Lookup definition - what it is for? how it could be used?

Dear All,
I have a few questions regarding lookup definition.
1.What lookups are for?How they can be used?
2.I noticed a lot of out of the box pre-configured lookups are empty. Why? Hmmmm.... Does not make any sense...
Example,
Lookup.AD.FieldsForValidation
3. It looks like Group field might be empty. Why? Is this when lookup definition used by more than 1 form?
4. What is the naming convention for code field?
I carefully reviewed documentation below:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32386_01/generic.902/b32143/oimadm.htm#BABIBJAF
I would appreciate your feedback

My apologies I think I confused you and my question was not clear. (80% already answered by Kevin. Thank you!)
Please let me try to rephrase this for you. (I appreciate your help and guidance!!!!!!)
Lookups are stored in the OIM database .
The purpose:
1. Allow user to select a value from the list.
2. meta data storage (configuration information for adapters, triggers for events, list of available countries, etc. ).Lookups are used by connectors or OIM application itself.
How they can be populated:
1. Through API within your custom task.
2. Out of the box connectors (Lookups for Groups, Organization in AD adapter)
3. Manually by creating lookup definition from Design console.
How they can be used:
1. Set up a query code for the field directly on the Form Designer (Properties tab of the form). FYI There are a few meta link articles regarding lookup manipulation.
2. through FormMetaData.xml configuration.
What is still unclear for me:
I am planning to create a custom lookup that will contain information that will be used for provisioning.
1. Is there a naming convension for Code field that I have to follow for custom lookup definition? Some of the existing out of the box lookups start with Lookup. , some does not..... They follow some kind of a hierarchy. For example, Group.Object Permissions.Allow Delete
2. Why group field sometimes populated, sometimes not? (It is not required for custom lookup definition)
3. How to filter lookup data through API?

I will be greatful if you can help me.

  • What is XI and How it can be useful

    Hi,
I am new to XI i saw many information about xi in blogs and every thing.. but i need to know simply what is XI and how is it useful for business. what is the backgroud required. how oppertunities for xi in future. Most of the companies requires that one or its optional or mandatory.  I femiliar with java i want to move to XI is it good suggition i need any other technologies to update..Is it useful for me..
    Thanks,
    Kishore

    Hi Kishore,
    Purpose
SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) enables you to implement cross-system processes. It enables you to connect systems from different vendors (non-SAP and SAP) in different versions and implemented in different programming languages (Java, ABAP, and so on) to each other. SAP Exchange Infrastructure is based on an open architecture, uses open standards (in particular those from the XML and Java environments) and offers those services that are essential in a heterogeneous and complex system landscape:
    ●     Modeling and design of messages, transformations, and cross-component integration processes
    ●     Configuration options for managing collaborative processes and message flow
    ●     Runtime for message and process management
    ●     Adapter Engine for integrating heterogeneous system components
    ●     Central monitoring for monitoring message flow and processes
SAP XI supports internal company scenarios and cross-company scenarios.
    Features
SAP XI is based on general standards so as to enable external systems to be integrated. At the center of the infrastructure is an XML-based communication that uses HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol). The application-specific contents are transferred in messages in user-defined XML (eXtensible Markup Language) schema from the sender to the receiver using the Integration Server.
In the above graphic, Integration Broker is an SAP NetWeaver capability (that is, the features for a technological area of SAP NetWeaver) that is supported by SAP XI. The Integration Server, on the other hand, is an XI runtime component.
Senders and receivers that exchange messages using the Integration Server are separated from one another. This separation makes it easier to connect systems that are technologically different. Every system that can exchange messages with the Integration Server can also exchange messages with all other systems that are connected to the Integration Server. SAP XI supports the following methods of communication with the Integration Server:
    ●     Direct communication using proxies, which you generate in the application systems using a description in WSDL (Web Service Description Language).
    ●     Communication using adapters. In this case, you create interfaces for message exchange in the application system, or use existing interfaces.
Simple message processing on the Integration Server is stateless. This means that the Integration Server does not know of any connections between various messages. Cross-component integration processes, on the other hand, describe related processes, which can use the knowledge about messages that have already been processed to further control the process (for example, waiting for the corresponding response for a message in order to start further actions). You can use SAP XI to model, change, and manage these cross-component integration processes centrally. These processes are executed on the Integration Server and are included in message processing by configuration.
As with cross-component integration processes, you save the entire integration knowledge of a collaborative process centrally in SAP XI: Objects at design time in the Integration Repository and objects at configuration time in the Integration Directory. In this way, SAP Exchange Infrastructure follows the principle of shared collaboration knowledge: You no longer need to search for information about a collaborative process in each of the systems involved, but can call this information centrally instead. This procedure considerably reduces the costs for the development and maintenance of the shared applications.

  • What is RFC? How it can be used?

    Hi All,
Can anybody explain about RFC (Remote Function Call) and also explain how it can be used?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
RFC- remote functional call. It may be any external device used to make an entry in SAP.
For example Bar Code reader is on of RFC.
U need to study for what purpose u r using this RFC and and what data u want to captured out of this RFC.
One need to implement the abap code so that to accept the per defined format for this RFC.
Please take the help fo ur ABAP associate to map this requirement.
Hope this will help u to understand the RFC.

  • Warning about package deals and what they include for how long!

