  • Very high log file sequential read and control file sequential read waits?

    I have a 10.2.0.4 database and have 5 streams capture processes running to replicate data to another database. However I am seeing very high
    log file sequential read and control file sequential read by the capture procesess. This is causing slowness in the database as the databass is wasting so much time on these wait events. From AWR report
    Elapsed: 20.12 (mins)
    DB Time: 67.04 (mins)
    and From top 5 wait events
    Event Waits Time(s) Avg Wait(ms) % Total Call Time Wait Class
    CPU time 1,712 42.6
    log file sequential read 99,909 683 7 17.0 System I/O
    log file sync 49,702 426 9 10.6 Commit
    control file sequential read262,625 384 1 9.6 System I/O
    db file sequential read 41,528 378 9 9.4 User I/O
    Oracle support hasn't been of much help, other than wasting my 10 days and telling me to try this and try that.
    Do you have streams running in your environment, are you experiencing this wait. Have you done anything to resolve these waits..
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forums.
    There is insufficient information in what you have posted to know that your analysis of the situation is correct or anything about your Streams environment.
    We don't know what you are replicating. Not size, not volume, not type of capture, not rules, etc.
    We don't know the distance over which it is being replicated ... 10 ft. or 10 light years.
    We don't have any AWR or ASH data to look at.
    etc. etc. etc. If this is what you provided Oracle Support it is no wonder they were unable to help you.
    To diagnose this problem, if one exists, requires someone on-site or with a very substantial body of data which you have not provided. The first step is to fill in the answers to all of the obvious first level questions. Then we will likely come back with a second level of questioning.
    But when you do ... do not post here. Your questions are not "Database General" they are specific to Streams and there is a Streams forum specifically for them.
    Thank you.

  • Crystal Report Server Database Log File Growth Out Of Control?

    We are hosting Crystal Report Server 11.5 on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise.  Our Crystal Report Server SQL 2005 database file size = 6,272 KB, and the log file that goes with the database has a size = 23,839,552.
    I have been reviewing the Application Logs and this log file size is auto-increasing about 3-times a week.
    We backup the database each night, and run maintenance routines to Check Database Integrity, re-organize index, rebuild index, update statistics, and backup the database.
    Is it "Normal" to have such a large LOG file compared to the DATABASE file?
    Can you tell me if there is a recommended way to SHRINK the log file?
    Some Technical Documents suggest frist truncating the log, and the using the DBCC SHRINKFILE command:
    USE CRS
    GO
    --Truncate the log by changing the database recovery model to SIMPLE
    ALTER DATABASE CRS
    SET RECOVERY SIMPLE;
    --Shrink the truncated log file to 1 gigabyte
    DBCC SHRINKFILE (CRS_log, 1000);
    GO
    --Reset the database recovery model.
    ALTER DATABASE CRS
    SET RECOVERY FULL;
    GO
    Do you think this approach would help?
    Do you think this approach would cause any problems?

    my bad you didn't put the K on the 2nd number.
    Looking at my SQL server that's crazy big my logs are in the k's like 4-8.
    I think someone enabled some type of debugging on your SQL server, it's more of a Microsoft issue, as our product doesn't require it from looking at my SQL DB's

  • ADS MA : the XML exported file (export to log file) doesn't export Distinguished Name in the attribute member for a group

    Hello,
    I am facing a weird issue during the export of a group to a log file (xml).
    I have configured my ADLDS management agent such as the export run profile exports data into a XML Ffile:
    Everything is fine in the XML, I see my new accounts, the attributes updated for accounts but for an unknown reason the group which should contains accounts does
    not contain the DN values.
    It contains the tags <dn-value> and <dn> but <dn> is empty
    e.g:
    <delta operation="update" dn="CN=GroupX,OU=Users,DC=ZZZZ">
     <anchor encoding="base64">XDSQDQDQ</anchor>
     <dn-attr name="member" operation="add" multivalued="true">
      <dn-value>
       <dn/>
      </dn-value>
      <dn-value>
       <dn/>
      </dn-value>
     </dn-attr>
    During the export, FIM updates the attribute "member" of the group:
    Member attribute seems to be caught by FIM during synchro profile and export profil bt not translates correctly in the final xml file.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your reply.

