Looking for some shortcut's in Oracle SQL developer
1- How to view a table's script. ( without going on the table in schema)
2- Single record view , from the output of select query result. ( without rightclick on the result and selecting single record view....too much cumbersome)
1- You can't, but you can request to add the DDL tab to the popup describe dialog (Shift-F4 on the table's name in the worksheet). Look on the Exchange if it's requested already. If it is, cast your vote, else add it yourself.
2- Don't think so, but it could be added to the accelerators. See the Exchange again...

K.

Looking for some help with using Oracle stored procedures in vb2010
First off thank you to whoever lends me a hand with my problem. A little background first I am in a software development class and we are currently building our program using VB (I have no experience in this), and Oracle(currently in a Oracle class so I know how to use Oracle itself just not with VB).
I am using vb2010 express edition if that helps. Currently I have a stored procedure that takes a 4char "ID" that returns a position (ie, salesperson,manager ect). I want to use the position returned to determine what vb form is displayed (this is acting as a login as you dont want a salesperson accessing the accountants page for payroll ect).
Here is the code I have currently on the login page of my VB form
Imports Oracle.DataAccess.Client
Imports Oracle.DataAccess.Types
Public Class Login
Dim conn As New OracleConnection
Private Sub empID_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles empID.Click
End Sub
Private Sub LoginBtn_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LoginBtn.Click
conn.ConnectionString = "User ID = Auto" & _
";Password = ********" & _
";Data Source = XE"
conn.Open()
Dim sq1 As String = "Return_Position" 'name of procedure
Dim cmd As New OracleCommand(sq1, conn)
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
cmd.Parameters.Add(New OracleParameter("I_EmpID", OracleDbType.Char, 4)).Value = Emp_ID.Text
Dim dataReader As OracleDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader
dataReader.Read()
Dim position As New ListBox
position.Items.Add(dataReader.GetString(0)) 'were I am getting an error, I also tried using the dataReader.getstring(0) to store its value in a string but its a no go
If position.FindStringExact("MANAGER") = "MANAGER" Then
Me.Hide()
Dim CallMenu As New Menu()
CallMenu.ShowDialog()
End If
LoginBtn.Enabled = False
End Sub
I have read the oracle.net developer guide for using oracle in vb2010 and have successfully gotten through the document however they never use a stored procedure, since the teacher wants this program to user a layered architecture I cannot directly store sql queries like the document does, thus the reason I want to use stored procedures.
This is getting frustrating getting stuck with this having no background in VB, I could easily do this in c++ using file i/o even through it would be a pain in the rear....Hello,
I am calling Oracle 11g stored procedures from VB.Net 2010. Here is a code sample (based on your code) you should be able to successfully implement in your application.
Please note that you may have to modify your stored procedure to include an OUT parameter (the employee position) if it doesn't have it yet.
Private Sub LoginBtn_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LoginBtn.Click
Dim sProcedureName As String = "Return_Position" 'name of stored procedure
Dim ORConn as OracleConnection, sConn as String
Dim sPosition as String, sDataSource as String, sSchema as String, sPWD as String
Dim cmd As OracleCommand
'please provide below sDataSource, sSchema and sPWD in order to connect to your Oracle DB
sConn = "Data Source=" & sDataSource & ";User Id=" & sSchema & ";Password=" & sPWD & ";"
ORConn = New OracleConnection(sConn)
ORConn.Open()
cmd = New OracleCommand(sProcedureName, ORConn)
With cmd
.CommandType = Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure
'input parameter in your stored procedure is EmpId
.Parameters.Add("EmpID", OracleDbType.Varchar2).Value = Emp_ID.Text
.Parameters.Item("EmpID").Direction = ParameterDirection.Input
'output parameter in your stored procedure is Emp_Position
.Parameters.Add("Emp_Position", OracleDbType.Varchar2).Direction = ParameterDirection.Output
.Parameters.Item("Emp_Position").Size = 50 'max number of characters for employee position
Try
.ExecuteNonQuery()
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message)
Exit sub
End Try
End With
sPosition = cmd.Parameters.Item("Emp_Position").Value.ToString
'close Oracle command
If Not Cmd Is Nothing Then Cmd.Dispose()
Cmd = Nothing
'close Oracle connection
If Not ORConn Is Nothing Then
If not ORConn.State = 0 Then
ORConn.Close()
End If
ORConn.Dispose()
End If
ORConn = Nothing
If UCase(sPosition) = "MANAGER" Then
Me.Hide()
Dim CallMenu As New Menu()
CallMenu.ShowDialog()
End If
LoginBtn.Enabled = False
End Sub
If you need further assistance with the code, please let me know.

