LOL Bug

Icons disappearing, icons multiplying, invisible folders... very funny!
(click the thumbnails for a 1:1 view)
*To reproduce:* scroll to the right-most page of your springboard. Click the home button (which causes it to auto-scroll to the first page after a short delay) and just shortly after it starts scrolling, put your finger down on the display, which stops the scrolling. Don't move your finger on the screen, but wait for a short moment. If the timing was right (and the position of your finger; it should be roughly over an icon), you'll go into rearranging mode... +with some funny quirks!+
*Report back if you succeed.*
P.S. In the first screenshot there is a folder called "Toys" with some Apps in it. It actually disappeared from the springboard shortly after I took the screenshot. However, it's not completely gone. In iTunes you can see that the Apps are still there, on a "hidden" page.

  • DW CS4 Bug - Adobe denies it - LOL

    I can't wait for someone else to confirm this...
    If you have 5 minutes, open up DW CS4, open a blank page and use ASP with VBSCRIPT (this is Classic ASP)....save the page on a server that supports ASP. Do INSERT, MEDIA, FLV....now pick any ol' FLV file....
    It inserts the FLV file, and of course you have to upload the dependant files (progessive player, skin file, etc)....
    HOWEVER, your flv file WILL NOT PLAY IN ASP PAGES (especially with IE 8...or 7 for that matter)! If you do the same process with an HTM or HTML file, it plays fine. You'll notice a huge difference in the code that it inserts, depending on the file type (ASP or HTM).
    Now, do it in CS3, and FLV files work fine on ASP pages, no matter the browser version.
    I called Adobe to report this, and 1) the guy spoke such broken english I had to repeat myself about 5 times for him to understand, and 2) he insisted this was a Microsoft bug, and instructed me to call Microsoft Tech Support....
    If this were a MS problem, it wouldn't work in CS3 either....the fact that it works in CS3, and not in CS4 indicates to me the inserted code is different, and has a flaw somewhere....
    Does anyone have time to verify my findings? Please reply with your results....again, make sure to insert an FLV file into an ASP page....
    Thanks for anyone's help....maybe if enough people verify this, Adobe will listen.
    Thanks!

    I confirm that this is a bug. I am struggling with the same issue. If it works in CS3 does anyone have the code to embed flv files in asp?
    The code that I am using in CS4 is

  • Another n00b bug lol Boolean prob this time.

    Hey,
    Got another problem. :(
    Ok, the program ask's the user to input a letter from a-e. I decided to create a boolean (progok) to test wether they had entered a letter in this range correctly. I put in a do while (progok = false) loop so that it would keep on asking the user for the letter until they correctly chose a letter in the range from a-e.
    Somethings gone wrong in my logic as the programs carries on looping even if the a letter is correctly entered from that range.
    Here's the code.
    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
    public class LetterProgram2 {
    public static void main (String args[]) {
       String pickALet;
       String output;
       char letter;
       int guess;
       int a;
       a=0;
       boolean progok = (a>0 && a<6);
       do{
       pickALet = JOptionPane.showInputDialog ("please enter a lower case letter from (a to e)");
       output = "you selected a letter " + pickALet;
       letter = pickALet.charAt(0);
       switch (letter) {
       case 'a':
       a = 1;
       output = "you entered an a";
       break;
       case 'b':
       a = 2;
       output = "you entered a b";
       break;
       case 'c':
       a = 3;
       output = "you entered a c";
       break;
       case 'd':
       a = 4;
       output = "you entered a d";
       break;
       case 'e':
       a = 5;
       output = "you entered an e";
       break;
       default:
       output = "i did not recognise your entry";
       break;
       JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, output, "your letter", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
       }while (progok == false);
       guess =(int)(Math.random()*5 +1 ) ;
       System.out.println(guess);
       if (guess==a)
          System.out.println("The computer guessed the correct letter");
       else
          System.out.println("The computer guessed the letter incorrectly");
       System.exit(0);
       }Any ideas?
    Thanks

    First of all, you never set progok inside your loop. Secondly, using booleans as control varaibles is to be avoided. You don't need one here.

  • Iphone 6 tells me that "Item not available" in my country UK, when i click on the itunes store icon for the app to open the music, movies or tv shows section of the app. is this a bug?

    I am based in the UK and have just got a new iphone 6, everything works well except when i try to turn on the itunes store app -  i can do a search and buy music etc that way, within the app, however, if i go to Music, Movies or the TV shows section within the Store app, i get a message come up saying "Item Not Available" - This item you've requested is not currently available in the UK Store, but it is available in the US store. Tap Change Store to view this item".   I therefore cannot browse the music, movies or tv shows sections at all, nothing shows up except that message.  All my previous itunes purchases have downloaded ok, and i can access them. My apple ID works fine and restrictions on the iphone are turned OFF. The App Store app works normally. Connection etc is all fine and I can access itunes  in the normal way on my ipad and laptop, so this is just an iphone problem. Any ideas? is this a bug? I cant find anyone else with exactly the same problem. By the way, the same message comes up when i click on the red Music icon, on the iphone (situated next to the Safari icon) and then go to the "Store" via that app.  my playlists are in tact, but as soon as i click that Store button, I am told that the Item is unavailable - not that i have chosen any Item lol, I just want to access the store in the normal way. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you can give

    It is working now. I no longer get the message about the item not being available in the US and I can access the store.

    Oh, and you can click on the music icon in the top left of itunes, then the playlists tab in the middle to re-eanble the sidebar sort of. Then if you scroll to the top of the sidebar you should see 'devices'. Drag and drop the same way as before...
    Hope that helps.