    Thinking the same thing as David - sounds like a bug - but that's curious because I've never had a problem with the AD MA doing exactly the same thing, albeit with FIM R1 most recently.  What version of FIM are you using, and have you checked the
    release notes of any subsequent versions to see if any such issue is mentioned?

  • Log files full of service broker errors, but it works OK

    We have a C# web application that is using SQL dependency to expire cached query data. Although everything is working okay we are seeing a lot of errors being generated particularly in our production environment.
    The first error messages is this:
    Service Broker needs to access the master key in the database 'SubscriberManager'. Error code:32. The master key has to exist and the service master key encryption is required.
    It shows up in both the server event log and the SQL server log files. I believe the actual content of the messages something of a red herring as I have created a database master key.
    I have also tried
    Recreating both the service master key and the database master key.
    Made sure the database owner is sa.
    Made sure the user account has permissions to create services, queues, procedures and subscribe query notifications
    Made sure the broker is enabled
    I have seen other people with similar errors whilst researching the issue but the error code almost always seems to be 25 or 26 not 32. I have been unable to find anything that tells me what these error codes mean so I'm not sure of the significance.
    Also I am seeing a lot of errors like this:
    The query notification dialog on conversation handle '{2FA2445B-1667-E311-943C-02C798B618C6}.' closed due to the following error: '-8490Cannot find the remote service 'SqlQueryNotificationService-7303d251-1eb2-4f3a-9e08-d5d17c28b6cf' because
    it does not exist.'.
    I understand that a certain number of these are normal due to the way that SqlDependency.Stop doesn't clean everything up in the database, but we are seeing thousands of these on one of our production servers.
    What is frustrating as we have been using SQL notifications for several years now without issue so something must have changed in either our application or the server setups to cause this but at this point I have no idea what.
    The applications are .net 4.0 MVC and WCF running on Windows 2012 servers calling SQL 2012 servers also running on Windows 2012.

    Hi Mark,
    1. for your question about possible memory pressure, if the used memory is below the Max Server Memory, then it's OK. If you have not set Max Server Memory, you should at least leave 4GB for your x64 system.
    2. for your original question, I suggest you can check my actions below:
    a. run this statement:
    Select name, is_master_key_encrypted_by_server
    from sys.databases
    Where name =
    'your_database_name'
    if the value of "is_master_key_encrypted_by_server" equals to "0", it means the database does not have a encrypted master key.
    b.if there is no encrypted master key, then the error may be hit by the "begin dialog conversation" statement (you can check your sql profiler trace to check".
    "Service Broker dialog security lets your application use authentication, authorization, or encryption for an individual dialog conversation (or dialog). By default,
    all dialog conversations use dialog security. When you begin a dialog, you can explicitly allow a dialog to proceed without dialog security by including the ENCRYPTION = OFF clause on the BEGIN DIALOG CONVERSATION statement. However, if a remote service binding
    exists for the service that the conversation targets, the dialog uses security even when ENCRYPTION = OFF."
    (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms166036.aspx)
    Workarounds can be disabling the dialog security (using encryption = off) or create a master key. You can find more information in about URL.

  • Modellog.log file being moved with inapproprite name. Startup is now failing.

    I ran an alter database command to move to model database to a new location.  This was a DISA STIG security requirement.  It is something I have done dozens or times successfully, but yesterday I went brain dead.
    ALTER DATABASE Model MODIFY FILE ( NAME = modellog , FILENAME = 'C:\dir\modellog. log')
    I should have proofed better, but I  just plain missed it.
    Notice the embedded space between '.' and log.  Even though the file has been copied to the correct database it is still called modellog.log not modellog. log as expected by the startup process.
    Is there any way to change the name the statup process is searching for? or is there a way to rename the file so it does contain an embedded space after the '.' ? I tried using and rename command without luck.
    Thoughts?
    Just my thoughts tomh