Looking for some people to start a flash developer group.
I have just started using flash at the beginning of the year and am getting alot better. I am trying to find people to start a group so we can help eachother out and do multiple developer projects. If you are interested e-mail me at [email protected] Thanks.
I have an idea for a product service offering that could revolutionize the way the business is done on the internet. The plan is to get 10 qualified, creative individuals to bring this software product to life. Each person involved would be given a percent of the company as payment of the work done. I obviously do not want to go into great detail about the systems that I invision but I can tell you that it would be a bottom up rethink of how people view transactions, personalization, gobalization and security on the web. If you are still interested let me know. Once I get enough people interested I am going to setup an online chat to get into more detail and then begin the selection process of who the 10 co-founders will be.

Your answer is about the function to database, or for the client, because i have the trouble with the client, i used Oracle sql Developer (the last version put in oracle) in windows 7
ok, but how i found the listener o the tsnames, because i searching in all disk (c) but i dont found them, or how i can turn on the listener o whe is the directory when i put the files, because the installation dont have the /network/adm for put the files
Edited by: user13373417 on 07-Jul-2010 09:06It appears you don't have a very clear understanding of how the client and the server are configured to communicate with one another.
============
A couple of important points.
First, the listener is a server side only process. It's entire purpose in life is to receive requests for connections to databases and set up those connections. Once the connection is established, the listener is out of the picture. It creates the connection. It doesn't sustain the connection. One listener, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.
Second, the tnsnames.ora file is a client side issue. It's purpose is for address resolution - the tns equivalent of the 'hosts' file further down the network stack. The only reason it exists on a host machine is because that machine can also run client processes.
Assume you have the following in your tnsnames.ora:
larry =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = curley)
)Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
$> sqlplus scott/tiger@larrytns will look in your tnsnames.ora for an entry called 'larry'. Next, tns sends a request to (PORT = 1521) on (HOST = myhost) using (PROTOCOL = TCP), asking for a connection to (SERVICE_NAME = curley).
Where is (HOST = myhost) on the network? When the request gets passed from tns to the next layer in the network stack, the name 'myhost' will get resolved to an IP address, either via a local 'hosts' file, via DNS, or possibly other less used mechanisms. You can also hard-code the ip address (HOST = 123.456.789.101) in the tnsnames.ora.
Next, the request arrives at port 1521 on myhost. Hopefully, there is a listener on myhost configured to listen on port 1521, and that listener knows about SERVICE_NAME = curley. If so, you'll be connected.
What can go wrong?
First, there may not be an entry for 'larry' in your tnsnames. In that case you get "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" No need to go looking for a problem on the host, with the listener, etc. If you can't place a telephone call because you don't know the number (can't find your telephone directory (tnsnames.ora) or can't find the party you are looking for listed in it (no entry for larry)) you don't look for problems at the telephone switchboard.
Maybe the entry for larry was found, but myhost couldn't be resolved to an IP address (say there was no entry for myhost in the local hosts file). This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe there was an entry for myserver in the local hosts file, but it specified a bad IP address. This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe the IP was good, but there is no listener running: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, but it is listening on a different port. "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, it is listening on the specified port, but doesn't know about SERVICE_NAME = curley. "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor" -

Hi I'm looking for some keyboard shortcut that are Mac but I want PC. Here they are:
ATL + shift + l
ATL + q
ATL + a
ATL + shift + e
ATL + z
ATL + x
ALT + SHIFT + g
ALT + SHIFT + f
they are for mac I them would like for pc... Thank youAh, thanks. Goes to show how carefully I look at keyboards these days...
So Opt(alt) on the Mac should map to Alt on PC.
It would actually be helpful if the OP told us waht the shortcuts were meant to do...
And there's always the help files. A complete list of default shortcusts is at http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/default-keyboard-shortcuts.html -
Looking for some advice dealing with Kernel Panics
Hi there! I'm looking for some help regarding constant kernel panics I've been getting on my machine. It has been happening pretty regularly for the last month or so, occuring sometimes three times in one day and other times none. I've been looking to see what might cause the issue and have thus far come up emptyhanded. I can't think of anything I've modified recently that would be causing the issue. I performed a hardware test using AHT and no errors were found. I've included both the most recent report from the panic as well as the EtreCheck report. Any and all advice is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

The problem is likely due to the discreet GPU failing. Download gfxCardStatus 2.3 and use it to disable the GPU. This is a temporary workaround until you get your motherboard replaced.
Possible other causes are the software that installed these:
com.splashtop.driver.SRXFrameBufferConnector 1.5
com.avatron.AVExFramebuffer 1.7
com.splashtop.driver.SRXDisplayCard 1.5
com.avatron.AVExVideo 1.7
Now they may be causing panics because the try to use acceleration in the GPU which leads to the panics. You are unlucky to have a particular model that has a real problem with this. -

Oracle SQL Developer for OSX not able to compile/execute/handle packages?
Hi,
Have been stuck with this for quite some mins now,
When I execute this simple -valid- create package statement in Oracle SQL Developer:
http://www.pastebin.ca/757859
It shows it's not compiled and has errors, when I check the Packages part in Oracle SQL Developer I see this:
http://www.pastebin.ca/757860
The ; after end has been removed by the application. In fact this means I can't do anything with packages in Oracle SQL Developer for OSX?
Is this a known bug?
Or am I doing something wrong?
Any resolving response to this matter would be really appreciated.Yeah, that bug is in there since stoneage, and is really a no-brainer to fix. Until they don't, we'd be losing time recompiling.
FWIW, everything works fine using the procedure editor for creating, editing and compiling.

