Localized sound files

Hi, does anyone have any experience with submitting apps to the App Store where the app contains sound samples that have to be localized? We have an app that will ship into 7 markets and therefore needs 7 sets of samples in the appropriate language.
Unfortunately the samples are contributing to a larger app size and we don't want to ship 7 times the samples actually IN the app.
Does anyone know if it's possible to create 7 versions of your app, each one containing the appropriate set of samples and submit that version to the appropriate countries App store?
Hope that makes some sense
Thanks in advance for any help with this...I'm not sure where else to ask this question - we don't want to use up a support call with Apple for this as it's not really a technical issue, it's a distribution issue!

I am doing something similar - I have a European version of my app already out and for reasons of size, I'm working on a separate US version. I can't see any particular problems with your idea as it's straightforward to choose which countries you wish to sell your app in. But are the samples really that large? It will be a right pain when you have to update 7 separate versions!

  • Playing local sound file

    I need to play an mp3 file in my AIR app. But I won't
    necessarily know the path to the file because I need to use things
    like the storage directory. So, would I have to do something like
    this to get that done:
    var file:File =
    File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("path/to/mp3");
    var urlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest(file.nativePath);
    and then load the sound from that? Or is there some way that
    AIR has provided to skip the first step?
    Thanks!
    Kyle

    @ paus akid,
    There are two things wrong here.
    One, you should never use a nativePath in place of a URL.
    This happens to work on Windows because the nativePath is
    interpreted as an absolute path. However, on Mac and Linux, a
    nativePath is indistinguishable from a relative URL. Since relative
    URLs are resolved against the application directory (in general),
    you get the app:/ URL scheme. So change:
    var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(file.nativePath);
    to:
    var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(file.url);
    The second issue is that you don't initialize your file
    object before using it to resolve a second path. Instead of:
    var file:File = new File();
    file = file.resolvePath(currentRandomSong);
    You should do something like this (using the appropriate
    directory):
    var file:File = File.usersDirectory("path/to/mp3");

    cross-platform AIR applications for more information.

  • Loading local sound into UIWebView?

    I'm able to successfully load a local html-file into a UIWebView, and from that load a local image via the html-code.
    Loading a local sound-file from the UIWebView, however, is a different matter.
    Does anybody know why the code below only manages to display a local image but no local sound, and what the solution would be?
    (you can find the code here sinc this forum does not enable showing code unformatted in any way that I know of):
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=6730846&posted=1#post6730846

    mTheBackgroundPath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"black_background" ofType:@"jpg"];
    mTheBackgroundPath = [ mTheBackgroundPath stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:@"/" withString:@"//"];
    mTheBackgroundPath = [ mTheBackgroundPath stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:@" " withString:@"%20"];
    mTheBackgroundPath = [@"file://" stringByAppendingString:mTheBackgroundPath];
    Then I just used that path in the background="" tag in the body of the html.

  • Event ID 1012 - There was an error while attempting to read the local hosts file

    When I start my Computer after it has been turned off overnight (switched off at the Power supply) I get a Blue screen and have to reboot the PC. in the Event log it has this error: Event ID 1012 - DNS client events - There was an error while attempting
    to read the local hosts file.
    Once the PC has booted evrything is O.K. I can restart the PC with no problems, it only seems to happen if the PC has been switched off for a while.

    After further Investigation it seems that this error is Not responsible for my Blue screening......I started my PC after leaving it off all night, and it started normally, but i still have this error in the Event Log - System.....I have searched the Technet
    forums (and there is a lot of ID 1012 errors) but non relating to my problem....If anyone knows what is causing this error and how to fix it, i'd be Grateful....although it does not seem to affect the PC in any way that i can see.
    thanks