    Start sql server in command prompt using these startup parameters
    /f /m /t3608
    net start mssqlserver /f /m /t3608
    Once it is started, run the alter command without the space. Once this is done, shutdown SQL Server and start it normally.
    Trace flag 3608
    Prevents SQL Server from automatically starting and recovering any database except the
    master database. If activities that require tempdb are initiated, then
    model is recovered and tempdb is created. Other databases will be started and recovered when accessed. Some features, such as snapshot isolation and read committed snapshot, might not work. Use for
    Move System Databases and
    Move User Databases. Do not use during normal operation.
    Note: Please dont keep the sql server database files in C drive . That includes System database files as well. Please move it to another drive other than the system drive C.

  • Recover from missing files(redo log file/control file) and state of the DB

    Hello,
    i hv go through the doc. as well. But have some doubts what will happen in each on these situations.
    Pls help me to clarify these!
    Scenario is like this;
    hv 3 redo log files - multiplxed
    hv 3 control files - multiplxed
    - What will happen if 1 redo log file missing when starting the DB?
    - What will happen if 1 redo log file missing when using(performing operations) the DB?
    (will it recover automatically/db abort/even redo log lost will the DB run as usual... ?)
    -How to recover this lost redo log?
    - What will happen if 1 control file missing when starting the DB?
    - What will happen if 1 control file missing when using(performing operations) the DB?
    (will it recover automatically/db abort/even control file lost will the DB run as usual... ?)
    -How to recover this lost redo log?
    thanks

    - What will happen if 1 redo log file missing when starting the DB?IF you have multiplexed the members you can drop the lost file and will be able to open the DB
    What will happen if 1 redo log file missing when using(performing operations) the DB?Again if multiplexed it will drop a warinign in the alert log and contnue to write on othere members

    - What will happen if 1 control file missing when starting the DB?Just remove the entry from the init.ora and start the DB
    What will happen if 1 control file missing when using(performing operations) the DB?Will shutdown

    Hello,
    it seems that we have problem with SAP XI AF CPA Cache.
    We make this changes and after this AF Cache stops working.
    •     In the Visual Administrator, in service SAP XI AF CPA Cache, set the SLDAccess parameter to false
    •     Save your entry and start the service
    •     In service SAP XI AF CPA Cache, check that the cacheType parameter has the value DIRECTORY
    •     In service SAP XI Adapter: XI, enter values for:
    o     xiadapter.isconfig.url - http://xidev:8038/sap/xi/engine?type=entry
    o     xiadapter.isconfig.username - XIAFUSER
    o     xiadapter.isconfig.password –
    o     xiadapter.isconfig.sapClient - 001
    o     xiadapter.isconfig.sapLanguage - en
    •     On the Integration Server, use transaction SMICM to check that you have entered the correct URL for the Integration Server.
    •     On the Integration Server, use transaction SU01 to create a new user XIAFUSER
    •     Assign the role SAP_XI_AF_SERV_USER_MAIN to the user XIAFUSER
    •     In the Visual Administrator, check whether the user synchronization was successful
    •     Use the new user to log on to the Integration Server and change the initial password to master password
    Any idea for SAP XI AF CPA Cache update?

  • Request log file - Custom application version

    Application version : UNKNOWN in Request log file
    Hi,
    In the request log files for the programs registered with our custom applications, the application version is printed as UNKNOWN(first line of log file, next to custom application name).
    Initially FND_PRODUCT_INSTALLATIONS did not have record for custom application. But even after inserting the record with the version info,the log file still shows "UNKNOWN" .
    How to solve this?

