I am brand new to UCS. I am getting quotes from Cisco on new UCS system. About a year ago we got quotes for this system to add to next years budget and on this quote there is a new item and that is about 10K for UCS support package.
In reading about this it sounded like this was for really large environments.
Our environment is going to be one chassis and 8 blades. 5 of the blades will be used for Hyper V cluster which is managed by SCVMM and orchestrator for automation. In a few years we may look into getting another system for failover site.
Changes on VM environment are not frequent. About 100 VMs

In your environment (almost static), UCS Manager (which doesn't require a license, bundled with fabric interconnect) is ok.
UCS Director (the name is misleading) allows automatic provisioning and automation of the infrastructure (Ethernet and Fibrechannel switches, UCS, storage).
In your case with a Windows Hyper-V environment, I would recommend to look into Powershell / Powerscripts. UCS has a library of around 1800 commandlets; its free of charge.
Everything you can do with GUI (UCSM), can be done with PS scripts.

ok, what you're learning right now is 101 unix, which is good. Unix is a good thing
now: the way unix works, and macos (which uses unix underneath) the files and folders work like a hierarchy.
the start of that tree is /
so, if you were to do:
cd /
(cd means change directory)
it will bring you at the highest branch of the file system.
cd /Users
will bring you to where all the users are.
to see whats in /Users you can use your friend ls command
ls means list files/directories
so:
cd /Users
ls -la
(the -la here means show all (even hidden) and long format (very verbose)) this flag is very optional.
you will see
fred
user2
for example.
if you want to see the desktop of user2 you would change directory to it then list the files.
for example:
cd /Users/user2/Desktop
Note that the files and directory are case sensitive, so, desktop is NOT the same as Desktop, or DESKTOP
ls -la
you should then be able to see everything in users2 desktop
you could have done as well the same thing in smaller steps, for example:
cd /
cd Users
cd user2
cd Desktop
this is the equivalent of cd /Users/user2/Desktop
So, for your file, i don't know where it was, but know that if you log in as user2, it will directly put you in
/Users/user2
which most likely the file you had created from the other user was in /Users/user1
if you copied all the files from /Users/original_user to /Users/secondUser
most likely yes, all your mail, bookmarks etc would be copied over.
so in your case.
sudo chown -R seconduser:staff /Users/secondUser
should work
Remember that if you start a path with the character / it means start from the root of the file system, at the highest top you can ever get.
so
cd /Users/fred
is not the same as
cd Users/fred
unless you were in / already
i know it may be confusing at first but it's actually very logical if you play with it.
to simplify, think of it that / means C:\ on windows
you can't go any higher than C:\ (in a way)
if you're unsure which directory you're currently in, you can always type:
pwd
it will tell you where you are.
for example:
cd /
pwd
this shows /
cd Users
pwd
this now shows /Users
cd /System/Library
pwd will show /System/Library
cd /
cd /Users
cd fred
cd Library
pwd will show /Users/fred/Library
unix can look very scary but it's actually vital and very necessary to do tasks sometimes that would take for ever to do via the windows. This is good learning.
so for the myfile you had created, i can't tell you where it is, at the time you created, if you can do a pwd command you'll know the path,
ls -la (this shows all the files where you are)
if you see myfile in the list
do a pwd
whatever is return, the real location of the file would be:
whatever pwd returned / myfile
I hope that makes sense.

I guess I spoke too soon! I really can't believe this nightmare is not over yet! My account is still wrong. The credit that I was due totaled $63.00 I am looking at a message on my phone saying that $21.01 was credited which makes my balance $219.72. I received a text the following day that says, I processed your credit of $30.00 and your new balance $216.73 how is that possible? None of the late fees were credited and the amount due for my monthly charges are wrong. Before any changes were made to my data plan back in Nov. My monthly charges were $140.00, I needed my hot spot back and i was told that the hot spot will increase my bill $10 for each phone that totals $20. The customer rep that change my data plan at that time also gave me a credit of $20 to compensate for the increase until I had time to talk with customer service about the mix-up with my Hot spot. I originally had the hot spot, but the rep that change my plan almost a year prior told me nothing was changing except I was getting more for less money. I explained to that rep that I need my hot spot 4 times a year...and I don't want my plan to have any changes. To verify what I'm telling u check my account and see that I called from Albany New York wanting to know where my hot spot was and I was told I didn't have the hot spot on my account since the last data change! I lost money once again due to the verizon rep's. so my current data plan the rep promised would increase $20 which makes my monthly charges that were $140 prior to the change $160 after the hot spot was returned to my account. Then I was given a $12 credit per month for 12 months because of so many mistakes made to my account so with that $12 credit my monthly charges should $148 + surcharges + taxes and that's not what I see. I do know this much right now my account is in such a shambles I can hardly see the light at the end if there is an end! I need real help!

this message may be due to the user trying to change a Purchase order item payment terms when there is already a blocked supplier invoice registered for the item. The vendor invoice payment terms normally override the PO payment terms. Users sometimes think they can speed up payment to a vendor by changing the payment terms on the PO. This can only be done before an invoice is registered and the PO term can be overridden at invoice entry time in any case.
Have a look at the terms on any associated invoice and the vendor record for the Purch org.
You may also want to have a look at your business process for blocked invoice resolution.
If the user wishes to speed up payment of an invoice they need to contact the users who are responsible for the vendor payments. We call them AP staff in our org - stands for Accounts Payable.

