Look And Feel (branding) change in web application?

I am doing a research and I neeed advice from people who have more experience in dynamic customizing of java web applications.
In my custom case I have a simple login page with some images, labels and so on. The idea is to implement it in such a way to allow easy customization of some parts from the page.
For example let's say that the application is used by company AAA. Thay might want to change the logo image with their own image and change the default 'disclaimer' text with some other text by using appropriate admin module which allows user-friendly interaction.
The task seems very easy and it really IS very easy, I just wonder if there are any 'best practices' for such a situation.
One approach is to define all changable resources in standard .properties file. Having in mind that I have < 10 changable resources this seems reasonable enough. Anyway I still prefer to use additional table with two columns (key->value) which is the same as using .properties file, only the API to access these resources would be slightly different. I have in mind that the DB approach is somehow more flexible because in the future I might need more changable resources in more than one page, and reading/writing large .properties file might not be the best solution.
Any recommendations or other approaches to solve the 'problem'?

U have an another option "XML".
sample :
<profile>
<company1>
<logo></logo>
<disclaimer></disclaimer>
</company1>
<company2>
<logo></logo>
<disclaimer></disclaimer>
</company2>

  • Customised look and feel for B2B/B2C web shop.

    Dear experts,
                I would like to find out if there is an admin page for SAP E-commerce to customise the look and feel of the webshop?
    Thanks.
    Wein

    Hi Wein,
    To change Look and Feel for Web shop is depends on scenario of eCommerce application i.e. B2B or B2C. B2B has different structure than B2C.
    Web Channel application comes in SAP standard with SAP look and Feel. You have to change look and feel as per client requirement.
    To change look and feel of Both B2B/B2C scenario you have to deal with files like CSS, JSP, Properties, XLF and some time you have to add your custom JAVA, JSP, CSS, Properties files etc...
    To change standard SAP logo youhave to make change in CSS files. Also you have to consider Browser type while changing look and feel because to display your B2B/B2C application correctly in different browser you have to make changes in different CSS.
    You will get better idea with example how to change look and feel in "Dev & Ext. Guide" for Web Shop. You will get this from Service Market place.

  • NetBeans: Dinamically changing Look and Feel Problem

    Hi there, Java lovers.
    I need some help here!
    I love java, and I used to program my graphical user interfaces by hand. In my applications, there is a dropdown for the user to chose the desired look and feel. Then I save the selected option to a file and on the startup I do something like this:
                UIManager.setLookAndFeel(savedUserSelectedLookAndFeel);That always worked really fine. The look and feel would change and everything worked really well.
    However, programing GUI by hand is really a PITA. So I was seduced by Netbeans. I am using Netbeans 6.0 on Windows XP, and I designed the GUIs really fast now.
    The problem is, the system look and feel works really well, but when I change the look and feel of my application to a different one (Java/Motif/etc..) the look and feel changes but the components positions and sizes becomes all messed up. It really becomes impossible to work with a different look and feel because some components are outside of frames.
    I believe the cause of this is because Netbeans generates the code automatically using Grids and stuff like that, and by doing so, the change of the look and feel becomes messed up. This is a thing that would not happen with my manually created code.
    This is really troubling me. Does someone has the same problem. Is there something I can do? Or do I need to create my GUIs by hand like before?

    Sorry for the delay in reply, but one problem for you is that this is not a NetBeans users forum, thus you will not necessarily receive speedy replies here to your NetBeans questions. The best place to send NetBeans questions is:

    [email protected] (for NetBeans API issues)
    As for your question, you seem to already know quite a bit about NetBeans UI Look and Feel programming, but have you seen these:

  • SAP Portal Custom Themes to change ESS/MSS UI Look and feel , possible ?

    Hi,
    I have a requirement where the look and feel of the UI controls of the ESS/MSS applications have to be different - Jazzy
    I know XSS homepage framework is for the customisation of Areas, Sub Areas. What I am more interested is only the look and feel UI of ESS/MSS applications.
    If I change the standard theme of portal using Theme Editor and create a new custom theme with different back ground colors, fonts, sizes for all the UI controls,.Will the customised Theme apply on the standard ESS /  MSS screens ? Also my doubt is we are using EHP3 and I am not sure how many are Webdynpro java based or webdynpro Abap based.
    Will the theme apply to both WDA and WDJ application UI controls?
    Any inputs in this regard will be of great help. thanks in advance.

  • Losing Title Bar when changing Look and Feel on the fly

    Hello,
    I have an option in my Swing app for the user to change the Look & Feel on the fly by selecting from a radio button list. The look and feel is changed when the user make the selection, however the Windows Title Bar disappears. Any ideas what I'm missing?
    private void setLook(String mode)
    String lookAndFeelClassName = null;
    UIManager.LookAndFeelInfo looks[] = UIManager.getInstalledLookAndFeels();
    for (int i = 0; i < looks.length; i++)
    if (mode.equalsIgnoreCase(looks.getName()))
    lookAndFeelClassName = looks[i].getClassName();
    break;
    try
    m_view.dispose();
    UIManager.setLookAndFeel(lookAndFeelClassName);
    SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(m_view);
    m_view.setVisible(true);
    catch (Exception e)
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(m_view, "Can't change look and feel:" + lookAndFeelClassName, "Invalid PLAF", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);

    You are disposing the view. My guess is that this is your problem. Try creating a new one instead of just showing the old disposed one

  • What are the functions of look and feel files?