    From what I can see, we've added this to the coming 10.1.3.4 patch release:
    Usage:
    java -jar admin_client.jar <connection_uri> <username> <password> -bindWebApp [<switch>]
    - Binds the specified WAR to a specified Web site and/or context root.
    Valid switches are:
    -appName <name> - Required The parent application's name.
    -webModuleName <name> - Required The Web module name.
    -webSiteName <name> - Optional The website name. If omitted,
    defaults to 'default-web-site'.
    -contextRoot <contextRoot> - Optional Context root for the WAR file.
    If omitted, the context root in
    the parent application's
    application.xml is used.
    -shared <true/false> - Optional Allows application to be shared
    between HTTP/HTTPS, defaults to
    'false'.
    -loadOnStartup <true/false> - Optional Allows application to be loaded
    on startup, defaults to 'true'.
    -accessLog <true/false> - Optional Allows application to enable access
    logging, defaults to 'true'.
    I don't know the schedule for 10.1.3.4 is -- the best bet is to place a request with Oracle Support and ask them if they have the information.

  • SCOM2012 - SQL 2012 DB Log File Discovery isssue

    Dear Experts,
    I have some SQL 2012 servers, that has few log files (.LDF) stored in a specific drive. SCOM discovers these files but, has a wrong value in 'Display Name'.
    For example. The log file name on the server is PROD and the file path c:\SQL\PROD.LDF, but in the console it shows name as UAT and file path as c:\SQL\PROD.LDF (file path is correct as expected). It always stays in critical state stating that the log file
    is out of space while it is not the case.
    We even have tried wiping the agent off the server and reinstalling it. But it did not fix the issue. When I remove the agent 'Operations Manager' under event log disappears, but when I reinstall the agent after few days, I see the log created,
    but with older events too dated well prior to the uninstallation.
    And the other thing is, we had this issue while using 2007 R2 and even after switching over to 2012 it continues.
    SCOM 2012 was a fresh setup and was not an upgrade.
    Hope someone could help me out with this.
    Regards,
    Saravanan

    Hi Niki,
    Sorry for the delay in reply.
    I hope the image can explain better. I have that log file on a SQL server, which is being discovered with a wrong File name but with the correct path. The actual file name what I see on the server is exactly the same as it shows in the File path in console.
    But 'File Name' in the console is completely irrelevant. Also, this log file is in critical state for log file full, which is statistically false. There are few other log files on this server, for which we do not have this issue.
    Please let me know if any other information would be required

  • Move IIS Log files to AWS S3 Bucket...

    I'm seeking to automate a process that will copy or move IIS logs to a remote location.
    The following variables must be taken into account =
    1. Copy or Move all IIS logs (xcopy?) to another location. (Each server maintains several websites)
    2. Delete the existing log files up to the current day log file from each website/ server (free up disk space)
    3. I need to retain the last 2 current days of logs per site / per server.
    4.I'd like to be able to schedule this task per server.
    5. This will be performed on several IIS web servers.
    6. The logs will need to move into their respective folders within the remote location or as part of the process create a new folder name, confirm the copy/move of the logs and location.
    7. I don't have to worry about retaining actual website paths from the servers as long as the log files are in the folders names which are labeled by //server name / website (W3SVC1, W3SVC4, W3SVC5, etc...)
    8. End goal - scheduling an automated task that moves these logs into an AWS S3 location (amazon Storage bucket).
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Okay, so what's your question? All I see up there is a list of requirements (note that we don't write
    scripts on demand here).
    My initial recommendation will be to look into using robocopy as a starting point:
    http://ss64.com/nt/robocopy.html
    Don't retire TechNet! -
    (Don't give up yet - 12,830+ strong and growing)

  • What's The Terminal Command To Find Apache Log Files?

    I can't find it anywhere.
    Thank you.

    It looks like either:
    $ grep ErrorLog /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf
    # ErrorLog: The location of the error log file.
    # If you do not specify an ErrorLog directive within a <VirtualHost>
    ErrorLog "/private/var/log/apache2/error_log"
    or
    /usr/sbin/apachectl -V | egrep 'HTTPD_ROOT|ERRORLOG'
    -D HTTPD_ROOT="/usr"
    -D DEFAULTERRORLOG="logs/errorlog"
    Though red_menace probably knows better that I.

    Actually i am understand what u want with these option.
    >> i want to clear my alert log files
    simply move to another name
    like
    mv alert_SID.log alert_SID.bak
    oracle will automatically create new one if it will not able to find old one.