Looking into JWS for a project

I am looking into JWS for a project. I need to have a number of desktops "in the field" query and update a Microsoft SQL server. I don't have the bureaucratic ability to control the users systems but I can control our software on it. I am hoping that JWS will provide some isolation from the rest of the system and help centralize management.
Most of the queries will generate input for statistical programs written in SAS. Security is also a concern.
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Have you thought of the plugin? We ended up using the plugin instead of the WebStart because it's pretty much the same thing but if you want to upgrade users JVM at some point, or if a user who doesn't have the right version of the JVM tries to access the app doing it with the web start can get tricky (you basically have to tell the users to install the right JVM but there's no easy way of controlling it). With the plugin what we do is detect in our applet the version of the JVM and if it's not the right one we forward them to the plugin installation page. If the user doesn't have a JVM at all the plugin kicks off the setup.
Finally, we used WebCream to give access to the app to users who don't even have Java or are sitting on a slow connection. Or app is database driven so WebCream did a great job at coverting it to pure HTML/JavaScript.

Needs to change the profit center in material master. For this they have removed the stock from current period, but its not possible to remove the stock from pervious period because this period is closed(that they don't want to open again).
Why SAP is looking into pervious period stock while changing the profit center in masterial master?
- Is it possible to change the profit center even if stock exists in pervious period with warning message.
- Is it possible to change the profit center even if stock exists in current period with error message.

SAP is looking into previous period for stocks, as is in possible to post into previous period --> depending on settings made in MMRV transaction.
I would not change the profit center while there is stock, as this creates an inconsistency in profit center accounting. if your accountants are okay with that, then you can try to do.
A warning message will let you pass if you click enter, a error message wont.

Great Troubleshooting on your own so far!. (If you got 2 PC and 2 iPod would be much easier, some of the people in this community has more than 2 of each.)
Hope you did not connect it to a USB Hub, the sync cable must be plug in directly to a USB2 port at the back of the Desktop Computer.
If you have a spare Notebook, with iTunes, connect it to the Notebook, to check if the iPod is working or hung.
Can you iPod run and play songs, when disconnected from the PC? (Sorry, for just asking the obvious)
Anyway, just hard reset your iPod, so that we can start from scratch
1. if your iPod is hung, reset it by pressing Menu and Center button for at least 10 secs till the Apple logo, comes on. (this won't delete your songs in the iPod, if they are not corrupted))
2. Connect it back to your Notebook or Desktop.
if your iPod screen is dead, try charging the battery by connecting it to another computer. if it doesn't connect to successfully to another computer, it may need servicing.

Over a few weeks now my connection has seem to of deteriorated quite badly now to a point everything runs terrible. I have tried to do a pin reset on my HH5, no joy also I have reset my Openreach box no joy there, I have also connected straight to my HH5 without the Openreach box connected and nothing changes, I keep the openreach box connected because the HH5 seems to reboot and this makes my connection worse but it reset about a few days ago with the Openreach box connected and now it is really bad also no difference also connected straight to the HH5. My Download has plumeted from a steady 24.2MB down to now 18.8MB and my Upload has gone from 1.91MB down, now to an awful 0.67MB, surely something is really wrong with the connection and needs looking into also my Pings are just awful as well, its hitting 66ms from a steady 15ms and no Jitter, my estimates back when I first had Infinity installed where 19.1/2.90MB so its below my contract anyway, the strange part about it if I connect direct to my HH5 and look at the stats in the Helpdesk section it reads max attainable rate 24558/2208 but my actual speeds are no where near that. I will post an img below taken via ethernet cable today, could someone please seriously have a look at it for me. I don't want to take this as I am just complaining cause it is not good at all it seriously needs looking into for me please, thankyou:-

Can a mod please please help me out or someone from BT I have ran another test now and its going down further this time now and all the time something is wrong. What is the difference between UCS-SD-16G and UCS-SD-16G= ?

Hi,
I have some Cisco B200 m3 blades and will be installing some 16GB SD cards in them. The documentation says that I need UCS-SD-16G cards, but I received cards that say UCS-SD-16G= . Does anyone know what, if any, difference the '=' makes? Are they the same card? I have to make a large purchase of these cards and want to make sure these are the correct type before ordering. You will only notice a performance improvement if you haven't got enough RAM to use the applications you need. If you had a lot of free RAM before, you won't notice any difference now.
If you already have your computer, you can only replace the processor if you replace the logic board. Your computer requires a specific logic board, so you shouldn't replace it and you have to stay with the same processor. Apart from RAM, the only part you can upgrade is the hard drive. What will make an improvement is a SSD drive, if you haven't got one

MobileMe is being terminated in two weeks. If you have files on your iDisk which are not also on your computer you need to be downloading them as soon as possible or you will lose them.
You can migrate to iCloud and set Mail up manually to receive your @me.com mail:
