Login Error SQL Plus in Oracle9i

I installed completely Oracle9i on my system. I have to make databases, make forms and generate reports for my scool project. I cannot login to sql Plus using scott tiger . I think the problem is with HOST STRING. Can anyone help please.
Thank you
Sharif Vohra

it would help if you post the error message(s), if any, that you are receiving while connecting.
Did you install the database part (or the client tools only), and did you also create a
starter (or customized) database while installing Oracle?

  • Is there some time setting in sql*plus or Oracle9i

    Hi guys,
I just run the following simple query in sql*plus in oracle 9i:
    select * from pers ;
The table is around 190k rows. But it always stops running after 28-30minutes. No error message displayed and the whole sql*plus just hang on there.... The only thing I can do is to restart the sql*plus.
I got this problem when I run some other query, so I use this simple query just to test if it will stop after running 30m. Now it does. I'm thinking there is some setting in sql*plus or ORACL9i I need to do. Could someone help me to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Data Mover login error (SQL 2008R2 as backend DB)

    Hi,
This question was asked in this thread -> Continued Discussion - Steps to Upgrade PT8.49 to 8.50 Manually
The difference between problem in that thread and mine is that I have WIN08R2 SQL08R2 Peopletools9.52 and Peoplesoft HRMS 9.0 installed. I was on the steps of creating the databases manually with the sql scripts and that was also preformed.
I also have different ConnectID: people and AccessID: peoplesa with respective passwords. I try login in with the AccessID and I get the below error.
File: SQL Access ManagerSQL error. Stmt #: 2 Error Position: 0 Return: 8077 - Invalid SNAC client version (minimum is 10.00.1763) (SQLSTATE PS077)
    Any suggestions?
    -Vishal

    Hi there,
I upgraded the SNAC client to 1033\x64\sqlncli.msi from the Microsoft and still I get the same Login error in the DataMover.
I checked the registry location --> HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0\Current Version = 10.51.2500.0
The Data Mover login error says that it requires minimum is 10.00.1763 so i guess the one I have should work fine?
    Any suggestions?

  • Oracle10g Developer Suite - Application Development - SQL Plus Login Info

I have installed Oracle10g Developer Suite and when I am trying to login into the sql*plus environment the username scott with the passcode tiger is not working. I have Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 as the database.
Can anyone help me in setting up the username and password to login into Sql*plus Release 10.1.0.4.2

It sounds like you may be new to Oracle and its products. I would recommend doing some reading.
Oracle 9.2 Net Services Admin Guide
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/network.920/a96580/toc.htm
    Oracle Developer Suite Installation Guide
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25016_06/doc/dl/core/B16012_03/toc.htm
You create the "login" information when you install the database. If you are not the person who performed the installation, you will need to contact them or install it again. Also, be aware that the SCOTT schema is disabled by default in newer database versions for security reasons.
The tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files can be found in the ORACLE_HOME\network\admin directory. This is the same for all Oracle products that use Sql-Net for database connections. You can also use the TNS_ADMIN environment variable to point to a pre-existing tnsnames.ora file (see previously mentioned documents).
The tnsnames.ora entry will be unique to your database and its listener however here is an example:
    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = someServer.com)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)
    )

  • Logging into ORACLE 9I using SQL*PLUS.TNS Error

I have installed Oracle 9i for windows and am trying to login using SQL*PLUS
    user: system
    pwd: manager
    Host String: BHURU
It says TNS could resolve service name.
I have all the services running in the admin monitor.
Am I missing something? Please advise.

Can you post your tnsnames.ora file contents and listener.ora contents here?
There may be tons of things wrong with the error actually,
ORA-12154:     TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
Cause:     A connection to a database or other service was requested using a connect identifier, and the connect identifier specified could not be resolved into a connect descriptor using one of the naming methods configured. For example, if the type of connect identifier used was a net service name then the net service name could not be found in a naming method repository, or the repository could not be located or reached.
    Action:
    - If you are using local naming (TNSNAMES.ORA file):
    - Make sure that "TNSNAMES" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA)
    - Verify that a TNSNAMES.ORA file exists and is in the proper directory and is accessible.
    - Check that the net service name used as the connect identifier exists in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
    - Make sure there are no syntax errors anywhere in the TNSNAMES.ORA file. Look for unmatched parentheses or stray characters. Errors in a TNSNAMES.ORA file may make it unusable.
    - If you are using directory naming:
    - Verify that "LDAP" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA).
    - Verify that the LDAP directory server is up and that it is accessible.
    - Verify that the net service name or database name used as the connect identifier is configured in the directory.
    - Verify that the default context being used is correct by specifying a fully qualified net service name or a full LDAP DN as the connect identifier
    - If you are using easy connect naming:
    - Verify that "EZCONNECT" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA).
    - Make sure the host, port and service name specified are correct.
    - Try enclosing the connect identifier in quote marks. See the Oracle Net Services Administrators Guide or the Oracle operating system specific guide for more information on naming.

  • How to login in Oracle 10g SQL Plus

I just installed Oracle 10g. I tried to login to SQL Plus by using scott and tiger to be user name and password, but it did not work. What can I do about it?
Please help and thanks in advance!!!

