I restored my iPhone 4S on iTunes and it backed up all my files including my photos and everything on my phones has deleted but how do I find the backed up data? Plea help?
    Thank you

I don't understand.  If you restored the data back to a device, it should be there.  What do you mean by "how do I find the backed up data"?  If you're trying to access a specific file in a backup on icloud, you can't.  You can only restore all the backed up data to the device.  Once restored, you find your data in the Apple apps like Calendar, Reminders, etc.

When I was updating the ipad a couple of days ago, the ipad required me to restore it. icloud worked on some files  however not other such as apps and pictures. When i go to the icloud tab on the ipad the press storage and backup then press manage storage then my ipad it says the files were backed up. I see all my apps and it says my pictures were backed up. How can i find these apps and pictures to get them back on my ipad? Also I cant find them on my comouter.. Thanks for your help in advance.

When I 'control/alt/clicked' and chose "repair database" in Aperture, it quickly said there was a problem and I had to "Rebuild the database". I first quit, and made a backup just in case, then went back in and chose the "rebuild" option. IT WORKED. All the yellow triangles are gone and it even fixed a couple of the glitches with exporting I was having.
Thanks for your guidence Kirby and hope this helps others.

  • Location of backed up files?

Where is the default location where RMAN stores the backed up files on the target database on a UNIX box?
I do not see any option for file location when I use RMAN through OEM.

In Oracle8i, the location of the backed up files are determined by the 'FORMAT' clause on the ALLOCATE CHANNEL command.
    In Oracle9i, the location of the backed up files are determined by the CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/disk1/%U';
    Again, the format clause.
In Oracle Database 10g, we have the new parameter DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST which is a disk location where all recovery related files are located.
If you issue the LIST BACKUP OF DATABASE; command in RMAN, it will display the RMAN backup files and a lot more information.
    Thanks, Tammy

    Hi Sam,
I understand where you are about being your own IT department, it can be overwhelming ...
What drives to buy depends an awful lot on how you will use them, what your budget is, and your preferences.
In the case of your DP Powermac, for online storage used primarily for editing, I would add one or more internal drives first. Look for drives that are at least 7200rpm and have at least an 8MB cache. 10,000rpm/16MB cache is even better, but more expensive. Seagate Barracudas have always been good choices.
For backup purposes, I'd pick some good external FireWire drives; you can also use these for online editing, lots of people do. Your Mac has both FW400 and FW800 ports - either kind is fine but if you get drives that support both, you would want to connect them to the FW800 port for the added performance.
In my experience, the Lacie d2 Extreme drives have been very very good. In fact I have 3 of them daisy-chained off my iMac G5 right now and they work flawlessly with FCE. Weibetech and Granite Digital drives are further upscale in performance and price. RAID configurations would be even further upscale. Do stay away from consumer level hard drives, however ... the Western Digital MyBook series & no-name drives come to mind ...
Don't use a FireWire hub for your external drives, it's just asking for trouble.
ps. And thanks for your nice comment about me. I'm happy to help, as are other folk in the forum.

  • Mail file location & back-up

Would like to know the location of the files of 'Mail' - so that I can back them up.
    Thank you

    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    The majority is in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip... only the plist is separate.

When I was backing up files from my computer to my external drive, I inadvertently dragged my itunes library to the external drive. Now I can only play my library when my external drive is plugged into my computer. How do I get the library location changed back to my computer?

Your drive was used with a PC and formatted NTFS which is proprietary Microsoft format.
You need to install a third party program that will read the NTFS format.
There is various software from PARAGON, Tuxera and NTFS-3G
When you get the data off and have verified it to be good, reformat the drive either HFS+ for Mac use only, or for Mac and PC use then MSDOS (FAT32) for under 4GB files (best) or exFAT (for larger than 4GB files) is proprietary and Microsoft is appling for a patent, which would likely mean OS X won't be allowed to read it anymore without a licensing fee and you'l have to pay another third party software company to read the format, just like NTFS is.
The less you have to rely upon third party sources to read your drives the better, this way if you have a issue and need to read the drive on another machine you don't need the software, and a internet connection and a credit card and...and...and...

  • I need help every time my iTunes library updates i get this error messege: The iTunes.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder. but the file should be there.

Every time I have to upgrade iTunes it gives me this messege:'The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder.' the file should be there but I don't understand why it does this every time Apple upgrades the Itunes library. Its on the computer somewhere but it only affects this login on my computer (meaning on this Windows Account). Why does my iTunes do this? Then I have to spend hours placing all my libraries back together and all my music back into the library. Which usually takes me a few days to sort all out. What is wrong with my iTunes? The iTunes folder is a folder in my Music folder where I store the iTunes music/files/libraries at on my computer so I can have all of the iTunes files in one place on my computer.

I have a Windows 7 operating system my computer runs from.

