Aperture won't recognize Panasonic JPG files

I just recently picked up a Panasonic DMC-FZ200.  All of my previous photography has been with Nikon/Canon.
I took a SD card with some JPG files and when I go to import it, Aperture shows no files on the card.  When I look at the card in Finder, the files are all there and readable.  So I used Finder to copy the files to my hard drive.
I went into Aperture and pointed it to the hard drive directory where the JPG files were.  They show up in Finder, they don't show up in Aperture.
I go into iPhoto, point it to my Aperture Library, and then I ask iPhoto to import the images from the SD card.  That works fine.  iPhoto has no problem.  I then quit iPhoto and bring up Aperture using the same library and the pictures show up just fine.  So my question is this:  Why can iPhoto see these pictures and bring them into the Aperture Library, but Aperture can't see the pictures on the same card plugged into the same computer.
As an FYI, I have the latest versions of both Mountain Lion and Aperture, and the computer is a Macbook Pro mid-2012 15" retina display with 16GB of memory.

Frank,
I can't thank you enough.  I normally am set to RAW + JPEG and I usually shoot both.  This morning I shot some RAW only and I am guessing that the setting automatically flipped to RAW ONLY as a result?  And then it stayed there when I showed up with my JPEG only?
Anyway, I've been using Aperture for several years and processed many thousands of photos through it without running into this and was at my wits end before I posted.  I can't thank you enough for the help.
The people on these forums are the best.  My hat is off to you, Frank Caggiano.

i tried to get the installation disc for the camcorder but mac wont' recognize it becaue it is windows based i guess.
i just bought the camcorder a few months ago and when my computer crashed thought i'm finally getting a mac...it's been a costly venture which has resulted in more frustration than before my pc.
now the things i want to use with my mac that i thought would be even simpler...are not even useable...

That camera shoots H.264 in an .avi wrapper.
You will have to transfer the files via the Finder.
Get a free copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert them to QuickTime .mov using the H.264 codec if you are presumably editing in iMovie.
Note that your list of video codecs won't look like mine as I have Final Cut Pro, but H.264 is definitely an option for you.

  • Bridge 'get photos from camera' stopped working and Bridge won't recognize my DNG files anymore

So, I've got Bridge set up to get pictures from mem.card whenever I insert one in my laptop (win. 8.1). A week ago I installed Sony's PlayMemories. Without asking me it hijacked Bridge's task of getting pictures from my cards. What's worse, I tried to fire the 'get photos from camera' function manually from Bridge. Bridge starts working, but nothing happens. I uninstalled PlayMemories and reset Bridge, also told my laptop to run Bridge whenever I insert a card. Still nothing happens and I still can't get the 'get photos' function to run manually from Bridge. Anyway, I can still rund the DNG converter to get my pictures, but today Bridge won't recognize my DNG files - worked fine yesterday. I downloaded CS6 from this link https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html  and tried to run the installer, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe I need to do a full uninstall off CS6 for it to do anything..?  Anyway, if any of you guys could help me with my Bridge/CS6 issues I'd be grateful.  I've got 3 sets of concert photos and a snowboard comp. shoot I need to finish this week

  • DVD Studio Pro 1.5 Won't Recognize Any Video Files

Hello, everyone! I guess this might be a little prehistoric, but I really need help. I have the dinosaur, DVD Studio Pro 1.5, and for some reason it won't recognize any .m2v's, .mpeg's, or anything else. As I understand it, DVD Studio Pro 1.5 will only take MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files, but whenever I use them, it says, "Error: Unknown File Type," in the Log.
Can someone help me? Perhaps there is a way to make it accept more than just MPEG-1 & 2?
    Thanks so much!

