Looking for a Dashboard Widget

Is there a Dashboard widget that will notify me when I receive responses on message boards, like this one for example so I don't have to check email?
Also, is there a good widget that can store my passwords for message boards as well?
thanks!

there are certainly no widgets like that for general board and there isn't one for this board. Apple discussions notifies only by email so whatever program you'd possibly want to use for notifications would have to tap into your email which means that your email client has to be open.

  • Support boards for developing dashboard widgets?  any response, please??

i don't mean to be a noodge, but 4 days ago i posted a simple request asking if i could get support here for some questions i had as regards some snags i ran into making dashboard widgets. while other people's questions about ruby/rails, c and objective c and even powerpoint (shouldn't that be in a microsquish support forum??) have been responded to.
all i want to know is, can anyone help me here or at least point me to other support boards that offer help for those developing dashboard widgets? is that too much to ask?
my original message i posted 4 days ago is below. i would appreciate response from anyone, please. i can't believe i'm the only person out here seeking support for my *.html, *.css and javascript files for dashboard widgets.
    hi,
i'm trying my hand at the most rudimentary of developing for mac os x - developing a dashboard widget, using html, css & javascript.
i'm trying to make a simple widget that uses the real audio plug-in in the system (if you downloaded real player) to play a local portland, oregon fm classical radio station, kbps-fm 89.9 (www.allclassical.org).
i'm running into some snags both in making the "i" info button flip the thing around (it was working before, but since i added in the code that makes the real player plug in work, no matter where i place the position of the "i" flipper, it doesn't show up), and in the graphics i'm trying to create for the widget.
should i seek help here? are there better boards/forums for mac os x dashboard widget creation i can go to, and if so, can anyone direct me there? i know about adc, and am a (free) member, but they don't have discussion boards there and i don't want to pay oodles in tech support just to get some basic javascript and css questions handled.
if anyone could please direct me to where i can ask these questions or help me out, please let me know. thanx.

You shouldn't take the lack of response as a personal insult The nature of these forums (fora?) is that people respond to those messages where they can help and don't respond when they can't help. FWIW I've got two unresolved questions dating back to Mar 17th!
In my opinion, the Developer forums would be absolutely ideal and on-topic places to discuss Widget development..... but it looks like very few experienced Widget developers hang out here, so any questions would most likely go unanswered. My own skill area in limited to Java so I can't help out with widgets. No doubt the other forum regulars are in a similar position.

  • How to search for a dashboard widget

Can someone tell me how to search the Dashboard site for a specific widget?
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/
The ridiculous thing is, I think I asked this same question within the past year and someone answered it. But I'll be damned if I can find the search button again. It just is not intuitive. And when a friend asks me how to do something and I need to tell them I have to ask on the Apple website it's sort of embarrassing.

Type in Dashboard or widget as well as the name or description of that widget into the text field at the top right of the page. Press Enter.

i posted this 4 days ago to the "Software Development 101" board here on apple support. absolutely no response. 7 people viewed it, none responded.
it's just a very simple question - can i get help here or could someone please point me towards support boards, on apple or third party, which can help me out with some snags i've run into in creating dashboard widgets? that's all, really.
any response and help would be appreciated.

Check the Apple Mailing Lists. There are several lists that might be interesting to you. There is even a "Dashboard-Dev" list. Usually the topics discussed in the mailing lists are much more in-depth than anything on these forums.
Before posting, make sure to use the archive search feature to check similar problems and/or solutions to try.
Sorry about not responding sooner. You message hit the "sweet spot" on Friday. I generally only check this forum during the (work) week due to boredom. Once I leave work for the week-end, I'm too busy programming on my Mac myself.

  • Looking for 'music player' widget to play songs dragged onto iWeb page

Has anyone found a 'music player' widget that can be embedded into an iWeb page, and that can then load and play the songs that have been dragged onto that page?
I have found several such widgets that can scan a URL for mp3 files, and I have successfully embedded each of those widgets into an iWeb page using the HTML Snippet, but none of them could find the mp3 files that I dragged onto the page, even though I supplied the widget with the URL for that page.

Wyodor, I just wanted to let you know that I am having a lot of fun with the WimpyPlayer, and I like the skin you sent me. Thank you so much.
I've been playing around with it. I had to reduce the height of the widget to fit on my webpage, but when I did, the text became too small to read, so instead, I went into the skin's jpeg and cut out the midsection of the playlist area. Then I had to readjust the playlist's number of lines displayed and its slider size to fit. I also changed the color scheme to match my webpage, and some of the Help tags. All in all, it looks great, and I am very happy with it.
The one feature I miss from when I was using iWeb's built-in QuickTime player is the ability to have a photo (such as an album cover) displayed with the music. Do you happen to know of any music players that enable you to attach a photo with each track or album?

  • Looking for Yahoo Calendar Widget

    Hi Folks,
I can't find a yahoo calendar widget..I found one that does email notification and news, but not calendar.
I use Yahoo Calendar, but find that I don't use my yahoo home page as much since I switched to Mac from windows.
I can is not worth anything to me since it does not synch wiht my Yahoo Calendar, so would like to check and add to my calendar via the dashboard..
    any suggestions?
Or, do I need to wait for the next os next year to make my own widget?
    thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, there is no official or non-official Yahoo calendar widget. And now that Yahoo has it's own competing widget platform (which used to be known as Konfabulator), I think it's unlikely that Yahoo will release any new official widgets for Dashboard.
However, as you noted, you (or someone else) could certainly write one. You might want to ask at the forums at dashboardwidgets.com and see if a developer is up to the task.

