaver Gateway -> Starter Application Project, which generates automatically my i18n.properties file in 1 language.
Is there a possibility to automatically generate the i18n.properties file in another language - thus, the newly generated file should use the information stored in the ABAP dictionary.
    Thanks,
    Konstantin

    Hi Konstantin,
if you would like to access the texts from the ABAP dictionary and use them as labels on the UI5 controls, you might consider using the getServiceMetadata function of the oData model. The resulting object e.g. contains the field labels in the language of your backend user. From that object you can create a JSON model and bind it to the labels of the controls without the need to explicitly create property files.

  • Workflow localization, translation, multi-language WF-dialogs

    Hi Workflow Gurus,
Question is about workflow localization / translation / globalization / internationalization…
Suppose, I have a complex workflow, which consists of a number of sub-workflows. This WF has been initially developed in English (including all dialogs), but now I want to offer this WF in other languages. Of course, I can begin to pass over each WF/sub-workflow element and to begin to type localized dialog via built-in translation tool of SAP where it is possible, but it may take a lot of time, especially if there are a lot steps in WF.
Is there any best practice for workflow localization, what is the best approach to supply the same workflow in English, German and French to your customers? Is there any way to get/build a dictionary of all dialog, used in all steps in WF and its subworkflows and after that to translate it to the desired language?
    Thanks.

I also would be very interested of hearing if someone has found a way to easily translate a workflow or has a tool for it. Many times the translation can become an own sub-project (this applies also some other SAP functionality which do not offer proper translation tools).
Basically it is not that hard - you probably just want to translate the "visible parts", and this includes just the dialog tasks: maintain the work item text and description in PFTC (this is a bit annoying since you need to log in with the destination language to maintain the work item text). Many times this is enough. But then if you have user decision in the workflow, these you need to go to translate the step to WF builder SWDD.
If you want to make things perfect, you must maintain all the texts in the workflow itself too (in WF builder in the translation menu): all the step names, outcomes, etc. These texts are visible e.g. in the logs etc. so users will most probably have access to these although they are not in the daily use. Luckily the translation tool in the WF builder is quite good, because it lists nicely all the texts of the workflow, and offers a input field to maintain the translation. And if you are after perfection, you need to go back to translating the tasks - the background tasks which will be visible in the logs...
Then, if the developers haven't translated the possible applications that are called inside the workflow, it really can become a project. For example it can be a huge task to translate a big web dynpro ABAP application (some translations come from data elements, some from OTRs, then you will have the messages, etc.)
    Kind regards,
    Karri

For supporting Arabic langauge , is there any RTL (Right To Left) format support.
    Thanks,
    Prasanna

    Hi ,
I have vistied the site http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/bi and looking for Localization and Globalization information , also looked into CR2011 user guide,
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/CR2011/en/xi4_cr_usergde_en.pdf
as mentioned , didnt see any information on Localization and Globalization.
I need intial information , if Crystal Reports supports localization with RTL (Right to Left) for the listed languages. Once this information is in hand , i can go furthure and make my hands wet with samples.
I need this information for WinForms and HTML (for WebPages) , I am not sure how different they are inside CR2010 , but for sure externally WinForms reports and HTML Reports (for WebPages) are different.

  • UTF8 character set conversion for chinese Language

    Hi friends,
Would like to some basic explanation on UTF8 feature, what does it help while converting the data from chinese language.
Would like to know what all characters this UTF8 will not support while converting from chinese language.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ramya Nomula

