Log4j for EJB3

How can I configure log4j for ejb3? for example in jsf I create servlet listener initialize logger with some config file (defined in web.xml) and call
it from my beans.
private Logger log = null;
constructor () {
log = Logger.getLogger(MyRegister.class);
}ho can i do this correctly only for EJB3?

I think a better way of logging EJBs is the use of interceptor. This is the approach I use.
Get a regular java class that offers logging services using log4j
create a business interceptor for you EJB business services
add the interceptor annotation to your EJBs with the class name for you interceptor.
I think this approach is better so you don't mingle business code with utility code.
thank God for interceptor.

    Hi
    I am using Log4j for logging in my application . i have problem some areas .
    I want to rotate my file on basis of Time. means if my log file name format is HH:MM then after every minute new log file should be created , i am using Size based rotation its working fine.
    Plz Tell me which propety i used to set my logfile name like DATeFormat
    i tried with this Property but failed
    log4j.appender.R.File=%d{HH:MM}
    Simlarly i dont want to bound BackupSize
    log4j.appender.R.MaxBackupIndex=1000
    i want that suppose after 2 Mb automatically start new file and there is no upper bound on that
    how can i do that or from where i can see all properties of Log4j Thanks

    Thanks
    But in this case i cannot do Size based rotation
    These properties not belong to DialyRolling.. class
    log4j.appender.R.MaxFileSize=1KB
    log4j.appender.R.MaxBackupIndex=1000
    what i want is if file size grow with in one minute i create new file using RollingFileApender and if size doesnt grow in one minute and minute cross then next minute file should be created , how can i acheive both of these

  • Configuring Log4j for a EJB Project.

    Hi,
    I have a weblogic EJB project as a Ear file. The project has no web components (so war file). I want to know which is the ideal way to initialize log4j in this situation.
    I can use listener class thro' weblogic-application.xml. But there is no neat way to passing the log4j.xml thro' parameter from weblogic-applicaiton.xml file.
    If we are using servlet we could use init-parm to passing xml file. I don't want to hard code the xml file location in the listener class.
    What is the best practice to initialize log4j for a EJB project?
    Thanks in advance.
    Anand

    Dan,
    I had a similar problem because I wanted to define my own log4j config regardless of what other portal apps were deployed in the BEA domain or what log4j was the default for the domain. This is what I do:
    1) Put your log4j config file in the WEB-INF classes dir (or I guess it could be in some other place that the CLASSPATH knows of)
    2) Create a servlet that looks like:
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import org.apache.log4j.xml.*;
    public class Log4jInitServlet extends HttpServlet {
    private static final long serialVersionUID = 23456;
    public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
    super.init(config);
    DOMConfigurator.configure(Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader().getResource("myLog4jConfigFile.xml"));
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp) {
    3) Add the servlet definition in the web.xml and add a <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    That should do it.

  • Enabling log4j for  a single class or package

    hi all
    If i use log4j for logging in my classes,
    is there a way for enabling it just for a single class or a packages?
    Considers that i use log4j.properties for configure it
    Regards
    Giovanni

    Two things. Firstly, it's better to use     private static final Object classLock = new Object();because that saves you worrying about whether any other code synchronises on it. Secondly, if you do decide to go for the delegation route then java.lang.reflect.Proxy may be a good way forward.

  • Configuring Log4j for weblogic

    Hi
    can any one tell me how to configure Log4j for weblogic. I have added the log4j jar files to the weblogic classpath but it does not seem to work..
    Thanks and Regards
    Narayan

    You must make a new directory on the same level with applications directory, place "log4j.properties" file in it, include this directory in the "PRE_CLASSPATH" entry in your startup script and that's all.
    Sample line in "startWebLogic.cmd" script
    'set PRE_CLASSPATH=%_LIBJARS%;classes'
    in classes dir you have "log4j.properties"
    Should work,

  • Support for EJB3 with JDK1.4?