    Since Windows system uses separated user mode and kernel mode memory space, stop errors are always caused by kernel portion components, such as a third-party device drivers, backup software or anti-virus services (buggy services).
    The system goes to a BSOD because there is some exceptions happened in the kernel (either the device driver errors or the service errors), and Windows implements this mechanism: When it detects some errors occur in the kernel, it will kill the box in case
    some more severe damage happens. Then we get a blue screen or the system reboots (it depends on what the system settings are).
    To troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. A suggestion would be to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that
    a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.
    To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:
    Microsoft - Help and Support
    If you are outside the US please see
    Microsoft Worldwide Home for regional support phone numbers.
    Meantime we can try some available steps as a general troubleshoot.
    1. Please remove the antivirus and run the system with a period. If the issue does not occur, mainly focus on antivirus settings and compatibility.
    2. Disable Automatic Restart and see detail information on the blue screen.
    1).Click Start, in the Start Search box enter sysdm.cpl.
    2).Click the tab Advanced. Under Startup and Recovery, click the Settings button.
    3). Uncheck “Automatically restart”.
    4). On the drop-down menu “Write debugging information”, choose “Small memory dump”.
    5). Click OK.
    When Blue Screen displays, you may find some useful information.

              Internally, it works like this: AudioSystem.write()
             contains a loop that is trying to read from the passed
             AudioInputStream. Since there is a special AudioInputStream
             that gets data from a TargetDataLine, reading from the
             AudioInputStream leads to reading from the TargetDataLine. The
             data read this way is then written to the passed File. Before
             writing of audio data starts, a header is written according
             to the desired audio file type. Reading continues until no
             more data can be read from the AudioInputStream. In this case,
             it happens if no more data can be read from the TargetDataLine.
             This happens if the TargetDataLine is stopped. Then,
             the file is closed and 'AudioSystem.write()' returns.

    Hi
    I Learned how to read a file text and Parse as StringTokenizer. But still i don't know how to read the Individual tokens into to database.
    But now i face a new Problem, i am not able to sort it out.
    i am posting my code

                         if(st.hasMoreTokens())
                        System.out.println(st.nextToken());
            } finally {
                if (inputStream != null) {
                    inputStream.close();
    }Here the Problem is The file.csv has got two fields ID, NAME The content of this file is as follows
    T12,MR.RAJ KUMAR
    T13,MR.EARNEST DIES
    T14,MR.MATHEW HYDEN
    Now when i StringTokenize this File The Output printed as follows
    T12,MR.RAJ
    T13,MR.EARNEST
    T14,MR.MATHEW
    That means when it finds the Space it is not printing the Remaining Text.
    Please Help me in this and then Tell me how to INSER The Tokens into the Database Table
    Thank you for your service
    Cheers

  • There was a problem connecting to the server "my server.local" this file is available on your computer. Access the files and volumes locally.

    Hi,
    I have a strange problem connecting one of the office laptops (Macbook Pro 10.7) to the disk in the Apple Time Capsule.  It's just one laptop that has this problem and the other 3 no problems at all and they all run OS X 10.7 Lion, I can access the Time Capsule disk over WAN on all machines but locally on the problem machine i get this message "There was a problem connecting to the server "myserver.local" this file is available on your computer. Access the files and volumes locally."   Now from this message it sounds like the problem laptop thinks the network drive (Time Capsule) is the same as it's self in the way of name or address however they clearly have different IP addresses locally.
    Any ideas on this would be apreciated as I can only think a clean install but don't want to do this if not necessary.
    Thanks
    Jarrah

    I think I gave you some bad info in the above, where i enterered the text "myserver.local" & "example.local" this was the host name of the server (Time Capsule) so not local on the computer.
    No i didn't try your method, I'll give it a go - I thought the folder option was for local files and not on a server ?

  • Need to play and stop sound file with 1 ms resolution

    Hi,
    I'm trying to open a .wav file then later play it at a time when another parallel loop activates a boolean local variable which controls playback in my "sound" loop. I need high time resolution in stopping the playing of the .wav file, ~1ms. From what I've gathered, I can't use the "sound output write.vi" because it locks the loop until it finishes outputting a set number of samples. Because of this, "sound output stop.vi" has to wait until the next iteration, which is more than ~1 ms.
    In the help menu of the Sound Ouput VIs it says you can set the task ID for the "sound output start.vi" using the "sound output configure.vi." Unfortunately I've only been able to use the "sound output start.vi" following "play sound file.vi", and I don't really know why this is the case.
    I can't start my sound with the "play sound file.vi" because it locks the loop its in until it finishes playing the sound. Oddly this only happens when there is a parallel loop running, if I run it by itself, with no other loops, it doesn't lock the loop. I thought it might have something to do with the local variable, but the loop doesn't lock when the loop restarts the sound using the "sound output start.vi."
    After opening a .wav file, can i use the "sound output configure.vi" to create a task ID for the "sound output start.vi" to work? Or do I have to use the "sound output write.vi" after calling the "sound output configure.vi." The help menu makes it seem like the prior suggestion is possible.
    Thanks a lot!