    Hi,
    If some one can explain me what are individual role in look and feel of the ISA B2C application.
    mainFS.jsp
    main_inner.jsp
    catalogFS.jsp
    accountFS.jsp
    refresherB2C.jsp
    I want to know function of each files. If I change any file then where exactly I can see changes which I made.
    Any help from any one highly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Ashish

    Hi,
    If you get hold of the ISA Development and Extension guide there is a section highlighting which frames go where in the main application.
    You can also see which .jsp pages are displayed where by adding the following parameter to the root URL of the application when you logon.
    http://<host>:<port>/b2c/b2c/init.do?showmodulename=true
    This will display the name of each jsp page in the frames on screen.
    Also, surely you must have been asked to change certain aspects of the application - not specific files?  You shouldn't just change the files and then "see what happens"...
    Hope this helps,
    Gareth.

  • Look and Feel

    Salutations,
    I am writing a simple swing program that when the user clicks a button corresponding to a look and feel name ie "Metal" etc. the Look and Feel is Changed, it works great except for one problem, it will not change to the "Metal" look and feel, I believe this to be the default look and feel, but when changed to another, it will not change back. Any suggestions?
    thanks,
    J

    Here's the code from the SwingSet2 Demo:
    // Possible Look & Feels
        private static final String mac      = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.mac.MacLookAndFeel";
        private static final String metal    = "javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel";
        private static final String motif    = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.motif.MotifLookAndFeel";
        private static final String windows  = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel";
            try {
                UIManager.setLookAndFeel(currentLookAndFeel);
                SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(this);
                // where currentLookAndFeel is one of those Strings
            } catch (Exception ex) {
             System.out.println("Failed loading L&F: " + currentLookAndFeel);
             System.out.println(ex);
    // And as an (unexpected) bonus, it's the same as the code I once used:
    static String windowsClassName = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel";
            try
                javax.swing.UIManager.setLookAndFeel(windowsClassName);
                javax.swing.SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(this);
            catch(Exception e)

  • Is a JSP Tag Library providing Oracle Financial look and feel available

    We are going to use Oracle Financial as part of our future application.
    That is why other parts of it (which we plan to develop using JDeveloper)
    have to have the same Look and Feel.
    Is a JSP Tag Library that provides Oracle Financial Look and Feel available?

    Oracle Applications use BC4J, UIX, and JDeveloper.
    The UIX framework implements the Oracle "Browser Look And Feel" (BLAF) that our Oracle Applications self-service applications use.
    The UIX JSP tag library lets JSP developers do the same.

  • Change of Layout/Look and Feel in BI 7 Reports.

    Hi,
    This is Prem from NetWeaver Portals.
    Currently we have a couple of BI 7.0 reports integrated into portal.
    We have also used Portal Themes to alter the Look and Feel of the BI reports with respect to Heading colors, alternate row colors etc. But the scope of changing the Look and feel of BI reports from the Portal theme is very limited.
    Is there a way to modify it further from BI's CSS?
    Where is this functionality provided in SAP BI 7.0?
    We are also interested in changing the Layout of the reports in BI. i.e. unlike the standard BI format of reports as generated from the Web Application designer, we would like to change the layout as well.
    How is this layout change carried out? Web Templates?
    Kindly spell out a solution for me as I'm not aware of BI
    Thanks and Regards,
    Prem

    Could yo please explain little detial. how do you changed the look and feel of reports through the portal themes. We are trying to change the colors of the execptions and text box and some more.  we have created a custom theme  in which we changed the  complex formatted table  crictal, bad, good colors. when we assigned this theme through personalization to the user, custom theme colors are not seen in the BW report.

  • UIX: change image in corporateBranding dependent on choosen Look And Feel

    Is it possible to change a image used in the corporateBranding dependent on choosen Look And Feel?

    If your corporate branding is an image, you can to bind the "source" attribute and return the appropriate image depending on the laf. You can get the laf off the renderingContext. The data binding chapter is here:

  • Changing Look and Feel

    I finally figured out how to change the look and feel of an application, but now I'm trying to figure out how the user can change it during run time. I was thinking that when the user chooses a "look" the program could just reload and send the lookAndFeel (such as com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel) to the main's arguments, but I'm not sure how I could do this exactly... any push in the right direction would be great.. thanks.

    thanks! I tried using the SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI method, and it worked for the most part, but for some reason now when I use this code:
    try {
         UIManager.setLookAndFeel("com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel");
         SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(this);
         pack();
    catch (Exception e) {
    }The frame seems to turn into a JWindow... as in the title bar disappears.... I'm not sure why it's doing that...

  • Changing Look and Feel of Annual Appraisal document

    Hi all,
    I have the requirement to change the look and feel of Annual Appraisal document.
    I need to add a header to the first column in Appraisal document.
    I am confused as to where the changes are to be made (In HAP_DOCUMENT,Annual template or BSP code)
    Have checked most of the blogs and threads in forums,but no help yet.
    Please let me know where the changes have to made and how?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sumangala

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
    I checked "Document_header.htm" as you mentioned.
    It agian points to few other header files such as "Document_header_appraisee.htm","Document_header_appraiser.htm" .
    When i go and check these files,  the code refers to settings no of columns,rows. No link to Header text anywhere.
    From where these headers are set actually.Any configuration in template or header text are written in the code only?
    and also curious to know what this line refers to
    "<%= otr(PAOC_HAP_DOCUMENT_UI/TEXT_ADDITIONAL) %> <%= APPLICATION->doc-S_HEADER_TEXTS-OTHER_TYPE_TXT %>"

  • HAP_DOCUMENT look and feel change

    Guys,
    We have designed a ZHAP_DOCUMENT which is running fine when we run from portal with user defined look and feel. However, when the Manager gets a notification in UWL and he uses the link to execute the application(i.e. a workflow getting triggered in the background), Manager sees the display unlike portal which is quite relevant to SAP standard look and feel.
    What should we be doing to change the display in Workflow?
    Let me know if you guys need further details.
    Cheers,