  • Apparent kompare bug(s)

    I apologise in advance for the length of this 1st-Arch-post-in-years. I value context more than brevity, I guess. Hopefully this is the longest post I'll throw at Arch for a long, long time.
    I looked around (quite) a bit before filing this post.  I've used Arch off-n-on since 0.4, know the Arch site, the basics about Arch, and most of the "gotcha's" farly well - but I'm no sysop, either.
    I have a project I've been needing and meaning to work on for years (and which continues to compound itself while I don't); a huge set of backups on CD/DVD of all my data (my *life*, really) for well over a decade - letters, graphics, email, the first 40 pages of my book, you name it. Over the years this 'little' library has grown to over 10 GB compressed (30,000 files, *most* of them ARCHIVES). My guess is that 2-4 GB (compressed) of the data is important, some very much so.
    My archive collection consists of many recursed archives themselves, and they're in about 8 or 10 different formats, to boot (even *.ice, LMAO). Many are further embedded several levels into the main archives (yes, I know that's a bad idea, but I didn't know that when I created them...). I BADLY need to unpack all this stuff, find and toss the duplicates, and truly organise (and efficiently backup) the remainder. This effort will obviously require a lot of automation (or else my heirs will either do it, or not).
    I'd found a couple of useful tools in the Windows world years ago, but I don't buy software and the key piece of my suite was shareware that disabled itself after 30 days - not nearly enough time to plow through this boatload of bits.
    A few months back I built a system with an Athlon XP 3500+ on an Asus A8N-E mobo w/512MB and 120 GB and 250 GB HD's. I'm hoping to go the RAID route soon - Linux software RAID, in fact. The 250 GB HD is running off an add-in PCI ATA card; both HD's have a UDMA channel all to themselves. The machine's got 4 extra fans, a nicely oversized 485W P/S, and the on-board sensors consistently show it running cool. I'm quite sure this isn't a H/W problem (I'm having no others; I built it myself...). This machine has been absolutely rock-solid in every other regard. I LOVE the system; now if I can simply use it for this one basically administrative project.
    I finally have both the speed and the space required to tackle this now-monster project. When I "came home" to Arch a few months ago, I wanted to try several WMs/DMs; GNOME, KDE, E17, fluxbox and ratpoison (at least) are all loaded on my system, and I've booted most at least once. I'd assumed I'd have a LOT of options as to the tools to use.
    I've been man-paging and googling and pacman -Q'ing (followed by more googling) for a couple of weeks through the course of my testing thus far, while trying various wrappers in various WMs. My concluson: Houston, we have a problem! <S>Maybe</S> Several.
    In the past I've been partial to KDE (that's quickly changing), and it's what I started with this time around. As such, kompare seemed the obvious route to go, and had MOST (NOT all) of the functionality I needed (I also very much like it's GUI). Of course, kompare is simply a wrapper for diff (several diff variants, in fact, potentially). It's possible that diff is the problem. Hopefully further testing (and/or comments here) will make that determination more clearly.
    Subsequent googling has revealed that the diff version shipped with Arch likely hasn't been completely functional at all levels in almost *5 YEARS* now. Diff's codefile timestamp is Sept. 3, *2002*! Version 2.8.1 (3.4 is current - just like *kompare*'s current version is 3.4). Additionally, directly below diff in that listing is diff3. Diff's codefile size is about 60K; diff3's is about 20K. *However*, they both have the same timestamp AND version # !!!
    A *completely cosmetic* bug (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138347) is fairly clearly the same bug as (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdesdk/+bug/45466 - 3-1/2 *YEARS* earlier!), and seemingly a trivial patch for a competent maintainer to create, at that. I've verified (w/o even trying) that this bug is resident in my system as we speak. Of course it is - the version of diff Arch is currently shipping was compiled almost a YEAR before the FIRST of the 2 bug reports above were filed! My Arch desktop O/S was installed less than a month ago using the 0.7.2 base ISO (kompare's timestamp is Jan. 20, 2007; version 3.4 - and it's a wrapper for a piece of code last compiled in 2002? What, the 2.0 kernel?). I've aggressively maintained my system current since my very recent install. See how well kompare/diff work on YOUR system...
    Indeed, from the kompare bug page, it's hard to believe it's EVER been stable - or even used (see http://bugs.kde.org/simple_search.cgi?i … &offset=20 and just keep on clicking "View More Results" - or get yourself an energiser bunny to do it for you, maybe).
    I copied the backups from CD's/DVD's to a clean, freshly-showered 64 GB (62.8, actually) ext3 partition (4K blocksize, defaults otherwise, journal included). I set up a top-level directory in this partition with 15 directories beneath it, one for each of my backup discs (whose contents range in size from 50 MB to 4.36 GB). I copied one archive to each directory, then unpacked them one at a time from the command line, removing the archive copy as I went. I ended up with about 15 GB of active data (25%).
    I first configured kompare to use diff (w/no C/L options) running under KDE. As kdiff3 is kompare's preference, however, why is kdiff3 not already in the repos?
    I'd not used it before, so I wasn't familiar with kompare's UI. I started out working with a few smaller subsets of the data I knew were near-perfect copies of each other and that wouldn't overload the filesystem. It seemed to act strangely; while I expected it to be well-optimised, both HD activity and CPU utilisation seemed extremely low for extended periods (and note my setup doesn't allow for a HDD LED for the HD on the controller card, where ALL the disk activity is going on).
    After 3 runs in a row w/o a single errant file being found, I made a 2-byte mod to a small, non-critical text file that was part of the archive I was currently komparing, rebooting to make DAMNED sure cache was cleared, and reran kompare; identical results. The change STILL wasn't detected (the changed file still showed as being an exact copy of the original). The output I was getting was quite weird: usually, the 'kompare' would run at what seemed a rational speed; after a while a response screen would then open, *completely* devoid of data or messages. Immediately after that an odd dialogue box popped up; the title bar said "Error!", but the *message* was, basically, "No Duplicates Encountered." (or some such), or, more commonly, the same one I encountered repeatedly while searching the internet: "Could not parse diff output." (presumably because kompare still wasn't passing the proper parameters to diff). The program crashed about 1/2 the time (actually, give it a big enough block of data, and it'll crash every time). I was stunned 4 days later when ONE run (an exact duplicate of one I'd already attempted several times) resulted in "proper" output - *PERFECT*, with a complete and correct analysis - and completely unreproduceable, even after rebooting. It's ("It's" = proper analysis/output has) happened 3 times since, twice while working with data sets I would term 'trivial'.
    So, in 2 weeks I got 3 runs w/o errors. I assure you I was trying at least 2 runs most days; a 1/2-dozen some days. By then, I also knew that kompare under KDE wasn't my only option - and I knew a bit more.
    I use the "usual" repositories. When I finally checked diff's compile date, my jaw dropped: Sept. 3, *2002* !!!  It's version 2.8.1; the current stable release is 3.4, and 3.5 is currently available for D/L (albeit not released). V. 2.8.1 works with the 2.6 kernel about as well as the original GWBasic compiler ('interpreter') does in WinXP...and may have been this way for a long time.
    More research (difficult, given the age of what little kompare documentation is available on the web). The primary maintainer apparently got removed from maintaining the package in 2003 (and, I presume, other packages, as well) for what appeared to be 'apathy' (MY words). He 'forgot' to include an update after saying he would do so (a patch to pass the appropriate parameters to diff, hopefully fixing the "Could not parse diff output." message, and maybe even straighten out my anomolies, as well).
    Kompare hasn't been updated since. Diff3 IS currently being maintained. Actually, even though diff3 has apparently replaced diff, *kompare* prefers kdiff3. For that matter, from my reading thus far, diff, diff3, vimdiff and cmp ALL may possibly be useable (the latter would require some scripting). Further, ALL the following may possibly be made able to work as wrappers (in decreasing order of likelihood, IMNSHO): kompare, krusader, meld, and emelFM2.
    So, diff is broken, and it doesn't appear that it's going to be fixed...I personally was a bit consternated when I realised just how off-the-rails kompare was. I see a function such as that provided by kompare as both *critical* AND as a 'black box' function - it HAS to work. Just like the ALU MUST compute 2+2 = 4, or the 'computer' becomes a boat anchor...
    So, I D/L'ed meld (for GNOME; it runs under KDE but no help is avalable), then emelFM2 (written for E17, I believe). I've spent the past week trying various combinations of (a) kompare, krusader, meld and emelFM2 as wrappers for diff under (b) KDE, GNOME, and E17. The results have been SO inconsistent it's scary. This includes both giving apparently proper results with a big job on rare occasion (but not consistently reproduceable), and VERY bizarrely, on one occasion, wiping a brand new, 64 *GB* ext3 partition CLEAN. I assure you the remainder of my testing will be on a dedicated partition! This HD is almost braad-new and has given me ZERO other trouble.
    Meld was the most consistently performing diff setup I used (on any WM; it worked on them all).
    I plan to spend the next 1-2 weeks doing some detailed and structured testing of all possible combos of wrapper/driver/WM, rather than just diff. I also plan to see if it's possible to pass command-line parameters to diff from kompare (if I have the time to spend ANY more w/kompare; kompare clearly isn't what I need - even though it had the . Yes, I *do* know how many combos of 4 wrappers, 4 drivers, and 3 WM's there are (48); my college major was statistics, LOL. And 48 test runs is adequate to test each combo, ONCE...
    To me, this task is like big sort jobs were on mainframes a (human, not computer!) generation ago: potentially very large, critical tasks, the results of which aren't always easy to manually double-check. Surely many, if not most, users have a manner of doing this. Diff has apparently been broken for maybe 5 years and THAT wouldn't have gone unnoticed - am I one of the VERY few to even try to use kompare? What do the rest of you use?
    Note that after locating and reading as much kompare documentation as possible (I read more BUG reports than anything), I made several important discoveries:
    (a) kompare isn't really set up for binary files; it's intended for use with text files. You can specify an option to force a text-mode search, but you apparently canNOT do the reverse.
    (b) It err'ed out comparing two M$ 'Word' files, stating they "were binary"...
    (c) Worst of all, for me: These files have been archived to CD or DVD, usually repeatedly, and then copied back to disk (I've lost 3 good-sized archives this way - which does serve to somewhat justify my apparently obsessive need to backup files). Kompare does do individual file comparisons (ie, if you specify both files on the command line) byte-by-byte (block-by-block, whatever), but if you request that it compare *directories*, filename and size are all it considers (it appears from the sparse documentation I've seen that this is corrected in the *current* version, . The duplicate-file tool suite I used in Windows did an MD5 hash on *every* file, no matter the size; I *knew* when a bit error had creeped in, and usually knew fairly quickly. Not finding out you have a bad backup until it's the only copy of your data you have left is no good!
    Anyone have any suggestions on doing this task efficiently and reliably in Arch?
    Again, I believe this to be an upstream problem in a way, but my guess is that if we were using the *current* diffutils to match the KDE version (and a maintainer had done his job in a timely fashion) this bug would NOT exist. My advice, at least until Arch can get diff3 (or, preferably, kdiff3) packaged, STAY AWAY FROM kompare !!!  At least with anything critical, at least until this issue is better understood.
    Kompare (and diffutils, as well, IMO) needs to be removed from the 'public' repo's until it's close to fixed, at least. Just pkgbuild'ing the current diffutils version (or kdiff3!) is likely the easiest way out. Who knows, MAYBE I'll take a stab at that myself. No promises.
    For ANYONE still reading, WOW! TIA. Really. Sorry for the tome.