    Are there any plans for support of EJB3 with JDK 1.4?
    I see from the release notes for Kodo 4 that it currently requires JDK 1.5
    for EJB3 support. The primary driver here is the use of WebSphere, which
    doesn't support JDK 1.5. [And, NO, Weblogic is NOT an option. :)]
    Thanks,

    No. The spec itself relies heavily on Java 5 features.I understand that EJB3 makes use of JDK 1.5 language features, but that's
    nothing that couldn't be fairly easily worked around. I've got a pretty
    good handle on what's involved - I did write Retroweaver,
    http://retroweaver.sf.net
    Is there any hope of a re-evaluation of this position?We'd love to take an approach like that, but if we did, the entirety of
    Sun's legal team would come after us. Basically, according to the JCP
    rules, we can't ship anything but the official JCP-approved EJB3 jars.
    We certainly can't prevent you from taking that sort of approach in your
    own code base, but from a legal standpoint, we're not allowed to
    officially support anything that's not the official jars.

  • Manual JNDI lookup for EJB3 between different Application Server Instances

    Hi all,
    i have spent quite some time looking into this problem and searching the net but i just can't figure out for the life of me what i am doing wrong so i hope someone here can give me a clue or a good resource where i can look it up myself.
    I am currently doing some interoperability tests concerning EJB calls between Glassfish and Weblogic 10. In my test setup i have an EJB deployed in a jar file on one server and a servlet in a war file deployed on the other. The objective is to try to look up and call the EJB from the servlet. As there seem to be some issues with injection in Weblogic 10 i set that one aside for now (i have opened a case at BEA support for this) but i would like to do a plain old JNDI lookup to obtain the EJB.
    The online tutorials and FAQs i have read so far all state that this can be done the same way as it works for EJB2.x, at least if i understood them correctly. The interessting thing is, when i deploy an EJB2.x bean i can look it up without problems, but when i try to do the same with the EJB3 bean the name cannot be found. On the other hand when listing all contents of the JNDI tree in Glassfish from a stand alone application i can see entries for both EJBs of the type java.naming.Reference (in Weblogic i can also see entries for both, but the ones for EJB3 are of some weird internal weblogic types, which i put down as a weblogic problem for now).
    The lookup code for the servlet running in weblogic looks like this:
    Properties env = new Properties();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "corbaname:iiop:1.2@localhost:3700");
    Object myEjb = new InitialContext(env).lookup("JNDINameDisplayedByContextListing");
    I know that the preferred way would be to have the corbaname put into weblogic.xml/sun-web.xml and just use an InitialContext without an environment to perform the lookup but i wanted to get rid of any additional indirections to pinpoint the source my problem and it should work this way, too. As i said, it works when i target an EJB2.x bean but not with the EJB3 one, so i guess i am doing something wrong there. The jar file contains the interface of the bean annotated with @Remote and the implementation of the interface annotated with @Stateless, i also tried setting the mappedName attribute for the bean and use that name as JNDI name, but that also fails. In addition i added an ejb-jar.xml to the jars META-INF containing the following:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <ejb-jar xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
         xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
         xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee
    http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/ejb-jar_3_0.xsd"
         version="3.0">
         <enterprise-beans>
              <session>
                   <ejb-name>SecurityTest3EJB</ejb-name>
                   <ejb-class>
                        testcase.ejb.SecurityTestBean
                   </ejb-class>
                   <session-type>Stateless</session-type>
                   <transaction-type>Container</transaction-type>
    </session>
    </enterprise-beans>
    But the ejb-name specified there does not show up in a context listing, so i would guess that means the file is ignored or only accessible from within the same application server (note, there is no indication of any problems in the Glassfish log when deploying the jar file).
    This might be just a stupid mistake by me, but i just can't figure it out at the moment, so any advice will be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks, Chris

    I think i stumbled across something now. From some posts it seems to me that the EJB3 spec does not require EJBs to be accessible from a remote location, since this can be achieved by using the @RemoteHome annotation and performing a EJB2.x compliant look up. Is that correct?

    What should i change to make it work with the MSSQLServer 2000 database?
    Could anyone help me with this problem?
    Thanx!!