Well, I used the requirements for Widescreen NTSC in BitVice. The requirements are given in the DVD Studio Pro 1.5 manual. However, when I went to drag the file into DVD Studio Pro 1.5, the log came up and said: ERROR: 480 is not the proper height for a PAL file.
So, I knew that it must only want PAL files.
    Another problem:
To apply videos for a Motion Menu, I am supposed to click on the menu in the Graphical View, and go to "Asset" under "Picture," and select the video I want. The problem is, it won't show ANY .m2v's in the Asset drop box. It will show my Photoshop files, though. And, I'm sorry to say that those files you offered me didn't work either. (They didn't show up under the Asset drop box.)
[Thanks so much, by the way! They had NO trouble importing to DVD Studio Pro!]
Here's a picture of my computer and the missing files in the "Assets" drop box.

  • New Canon Rebel XSI, and Aperture won't read the .CS2 files properly??

    Hello all,
I have read through the posts but didn't fine one that answered my question. I just bought a Canon XSI and tried to upload my RAW files to Aperture, and first it showed the "unsupported image format" red screen. After messing around I could get it to see the images, but they were the size of thumbnails. It will read the JPG files fine. The Aperture site says that the CR2 files should work. I also tried deleting the rawfile in the system folder and re-ran the installer for 2.1 update, didn't change a thing. My Aperture version is 2.1.1. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    John

Lucked out and figured out the real problem thanks to Mark Olson's blog:
    http://markolson.ca/2008/07/17/canon-eos-450d-rebel-xsi-cr2-raw-on-mac/
It turns out that the problem was related to RAW+JPG. Mac does not import the RAW files properly and I should have suspected this being the problem when I noticed the RAW file size was way too small (exact same size as the JPG file).
Luckily I had not deleted the files from my memory card so I was able to go back and import the RAW images again. Now at this point I'm going to ask Steve to cover his eyes because I had to use Vista to download the files!
    All seems ok now.

  • Aperture does not import Nikon JPG files when RAW and JPG

I own a Nikon D2x that I download files to a Sony 40GB portable HD. When I shoot in RAW + JPG only the RAW file is imported when I connect the Sony HD to my Mac and import to Aperture.
If I open the Sony disk Icon on the Desktop, I can see both the RAW and the JPG. In fact I can finder copy both files to the Desktop with no problem.
Even when I connect the camera itself, the jpg files are not imported.
This makes me think I should just shoot in RAW and save the space on the memory card.
Why does Aperture not import the JPG files?

it does import them ... but only displays the RAW file ... if you drill down into the library package you will see them ...

  • Camera Raw won't open certain JPG files from Bridge, others open in ACR with no problem.

Edit: This was orignally posted in the Photoshop > Macintosh forum, which I failed to realize was read only. Thanks to a PM headsup, I'm reposting it here. Thanks
I've searched the internet and the Adobe forums and cannot find a direct answer to what I'm dealing with.
The issue I am having is that Bridge CS5 (current version 4.0.5.11) will open some JPG images in Raw with no problem and others nothing happens at all. All the images come from the same source (Fujifilm Frontier SP2000) so I really don't understand why Bridge ignores some of them as being openable in RAW. For example, say this roll of film has 36 images. If I "Select All", right click, and select "Open in Camera Raw", it will open whichever it deems acceptable in RAW and nothing happens at all to the others (The RAW dialog will, for instance, only open 10 images instead of all 36, and the remaining images are not altered in any way).
I've made sure that Photoshop is prefering Adobe Camera Raw with Supported Raw Files and in Camera Raw Preferences I have the box ticked to Automatically open JPGs with Settings but nothing helps.
My work around is to one file at a time in the Photoshop Open dialog, selecting an affected JPG file and have it open them as Camera Raw instead of Jpeg.
Any ideas? It's done this for quite a while and I have no idea how to fix it.
    Thanks.

