Looking for a helpdesk system...

I'm looking for a web-based (preferably PHP) helpdesk system that can authenticate with Open Directory. Basically what I want is a means of tracking support cases based on user information. Something that can send out mass emails to users is ideal.
I've tried a few that have LDAP support (i.e. oneorzero), but it seems that Open Directory is just different enough from LDAPv3 that they don't work.
Can someone point me in the direction of such a system that can talk to Open Directory?
Thanks.

We have had this problem forever...
We even bought webhelpdesk (and would be happy to resell our license, if someone made that legal, for a huge discount) for this reason...
Ultimately, we used a two-pronged solution:
Drupal ( http://drupal.org ) CMS based on PHP, lots of modules for lots of capabilities. Mostly, we need a sort of blog + knowledgebase + survey tool + helpdesk for IT. It has almost all that (we didn't like the helpdesk, but it's a work in progress)... But, since it has LDAP logins and persistent users, we could add:
CerberusHelpdesk ( http://cerberusweb.com ) a PHP helpdesk (not free, but like... $300?). Cerberus is an email queue management system (no asset tracking, alas), but it's great for issue resolution! And, since it's based on email, we were able to create a helpdesk ticket submit form in Drupal that would email the ticket into Cerberus.
It sounds complicated, and it's definitely not the easiest* thing in the world, but it is simple, and functional for the helpdesk solution. I should also mention that Cerberus has* a submission/ticket viewing "customer" web addon that CAN use LDAP authentication - but we toyed with it, couldn't get it working, and gave up (we care more about the helpdesk team agents being LDAP-auth'd, but it can't do that yet, and wasn't a dealbreaker).
I'd also HIGHLY recommend an email based system that polls from a standard email account - that way, if your webserver dies, you can just reconfigure Mail/Thunderbird/whatever to directly access that account, and continue to serve your customers!
Good luck!

    Hi,
I could resolve the issue since there were lot of issues after system copy.
    1. During distribued to Cenrtal system - system copy.
You need to combine both DB and CI export copies in one folder during which one thing can happen.
SOURCE.PROPERTIES - this file will be there in DB export JAVA folder and also CI export JAVA folder where
DB SOURCE.PROPERTIES file doesn't have an entry of "src.ci.host". This will stop the SAPINST with error and after modifying the file "SOURCE.PROPERTIES" Traget System Copy finishes without any issue.
Then after this stage I encountered an issue with bind hosts entry in config tool which was due to virtual host name usage in my HACMP setup due to whcih JAVA gives a startup problem.
    I eliminated this issue also.
After JAVA started I faced an issue with XI related navigations.
ecchangeProfile url still had an entry of Production System. This may be a bug.
After changing that entry, exchangeProfile was downloaded but it had all the source system host entries which were manually changed.
Now I can access all the XI related navigations.
I need to also perfrom SGEN and Profiles import.
Do I need to change any additional settings after this so that my production and DR can work without any issue?
Do you have any additional checks which I can perfrom to ensure my DR systems consistency before I start the log shipping from Production?

  • Looking for a new system working with the adobe creative suite

    Hello everybody,
i was 6 years happy with my asus notebook series x55s for what I paid around 1000 €.
I worked until CS5 with it but now it is getting a little slow and I am looking for a new system.
I am considering buying an Imac such as
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC814LL/A/refurbished-imac-27-inch-31ghz-quad-core-intel -core-i5
but I never bought an apple computer, I am just used to edit on one from work and school
    or
buying an Asus Laptop again (f.g. the Asus N56VM)
    http://www.cnet.com/laptops/asus-n56vm-ab71-15/4505-3121_7-35544410.html which I found for around 900€
and a screen with 27 inch such as the Samsung Sync Master P2770 (around 250€)
I am mostly editing Full HD material from the Ex1 and DSLR on premiere CS5 and 6.
Since I am not that technically expert I would like to have some opinions/ suggestions of you regarding
    my thoughts.
I would like to spent up to 1600 €.