Not exactly sure what you are looking for, but on MetaLink, there are numerous detailed papers on NLS character sets, conversions, etc.
Bottom line is that for traditional Chinese characters (since they are more complicated), they require 4 bytes to store the characters (such as UTF-8, and AL32UTF8). Some mid-eastern characters sets also fall in this category.
Do a google search on "utf8 al32utf8 difference", and you will get some good explanations.
    e.g., http://decipherinfosys.wordpress.com/2007/01/28/difference-between-utf8-and-al32utf8-character-sets-in-oracle/
Recently, one of our clients had a question on the differences between these two character sets since they were in the process of making their application global. In an upcoming whitepaper, we will discuss in detail what it takes (from a RDBMS perspective) to address localization and globalization issues. As far as these two character sets go in Oracle, the only difference between AL32UTF8 and UTF8 character sets is that AL32UTF8 stores characters beyond U+FFFF as four bytes (exactly as Unicode defines UTF-8). Oracle’s “UTF8” stores these characters as a sequence of two UTF-16 surrogate characters encoded using UTF-8 (or six bytes per character). Besides this storage difference, another difference is better support for supplementary characters in AL32UTF8 character set.
You may also consider posting your question on the Globalization Suport forum which pertains more to these types of questions.

  • Localizing Error Messages in OIM

I was wondering if someone can tell me how to localize error messages in OIM. Is it as simple as adding the error codes to the property file, similar to UDFs?
    thanks

There are out of the box error messages in OIM that i see in the Design Console.Example:
    Key - 395
    Code - DOBJ.USR_INVALID_EMAIL_FORMAT
Description - Specified Email Format is Invalid.
I'm assuming this is what is shown to the user when they do not enter in a valid email value. Is it possible to localize/internationalize that to another language like Spanish or French?

  • OBIEE BI Answers: Wrong Aggregation Measures on top level of hierarchy

    Hi to all,
I have following problem. I hope to be clear in my English because it's a bit complicated to explain.
    I have following fact table:
    Drug Id Ordered Quantity
    1 9
    2 4
    1 3
    2 2
    and following Drug Table:
Drug Brand Id Brand Description Drug Active Ingredient Id Drug Active Ingredient Description
    1 Aulin 1 Nimesulide
    2 Asprina 2 Acetilsalicilico
In AWM i've defined a Drug Dimension based on following hierarchy: Drug Active Ingredient (parent) - Drug Brand Description (leaf) mapped as:
Drug Active Ingredient = Drug Active Ingredient Id of my Drug Table (LONG DESCRIPTION Attribute=Drug Active Ingredient Description)
Drug Brand Description = Drug Brand Id of my Drug Table (LONG DESCRIPTION Attribute = Drug Brand Description)
Indeed in my cube I've mapped leaf level Drug Brand Description = Drug Id of my fact table. In AWM Drug Dimension is mapped as Sum Aggregation Operator
If I select on Answers Drug Active Ingredient (parent of my hierarchy) and Ordered Quantity I see following result
Drug Active Ingredient Description Ordered Quantity
    Acetilsalicilico 24
    Nimesulide 12
    indeed of correct values
Drug Active Ingredient Description Ordered Quantity
    Acetilsalicilico 12
    Nimesulide 6
EXACTLY the double!!!!!!! But if I drill down Drug Active Ingredient Description Acetilsalicilico I see correctly:
Drug Active Ingredient Description Drug Brand Description Ordered Quantity
    Acetilsalicilico
    - Aspirina 12
    Total 12
Wrong Aggregation is only on top level of hierarchy. Aggregation on lower level of hierarchy is correct. Maybe Answers sum also Total Row????? Why?????
I'm frustrated. I beg your help, please!!!!!!!!

  • OBIEE 10g RPD Paswword Reset not working

I have gotten 2 10g RPDs, the password of which I do not know. I ma trying to change/ reset the password by making use of the technique wherein "AUTHENTICATION_TYPE = BYPASS_NQS;" is uncommented within the NQSConfig.ini file. It does not seem to be working. I have also changed the Default RPD name within the config file to the new RPD alongside ensuring there are no gaps/ spaces in the RPD name which are the common pitfalls.
The strange part is that it did work with another 10g RPD couple of weeks back but is not working with the two RPDs I got yesterday. I have just the client 10.1.3.4.2 installed so eliminates the possibility of the BI server being up and running.
Is there anything else that could be preventing/ hindering this?