    WTF??? What listing? You know that diff and diff3 are different programs but still part of the same upstream sources, don't you?
    [non-relevant nonsense...] See how well kompare/diff work on YOUR system...
    They work fine.
    [kompare bashing]
    Take a look at the URL, bugs.kde.org, not bugs.archlinux.org. Got it?
    I copied the backups from CD's/DVD's to a clean, freshly-showered 64 GB (62.8, actually) ext3 partition (4K blocksize, defaults otherwise, journal included). I set up a top-level directory in this partition with 15 directories beneath it, one for each of my backup discs (whose contents range in size from 50 MB to 4.36 GB). I copied one archive to each directory, then unpacked them one at a time from the command line, removing the archive copy as I went. I ended up with about 15 GB of active data (25%).
    I think I could rest my case already at this point.
    I first configured kompare to use diff (w/no C/L options) running under KDE. As kdiff3 is kompare's preference, however, why is kdiff3 not already in the repos?
    It is: community/kdiff3 0.9.91-1
    (I will skip some paragraphs about the actual kompare usage and come back to that at the very end.)
    Please quit that bullshit and show us version 3.4 of the GNU diffutils.
    Check http://websvn.kde.org/ to follow the development progress of kompare, it's part of kdesdk. diff3 is from diffutils 2.8.1 and I wouldn't call that "maintained", but you already know that. It is obviously not a replacement for diff, did you ever read the manpages? And wow, a KDE program prefers to use another KDE program!
    [killed quite a bit]Diff has apparently been broken for maybe 5 years and THAT wouldn't have gone unnoticed - am I one of the VERY few to even try to use kompare? What do the rest of you use?
    Again, diff is fine and I'm using kompare (or kdiff3?) almost daily, in krusader.
    (a) kompare isn't really set up for binary files; it's intended for use with text files. You can specify an option to force a text-mode search, but you apparently canNOT do the reverse.
    (b) It err'ed out comparing two M$ 'Word' files, stating they "were binary"...
    Genius. Comparing binary files is useless. If you used MS Office you're hosed, that simple. More useful advice at the end.
    Anyone have any suggestions on doing this task efficiently and reliably in Arch?
    Yep.
    Upstream, right... diffutils have nothing to do with KDE at all... Arch has diff3 and kdiff3 packaged ... it's no 'issue' at all.
    Okay, I apologize for that 'tone' of mine but I get pissed easily when wasting so much time on something as this.
    I know your problem very well as I'm constantly backing up stuff, comparing directories and hunting duplicates.
    After unpacking everything the first step to take is to run a comprehensive check for binary duplicates. My tool of choice for that task is Total Commander (Win32 shareware, no timeout, just a minor nag screen on start, works fine with Wine). Just a few random keyboard shortcuts you might find handy (see the help file for explanations): ctrl-b, ctrl-f1(-f6), ctrl-c,y, alt-f7
    After killing them, go on to compare ("synchronize") similar directories, either with Total Commander, Krusader, rsync, diff -R, whatever.
    If you encounter similar named files, check the dates and kill the older ones, or compare them if they're not binary.
    And so on... you know best what kind of data you got and how to split it up.
    Throwing plain diff on a set of thousands of files, possibly gigabytes is a huge waste of time and computing/power resources. Adding a frontend will make it crash most of the time, especially with binary files. I think using kdiff3 to compare the Arch Linux 0.8 base beta1 iso to the beta2 one alone should suffice. A few more gigabytes of RAM might help though.

