Looking for a Microsoft products compatibility matix and AD functional levels.

I need to upgrade the AD Forest Functional level from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2. A products compatibility matrix would be a big help.
Both domain controllers are Windows 2008 R2.
Forest Functional Level - Windows 3003.
Domain Functional Level - Windows 2008 R2
We have an old SharePoint Services 2.0 server and I need to know if changing the Forest Level will break the SharePoint site.
Additionally, we have MSSQL 2005 and 2008.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cannot enable "Updates for other Microsoft products" on WSUS client

i cannot enable the checkbox "Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows" ("Microsoft update" instead of "Windows update"). If I enable it and press ok, the GUI stalls a bit and the check is removed.
Installing updates from the wsus server works. The client is a 2012 R2 install.
From Windows updatelogs, it is clear the client attempt to connect to <HTTPS://sls.update.microsoft.com/SLS/{9482F4B4-E343-43B6-B170-9A65BC822C77}/x64/6.3.9600.0/0?CH=521&L=en-US&P=&PT=0x7&WUA=7.9.9600.17404> when I try to enable

This is not allowed by firewall/proxy, so this obviously fails.This server is located in a secured vlan and should not have access to internet in any way. I suppose client should fetch the .cab from wsus?

I can set the cab path myself if I use
vbscript to register the microsoft update service, but I don't know which cab url I should use for this.
I've used the same install image before, but I think all servers had access to internet (via proxy) when doing the first windowsupdate. this is no longer allowed. the image is an MDT installation image that attempt to enable the Microsoft update setting
with vbs as described in link above.
Please advice how to resolve this issue.

Well, no, not really. Presumably there is no need to do so. The two environments use completely different classification methodologies which have almost zero relationship to one another.
The issue is this is checked for in the server security audit, all servers have this setting, but this one hasn't. I will need to be able to motivate/proof this point to our security department.
I would say your security department maybe needs to do some of their own self-education on how Microsoft's patch management system has worked for the past twenty years, and more recently, how it has worked with SUS/WSUS for the past eleven years. This is not
new stuff! :-)
Also odd is that on this server I only have one service in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\RequestedAppCategories.
Don't really know much about what's in the ~\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate key either as it's also irrelevant to the WSUS environment.

I went into it and searched for imovie but couldn't find the basic imovie, which I presume is what I'd need for editing?, rather than imovie 11 for £10.49, which is for making trailers, it seems. I'm guessing that you'r not buying a new edition of the Adobe Suite 5.5.
Apparently Adobe haven't been awake to make sure the 5.5 is 100% compatiable with Lion. However, I do believe it's only a few minor troubles you will experince and Adobe constantly update their software to adjust to Lion.
You should go to Adobe.com and see the list of known issues.

I bought a new ENVY and spent more time troubleshooting 'NO INTERNET CONNECTION' 90% of the time. After spending HOURS on the phone with HP SUPPORT and resetting router and adapter over and over, the issue came back! Everyone elses laptops in the house connected just fine. I finally got so ticked I did a recovery...BIG MISTAKE since it deleted many apps however, I'm not getting the NO internet connection anymore. Now I have to do a backup of files and a reset. The HP tech wanted to sell me another warranty that "included cracked screen" coverage. He said the 2 yr warranty didn't cover it and the longer I waited the more it would cost. After reading your post I am confused...does the 2 yr warranty cover it or not? Sorry to hear about your issues as it must be extremely frustrating...I'd be upset!

Things to be considered before AD - domain and forest functional level upgrade (win 2003 to 2008 R2)

Recently we introduced Windows 2008 R2 DCs and decommissioned old Windows 2003 domain controllers. Since we are not sure about the application compatibility (both MS and 3rd party) many times we postponed the plan to upgrade the DFL and FFLs. We found Jonathan's
blog (http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2011/06/14/what-is-the-impact-of-upgrading-the-domain-or-forest-functional-level.aspx),
whcih clearly says the upgrade won't affect any applications. But just to confirm this with the experts we are posting this concern once again. We have Exchange 2010 / Shrepoint / SQL / SAP etc..(also 2 X windows 2000 servers)
Please let us know from your real experiance - in production environment how a upgrade from 2003 to 2008 R2 (belive we can able to upgarde both FFL and DFLs from Win 2003 to Win 2008 R2) affects existing applications.

I might be able to help with Exchange. What service pack?
Most likely, there should be no problem. The Exchange compability matrix shows that (with SP2 and SP3) it is compatible with Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers and 2008 R2 domain and forest functional levels.
I'm *working on* an Exchange 2010 migration but if you want someone who *has* such a combination (2008 R2 DFL/FFL and Exchange 2010), you could ask in the Exchange forum.
I'm sure, though, that such a combination is actually quite common.

Upgrading Forest and Domain Functional level

If I have a mixed machines (Win2k3, Win 2k8 and Win2k12) and if I want to raise the forest and functional level to win2k12. Can I still have Win2k3 and Win2k8 machines as a member server? If yes, what would be the effect on the functionality of the machines?
To give you info win2k3 are used for internal webservers and Win2k8 is use as a DFS server.

That said, you might have some applications running on those servers, which matches a specific domain version. Listing attributes in a certain order, expecting a certain name etc.

What to look for when purchasing a new heatsink and fan?

I bought a Phenom II 970 and its fantastic, but the stock cooling system seems to be very loud and really not get much done. I dont like it at all, but before I spend more money on newegg or at my local computer parts store, what should I look for in a new cooler?
I honestly do not even know where to start! I know I have an AM3 socket, so as Im browsing the heat-sinks on Newegg I saw 6 socket types that all said AM3, Im so confused!
I dont have a specific price range in mind, just know I am looking for a good value. This is difficult when I have no idea what makes it good or less good.

Most, if not all the aftermarket coolers come with mounting brackets for most of the current boards.
I have had good results with my Arctic Cooling products. Zalman air coolers are another excellent option, but your budget will determine which one to get.

There will always be a compromise between price, efficiency and noise. I don't know the model you linked, but whatever you consider, do some research first.

Looking for help to upgrade Z61m HD and OS

Being a layman I am looking for some help on how to do the following:
- Upgrade my current HD from the small 105gig to a new 320 gig HD - have the new SATA drive.
- Also wanting to get off of Vista to Windows7 - I have the new Windows 7 ulimate software.
Looking for procedures on how to upgrade(back up data, make boot disks, when to upgrade the OS.....) and not lose my data. I own a 500 gig external HD with plenty of room. Any pitfalls and gotchas are apreciated too.

I did a quick google and found some Windows-based programs you could buy to do that, but nothing for the Mac.
However, you ought to be able to do it in word (I do when I have to print chords w/ lyrics to play with a group). You just have to fiddle with the space bar and tab to line up the chord changes with the lyrics.
It might be easier if you use a fixed-width font like Courier.

I own a small lawncare/landscape bus and am looking for something when i get done with a job i can pull up the clients record and just click if they have paid or were billed. And when i get checks in the mail that i can just click the same thing, that they have paid. I am looking for a specific Desktop PC. Similar to M73 ThinkCenter in size, but needs to have 3-4x HDMI inputs. This computer will run digital menus for restaurants/coffeeshops 24/7. The M73 has display ports but we are looking to move away from having to buy display ports to just plugging directly into the computer through HDMI.