  • I am looking for Compact RIO system for PID control

    Hi all,
I am looking for the CompactRIO system for PID control.
My system acquires two input data (0-10V) from two displacement sensors and sends one output signal (0-10V) to piezo-actuator at every step. And my target is the short settling time and the low overshoot.
I think that I need fast control system. So I am interested in CompactRIO. But I am not familiar with this sytem. Could you recommend the good control system for me?
The one important thing is that the time limiting step of my system is Piezo actuator (it's natural freq is 20kHz.) CompactRIO is much faster than the Piezo-actuator. I am not sure whether CompactRIO is good to my system or not.
Here is the CompactRIO system which I am interested in:
    i) CompactRIO Reconfigurable Embedded System: cRIO-9004
    ii) CompactRIO Reconfigurable Chassis: cRIO-9101
    iii) I/O Module : AI : cRIO-9215 AO: cRIO-9263
    Thank you so much,
    Sungjin

    Hello Sungjin,
CompactRIO should work great for your PID control system. Those I/O modules are the correct voltage range and the 1M gate FPGA backplane will be plenty for a single PID controller. You'll probably be able to get loop rates around 100kHz for analog PID control.
Keep in mind that the LabVIEW FPGA module includes PID examples that will cut down your development time considerably.

    Vineet

  • Aspiring video editor looking for the best system!

I'm a young buck (as the old hands would call me) in the "prosumer" video industry. I've made a few short films with a cheap Panasonic point-and-shoot and Windows Movie Maker or Serif MoviePlus SE. First off, my camera: It's not overly great. Scratch that. It's pretty darn bad for what I want it to do. I end up having to modify my raw footage in post to make it look decent. Crappy framrates, the whole bit. I'm looking at a Sony NEX VG-20 camera (runs about $2100) which should last me for a long time due to the fact that it supports interchangeable lenses, so I can do more with different shots. It will also help me with still shooting as well. But that's not the point. I feel like I'm being held back by my software. And hardware too, for that matter. I'm currently doing all my editing on a Gateway PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. It's got a 2.9 gHz i3, 6GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive, and no dedicated graphics card. It's not bad in terms of speed, but it's a family computer so I can't use it whenever I need to, and I can't dedicate the hard drive totally to video and whatnot. But my biggest problem is software. Like I said, I've been using Windows Live Movie Maker. That's not a bad little app, but it's really limited in what it can handle. there's no timeline, just storyboard, so intricate editing tasks are essentially impossible. You also can't do much with audio. I've managed to make it work with some tricks I've learned since I started using it. For my last project I used Serif MoviePlus SE. This is also a free program, with some more adavanced tools for audio syncing and a more technical and useful interface and toolset. However, the output options are pathetic, and it insists on exporting my widescreen HD video in a 4:3 ratio instead of 16:9. It's rather annoying. Also, you can't use any transitions without having a huge watermark on your video for about 10 seconds. I thought about buying the full version, but I didn't know if that would be wise, since I'm not really sure what the full thing can do.
So thus began my search for a new system and software to make my movies. I originally was looking at building a PC for gaming and editing. then I realized that would be redundant, siince I already have an Xbox that I game on. So then I was looking at buying a pre-built PC, but that wasn't looking so good either. Then I did some surfing and found that the general consensus is that Mac's are better for creative design stuff like this anyway. Which led me here. I was looking at Final Cut Pro X, which looks perfect for my needs and budget. However, Macs tend to run expensive in comparison to PCs. But FCPX was really "calling me". So after looking at what exactly Macs can do, with Thunderbolt and such, I wanted some opinions: iMac? MacBook Pro? MBP with Retina? Mac Pro? I won't be able to afford anything for several months yet, therefore making this a potentially harder decision with the rumored release of new Mac Pros and iMacs. I need some opinions. No hurry,I'd like to try to keep the price of the computer under $2500. Thanks in advance for any opinions...