    Hi,
    I don't know the example but maybe I can give you some hints though. Your stacktrace doesn't look to be related to a datasource issue. So I see two questions:
    1) What's about the error?
    2) How to change the datasource from Oracle to MS SQLServer 2000?
    Hope you didn't start at the end of the tutorial! ;-)
    1)
    The client tries to connect to the RMI-port of an OC4J instance to do some JNDI lookups, but cannot connect to the server socket.
    Some questions:
    Is your OC4J instance up and running BEFORE you start the client?
    If you answer with yes:
    Which port does the RMI server listen on? (netstat -a)
    Is this port the same the client tries to use?
    If you answer with yes:
    Do you connect locally or via a network (do you use a firewall)?
    2) The steps should include:
    a) Create the database schema in SQLServer (this might include a conversion of ORACLE specific SQL to SQLServer specific syntax, Sequences and stuff like that)
    b) Add the correct JDBC.Driver to your project
    c) Create and test the datasource (try to use JDev)
    d) Make sure that the EJB3 persistence implementation of OC4J (toplink) does support all necessary features of the MS Database. For example I'm not sure if native db sequences are supported for other RDBMS than Oracle. Don't know if you need them for your example
    In theory this should all be quite simple and you don't have to write db specific code. ;-)
    Hope this helps. If not, please ask more specifically!
    Regards,
    Eric

  • JNDI Lookup for EJB3 (Bean to Bean)

    Hi Forum,
    i've search the whole internet and two books but I could not find an answer that pleased me.
    I want to get a reference to an EJB3 by JNDI Lookup. With container managed dependency injection everything works fine but I have to do a little more generic way, thats why I want to work with JNDI Lookup.
    I have the following situation:
    At first I have a stateless bean
    @Local
    public interface Job {
         * run the job
         * @return true if the job executed without errors
        public boolean run(SchedulerConfig schedulerConfig ,JobContext context);
    @Local
    public interface AConcreteJobLocal extends Job {
    //no more declarations
    @Stateless
    @TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.NOT_SUPPORTED)
    public class AConcreteJobBean implements AConcreteJobLocal {
    //implemented methods goes here | removed for better overview in the post
    } This is a typical declaration for a bunch of jobs I have. Every concrete job has it's own bean if it necessary in some way for you to know.
    So now I wanted to write a bean which returns me an bean instance via a JNDI lookup
    @Stateless
    public class JobJNDILookupBean implements JobJNDILookupLocal {
        Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(JobJNDILookupBean.class.getName());
        public Job getJobBeanFromJNDIName(String jndiName) {
            Job job = null;

            } catch (IllegalArgumentException ex) {
                logger.log(Level.SEVERE, "Bean not found", ex);
            return job;
    }When I call this method I always get a NameNotFoundException

    }I hope you understand my question and more than this I hope some has the answer.

    Hi Zsom,

    One thing you need to keep in mind is that beans aren't instantiated every time you make a call to your EJB. You're right! But because the fact the beans are all stateless it doesn't matter. I don't want to get a new EJB at a lookup. If I get a reference to a bean which was used a million times before it is absolutely ok
    Zsom wrote:
    You might be gaining some time because the container can create new beans more quickly, but you are also looking up the beans before each call, which in the long run will be even more expensive.Mhm, I don't know if I understand you. Maybe I explain my process a little bit. I have a lot of different jobs in my application (JobDoThis, JobDoThat, JobFoo, JobBar). Every job has a own bean which keeps the business logic. Furthermore I have an job engine which is able to execute jobs which are configured to run and this engine can solve some dependencies (If JobFoo fails don't execute JobBar , and so on). When I build my engine I want to get a reference to a jobBean by jndi lookup which keeps the business logic and then call some method on it. This means that the lookup will only be called when I build a new engine. And because this doesn't happen so often performance is not so important. Furthermore if all jobs all configured to run the application needs sometimes more than 12 hours (depended from the amount of data) for one run (Start to End -> the application has a little script character), that's why performance as I said already is not so important.
    Zsom wrote:
    But it would be worth making some test, because to me it seems a bit like bad design.Yes it could be, but this was my first thought to instantiate a bean (or get a reference to an existing one) dynamically. I don't like this hard coded dependency injection. I mean it's great If you know at compiletime which beans you need. But because we don't know which beans we need it's a big overhead to inject them all by container and then use only 40 percent of the injected bean because for example only 40 of 100 jobs shall run.
    If there is another approach to get a reference dynamically which is better than this then I will try, no problem, but unfortunally I don't see another.