  • [SOLVED] sdlmame won't recognize 7-zip files

    Hi,
I am trying to use sdlmame to play files compressed with 7-zip. But when I run sdlmame it reports that no games were found (mame.ini is pointing to the correct directory). I checked on mamedev and 7-zip archives are supported since MAME 0.145u1.
I have sdlmame 0.156.u0-1 installed. I am hoping someone can point out what I need to do for sdlmame to recognize 7-zip files. If I need to re-compile it and with what config? Thanks for any pointers!
Edit [Solved]: The issue was the directory name contained a space, I created a symlink to point to the game directory and specified the symlink in the mame.ini file. Sdlmame instantly recognized all the game files!

    [myth@mythbox ~]$ file 19xx.7z
    19xx.7z: 7-zip archive data, version 0.3
The files work fine in windows with MAME. I can extract the archive as well without issue. One thing I haven't tried is extracting and re-creating the archive with 7-zip, I wanted to see if I missed a simple step before carrying that out.

  • ITunes 7.3 won't recognize some mp3 files

I'm using iTunes 7.3 on a dual-G5 with Mac OS X 10.4.10. After upgrading, I noticed that some tracks were missing from my iTunes Library, even though they are in the iTunes Music folder. When I tried to reimport these files (by dragging them from the Finder the iTunes Library), nothing happened.
Special notes: My iTunes Music folder is not in Users/Me/Music; it's on a second local hard drive. Also, I'm not entirely certain that this problem started after upgrading to iTunes 7.3; it could have happened under an earlier version and I just didn't notice.
Investigating a little bit further, I discovered that the problematic files were all MP3 format, at least as far as I can tell. I checked them out in Media Rage (trial download) and found that their ID3 tags were empty. Now, let me point out that these were files that I ripped myself from CD, probably several years ago since I have used AAC for my more recent rips. I do know that these files and their ID3 tags worked fine and within the last year or so, which means that somewhere along the line iTunes destroyed the ID3 tags and stopped recognizing these files.
I confirmed that these files can play properly in QuickTime player. I also tried adding the ID3 tags back in using Media Rage (and ID3 v2.3.0), but iTunes still will not recognize them.
I also tried completely reinstalling iTunes, by deleting Applications/iTunes, Users/Me/Music/iTunes, and all the Users/Me/Library/Preferences plists associated with iTunes, and then downloading iTunes from www.apple.com, but this didn't solve the problem either.

I've had these songs in itunes & on my ipod before for awhile & they played just fine. Then I try to play them in itunes & itunes won't play them, even though they show up in the library & are MP3s. Quicktime player & VLC both play these files still...
I have no idea what could cause the error for these random 5 songs, which are not related to each other & come off the same CDs as other songs which are still able to be played...

  • MBP15 2009 won't recognize Panasonic TV

Hi, I have a MBP15 that since I've installed Lion (I'm up to date and have 10.7.2) has not been able to connect from my mini-display HDMI convertor by Moshi to my Panasonic Viera television.  It had always worked without a problem before the upgrade.  I have been able to use the convertor with no problem at all when using a few different Samsung LCD's.
I plug everything in, the screen flashes blue very quickly, but the TV is never recognized.  I have tried to restart with the plug in, with the plug out, I've tried to do it with the TV off/on, while in a different input and every other combination, but it never recognizes.  Occasionaly I will get a longer blue screen that makes me think its going to work, but it doesn't.  I've opened Displays and tried to detect it and that doesn't work, either.
I have tried to look through the threads, but I'm seeing more about people with Phillips TV's and not much about Panasonic.  Can anyone help or should I just call Apple?

I apologize, I wasn't thinking and put in MBP 2009, I am using a mid 2010.  I wish it would let me edit, but it won't.

  • IDVD won't recognize any QuickTime files...

Suddenly iDVD doesn't recognize any of the files I had created previous DVDs with, nor is it recognizing new .mov files I have created. QuickTime, FCP, and DVD Studio Pro all still recognize and use the .mov files.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I have deleted iDVD and reinstalled, but the problem persists...
    Any help out there?

