Looking at getting Lightroom but not interested in the cloud monthly payments. What are my options and is lightroom 4 still available to purchase from Adobe?

LR 4 is not available for sale from Adobe. LR4 is the last version that will run on OSX 10.6.8+, Windows XP and Windows Vista. You may be able to find it still for sale on Amazon, but be careful of scammers that aren’t Adobe authorized resellers and are probably selling pirated software that won’t be able to be licensed. Also don’t buy the $80 upgrade version when you’ll need the $120 full version. The upgrade and full versions function the same, but the upgrade version requires having a previous version’s serial number in addition to the current version’s serial number to be licensed. Since you’re just starting out with LR you wouldn’t have a previous version serial number.
LR 5 is available for purchase both with and without paying a subscription. LR 5 requires OSX 10.7+ or Windows 7+.
If you are interested in LR 5.x without paying a subscription then download the LR 5.6 update from here, and run it in trial mode for up to 30 days, to see if it’ll work on your computer and with your workflow:

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
• Burn - Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD

Actually, I just checked my scratch disk available space and it says ot is over 1.7 TB!! I am only using the C drive as my scratch drive, as that is my only drive. Anyway, I appreciate your help! Still will not function properly. Maybe I should try reinstalling Photoshop.

I was in the middle of installing the new update using the wifi at a local restaurant when I lost the wifi signal and my iPhone shut down, and now I can't get into the phone. I only get the iTunes logo with the cable pic. What are my options now?
Your only option is to connect your iPhone to your computer via USB (as the diagram indicates) and restore using iTunes.

Not crazy about my iDVD templates. What are my options?
Can I throw up a plain background or import a picture? Can I choose my own music? Can I use a video clip. If so how do I go about diverting from the templates.

If you have upgraded from earlier versions of iMovie, you can use some of the older plain themes, such as: 'Sage', 'Graphite' or 'Sky'. There is even one that says 'Your Photo Here'. You may have to experiment to find which takes your photo easily, and where the movie labels end up over the photo.
If you want to use many of your photos, 'Reveal' would be fun to choose.
If you have only the v 4 themes, use 'Marquee' and just drop your photo into the background. Go to 'Settings' and change the location of the title to 'custom' so you can move it anywhere on the screen. The marquee design will be covered over by your photo.
You can select your own music from iTunes. In the 'media' section, go to 'audio' and find your itunes songs. When you select the one you want, click on the 'apply' button. Then go to 'Settings' to choose how long the tune will play.
You can have a different photo and song on each menu.

Email gets queued, but not sent until I login to my account on the server.
This is very strange. Let me explain.
1. Snow Leopard Server 10.6.2 running on an iMac.
2. I have the Mail Service running on the server. I can receive emails without problems.
3. Using my Snow Leopard Server email account, I attempt to send an email to another account (e.g. a mac.com email account).
4a. If I am actively logged into my Snow Leopard Server account *on the iMac* (e.g. via VNC, as long as my desktop is active), the email will arrive successfully. Here are the mail.log messages:

I'm very much at a loss here. It's as if the act of logging out (or fast user switching to the Login Window) suspends some process that is required for my email to process. But .... why?
Any ideas? Any additional information I can provide to help figure this out? Fwiw, I used to run Tiger Server (never tried Leopard Server) and never had this problem.
RobLooks to me like the anti-virus scanner, amavis. The clue is the line:
postfix/smtp[69038]: 942814AD55B: to=<[email protected]>, relay=127.0.0.1\[127.0.0.1\]:10024, delay=0.25, delays=0.1/0.01/0/0.14, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as C611B4AD568)
where the 10024 is the default port that Amavis runs on. Postfix is configured to pass mail through this port, and queues the mail until Amavis is available.
My guess, therefore, is that Amavis is set to run under your account rather than under the system, which is why it only runs when you're logged in. Off hand I have no idea how you managed this and that makes it hard to work out how to fix it. I'd start by looking for org.amavis.amavisd.plist in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons, /Library/LaunchDaemons and ~/Library/LaunchDaemons (it should be in the former, but if its in the latter that could explain it. -

I have version 5.7 and every time I opened it I was told that updates are available and to click on the icon to access these. Instead it just took me to the
adobe page with nowhere visible to update. I then sought to download lightroom cc and this is when I could not access the 'develop' section due to reduced
functionality It was apparent that my photos had been put in cc but no way to access them unless I wanted to subscribe.
I have since remedied the problem as my original lightroom 5.7 icon is still available on the desktop and have gone back to that. I do feel that this is a bit
of a rip off and an unnecessary waste of my time though.

I am also looking to get whether or not the document is open in a browser window which can be done with event.target.external, but I want it to happen without any user interaction and all the events that I tried while loading the document cause an error. I also tried xfa.host.name, but it always returns "Acrobat" whether the doc is in Reader or the browser, so I guess that is not it. If I put the call to event.target.external in a button, it works (I guess those libraries might not be initialized yet, they are legacy, but I don't know if there is an event that happens on load after that lib is initialized).