    Since it sounds like the problem you're running into is getting the data loaded from the file before you're ready to play it, look at the Files sub-palette, specifically the Sound File Read Simple VI.  You can use this VI to load the data into a waveform and have it ready for use later in the program.
    So in your overall program, read the file with Sound File Read Simple and configure the output with Sound Output Configure and call Sound Output Write when you're ready to play the waveform.

  • Sound files not playing from inDesign SWF file

    Using Dropbox file transfer, I'm sending a colleague an inDesign project  as a SWF file - a flip book with audio. The files in Dropbox are the SWF Movie files, the HTML and the Resources folder. My colleague is trying upload these to his website. I presumed the sound files would go up via my colleagues FTP and Flash player would link to them. The sound files are functioning. Can anyone outline the procedure one should follow to get Flash to engage with this?   Is there a better locale fo this thread?

    That's what I thought too, but all files are there.  I used to have numerous files (6-8) in a dropbox folder with all parts: cptx, htm, swf, js and the html would play fine by just clicking on the link.  Once it started not working I made individual folders with each part of the file and included them into each seperate folder.  Still not loading/opening.  This is happening to everyone I send the link to.  I've tried opening it in different browsers too.
    Here is a link if anyone wants to see what happens:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/460vq2nqu4dbwf1/courseconnect_training_2013.htm
    Here is how I am including each part of the file in the actual folder:

  • Error while refreshing a report using local csv file

    Hi,
    I'm using BI 4.1 SP02.
    While using Rich client, I've created a report with some merged queries, while one of the queries is a local CSV file - saved on AD in some server, and not on the repository inside BO.
    While trying to refresh the report with the Rich client, it all went great.
    Now, while using BI Launchpad java based app, I can't refresh the report - I get the following error:
    "An Internal error occurred while calling 'processDPCommandsEx' API. (Error: ERR_WIS_30270) (WIS 30270)"
    Should I be able to refresh a report without the Rich if it contains a local file (which is possible to EDIT only with rich) ?
    If so, then did someone ran into this error?
    Thank you,
    Or.

    First of all, thanks for both of the replies.
    Second,
    my problem is unlikely have to do something with permissions from one reasons -
    when the report is using XLS\XLSX on same folder(with same name prefix) - the report is running without any problem.
    Only problem is while refreshing without Rich while the source is network CSV file.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • How can I transfer a sound file from my "Voice Memos" app on my iPhone to my iPad?

    How can I transfer a sound file from my "Voice Memos" app on my iPhone to my iPad?

    In iTunes with your iPhone connected, click on the iPhone device, select the Apps tab, scroll down to the File Sharing section and pick an app that plays Quicktimes ("Files Connect" works in this example, but I'm open to suggestions of better apps for playing transferred Quicktimes) and drag your Quicktime from Finder to the Documents pane for the File Sharing app.   Once the file transfer is complete, go to the app on your iPhone to play the Quicktime.

  • How do I get a handle on embedded sound files?

    From the Sound Class information, it says to use the SoundMixer Class to handle embedded Sound Files.  I have two sound files embedded, that I have setup in 2 separate layers, starting at frame one in the main timeline.  I needed to do this so I could see the wave files, and coordinate text with the waves.  I do not want to load these files into the .swf file at runtime using URLRequest.  How do I get a handle on those as they exist, to make each controllable by separate volume and mute controls for each sound?
    This will be a challenging question, because, "it can't be done" doesn't work for me.  I managed to create a way to use an external classfile to control the main timeline, the ROOT timeline, without having to create a sub movie to root.  I can use my component to call play(); as though it were in code in a frame.  But it isn't, it's in an external classfile.  I passed root to the classfile and told the classfile to think of it as a movieclip - that put the handle on it.  I tried similar way with root as a Sound, but that isn't detailed enough - I need to get a handle on the frame that contains the embedded sound file.  I embedded, attached it, using the properties view for the frame.
    I've attached, or whatever you want to call it, these sound files to a frame, and this frame is or should be attached to the layer I've created.  So, under the assumption that the ROOT has everything attached to it in some manner (it is after all the foundation for the COM), the stage of the root contains the visual components, so ROOT has to have the layer objects attached to it, which should have the frame objects attached to the layers.  I have two layers that each have a .wav file attached to frame one.  Somehow Flash keeps track of that - I want to know how Flash does it so I can read what flash reads.
    If this seems redundant, it probably is.  I want to paint the best picture I know how so I can get detailed feedback.  Please, if you have questions ask them so we can clarify, and get this resolved!  Thanks for reading!

    lol.
    ok, it can be done.  keep working on it.

  • How to display local HTML file in web-view?

    Hello everyone,
    we have no problem with showing of remote HTML content from server in box on page in web view. But how we can show such a content when included in HTMLResources? In guide is just "Display a local HTML file in an in-app browser", which works wihout problem, but we don't want to show this HTML content in in-app viewer, it should be part of page.
    Thanks
    Martin

    Now i'm confused. In guide is this:
    To use local HTML files, click the folder icon and specify the local HTML file. The HTML file (such as index.html) should appear in a folder that includes any images or scripts used in the HTML file.
    But no info where such a local HTML file should reside. If this file is in HTMLResources, it is ignored.

  • How can I use a sound file on one slide, which fades to another sound file on the next?

    I am trying to make a slide show that begins with a certain sound file, which then I hope to fade out to the second slide which uses a different sound file, I've followed Apple's online tutorials, but what happens is I get two sound files playing simultaneously. Also, I'd like to add sounds files to different individual slides throughout the presentation, which I want to play independently from the entire slide show's sound track. I have programmed the slides to change automatically. Is there any way I can have multiple sound files on multiple slides all playing independently, without playing over the top of the previous sound file? I imagine this is a simply task, so my apologies if this is the case. Thanks in advance for any help!
    kind regards,

    Getting sound to work right in Keynote requires a basic understanding that:
    1. Sound played during slide transitions (from one slide to the next) must be placed in the Document Inspector > Audio > Soundtrack Well - there can only be one audio file and it plays across all slides
    2. Additional sounds files can be placed on individual slides as sound objects - each object can have build-in and build-out assignments, but sound files need at least a Build-In > Start Audio (done in the Build Inspector) - each object, wether a shape, image, sound or movie can have discrete start timing such that the start of one sound object can be delayed X seconds after the previous event. This can be used to avoid overlapping starts or playing. If you know the length of each sound file object, you can adjust the start to occur after the end of a previous sound using the Build Inspector. Click on the More Options Button to display the event build-order list and click on the event to reveal how the build starts and add any delays to start there.
    3. Keynote does not have a Fade Feature - any fade-in or fade-out (sound up/sound down) of audio files must be done to the sound file using third party applications and then brought into Keynote. If you'd like to join the crowd wishing Apple might add this feature in the future, you can provide feedback to Apple here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    4. If you need an audio file to play across a few slides and another audio file to play across another few slides, break the presentation into seperate documents, place the audio in the soundtrack well for each document and then add a hyperlink object to connect to the next Keynote document in the series. Note: all files must be "opened" in the background and ready to play or else the next file will attempt to start but stall just when you don't need it to.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I add a sound file to my iPad app?

    I know absolutely nothing about working with sound files in Cocoa, so it would be great if I could get some advice on the following:
    -What type of file should I be using? (I used QuickTime to record the sound clip, and that made it a .mov - should I rerecord it with something else?)
    -Once I have the file ready to go, how do I get it into my xib file so the user can press a button and the app will play the sound?
    Thank you!

    You need to know how to add a framework and resources to your project, and how to wire up a button action in IB.
    I use .wav files, but only because they're compatible and common for my needs. File names are case sensitive w/iOS, so be sure they match with your code.
