Looking for a "Super Project" feature

First, you will have to excuse me if this is the wrong forum for this. I just couldn't find any specific forum for Java project-build/management.
Now, I'm looking for some sort of a feature/ability/plug-in, especially for Eclipse, which resembles this:
Super projects - a combination of several projects under the same organizational structure. It doesn't refer to a new technology, nor a new feature of Java. It only refer to a way of organizing your projects.
A reason to have such thing, in case you were wondering, is to standardize the use of certain projects, all closely-related (technically and logically) to a certain system, but aren't related enough to exist in the same project.
For an example, let's say we have a certain system. It has a main project, which is the core of the system. Then, we have another project, which allows monitoring our system. It isn't a project that could be under the core-project, as it has too many differences (both technical and logical), but it uses lots of the same libraries, abilities and external resources the core-project uses as well (for example, a jar which allows a more comfortable use of JDBC, or just a configuration file), and of course still logically related to the core-project.
Therefore, those two projects, the core and the monitor, should be under the same super project - sharing libraries, abilities and external resources.
So how should it look like? Well, here are several ideas:
- First of all, a certain way to view those projects as being under the same super-project.
- An option (and warning-display if possible) of sharing jars. Instead of linking a certain jar to each project separately, a jar will be defined as shared, and could be shared by some or all of the projects in the super-project.
- Same thing with any other file (such as resource files).
- A meta-data file, containing information of which projects are in the super-project, what jars (or any other file) are being used, and what's the version of each of those jars.
- Comfortable save/load of those projects together, and their shared files (nothing more then a super directory with "Projects" directory for the projects in the super project, and a "Shared" directory for all the shared jars and other files).
I'll repeat myself - I'm not talking about a new technology, but just a feature, or a plug-in.
So, are you familiar of anything resembling that? or something at least in production stage?

Well, I didn't figured how the idea of a super-project, or several combined projects works with Maven. I guess it's because this tool is filled with many options, and there's no good documentation that I've found which simply explains what's every thing is (or maybe I'm just dumb).Having just recently taken the dive into real development with Maven recently (I've been dabbling before), I too have the feeling that the documentation (especially for the rough overview and getting-into-it) is somehow lacking, in many areas. The documentation is much better suited for finding specific information when you already know what exactly you want it Maven to do.
That being said: I strongly suggest you invest the time to get over that first hurdle, because in my opinion it's definitely worth it.
Anyway, it seems I'm looking for something more simple and straightforward.Out of curiosity: If it should be simple and straightforward, what artifacts would you expect such a product/technology to produce? What would you use it for?
Maven uses that big pile of metadata about your project for building your project from source, managing your dependencies, deploying your artifacts to a defined repository, running your tests and many other things as well.
Having something "simple and straightforward" would almost seem like a waste of effort, because with that kind of meta-data you can do much bigger things.
Edit: I just remembered [Apache Ivy|http://ant.apache.org/ivy/]: it's a dependency-management task for ant. This means that it handles the same task of a (very small) subset of Maven, but it a lot simpler to use (if you already know and use ant). It doesn't do any sub-projects or anything like that, but might be a more gentle introduction into the world of post-ant build/project/configuration management.

  • Photographer moving from CS3 to CS5.5 looking for discussion of new features

    Hi,
I'm a photographer (not retoucher or designer). Just moved over to CS5.5 from CS3 due to the price changes that will happen in the next upgrade. I'm finding the changes quite difficult to navigate. I know there's lots of info out there, but really, there's too much! I'm looking for a good discussion, video, print, whatever, of the main changes in workflow between the versions. I'm pretty old school in my PS use. I use Curves a lot, set skin tones with CMYK numbers etc. My work flow is probably closest to that used by many beauty retouchers. One of the big changes thats throwing, me for instance, is that I can no longer simply cmd click on a eyedropper target on skin then cmd 1, 2, 3 on the RGB curves layers to set points to adjust colour.
Links, suggestions of video's etc much appreciated.