Okay, I got on under my troubleshooting account, in which I've never even opened any of the iLife apps, populate the iPhoto library with some images off a memory stick, ditto for iTunes, and 2 of the Quicktime Movies that won't work under my regular account.
Created a brand new iPhoto slideshow and exported it through the 'share with iDVD' option as before. At the end of the slideshow export, I got an error message from iDVD saying that there were issues with the build and the movie was not a valid one, something like "it is not a movie". But, there it is, sitting in my Movies Folder as a Quicktime Movie AND I can play it with Quicktime.
So I try to do a new iDVD. Select the Revolution Template, drag in images from the iDVD media browser Photos, drag in music from the iDVD media browser Audio. All okay. Then I do the 'add a movie' choice, and drag the Quicktime Movie into the iDVD menu as before, and as before, it cannot 'find' it. I use the 'find file' again, and there it is, right where iDVD cannot see it. I select and open it, but iDVD responds by moving that 'find' to the bottom of the list and I'm caught in a gerbil wheel of 'finding' files that are right in front of me in the Finder, but can't be seen by iDVD.
I also restored all preferences from my last Time Machine save for iDVD, iPhoto, and the Media Browser. Tried it all again. No luck.
    Any ideas?

  • Gracenote CDDB Won't Recognize Backed-up Files

I backed-up my Purchased Music to DVDs, then removed them from my hard drive. When I tried to import them from the DVDs back to the hard drive, Gracenote CDDB wouldn't recognize them. Any ideas so I don't have to manually enter this info?

Matthew is correct where regular Audio discs that you buy in stores are concerned.
The reason CDDB won't find any information on your disc is because you burned a Data disc and not an Audio disc. CDDB does not recoginze Data discs. But since you already had all your ID3 tags customized in the files when you burned them to Data DVD all you have to do is use the Add To Library command in the File menu and iTunes will read the ID3 tag information.
Also, when working with music that is already in a "lossy" format you cannot use the Import command, only the Add To Library command. This also goes for AIFF or WAV files that you have on your Hard Drive that you want to put into iTunes.

  • RAW/JPG - Aperture doesn't find the JPG files anymore

    Hello,
I have all my photos on an external hard drive (referenced). Yesterday I had to format this hard drive, so I copied all photos on the hard disk of my iMac, then formatted the external hard drive and then copied all the photos back there. The hard disk still has the same name, but Aperture didn't find my photos anymore. So I selected all photos in Aperture and choose the option to reconnect the images (sorry, don't know exactely how this option is called in English, because I'm using the german version). After some time my photos were all reconnected. But some of the photos, which are RAW/JPG (RAW Master), do find the RAW now, but I can't switch to the JPG. But this did not happen to all RAW/JPG...
So I tried to move some of these photos from my external hard drive to the Aperture library (again I don't know how this is called in English). Aperture moved the RAW files into the library, but not the JPG and I also got an error "null".
So my question is, how can I reconnect the JPGs? Hope you guys understand my problem
And before someone ask, sadly I didn't thought of moving all photos into the library instead of just copying them myself so I can format the external hard drive.

Which camera are the Raw files from?

  • ITunes Won'r Recognize Some MP3 Files

I have 2400+ MP3 files in My Music folder. All were ripped using the same DVD-+RW drive, same software (WMP 10.0) and same settings (192Kbps). All were ripped within several days of each other, all from purchased CD albums.
When I tried to add these files to my brand new iTunes library (in order to transfer to my brand new 5G iPod) iTunes only recognized 1802 files. I attempted to manually add the files that weren't recognized, no joy (no error messages either, nothing). I researched the issue; I made sure the file folder permissions were appropriately set; I scanned the hard drive for physical defects; I defragmented the drive; I ran several ID3 tag verifier utilities; I played the "problem" MP3 files on every other music player software I own (WMP 10.0, RealPlayer, MusicMatch) and they played flawlessly. Lastly, I attempted to re-rip the files directly to iTunes from the original CDs; that worked, so I can safely assume there are no copyright or protected-file issues to deal with.
Short of re-ripping 600+ music files to iTunes manually, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to get these files onto iTunes?