  • IPhone 6 apps crashing - mapkit bug?

    Hey everyone, so I have an iPhone 6, 64GB.  I've been having app crashing issues with specific apps, and apple it not of much help at all.  I think I may have narrowed down the problem, but wondering if anyone else is having the same issue?  So far, upon search the only other major crashing issues I've seen are with 128GB iphone 6+, and that's not me.  Here's a rundown of what I've experienced:
    9/17/14
    - BRAND NEW iPhone 6, yay, restored from a backup of my iphone 5, and everything was working perfectly, no problems.
    9/26/14
    - That evening while traveling, random apps started crashing.
    - Facebook, Redfin, Maps, sometimes Calendar/Safari/Email, sometimes Fitbit, sometimes Myfitnesspal.
    - By crashing, I mean that they close abruptly with no warning. Sometimes they will actually load initially, but then after a few actions or minutes of use, they crash (facebook, email/safari/calendar).  Some apps just NEVER load (Maps, Redfin), they begin to launch and then immediately close.  They appear to close, but when you double-click the home button to see which apps are running, there they sit in all their glory, but you can't actually use them: bringing them back to the front of open apps just makes them appear to "crash" again.  I guess it's technically more of a display error, in that the app is technically running, but you can't see it and therefore use it.
    *Side note - Coincidence this was the day the fatal/buggy iOS 8.0.1 update was released? Although I hadn't installed it yet...but weird nonetheless.
    9/27/14
    - Installed 8.0.1 over wi-fi (traveling and no computer), but didn't fix the crashing problem.
    10/27/14
    - Still been crashing all this time, life without maps and facebook is hard.
    - Attempted to install 8.1 and had horrific errors.  Had to wipe everything and set up as new phone, install the 8.1 update, and then restore from my last iphone 5 backup.
    - App crashing has ceased, and maps and all other apps are working normally. Not happy I've lost the past 45 days of history, but at least the phone is working again and I have *most* of my stuff.
    12/22/14
    - Haven't had a problem since the last fix in October.  Once again while traveling and literally on the plane out of town (I think maybe I'm cursed?), same crashing issues start.
    - It began with Facebook, then I immediately checked maps, calendar, safari etc etc and they're all broken again.  In case you didn't know, traveling in a city that you don't know without maps at your fingertips, and facebook to post your exciting updates, is not fun. Begrudgingly gritted my teeth and dealt with it until I could get home from travels and try to fix it.
    1/12/15
    - So I've been paying attention to this crashing thing the last few weeks and taking notes, trying to figure it out, because I actually want Apple to fix this, but I can't take it anymore.
    - Started out by turning on iCloud Photo Library beta to make sure all photos/vids are stored, then also did an iCloud backup and a full iTunes backup.  Also took screenshots of screen layout and other important settings.
    - Called Apple Support and they (of course) told me I need to update to 8.1.2 (dreading this!), and then wipe everything, setup as a new phone, and see if it's still having the problem; then restore from this mornings backup and see if that fixes it.
    - I first wiped the phone, just in case the glitch/bug is what caused my last update attempt to go awry.  Then setup as new phone, then updated software, then restored from this mornings backup.  Seems to be working again, and now the crashing is not happening.  BUT - we all know it will start happening again at some time in the future, when the stars align or some random thing triggers that glitch that starts this whole nightmare.
    WHAT I'VE GATHERED FROM THIS:
    1) Apple support techs are very quick to assume it's probably a corrupt backup file, and that the only way to permanently fix it is to setup as new phone and ditch the old data.  Well I'm sorry, but that's just not acceptable to me.  For one, every time I've restored from a backup, it appears to fix the issue.  That leads me to believe there is a bug that isn't initially a problem until something triggers it.  Two, I do not pay premium $ to have an iphone so that I can be told "sorry, you just have a dud backup file, if you want your phone to work properly you need to lose all your history"...I buy the iphone because of it's ease of use, and being able to seamlessly upgrade devices. At that price point, the phone better work flawlessly, and if there's a problem they need to actually fix the problem.  I didn't write the code, and I certainly didn't go into my backup and change the code. And three, I have way too much data to lose in apps, messages etc - losing that alone would be worse than dealing with this dumb glitch.
    2) After looking at the Diagnostic Crash Logs, all these app crashes have something to do with the Mapkit code, and sometimes also a Vectorkit code which I'm assuming is how the phone renders the map data and displays it. I'm not a developer or coder, I don't speak that language, but I can clearly see the event is EXC_CRASH and the thread each log points to has SOMETHING to do with MapKit and sometimes Vectorkit.  Being that all these apps do use apple's native maps app to display or lookup map data - it's clear to me that this seems to be the issue.  In researching further, I came across this post from a developer who mentions something about it: http://thecodist.com/article/our_ios_app_crash_rate :
         "1/3 of the crashes are a particular one in MapKit where Apple's tile loading code in VectorKit appears to try to update a map which has already been      deallocated. I reported it in Radar but so far no idea if they are going to fix it. It appears that when a map tile load isn't delivered fast enough it can complete      after the app has already removed the map view."
    I'd like for them to actually fix this!