The top iMac compares favorably with the Mac Pro for the price, & 12 cores don't get used much outside of benchmarking...
    iMac "Core i5" 2.5 21.5-Inch (Mid-2011)... Geekbench: 7241/7970
    iMac "Core i5" 2.7 27-Inch (Mid-2011)... Geekbench:           7844/8565
    MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.5 17" Late 2011... Geekbench: 10706/11699
    iMac "Core i7" 3.4 27-Inch (Mid-2011)... Geekbench: 11648/12651
Mac Pro "Twelve Core" 2.66 (2010/Westmere)... Geekbench: 20294/22605
I'd say the 27" iMac with the Extra VRAM.

  • HT1338 my mac book pro is constantly "looking for networks" while connected using my home network and other wifi systems. how can i stop it?

Why is my Mac Book constantly "looking for networks" while i am using wifi?

If it is constantly searching for networks every five seconds or so, then it is the bluetooth - wifi problem discussed on other threads. I find that system preferences > network and clicking at the bottom on the 'Show wi-fi status in menu bar' button to switch it off, and then back onto the menu bar, solves the problem. Sometimes on waking I lose wi-fi completely and have to reload, but that's infrequent.
Hopefully Apple will come up with a solution soon.

  • I'm looking for a document management system

    Hi there,
I'm looking for a way to organize, sort, and make searchable about 1200 Microsoft Word Documents. The way our company uses them is to search for individual documents, and also to group them to create customized packets that are used for training.
Once a group is created, I need a way to print easily. The other problem is that 60% of the documents are designed for learning so they have an instructors filled in part, and a learners blank part.
Question 1: Should I separate each document, make the instructor version a separate file? Today, it is one file, with page 1 for the instructor and page 2 for the learner (some docs have more than one page.
Question 2: Does anyone know of a web plugin or app that will take a collection of word documents, and automatically combine them into 1?
2 years ago, we created a php searchable system and uploaded all docs into it. It workds pretty well for organizing, searching, grouping, and adding comments about the docs... BUT when it comes time to print, it only downloads a folder filled with all the SEPARATE word files. They are numbered, but because they are not one doc, page numbering is a bear, and each doc has a instructor and learner page... for printing, the trainer needs to tell the office staff which page to print for each handout. the instructor copy or leaner copy. Once a master is made, we photocopy it. So the question: Is there an easier way to create 1 file with all the pages? Like convert to PDF or to a single MS Word document?
    Any suggestions are welcome!
PS: while we are an all mac shop, we do have a dedicated webserver running linux that we could use.
PPS: I will have interns this summer, so if the solution involves converting all of our MS word docs into something else like pages, I'm all for it...

It sounds to me like DevonThink might just replace the php system that you already have.
One way to tackle this might be to look at automating the combining process, rather than changing the overall management system. Various thoughts:
If the docs were pdfs, a program like CombinePDFs would let you drag and drop all the files onto a screen, re-order them if necessary, and then hit Merge (actually, I think Preview would let you do this, in Leopard). That might help. However, I don't think it would put on page numbers.
I'm pretty sure Acrobat would let you combine the PDFs and add page numbers, or perhaps take the combined pdf file and just add page numbers to that. (Not sure if this might require Acrobat for Windows)
Alternatively, you could tweak the docs themselves so that they use a form of chapter numbering, eg: "PDF Introduction-1, PDF Introduction-2" and "PDF-Advanced-1, PDF-Advanced 2" and then not worry about the page numbers. I wouldn't exactly recommend this, as it's pretty useless to say "turn to page PDF-Intermediate 3" and have people find that page, but it's been done.
Since they are already Word docs, though, it might be best to stick with Word. Word 2008 has Automator and Applescript, and it should be possible to write an Automator or Applescript such you just drop the documents on an Automator app, and it combines them, adds or updates the page numbers, maybe creates a Table of Contents, and spits out an assembled document.
That said, I don't know how to do that. There is a Combine Word Documents automator action, certainly. You could try asking over in the Word forums:
    http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/Word/
Or here's a macro that should work in Word 2004 (but not 2008)
    http://www.gaebler.com/How-to-Combine-Multiple-Word-Documents-into-One-Document. htm
This will work best if all the docs are formatted consistently, based on the same template. If they are not consistently formatted, then the formatting will probably change when you combine them in Word, and that would be an argument for converting them to PDF before combining them. It should also be possible to create an Automator action that will convert all the docs in a folder to PDF.
I doubt there is going to be anyway to automate the instructor/learner copy--someone will have to do that manually, but it does suggest that if you create separate files for each one, it will be easier to do the search, download the found files from the resulting folder, and then manually just delete the learner file from the folder rather than having to open up the instructor file and delete part of it.
So, some potential experiments to try. Hope that helps.
Automator to convert the docs to PDF and then Acrobat to combine and number the pages might be your best bet.