  • Log4j for individual classes

    Hi,
    I defined a log4j.properties file in my class directory:
    log4j.defaultInitOverride=false
    log4j.rootLogger=DEBUG, R, S
    log4j.appender.R=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender
    log4j.appender.R.File=R.log
    log4j.appender.R.MaxFileSize=100KB
    log4j.appender.R.MaxBackupIndex=0
    log4j.appender.R.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
    log4j.appender.R.layout.ConversionPattern=%p %t %c - %m%n
    log4j.appender.S=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender
    log4j.appender.S.File=S.log
    log4j.appender.S.MaxFileSize=100KB
    log4j.appender.S.MaxBackupIndex=0
    log4j.appender.S.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
    log4j.appender.S.layout.ConversionPattern=%p %t %c - %m%n
    Then I used the Logger in loginAction.java:
    private Logger logger = Logger.getLogger("R");
    logger.setAdditivity(false);
    logger.info("LoginAction");
    and in OracleDAOFactory.java:
    private Logger logger = Logger.getLogger("S");
    logger.setAdditivity(false);
    logger.info("Connected to DB from customer DAO");
    what I want to achieve is to record the information for loginAction in R.log and record the information for OracleDAOFactory in S.log. But do NOT accumulate loginAction's information into OracleDAOFactory, and vice versa.
    The above codes work properly if I remove the line "logger.setAdditivity(false);". The result is both log files have the contents. But if I add the line "logger.setAdditivity(false);", I get the following error message:
    log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (S).
    log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
    What is wrong with my above coding?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Separate logging with log4j for web applications deployed on one server

    I have been trying to get web applications to write to separate log files.
    Log4j.jar is loaded through classpath once during weblogic startup. In each web application, I have Log4j.xml or Log4j.properties configuration files under WEB-INF folder. I hava java class in the application extending HttpServlet and loads the log4j.xml file, In web.xml they have load-on-startup set to 1. Two java class files both extending write the log to the specified log file but other java class files are not logging information, some implement filter, some are action classes (Struts 1.2.9). If the java class has a static method then the log from the method is being written but the log from instance methods is not being written. I tried declaring the variable both as static and non-static
    private Logger log = Logger.getLogger(LoginFilter.class);
    What could be causing some java class files not to log?
    Another issue, For Log4j.xml, Doctype as SYSTEM property set to lookup Log4j.dtd, weblogic complains as Log4j.dtd file not found, tried adding this file in WEB-INF folder, same location as LOg4j.xml and WEB-INF/lib folder and even in classpath, weblogic still complains of log4j.dtd file being not found. For now, I removed SYSTEM entry but need to put it back for parser to validate xml file.
    I am using WLS 8.1.6, struts 1.2.9 and Log4j 1.2.8 versions.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Extending Log4j for mulitple log files

    Hi,
    I need to use Log4j logging utilities and log to different files depending on some set parameters. In a simplistic example, based on a passed parameter, the EJB must log to different files for different invokeations of the same method.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Create double categories for the same class. category1.debug("Logging to one file");
    if(shouldIUseTheOtherCategoryToo == true){

  • Axis2  1.4 client Generation for EJB3 service - RPC Encoded

    I am trying to create a Webservice client in eclipse and i am using AXIS2(1.4) environment but when i try wsdl to java, i get the following exception.
    Exception occurred while code generation for WSDL : org.apache.axis2.AxisFault: Encoded use is not supported
    My WSDL has the following encoding. I couldn't understand why is this not supported. As i have used this encoding because i was getting the Circular reference serializing problem.