    Lol what is the point of a Support Community blog if all anyone is going to tell anyone is restart/wipe their device?  That's garbage.
    @socialprincess1, I have THIS EXACT PROBLEM with my phone.  I travel (specifically air travel) and suddenly, like clock work as we push back from the gate, all apps that utilize mapkit crash.  I've reproduced this problem 4 times in the last month (I've done a lot of air travel).  Facebook, Apple Maps, Weather, Weather Underground, Lyft, etc.  ALL CRASH.
    Apps that use the Google Maps engine, Google Maps, Uber, etc. all work fine....how ironic.
    The only thing that stops the crashing is restoring the device.  Now, you can backup your device while its crashing and restore from that backup and your device will start working fine again...but this doesn't fix the underlying problem that this "mapkit bug" will arise again.
    My only guess at this point in the debug process is it *may* have something to do with the on-board wifi (gogo-inflight, etc.), as it is the only thing that is unique to air travel. Maybe there's a cert that its trying to install or maybe even the Fly Delta app is doing something funky with location services/mapkit.  At this point I really have no idea.
    I've also noticed that the location services icon (black compass mark) is on CONSTANTLY now.
    I have a 128GB iPhone 6 that I restored from my iPhone 5 backup upon receiving as well.

  • Windows 8.1 wifi not working after sleep (and other various bugs)

    Hello Apple support forum, this is my first post!
    Alright, so I just switched to my first mac. MBP Retina late '13. I bought it primarily to run windows, and to also of course use OS10.
    My issues in bootcamp however are getting annoying. My Wifi shows up as connected after I resume from sleep, but my mac won't let me disable wifi, enable airplane mode and then re-enable wifi, nothing. The only way to get wifi to work when resuming from sleep is to reboot.
    I just set hibernate when close lid on all my power modes, and basically disabled sleep for now. Hibernate works fine for now, but sleep is much faster from resume and also I'm not sure if the machine will wake up from a simple tap on the keyboard or opening of the lid, I think I have to actually boot it all over again anyways.
    My other minor but still annoying issue is my titles of windows in windows are showing up as black (screenshot here)
    the only other thing I was curious about was the dual-gpu functionality. I know from reading these forums it's probably not possible because of the hardware and software mesh apple created for OSX and their dual-gpu design, how it wouldn't really work in windows. I'm just wondering if anyone ever got this to work in windows maybe on the older retina MBP or older macs, or if anyone is making progress on trying to fix that in windows? I bought this laptop expecting that to work, even the geniuses at the Apple store said it would be possible, I was misled and might have second-gussed buying a 3k machine if it would only get a few more hours battery than my old Vaio. I bought this machine primarily for battery life.
    I'm just remembering another tiny tiny issue. When I plug headphones in the headphone jack in windows, it doesn't automatically switch to that audio output, I have to manually do it in audio settings, is this a bug, have I configured something incorrectly, and is there a fix?
    One other thing is my dpi settings, I have it set to a larger font and everything because at stock it is SOOO tiny. my question is, is there any way to smooth out text in other apps, my browser and apps like rdio look like crap unless I leave the dpi settings stock, which I basically need a magnifying glass to use (I tried that for a week lol. Not the magnifying glass tho haha)
    I know I'm rambling at this point, but in the windows 8.1 camera app, sometimes my camera does this bug where it flips between inverted and normal, extremely quickly, so it looks like there are two of me. I don't know if this was GPU drivers tho, because just reinstalled those this morning and it seems to be ok so far.
    also, the keyboard. I miss my context menu key, what do I need two command keys for? A right alt button, I'd rather have that be the other control button. Any way to remap these easily? what about switching Fn with control on the left, I prefer my windows button in the exact corner.
    last question tho, I saw people overclocking gpu's on their retinas from last year, can you do this on the new retinas, and can you overclock the cpu as well as the gpu?
    I do have to say this in the end, I am a little dissapointed with apple, I was told thst my mac would run windows like a native windows machine. I know windows 8.1 is not supported, but coming from PC's for years, and being a PC technician, I also go to school for computer engineering, I expected everything to "just work" as steve jobs once said. Well, it doesn't just work. I even had these issues in windows 8, which is supported.
    Installing windows 8 was a nightmare. I had to use the forums, try for weeks to get windows 8 to finally instll the proper (uefi) way, and to get everything usable, I had to reinstall my os's twice.
    Apple, if you are going to advertise a mac that can run windows "seamlessly", you need to get these major issues fixed, support all new versions of windows before they are even release, and release proper hardware drivers and support software before new hardware is released. All other Windows OEMS are pretty much required to do this to stay in business. I don't dislike OSX, I just use windows for everything I can't use Mac for, so please fix this. You're better than this, you should put a higher standard on this. otherwise, don't advertise macs that can run windows.
    Thanks guys, sorry for the information overload. BTW, MBP Retina 15" 16GB RAM 512 SSD, 2.6 haswell, pretty much the max specs other than the SSD.