You have to configure a Net service name, and connect as
    sqlplus scott/tiger@<service_name>
You can use the Net Configuration Assistant to do that. This is in the Oracle menu on Windows systems. On Unix/Linux you can use the netca utility.
If you are working locally (on the server), you can also set the ORACLE_SID environment variable :
    Windows : set ORACLE_SID=<your_sid>
    Unix/Linux : ORACLE_SID=<your_sid>; export ORACLE_SID
    then connect as
    sqlplus scott/tiger

  • Need help in sql plus

i install in my computer the oracle9i
my problem is that : i can login to sql plus
althoge i was tring all the passwords that i know
    scott/tiger
    sys/change_on_install
system/manager and the result is allways the same
    ora-12560 error
how can i solve that problem?
did i missed somthing during the installation?

    Thank you to EVERYONE!!
I have been searching every possible forum to find out how to install/run SQL *Plus on a home computer without a server/network to work within.  As most just learning, I could not figure out how to get past the SQL Plus Username/Password/Host String logon.
After much trial and error, I got through and I hope this helps a lot of people just starting out.
I used 'SYSTEM' as my username and my password created on install.
When installing I created a database and fixed the password so my default password was the password I created on install.
As long as I had those two fields filled in, I could leave the Host String blank and I could still get into the SQL Plus workspace.
Since I also created a database on install, I found that I could also use the name I gave the installed database (I didn't leave the default database name so I do not remember what the default name was, but I think the default password was 'manager' for those who were not tempted to change it).
Worst case scenario if you forgot your database name given during install, you can do a search for all of your .ora files (usually in the drive you installed Oracle on). Open the tnsnames.ora file in Notepad and you can see which database names are available on your system. The path to my file was:
    D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
You want the SERVICE_NAME = 'databasename'
I hope this reduced someone's stress...and thanks for all the helpful hints on these threads...they led me to the final outcome!!
In the end, I tried a lot of other combinations for the username/host strings with plenty of errors. You would think this information would be on page one of every Oracle install!! Or maybe it is and I am just a bit slow. : )
Thanks again to all that posted with this initial question (years ago)...

  • Logging in on SQL Plus

I have yet been able to log in to SQL Plus. I just installed 8i Personal. I created a DB called "SCOTTSDB". After creating it, I wanted to login to SQL Plus. I tried user:system password:manager, user:internal password:oracle, and user:sys password:change_on_install. I just started an Oracle class at the university and wanted to run it at home for more practice. The login that I use at school is user:system password:manager. The host string is the name of the database right? For instance the name of the database that I created is like I said earlier "SCOTTSDB". Is that what I put in the host field? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. scott

Hi I want to know, if Oracle 8i server can be installed in Win
98 properly? I tried and it got installed. But, I could not
connect to it from Oracle client. It is giving error ORA-
12541:TNS: no listener . How to start a listener in Win 98? Is
it possible or Oracle 8i server has to be installed in NT/
2000 ? I want to use the client and server in a single machine,
thats why I do not want to unistall my OS. Can u suggest
    anything?

  • How to install SQL*Plus help facilities and demos.

    Hi, everyone
It appears error message say "failure to login" during SQL*Plus
part of the Oracle8 full installation. I knew that system want
to install SQL*Plus help and demos through logining one of
dba account(maybe system user account). However, due to
password's reason, can not log in SQL*Plus, so installer can't
execute named pupbld.sql script, result in SQL*Plus help and
    demos can not be installed.
Now, I am intend to install these stuff lonely.
Could anyone help me? thank a lot.

    Hi,
The pupbld.sql isn't the correct script to create the help
facility, it just creates product and user profile tables.
The help script is at $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/help (run as
    system)
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/help
    sqlplus system/<password> @helptbl
    sqlldr system/<password> control=plushelp.ctl
    sqlldr system/<password> control=plshelp.ctl
    sqlldr system/<password> control=sqlhelp.ctl
    sqlplus system/<password> @helpindx
I think it is necessary to run the pupbld.sql script, without
this script everyone who logins in oracle with sqlplus will see
an error message, but... Run the script again:
    $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/pupbld.sql
    Best regards,
    Ari

  • DB Login error (ora - 03113 end of file on communication channel)

I'm using oracle 9i on windows xp. Whaen try to login thro sql plus it gives subject error. When try to login from Enterprise Manager no errors are giving but cannot access.
Using sqlplus within same machine where DB is installed. (no remote access).
What could be the reason/ As I understood this is most common error that oracle has.
In addition can anybody explain what are the services that are using when connect to the db. (like listener...)
    Thanks

    Hey Sharab,
If you want to connect to OEM(Oracle Enterprise Manager) then first of all you have to configure it. You can find the Enterprise manager Configuration assistant form Configuration menu. First you configure it and then only you can access the database thorough OEM.
Just go through this url. You will know the steps to configure the OEM... Do it accrodingly...
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B11000_02/apbinsta.htm
If there is any prblem in accessing this website, then let me know, i will write the steps completely.
Please follow the steps given below to enjoy ur OEM jobs.....otherwise, it will not allow you to do all the activities inside the OEM.
Windows systems require that you set the correct credentials for the Jobs system to work properly in Enterprise Manager. By default, the Management Agent service is installed as a LocalSystem user. When submitting jobs, such as stopping or starting the database, the user submitting the job must have the Log on as a batch job privilege enabled.
Perform the following steps to establish that privilege for any operating system user who needs to submit an Enterprise Manager job.
Start the Local Security Policy tool:
Windows 2003: From the Start menu, select Administrative Tools, then Local Security Policy.
Windows XP: From the Start menu, select Control Panel, Administrative Tools, then Local Security Policy.
Under the Security Settings list, expand the list to Local Policies.
Under Local Policies, double-click User Rights Assignment.
Under Policy, search for the Log on as a batch job policy.
    Thanks and Regards,
    MSORA