  • Back-up file exists on my computer but iTunes can't browse it

    Hi all,
I am having a problem with finding my backup data. Hope to find someone who can help this.
So this morning, I decided to restore my iPhone 5 to the default setting. I backed up all the data in my iPhone to iTunes before restoring.  After restoring, iPhone was rebooted, white screen showed up with greeting, and it asked for settings such as language, country, network setting those kinds of stuff.  iPhone was still connected with iTunes, and iTunes asked me if I want to restore data from back up file. I hit yes and iPhone started getting restored the backup data.
Problem happened here: iPhone accidentally disconnected, and iTunes stopped restoring and iPhone was rebooted again. I connected iPhone with iTunes again, and it started synchronizing instead of restoring backup data. And at the same time iTunes backed up data of iPhone which has not been restored the backup data yet. So a new backup file, which is just default status, was created and it was overwritten on the actual backup file that contained all my photos and everything.
I went to Edit-Preferences-Devices menu, and the original backup file (which contains all data) doesn't show on the list.
But I found a little hope:
This is the capture of back up folder where the backup files are stored (Sorry I use Korean version of Windows 7)
    The location is: Users\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\backup
This is the capture of Edit-Preferences-Devices menu on iTunes (Sorry again, it's Korean version of iTunes)
As you see, there are 6 backup files showing on Edit-Preferences-Devices menu.  One is from my previous iPhone 4S, and two were created back in Febraury, and the last three backup files are created today at 11:24AM, 11:37AM, and 7:58PM.
But there are 8 folders in backup folder. One folder on the very top were created back in 2012. I guess this is the backup file for my previous iPhone 4S. Two folders under it were created back in Feb. This makes sense because there are 2 backup files which were created in February showing on Devices menu. The bottom three folders were created today at 11:34AM, 11:37AM and 7:59PM, which matches to the backup file list on Devices menu.
There are extra 2 folders created at 10:50AM and 10:52AM today. (See red box) I believe the one created at 10:50AM is the original backup file that contains all my data because the size of that folder is 5.20GB. The one created at 10:52AM is 0kb. And none of the folders created at 11:34AM, 11:37AM and 7:59PM exceeds 10MB, which makes sense because these backup files were created after restoring. Doesn't have any data.
So here goes my question: how can I restore data from the back up file created at 10:50AM?
I would really appreciate your help.

    Updates:
I found why the original backup file is not showing on iTunes. Becuase it is corrupted.
All other folders contains Infor.plist, Manifest.mbdb, Manifest.plist and Status plist files.
But the folder that contains origianal backup files does not have those files above.
I think the only way I can restore the data is using third party extracting software.
Do you know anything about that kind of software?

I have lightroom 5.7. Now I have apple TV to connect my Mac to the TV scree. I wish to do a slide show on the TV. However, on the Mac, using ITunes to share photos with the TV, I cannot locate all photo files. What is the best way to save the slide show and put it where the Mac sharing can find it? So far, I made on one folder in Lightroom, put some photos there and I found them easily. Can this be done with a slide show? Please help quickly! Also worried that the photos I put on the new folder are hard to find afterwards, when the show is done. Where do they go when I delete from from the new folder?I am not alone

Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.

  • Lightroom - how to restore backed up files (not Lightroom catalogue) from one external drive to another?

How to restore backed up files (not lightroom catalogue) from one external drive to another.
I recently backuped my photo files from one external drive to another. The backup (carbon copy cloner) pointed to some corrupt files on the original drive.
I have deleted those files and am finding good copies of them  in Time Machine backups.
I want to get rid of the original external drive; use the recent backup as my main external and then back it up onto a brand new drive.
What I am not sure about is how to point lightroom to the backups so it knows to look on the new drive instead of the old drive and all those exclamation marks and question marks go away.
There are close to 60,000 images in numerous folders all with one 'parent folder.'
My best guess is from Lightroom Help - Create and Manage Folders -  Locate Missing Folders
Can I point to the one parent folder and all the subfolders will come back?
Is this the process to recover files into lightroom and will there be a problem with so many photos?

  • Can you install windows from a back up file on external hard drive?

I originally received Windows 7 Professional from a friend who was in computer sciences at the local university and received free software as a perk. It was downloaded and burned onto a disc, which she loaned to me so I could use it with Bootcamp. There were some issues with the registration, but after some time with Windows tech support everything was set up and working well, fully legal. I am no longer in contact with the friend, and I returned the boot disk to her, hence my current problem.
Today I decided to expand my bootcamp partition by using winclone to create an image, then merging the partitions and repartitioning with boot camp assistant. Unfortunately winclone didn't work for some reason. When creating the image I got an error message telling me to check the logs, which I unfortunately ignored since it appeared to have worked anyways. Now when I try to restore the image to the botcamp partition I get the error "Image file not found."
I did a back up of my windows partition before I started everything, so I still have my data. The problem is getting it back into the partition... I have a blank partition sitting there with no operating system. Is there some way to completely reinstall windows onto a blank partition using only the back up files?
As far as I know none of my friends have a start-up disk that I could borrow, and being a poor student I don't have the $300 to buy another copy of the operating system.

Thank you Andaleeb. I appear to have an old backup of a year ago, and a more recent full back up plus an incremental backup.
Regrettably I don't really understand what is going on because firstly the restore does not complete its cycle so I cannot see what that backup file contains and secondly all I have read would suggest that the .tly file is the full backup and the catalog.buc file is the incremental backup. For the present, the catalog shows the photos for 2014 which makes me think I might have backed from the old back up file.
I am minded to create another catalog and try again.
Any views on what I can do?
A backup (full or incremental) is a folder, not a file. It contains renamed pictures file copies as well a copies of the files and subfolders of the original catalog. The catalog.buc is a renamed copy of the database of your original catalog while the backup.tly. That backup.tly file contains the information to restore the renamed pictures where you decide, the original location or a new custom one. You can't do anything with the backup yourself, only the restore process can do the job if it finds the backup.tly file. In the case of an incremental backup, you have to tell the restore process where to find the incremental backup folder; it finds the backup.tly file in that folder and finds what is to restore there; then it asks you for the previous backup folder (in your case the full backup); you then browse to that full backup folder so that the restore process can find find the backup.tly there; the restore then deals with the rest of the files to restore.