    I have stated every issue I’ve had so far in a fairly clear and concise way. I think if you read what I wrote, it all makes logical sense as to what is going on. Windows 7/8 would work just as well on a Mac if it was supported the same way the OS is for other OEMs.
    As I stated earlier in the post, I’m having these same issues in windows 8, not just 8.1, which is the reason for the post. I know the difference between supported by drivers and not supported by the manufacturer. The fact that when Haswell mbp’s came out and no revision to bootcamp for the new hardware was released to fix issues with installing windows on the new hardware shows Apple clearly Is not supporting bootcamp as strongly as they advertise.
    I am being realistic on Apple having drivers early. Anyone with an MSDN subscription can download the RELEASE version of windows months ahead of the actual release, I’m 100% sure if any average consumer can do that by paying $100 and saying they are a developer, apple can do it just as easily.
    You aren’t much help, you haven’t answered really anything to my post, nor have you contributed any knowledge that wasn’t clearly posted above, so don’t say anything if you don’t have anything to contribute.
    By the way, my rant is directed at apple, as you can see because I am saying “Apple, if you are going to…” because this is an Apple forum on Apple’s website. It is not directed to end users, clearly.

  • A fix for the iTunes -- iPhone indefinite sync bug

    Moderators feel free to move this to the appropriate place. I was having this problem for a while now. I'd connect my iphone and it would sync forever. I'd have to manually abort the sync. This led to stuff never actually syncing, and music disappearing from my iPhone. I did some Googling and came up with some solutions, and I tried one myself and it worked perfectly.
    1. In iTunes, go to preferences, then go to Devices. Make sure the box is checked, that says "Prevent iPhones, iPods, and iPads from syncing automatically. Press OK.
    2. If your iDevice is already connected, and already "infinitely syncing" you will have to manually stop the sync at this time. If not, connect your iDevice.
    3. Still in iTunes, click on your device in the left-hand column, and go to the Music tab.
    4. Uncheck the big box at the top that says "Sync Music"
    5. Click the "Apply" button in the lower right-hand corner.
    6. WAIT PATIENTLY. This will take a VERY long time. It WILL look like it is still hanging indefinitely, but I promise you, it is not. It took about 30 minutes for me, and the entire time it said "Finishing Sync." I thought it wasn't even going to work, but eventually, I noticed it started updating Podcasts, and a bunch of other stuff, presumably accumulated changes over the duration of this bug. I think at this time it is also file-checking your entire iDevice, presumably because of all those times you had to manually interrupt the synchronization.
    7. After the iPhone fully completes its sync, Re-check the "Sync Music" box, and click Apply again. For best results, just pick your 1 or 2 favorite playlists to sync right now, then later tonight you can sync back your entire library, and leave it to sync as you watch TV or eat dinnner or what not... don't force yourself to sit through syncing thousands of songs if you don't have to, lol.
    It is working for me after following these steps. I have NOT tried setting iTunes back to automatic syncs (undoing Step #1). I'd imagine that doing so will re-trigger the bug. You're welcome to try, and I will maybe try tonight when I am free, but for now, I'm actually late for class, but I really wanted to share this because I know this is a pretty big issue, especially if you love music like I do.

    Backup, restore as a new device, restore your backup.

  • Annoying bug in finder....how is possible that this thing was not noticed?

    I can understand that is not possible to see all the bugs, but this is kinda bothering me, because is not exactly a bug that require a lot of efforts at all....here we go, maybe you know about it so iw ould love to know when it will be fixed.
    format an USB disk as "apple partition map" (not GUID or boot), now copy a lot of stuff on it (20-30-50 Gb, doesn't matter once that you have more than 5 Gb and you are dealing with a lot of files or packages, and you will see that everything goes fine.
    Now copy FROM the USB drive to anywhere else... now start to cry, because you will see messages from finder, saying that an error has occurred and the file is unreadable (-36); then the bar of the copy window stay stuck on the screen and you need to restart finder to make it work again.
    a workaround is to copy small quantity of data...but if you deal, like me, with big data moving and stuff like that you wikll understand that is not possible to loose hours to copy stuff one by one, instead of select the entire folder and wait that it will copy.
    It works from USB to USB (apple partition map), same from computer to USB (apm) but not on the other direction, so can't be the drive, and i've tried with another USB drive formatted with GUID and it works fine in both directions, while when you format it in APM it won't work form USB to computer (or any other device).
    I've updated to the latest 10.5.1, is still doing it.... hoping that 10.5.2 will fix the issue, and please don't tell me to move 2 Tb of data somewhere else because i need to format my disks as GUID and not as APM would be too much to take LOL
    BTW, every computer that is sold after Oct receive free leopard even if it does not came with it.... now i wonder if you do the same with the computer bought in september, since i spent money for a mac pro that came with tiger... would be really nice since you put on it all the latest software (ilife 08 and iwork 08) to have also Leopard, since is a business machine that cost 3k and not a toy like a pc that cost 500 dollars
    I have a picture to show the issue; but i don't see anything here that let me attach pictures (btw the thing is so evident that you don't need one)
    I've upgraded from Tig to Leo; could be possible that this is the problem, but even in this case i would expect that an upgrade, if offered as option, should be able to let the machine to work without flaws like this one...honestly is not acceptable at all, especially from your company.
    And please: add the discussion link on the Leopard page in the support section...it took me 20 minutes to find a way to go in the discussion forum (had no idea if there is one, since is not mentioned on the Leopard support page), and is even harder to find a link to post a bug or to send a message to the dev team about issues like that.
    Thanks, hope that somebody will take care of this!