There seems to be a problem, just now, with the USB 3 ports on the new MBP's supporting eternal USB 3 drives. Some people have no luck at all - can't even recognize the drive - and some are reporting USB 2 speeds (those who drives are recognized). I'd call a dealer such as LaCie or OWC to see if they have USB 3 drives that actually work with MBP's with USB 3 ports. You may have to wait for a software/firmware update.

  • Looking for shelf system that will work with 5th gen 8g Nano?

    Hi,
I'm looking for a shelf stereo system with integrated iPod dock that will work with my 5th gen 8 gig Nano that I received as a gift. I've been researching this and have a found a few candidates such as the JVC UX-GN8 or UX-LP5, or the SONY CMT-BX20i. But... have been unable to confirm if they work with this new 5th generation model. Anyone have one of those units, or something similar, that works? Also, is it true that the Apple Cradle ($49.99+cable) has some problems docking the 5th generation Nano in the sense that all the features are not accessible (audio, video, etc.)? Thanks for any and all responses.

have been unable to confirm if they work with this new 5th generation model.
If their websites do not specifically state that their product works with the *iPod Nano 5th Generation _with video,*_ its more likely their product is not compatible. You can try calling them if possible to confirm.
    Have you checked MacMall's website?

  • Looking for ideas for transferring large amounts of data between systems

    Hello,
I am looking for ideas based on best practices for transferring Large Amounts of Data in and out of a Netweaver based application.
We have a new system we are developing in Netweaver that will utilize both the Java and ABAP stack, and will require integration with other SAP and 3rd Party Systems. It is a standalone product that doesn't share any form of data store with other systems.
We need to be able to support 10s of millions of records of tabular data coming in and out of our system.
Since we need to integrate with so many different systems, we are planning to use RFC for our primary interface in and out of the system. As it turns out RFC is not good at dealing with this large amount of data being pushed through a single call.
We have considered a number of possible ideas, however we are not very happy with any of them. I would like to see what the community has done in the past to solve problems like this as well as how SAP currently solves this problem in other applications like XI, BI, ERP, etc.

Also run Dolphin from terminal to try and see what's the problem.
Hope that help at least a bit.
Could you explain why Dolphin should be slower? I'm not attacking you, I'm just asking.
Cause I thought that Dolphin is just a „little" wrapper around the cp/mv/cd/ls applications/commands.

  • System/Query Performance: What to look for in these tcodes

    Hi
I have been researching on system/query performance in general in the BW environment.
I have seen tcodes such as
    ST02 :Buffer/Table analysis
    ST03 :System workload
    ST03N:
    ST04 : Database monitor
    ST05 : SQL trace
    ST06 :
    ST66:
    ST21:
    ST22:
    SE30: ABAP runtime analysis
    RSRT:Query performance
RSRV: Analysis and repair of BW objects
For example, Note 948066 provides descriptions of these tcodes but what I am not getting are thresholds and their implications. e.g. ST02 gave “tune summary” screen with several rows and columns (?not sure what they are called) with several numerical values.
Is there some information on these rows/columns such as the typical range for each of these columns and rows; and the acceptable figures, and which numbers under which columns suggest what problems?
Basically some type of a metric for each of these indicators provided by these performance tcodes.
Something similar to when you are using an Operating system, and the CPU performance is  consistently over 70%  which may suggest the need to upgrade CPU; while over 90% suggests your system is about to crush, etc.
I will appreciate some guidelines on the use of these tcodes and from your personal experience, which indicators you pay attention to under each tcode and why?
    Thanks