  • Looking for a specific widget

I was wondering if there is a widget that will do basically what The Activity Monitor does, namely display running processes. I would love to be able to hit F12 and have a list of my running apps showing me how much % of CPU is being used, rather than launching Activity Monitor or going into a terminal window.

One widget which is free and which I like is iStat pro. You can also choose to use iStat nano.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatnano.html
They both show the top 4 most consuming processes in CPU.

  • Looking for music ID Widget

I think it's a widget, anyway - could be an app.
I found this a while ago. It samples any music that's playing thru the microphone, and somehow comes up with the name of the song and any other info it can get.
Unfortunately, I seem to have lost it, and don't recall what it was called. I checked the list of music widgets, but didn't find it there either.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
    Thanks

    Is it called Tunatic?

  • Looking for calendar widget similar to androids

Im looking for a calendar widget similar to androids. Don't want to use google gmail

iOS does not support widgets.  However iOS ships with a default Calendar App and the Notification center integration of it.
So what exact features are you looking for?

  • No search feature for Dashboard widgets?

In Dashboard, when you click the Manage Widgets button at the bottom and then you click More Widgets in the Manage Widgets window, you are taken to Apples' official Dashboard Widgets web page at http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard.
At the bottom of the page, it says there are "3901 Dashboard Widgets" available. But oddly, there seems to be no search feature for the widgets.
There's a Widget Browser where you can drill down by category, but sometimes it's just easier to search for what you want.
There's a search field at the very top of the page in the navigation bar (just as there's one for this page, but that searches the whole Apple site, not just the widgets.
Is there a way to do a text search for Dashboard widgets?

I took a look and agree that there doesn't seem to be a way so you aren't just blind...unless we both are
The only thing I noticed is since all the widgits seem to reside in the same directory you could do a google search a la
    "widget I want site:http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/"
I suppose apple thinks most people don't commonly associate widgets by there actual name so categories are easier but it seems trivial just to throw in a search function with a nice little preview of each widget.
Maybe we just didn't look deep enough.

  • Looking for a certain calendar  app or widget

I had an LG Enlighten and loved the little calendar "widget" that I put on my home screen.  It showed upcoming events without having to touch anything.
I dropped and broke the screen and had to get a new phone.  I now have a Galaxy Stratosphere but it doesn't have the same calendar.  I miss the other and want it back!!  Yes, I just stamped my foot.  I'm very disorganized and that little widget/app really helped.  It was about the size of the "MyVerizon" data usage box.  Does anyone out there know which one I'm looking for????  Please help.  Thanks.

Most manufacturers include their own skin on top of Android and a lot of widgets that come pre-installed are part of these skins. That being said, if you search the Play Store for calendar widget you may find something similar.

  • Looking for simple timeline/calendar screenlet/widget.

    Good day gentlemen,
I'm looking for a simple screenlet or widget for linux that is a calendar, but designed to be more of a timeline of past events than a reminder of future events. For my specific purpose in this case I'm trying to lose weight. So I'm seeking an application to record my previous weight and other notes about what i ate, and how much and what kind of nutrients i had that day. I would like to keep it in a calendar or timeline like format. Something easy to the point where if my buddy asked me how much i weighed last week or what i did last week, i can simply click on the date and all my notes appear about my weight, and what i ate, etc. Also simple to input data like clicking on the date and entering a note about that day. Something easy to use and sort of integrated into the desktop such as a screenlet or widget, so I don't have to open up a separate window to view these records. I did a little research and was able to find a few things, Rainlendar being one of them. But I feel most of what i found are way more complicated for my purpose. Would any of you happen to have any suggestions on what application would most suit my purpose in its most simplistic form? thanks in advance for your kind and prompt response
    Sincerely,
    Sicariuxs

There are, apparently, quite a variety of tools just for this purpose.  here's one.  That was just the first one up from a search, I don't actually know anything about it.  But overall, I'd suggest you actually narrow your search as there are tools targetted specifically for such goals.

Accordion or Tabbed panel should to it, with click and open container.
Please provide site url where this does not work, also if you can provide an example where we can see the exact action then it would help us.

  • Looking for Internet Explorer Linkbar like widget

I am looking for a widget similar to the linkbar in InternetExplorer where if you have to many buttons to fit in the space it will add the little >> which you can press to get a list of all of the other choices. Has anyone seen anything like this in any opensource projects or have any suggestions on the best way to go about it?
    Thanks,
    ~Josh

If you make all the actions for your buttons Action objects, then you can add them to menu items as well. Then all you need to do is create a new JPopupMenu with those items in them. That part is easy. I'd imagine the trickier bit would be figuring out which buttons to put on the panel, and which ones to put on the menu bar. If you figure out the width of each button, this would be easy .. you'd just insert buttons until the next button you insert would be too big to fit, and if it doesn't fit, you add a new button ">>" which triggers the popup.