    Thanks Ashka and Larry.
    I will send a message to the link that you have pointed out; hoping that somebody will see it and fix the issue.
    I was expecting that an Apple representative would be on teh forum monitoring the things and checking what happens here....but seems that is not the case
    BTW i am glad that i was able to test-drive Leopard....now i know that i can stick with Tiger until the issues are resolved
    At the moment the only way that i have to copy files is using the console instead of finder:
    ditto -V -rsrc [source] [destination]
    with this command you can copy entirely the files (works differently from cp and is specific for mac, since is a dev tool from apple included in any MAc OSX); so if you have issue like mine you can use this command in terminal and you will be able to copy stuff that won't copy using finder.
    BTW now i know that there is a direct url at discussions.apple.com; before i was simply going in the specific software/hardware section and clicking on the link "visit the discussions here", while on Leopard page (and also on other pages, like imovie or itunes), there is no link to the discussions, so if you are not so smart you are basically not able to find the discussion forum site

  • Is this really a "bug" in dba_tab_columns?

    Hi Guys, it's Xev.
    I have been struggling with this for weeks now. No matter what I do, I cannot get my procedure to see dba_tab_columns inside of my procedure at run-time. It just blows up and says
    "cannot see table or view", that generic answer.
    Is there really a bug or limitation with how I am using this dba view? is there something else I can do? it simply will not recognize the other custom users also.
    I have two basic lines of defense here, but both of them do not what I need them to do.
    Can someone please help me on this.
    Ok, this is the "first method" that I have tried to use, it works great, but "only" for one user at a time. I cannot get it to "search" all the rest of the "user schema's". It finds what I tell it to,
    but only in the schema, tables and fields in the user that is executing it. I've tried to switch out (user_tab_columns) for dba_tab_columns, but it blows up and tells me that it "cannot see the table or view".
    This is my preferred method. If you can alter this to make it find other other users in other schema's through-out the entire database, I would do anything for you!!!

    This is the second method, it also does a good job finding what i want it to, but still doesn't search the other users and other schema's. If you can alter this to make it find other users and other schema's I'll go crazy! LOL!
    For test data simply create a table in your schema and put a "nine digit" number anywhere in the fields and both of these procedures will find them, but only for that "USER".
    AND, that's my problem, I have to many custom user's to go on the instances and create procedures for each and every user. it's just not practical.
    I really need you guys on this, Happy New Year!

    Happy New Year, if you can get this to find other users!!! GOOD LUCK!

    Hi Solomon,
    Ok, I understand the first 2 grants, but just to make sure this is what I think they are, I don't understand the third grant, so can you supply the actual grant statement.
    Here are the first 2 grant statements. The users name is "directgrant1".
    SQL>  GRANT SELECT ANY TABLE TO DIRECTGRANT1;
    SQL> GRANT SELECT ON SYS.DBA_TAB_COLS TO DIRECTGRANT1;
    Can you please provide the third grant statement?
    Now, this stored procedure code below, actually works, but it only finds the tables and fields within it's own schema. I have over 28 custom schema's to search for this nine digit number, so I need this stored procedure to search all of the schema's/Tables/Fields for a nine digit number in the entire database.
    This stored procedure compiles and executes with no problem, but I need to use dba_tab_cols so it can find all the other users right? or is there a better way to do this Solomon?
    As you can see, this stored procedure code uses "user_tab_cols" and only finds "one user tables/fields". If i use dba_tab_cols in it's place, then will it find all  the other users in the entire database? That is correct right Solomon?  Also, when i ran this procedure last night in my Test Database, it opened 3 cursors. Do we have to tell in in the code somewhere to close the sys_refcursor cursor? or does Oracle close it itself, since it's "implicit?"
    Also, the tables that this will be "searching" actually have 40 Million plus records in them. Could this procedure cause the database to crash? Is 40 Million plus table records to much to use something like what we have below??

  • Permissions bug, according to ISP engineer.