Differences between TOAD for Oracle and Oracle SQL Developer?
Does someone know the advantages and disadvantages of using TOAD for Oracle and Oracle SQL Developer?
I work making reports with TOAD, but in a few days I will have to use the SQL Developer (because it´s free) unless I justify the necessity of using TOAD.
Could some that used both compare them?
Thanks,
Facundo.Hello Facundo,
since we are rolling out new client PCs we switch from Toad to SQL Developer. Therefore I'm doing some training for the "normal" users and our developers.
Most users simply want to have access to the data in tables and views. For those there are 2 main issues:
- Filters get lost when exiting table while sorting is still applied. Since there is no way to apply filtering before entering the data tab this can become a great performance issue because sorting is applied to many many rows. For views it is sometimes impossible to open the data tab.
- Exporting date values to Excel needs some know how if you want to sort by this column in Excel, because the date is formatted as "Standard" meaning that the sorting is done as for a text column: 01.01.2009 is less than 02.01.2008. Here you have to use a workaround column with a formula (=1*<datecolumn>)
The greatest Pro is the easy sharing of connections and reports by XML files.
Our developers like the easy debugging in SQL Developer. Though they miss the feature that the source is compiled for debug automatically as in Toad. For this we have distributed a script that compiles any PL/SQL object for debugging.
There are only some Toads installed for DBAs and for users that need access to tables protected by policies that require authentification by OS user since this information is not passed under every circumstance.

Is it possible to query software inventory report for Oracle SQL developer installation?
Hi all
My company requires to generate a report of all kinds of Oracle database access tool. I can find Toad installation from Add/Remove Program and therefore can query for Toad.
However, Oracle SQL developer is using Java. I cannot see an entry for Oracle SQL developer from Add/Remove Program. Is there a way to query inventory for Oracle SQL developer installation?
Thanks a lot.
Regards
LicYou might be able to use software inventory to report on the version of sqldeveloper.exe.
As the app looks like just a zip you extract to a custom location that might be one method. -
Looking for different audit events in Oracle Linux
Hi,
I am looking for different audit events in Oracle Linux. I did lot of googling but could not find anything relevant. Can you please share some doc/info if you have.
Thanks,
RaviYou can probably spent all day searching in https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/ or http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/index.html for information about this topic. Finding relevant information appears to be difficult.
The information you are looking for is about configuring the Linux Audit subsystem. There are some rules examples in /usr/share/doc/audit*
I found the following link in Google that seems to provide a reasonable overview:
http://dgz.dyndns.org/mediawiki/index.php/%28RHEL%29_HOWTO_configure_the_auditing_of_the_system_%28auditd%29 -
How the transactional replication work for simple recovery database (looking for some internal concept)
RahulThere seems to be a new myth going around recently. I’ve had at least three people tell me, in the last month, that SQL’s transactional replication requires the database to be in full recovery.
This is complete fabrication. Replication (SQL native replication, that is) can work with the databases in any of the recovery models.
Transactional replication does involve the transaction log, as that’s where it picks up changes from. The log reader scans over the transaction log looking for log records marked for replication, copies those to the distribution database and then marks them
as replicated. When the checkpoint (for simple recovery) or log backup (for full or bulk logged) occur, the log will only be truncated up to the oldest inactive, replicated transaction.
Because transactional replication has its own way of ensuring log records aren’t discarded before been picked up by the log reader, there’s no requirement for a specific recovery model.

Looking for some assistancte in GUI_DOWNLOAD
Hi there,
See I have this exercise I have to do here. Basically I have to create a program that will download the contects of SBOOK to my pc. I have to use GUI_DOWNLOAD in this exercise. Also, the user will have to input the path and file name of the file to be downloaded to. I have place appropriate error message on the screen as well but I'm not sure how to do this.Being relatively new to this, I tried looking for some samples and this is what I came up so far.
REPORT ZISTANZS_TRNG_EX9C.
TABLES: SBOOK.
PARAMETERS: FILEINP(30) DEFAULT 'c:\TEMP\wee.txt' OBLIGATORY.

FILETYPE = 'ASC'
write_field_separator = 'X'
TABLES
DATA_TAB = ITAB
EXCEPTIONS
FILE_OPEN_ERROR = 1
FILE_WRITE_ERROR = 2
OTHERS = 3.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work though. It keeps saying that my FILENAME is not the same data type as FILEINP? I'm asking for some assistance in how this can be properly solved? Any help would be appreciated /Hi,