Nope. Did not work. Message returned back is that the existing password does not match the RPD password.
I have pasted the NQSConfig.ini file from "OracleBI\server\Config" below, just in case I am overlooking something that you happen to spot that might be preventing the overwrite:

  • Is this a good practice

    v_date varchar2(20);
    begin
      select
        to_char(sysdate,'dd_mon_yyyy')
      into
        v_date
      from
        dual; found this here
    http://www.orafusion.com/art_excel.htm

I'm not sure that I understand what you're asking?
If you really need a string representation of a date, I'd certainly prefer the simpler
    v_date := to_char(sysdate,'dd_mon_yyyy');syntax. But I'm not sure that's your question
    - I wouldn't want to name a variable that holds a date representation of a string V_DATE. The name of the variable implies that it should be a date not a string.
    - I generally would want to avoid converting a date to a string anywhere other than my presentation layer.
    - Depending on your internationalization/ globalization settings, I might want to be explicit about my NLS settings in the TO_CHAR call since MON will return different strings depending on the client's NLS settings.

  • Not able to login into presentations server

    Hi,
I have installed OBIEE in my local machine. As a part of report creation I have created an rpd file and changed the NQSConfig.ini file as mentioned in
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/bi_ee_1013/bi_admin/biadmin.html.
Then I have re-started the OC4J server and all the OBIEE services. Then I open the Presentation Services, I am not able to log in. The error shown is

I have already gone through the forums which are already logged reporting the same error. But I dint get any pointers to the solution.
Please let me know what might have gone wrong and how I can login to the Presentation Server and continue with report creation. Please let me know if you need further information on this .
Thanks in advance for your time,

  • Sending Hebrew Strings From Java to ABAP

    Hello everybody,
I'm trying to send a string from WebDynpo Java code to a SAP transaction on the R3 system.
When I'm sending a string in English it arrives correctly
When I'm sending a string in Hebrew it arrives as a sequence of question marks.
Does anyone knows what kind of conversions do I need to do so I'll be able to send Hebrew strings?
    Thanks in advance, Adi.

    Hi,
When u say that you are sending a hebrew string did you localized ur string usig ResourceBundle class from your Webdynpro, check it first.
Refer SAP OSS notes for how to send String other than English to R/3 system and detailed configuration required.
Refer this for help on Localization,
    • Internationalization is used for adapting already existing Webdynpros application
Without changing the source code so that they can be used in several multi lingual languages.
    • Here we keep text strings separately from the application source code in a particular format(keys & values) so they can be processed in the standard translation mechanism.
    • Here frequently used texts such as labels or titles are stored as java dictionary simple types objects.
    • To do internationalization, copy the automatically generated *.xlf files and save them under the new name in the same directory.
    • For eg :- file convention like <old filename>_<language key>.xlf. Ex:- For German use the language key de.
    • For a particular user the locale is specified by the User management engine.
    • If not the locale is handled by the browser setting(HTTP Headers)
    • If not the default locale specified by the application will be returned.
    • If not default locale of the Virtual Machine(VM) is returned
    • This locale is passed to java.lang.ResourceBundle in the J2EE engine.
    • This will load the physically existing resource bundle either from any one of the following :-
Resource bundle of WD(if exists) or resource bundle of VM (if exists) or
Resource Bundle of without language suffix(always exists) given by the developer.
I will post if anything strikes me.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards,
    Guru

  • Does OATS support recording for Globalization and Localization?

We are looking to automate an EBS application that support 30 different languages and also has localization for some countries. Can we use OATS for regression automation? Does OATS support Globalization and Localization?

If you are testing web application, It requires to have webdom.api imported and reference scriptservice in the class.
    import oracle.oats.scripting.modules.webdom.api.*;
    public class script extends IteratingVUserScript {
         @ScriptService oracle.oats.scripting.modules.webdom.api.WebDomService web;
Then you can reference in your script depending on the component that you are trying to drag.  Below command will give you some idea on how to do it.
    web.element("{{obj.Reservation.LTB Rate Code Select}}").dragTo("{{obj.Reservation.LTB Trip Composer Est Grand Total}}");
    Thanks,
    Sri