    I am having problems setting up VPN for Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, home workstation computer, not networked.
    I am also having general non-specific problems with Internet connectivity, according to network engineers.
    I having a WiFi Mac and a hard-wired cable connect PC sharing the same modem at home.
    The two machines are not 'networked', but standalone workstations. Relevant?
    Specifically, I get script errors when I try to setup any 3rd party VPN service.
    I can ignore error and VPN sets up.
    But then the number of non-specific problems increase.
    All of the 3rd party vendors, AND MY ISP ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT... blame Windows.
    LOL! Maybe more specifically, there's something Windows and I should be doing, that we are not doing.
    I noticed that my Ethernet Network has not selected Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol.
    What happens if I install this "Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol"?
    Is this why VPN is grumpy?
    I found these two interesting links, but they don't point me in any specific direction.
    ( Direction? I am lost. That is why I am posting here? )
    http://batcmd.com/windows/8/services/ndisimplatform/
    http://www.ehow.com/list_6774290_multiplexing-protocols.html
    Also, every time I click Diagnose (hiding behind Properties popup in above capture), I get errors after installing Windows. Microsoft Research did something here, and the errors are gone in this particular  Windows installation, but I still can't install
    VPN without errors.
    Very simply, the batcmd files runs as follows:
    @echo off
    sc config NdisImPlatform start= demand
    exit
    Anecdote   MNAMP is for Network Teaming and Binding. Provides a platform for network adapter load balancing and fall-over.
    Query   MNAMP may resolve some permissions issue that causes VPN installers to display 'SCRIPT ERROR' during install. Considered that script error displays without Windows popup error and may be related to "waiting for Windows Firewall to
    respond". At same time Windows Event viewer shows Error (reasoned with ISP engineer just now, possible Windows 8.1 Pro permissions bug, with implications far beyond VPN installer hangs)

    Hi,
    I think Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol is nothing to do with your issue. It was not installed by default. If it is not designated as “necessary” in vendor user Guide. I don’t think it will affect VPN connection.
    Regarding to third party software/service problem, it is actually out of our support scope and our help might be limited.
    We suggest you contact your program vendor to check if they have guidance for this.
    The normal way to fix this would be to run services.msc, or to go into Administrative Tools and run "Services". You will not be able to do that if the "Application Information" service is disabled. Instead, reboot your computer into Safe
    Mode with Networking. Then run services.msc and look for services that are designated as "Disabled" in the Startup Type column. Change these "Disabled" services to "Automatic". Make sure the "Application Information"
    service is set to a Startup Type of "Automatic". When you are done enabling your services, click Ok at the bottom of the tool and reboot your computer back into normal mode.
    If you are facing Access Denied Error when using SC command.
    You may first try to enable the default administrator on your computer and later try to run the command in elevated command prompt and verify if you are able to run the command successfully.
    To enable the default Administrator account, perform the steps below:
    1. Click Start and type CMD in the Start search box
    2. Right click on CMD in the list and click on "Run as administrator"
    3. Type the following command: net user administrator /active:yes
    Restart the computer and you should see an "Administrator" account.
    Access Administrator account and follow the steps 1 and 2 and try to run the command.
    If you need to do that for certain purpose such as running VPN when startup computer. You could provide us more details so we might find some workaround for you.
    Thanks for your understanding.
    Regards
    D. Wu

  • A BUG with login

    Hi,
    When I receive email with reply to the thread which I watch, I'm trying to go by the link in the mail directly to the thread. If I need to answer, I can't do it. Because of the annoying bug: SAP Community Network (the left upper side of the screen) says: "Welcome Eugene", the Forum says: "Welcome Guest". So, I cannot post my answer. Because, I'm both, EUgene and Guest!.

    If I want to get into forms again, despite of the fact that I was recognised, the system requires my credentials:

    In order do anything, not only to post the answer I have to
    1. Log off
    2. Enter My user name and password
    3. Navigate manually to the thread I'm interested in
    And only after that I may answer.
    Do you think it's convinient, ha?

    Confirming this....
    Its not a firefox only issue....
    I use internet explorer and happens many a times with me.....though very rarely considering the amount of mails i get from this forum daily....!!!
    But what i do is click on the Forums link on the top left which takes me to the main index listing all forums, and then, i navigate back to that post....!!

  • AFP Finder Bug Report/Collapse AFP Folders over the Command Line

    Hello,
    I have a MacPro server that I am using to deliver scanned images of business recoreds.  I absolutely love how cover flow and spotlight work toghether and in fact this is one of the main reasons I chose Apple in 2009.
    However, the number of records has grown quite a lot.  Somehow today a user opened/expanded all of the folders and now every user is seeing all folders expanded.  Unforunately it has become impossible to get a directory listing because there are over a million pages opening previews.  This has caused my business to come to a grinding halt!
    So my suggestion to Apple is that this is a bug!  This is just like Lion that remembers which windows and applications are open and what a mess that created for people who open a lot of windows and so many users looked to create a workaround to prevent this either for specific applicaitons or to disable it all together.  Fortunately in Lion updates and ML it is possible to disable this feature.  This needs to be changed because because when a computer defaults to opening windows and resources not requested by the user(s) it bogs down the entire system and degrades the user's experience on the application they are actually working on.  Who in their right mind would want Safari to open up Drudge Report, CNN, Yahoo, every dirty movie I've ever watched and 50 pages of LOL Cats if I just want to check the weather or try and find a good resteraunt to take my wife to dinner.  Opening windows or folders by default is not an elegant use of our computer resources, is not minimalist design, and is not helpful in any way whatsoever.  These features create nothing but dust and clutter and users should demand these so called features be turned off by default.
    And my question for the super users:  HOW CAN I FIX THIS?  There must be a plist file I can delete and recreate or at least edit?  A permissions change to prevent this from happening again?  Sudo something?
    Thanks,
    Jake
    p.s.  A new MacPro with thunderbolt would be nice.

    Thank you.  Yes it is a read only directory so I am flummoxed as to how .dsstore was modified?  I have tested multiple times to be sure users cannot accidentally delete or modify an archived file. tomorrow I will look to see how ds store was modified.
    Users upload files into a drop box and they are inserted with rsync to prevent overwrites.   Several pitfalls to using finder for this purpose most notably the tendency to overwrite completely a folder so files may get deleted.   These are important records so early on I set it up so once a file was inserted it could not be removed without logging in as a specific management user.
    But the user interface is so awesome to view the files I just can't imagine a competitive product being so nice as to scroll through the pages in cover flow like you are flipping through a file.  Most of the time I can scan the files' contents without even oppening preview or even hitting the space bar. Cover flow gives me the intuitive feel of paper I like.
    If you have a product to suggest I would look at it.
    Jake
