Logging/Tracing on Netweaver Studio console

Hello All,
I am new to SAP Netweaver. I have worked on Java before and have used log4j Apache logging API for logging.
I am able to see the logs on console and also redirect it to a file depending on the appender i have configured.
My question here is, in Netweaver domian, how do i check logs on my studio console.
There is an option in Visual Admin where i can configure in Log Configurator --> advanced mode
- log destination where i can select the Console Log.
Even after selecting this and having a restart of application on the J2EE engine, i am not able to see any logs on console.
All logs/traces are appended to defaultTrc.
Please help me with this. Could you please provide me a flow as to how can i use Logging/Tracing in and out?

Hi Nimbuskudva,
You can implement a logger in your webdynpro java application in NWDS and you can see the logs by going to the netweaver administration console of the application.
The url for going to admin console would be http://<host>:<port>/nwa > you chold have admin priviledge to access this > login into it > go to Monitoring > Log and Traces > select default trace from the Show dropdown and you would be able to see the log.
You need to keep the log level of the server to debug. This needs to be done by Basis.

Maybe when you are on netweaver studio, the instance number passed is the java one instead of the abap instance one :

Error while working in NetWeaver studio

Hi all,
While working in NetWeaver studio i am getting the following error.
"A SWT error has occured"
It is recommended to exit the workbench
Subsequent errors may happen and may terminate the workbench with out warning
See error log for more details
Exit Workspace "
Followed by Yes and No buttons
So the workbench is getting closed and interrupting my work.
Can anyone plz help me out

Hi Padma,
There is one folder named .metadata it is in uour workspace.
1. Close your NWDS.
2. copy .metadata folder from your workspace to somewhere else.
3. delete .metadata folder from your workspace.
4. start your NWDS.
this process will start configuring your NWDS from initial level.

do you have any snippet for turning on/off logging/tracing for proxy services using WLST or JMX ?
I've seen a previous thread about Enable/Disable Proxy Service using JMX and I'm looking for something similar.

Unable to access Studio console

Hi,
I have installed Essbase 11.1.1.3 in Solaris server.
When i access Studio console from client machine, i am getting the below error.
User 'admin' does not have any privileges in the system. Please assign user privileges in administration console.
Please help me on this.

I too have the same issue. I get a error saying check for user admin privileges. My Shared services,EAS,EIS all work fine. But not able to connect to essbase studio.
What do you mean by provisioning. I logged into shared services and checked for admin roles. Added all roles that were under Essbase Studio. And still it doesnt work.
Please let me know as to how I can fix this issue

Unable to deploy from Netweaver studio after changing hostname

Hi All,
After following the SAP note 757692 to change the hostname for J2EE Engine 6.40, we are getting error message " Error: There is no control instance running in the cluster" in the SDM log when trying to deploy an app from netweaver studio. We have change the setting in netweaver studior to point to the new server etc ...
1. We noticed that in the SDM log, it seem to still looking at the old hostname (clttst1) instead of the new host name (apple)
2. We have to change the hostname because of the cluster environment.
3. I checked the trace file dev_ms and found the following messge " MsHttpInit: full qualified hostname = clttst1.rta.nsw.gov.au" , i.e. still pointing back to the old hostname.
I have made all the neccessary changes base on the SAP note 757692, i.e. message server name etc ...
Any advices / help are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help, I can connect to SDMserver using RemoteGui fine, the default hostname in the login screen is my "new" hostname.
But when the developer try to deploy the apps from Netweaver studio, getting error and the SDM log indicating that it is still using the old hostname.

The error message in the SDM log as follow :

Error in access with Essbase Studio Console

We get error to connect with Essbase Studio Console.

During the installation of Essbase Studio only, ess_es_server.jar and ess_japi.jar are missing. If you install both Essbase and Studio, they are not missing.
This is due to unpublished bug 14232814 - DURING THE INSTALLATION ONLY STUDIO SOME .JAR FILES NOT INSTALLED
Try the following:
Stop Essbase Studio
copy files into EPMSystem11R1\common\EssbaseJavaAPI\11.1.2.0\lib
ess_es_server.jar
ess_japi.jar
If folder does not exist create it.
1. Stop essbase Studio.
2. Drop tables from relational database
3. Recreate tables.
4. Start Essbase Studio.
Scripts for dropping & recreating catalog located under
oracle\middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\EssbaseStudio\Server\database\common\db_name

Error in project creation using Netweaver studio

Hi all,
I am trying to create a new Composite Application Services project using Netweaver studio 7.011. When it came to the final step of the Project creation wizard, an error message pop-up saying "Problem when creating project".
I have tried the methods posted in the forums, but its doesn't work for me.

HTML page generated by Netweaver studio is very big

Hi,
Is there any way to make the generated HTML pages (when developing a web dynpro application from Netweaver studio) smaller in size ?
It appears to be big even for a very simple hello world page.

I want to import an web dynpro application, esstratre, to my netweaver studio. The source can be found in my WAS j2ee server, there are a zip file. But the zip file is not a valid netweaver studio project and can't import to netweaver studio directly, how can i import the source to my IDE?

Debug IPC using NetWeaver Studio

Hello,
Does anybody know how can I debug my local IPC using NetWeaver studio? I tried to launch dispatcher.bat or server.bat from NetWeaver but gives out the error.
I would really appreciate any inputs.

Hi, what exactly do you want to do ? I suppose that your IPC application is not meant to be run locally, so if you want to do this, you will need to create a new Java Class that can be run locally (so it needs to be a class that have the "public static void main(String[] args)" method in it). For more info, see Sun web site.
Then you should be able to call the different methods of the IPC application.
And to debug, you need to go to the Debug perspective, and create a new debug session for your application and place some breakpoint where needed.

SSL error logging into Financial Reporting Studio

We are using Financial Reporting 11.1.2.1, patch 120. We terminate SSL at a load-balancing appliance, therefore, none of the Hyperion services have SSL enabled.
Users were able to log into Financial Reporting Studio (FRS) using https://servername:port successfully until we installed a new digital certificate in the virtual IP on the load-balancing appliance. Now when the users try to log into FRS, a SSL handshake error is written to the client log file. See below for full error.
We have restarted all Hyperion services and verified that browser access to the EPM environment is working using https. We also tried uninstalling the FRS client and reinstalling, but get the same error.
The original digital certificate was not imported on the Hyperion servers or client machines. The new digital certificate has not been imported either.
Oracle Support said that we need to create a keystore file on each client machine and import the new digital certificate.
Wondering if anyone else has run into this issue or can explain why we would need to import the new cert on each client, when we never had to import the original cert on the client?
We also verified that if we revert back to the original cert on the load-balancer, the users can log into FRS.

fixed by creating local keystore on each client machine, importing the certificate into the keystore and adding the following registry entry on each client machine:
-Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore=full path to keystore file.
registry entry added to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Reports\HReports\JVM
still no answer from Oracle Support as to why it was necessary to do this for the new certificate when we did not have to do this for the original certificate.

since the cubes were not built through Essbase studio, Oracle did not retrofit them into studio for the most part. If you look at the flat files on your studio server in \hyperion\products\Essbase\Essbasestudio\server\datafiles\tbcSamples you will see the files that you could use to recreate sample Basic.The SQL files that John talks about allow you to do the same thing from relational tables and do a drill thru report