One of the big changes thats throwing, me for instance, is that I can no longer simply cmd click on a eyedropper target on skin then cmd 1, 2, 3 on the RGB curves layers to set points to adjust colour.
In the Adjustments Panel it’s alt-2 (composite) and alt-3 (red), alt-4 (green), alt-5 (blue) to select the individual channels now.
And command-shift-click to set the points on the R-, G- and B-curves.
You may want to consider setting the Adjustments Panel to »Auto Select Targeted Adjustment Tool«.
One can still trigger the old modal dialog via a Script, but it might be better to just get accustomed to the Adjustments Panel.
You may be able to download the Help as pdf for CS4 and CS5, their respective »What’s new?«-sections should provide an overview of the accumulated new features.

It is the red card with pictures inside the ornaments. I have iPhoto version 6.06 and it is not part of the available themes and designs. If anyone can direct me to where I can find this design, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

I have it in my iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.1) card library
You are posting in the iPhoto '08 forum - maybe this is reason to upgrade to iLife '08 -- or post the question in the iPhoto 06 forum, you are much more likely to get help on version 6 in the version 6 forum

Hoping to take the Forms certifcation next month and as prep would like to do a fairly complex Forms 10g project. This would not include Java as this is not part of the 1Z0-141 forms exam. Does anyone know of a resource anywhere on the net that is freely accessible which i could use. Any suggestions welcome.

That looks not too bad and is something that i could definitely use Francois. If there is anyone else with other resources i would like to hear from them. Something along the lines of a College type project but leaving java out of the picture.

  • Looking for list of new features in 11.2

I have been trying to find a list of the new features, if any, that have been released with 11.2. Would anyone have a link the new features documentation?
    thanks
    R.

The first link below is to the 11.2 new features guide. The second link below is supposedly the 11.2 new features for Oracle Text, however the only new features listed are for 11.1 and prior, so it appears that either there aren't any new Text features in 11.2 since 11.1 or they left them out.

  • Looking for open source project in JSF for learning

    Hi,
I am quite a beginner to JSF, I think it will be good to read some existing source code, could anyone recommend some projects that I can turn to? I am particual interested in an online text editor.
I think currently I could understand how the jsf works, its relationship with jsp, html, css,and how It could cooperate with AJAX. and I have written a small amount of web pages , which were aimed at providing a blog-publish like service. That's why I am interested in online text editor. But any other capable project would be also helpful for me.
    Thanks.

You can find (simple) samples here:

You can find a HTML/rich text editor as JSF component in the Mojarra Scales component library: [https://scales.dev.java.net/htmlEditor.html].

  • Teststand 3.0 Deployment looking for a file(glang.chm) in a wrong path

    Hi, Please help
i just try deploy an installer using TestStand 3.0. it can successfully process the workspace file,  But, when the TestStand deployment tool try to build the installer, it keep looking for one of project file(glang.chm) in a wrong path, the error message is following, see the attachment for the screen shot
    Error Code:7
Could not process LabVIEW VIs. Fix any broken VIs before rebuilding. LabVIEW error:
    C:\MVS 2\data\data\data\glang.chm - source does not exist
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
i understand that it is looking for glang.chm in "C:\MVS 2\data\data\data\", but in my project, glang.chm actually is under "C:\MVS 2\data\". In order to make it works, i need to create the path "C:\MVS 2\data\data\data\" and copy glang.chm into the path.
My question is: How to change the setting in TestStand deployment tool, so that it would look for glang.chm in corrected path"C:\MVS 2\data\", not in "C:\MVS 2\data\data\data\" ?

Well, David's solution works as expected. It copies the the pristine .lnk file from the startup menu to the desktop.
This .lnk file will start only the operator interface testexec.exe without loading any sequence.
Now I did try a modification. I did create a .lnk file, which loads the sequence file automagically by providing the right commandline arguments to testexec.exe. This .lnk file works on the development system either I start it from desktop or from some normal directory with the explorer.
And now I try to add that .lnk file to the deployed files like all other deployed files by adding it to some project in the workspace, which is configured to be used in the deployment wizard. That doesn't work.
    If there is a 2kb "MySequence.lnk" in t
he development tree, you will also find a "MySequence.lnk" in the Image tree at the expected position. But this is 1396 kb big, which is just the size of testexec.exe ( Labwindows/CVI version) where the .lnk file did point to. And the properties (commandline) of that .lnk file became empty.
Other "normal" files in the same directory, which are also included in the deployment, are copied without any coruption into the Image tree into the same directory as the corupted .lnk file.
The installer will install the corupted .lnk file to the desired position without problems. And copying it with post.bat to the desktop is also no problem.