I am completely livid with my recent interactions with customer service.  Besides the lack of knowledge and lack of care being obvious, they also seem to forget to disclose important details about the packages you are signing up for.  A few months back I called into customer service to seek a better, less expensive package.  Besides the fact that changing my package created a fiasco of no service for three days and 8 plus hours calling into customer service with each rep telling a different tale, I realized today that my premium channels (HBO and Starz) were missing.  Upon calling the rep told me that those channels were a 3 month promotion! What the F!!! Why didn't the customer service rep tell me this the day I signed up?  The premium channels being included was the reason why I took the 1 year package! I even asked again and again that day and repeated the package details back with a confirmation back from the rep that yes I get those channels!  THANKS A LOT FOR LEAVING OUT THE DETAIL THAT THEY ONLY LASTED 3 MONTHS!!! Worst customer service ever!!!!!

  • What Mac specs for Lightroom happiness? LRs use of multi core & GPU etc

I'd like to update a 2010 MacBook Pro 2.6 i7 with Lightroom in mind. I'm not sure if I've found a definitive answer about whether LR (meaning LR 5.5) makes full use of all cores available. Simply put, will LR run twice as fast on a quad-core as a dual? The most sluggish part of LR for me is its drawing of thumbnails and rendering larger or 1:1 views. Am I correct in thinking this is because LR does not make use of the GPU (as, for example, Aperture does to obvious advantage)? In which case there's no point paying extra for a fancy GPU - as far as LR is concerned?

Lightroom uses all cores. You want the fastest CPU you can afford. A faster 4-core is probably better than a slower 6-core.
You want 8 GB of memory, and preferably 16 GB.
Lightroom does not use the GPU, so go for the cheapest one there is (unless you have other programs that need the GPU)

  • Bills And what we pay for that we do not use

£99.50 is a lot to pay think I may need to think about moving. Wish I could just pick the Channels I like ie F1 and not all of sky sports  Jim

Unfortunately no provider allows the customer to choose bespoke packages(it would be nice if they did).
I think the F1 channel has been bundled with the whole sports channel as having it as a stand alone would make it more expensive than most people would pay(based on the viewing figure and the cost Sky had to pay for the rights).

  • What's up everyone! I could really use some help..

To make accented characters in iOS you hold down the base letter and then select the character you want from the popup menu that appears.   Does that not work for you?

  • Does the headset jack must be closed for being able to be used underwater?

For what I know, for Xperia Z3 could be used while underwater, all the ports must be closed firmly. Is it include the headset jack? Because I didn't have the closure cap during purchasing it.Or I have to buy the closure cap separately?
    Solved!

    As Phy said.
Z1 , Z Ultra, Z2, Z3, Z1/Z3 Compact. All phones have exposed headset jack that is waterproof without any need for cover.
However it would be good move to let the jack dry completely before using headphones.

  • Is a high definition DVD burner available for Mac's?

I have a HD camcorder (Canon XHA1) and am using Final Cut express HD. I have been very disappointed in the results I have obtained when burning my Final Cut projects to a standard DVD.(After finishing my FCE project, I use IDVD to produce a disc image, then burn to a standard 4.7 GB Sony or Verbatim DVD-R) Many of my clients now have blu ray players and high def TV's and want their videos in high definition. Is a high definition burner available for a mac pro so that I can burn high definition discs?

Thanks Tom for the link. However, I noticed when reading through the info about this blu-ray drive that it made no mention of being compatible with Final Cut Express HD or IDVD which is what I am currently using. I had considered upgrading to Final Cut Studio but it sounds like this drive is only compatible when used with Adobe Premiere Pro and Encore CS4. I am no techie, so pardon my ignorance about all this. Is Toast a "replacement" for IDVD? Could I use FCExpress (or FC studio if I upgrade) then burn the DVD using toast? Does Toast have menu templates like IDVD?
If anyone has any experience using this blu-ray drive on their Mac with Final Cut and IDVD or Toast I would appreciate some input on what the exact workflow is and if the whole process has been a positive experience.
Thanks so much for your help!

  • What is charged for on YouView

I have a Bt YouView box all wired up and I presume it works as intended.
I have had this for several months now, but so far only use it as an ordinaryTV Tuner plus the rewind facility and the ability to record programmes.  I think it does other things but I just don't understand which options are availble to me free of charge, or what might be charged for. I don't want to inadvertantly run up big additional costs without knowing.
I just don't understand amongst all the options and jargon what is available and how to get best use from the system.
Where can I get a simple, clear explanation.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you hit the Youview button on your remote and then select ON Demand then the players option you should see 8 on demand players
    Of these
    BBC iplayer
    ITV player
    4 on Demand
    Demand 5
    Milkshake
    Dave
    are all currently free players
Now TV (Sky movies) requires a subscription - although you can probably get an introductory free 30 day trial
BT Player is the  Bt library which contains its on demand and some BT sports channel catchup. Whilst some content (a taste of on demand ?) might be free most will be chargeable as you say you have the essential tv package.  Whether it is free or the rental charge would be should on when you view the programme info.
(There is a ninth adult player but that would normally be hidden from view. Other players are likely to be added  later.
If you are using the EPG - going backwards up to 7 days  will also allow you to select to view programs that are available to be replayed - not all  programs are available on catch up , also not all channels offer catchup. These will be free to play unless you get a screen display to say that you need a subscription or to rent.  If you missed a program that was broadcast over 7 days ago you may stilll find it within the relevant on demand player  (eg Bbc iplayer  - ITV player  - 4OD etc)

  • HT5085 Can't remember $24.99 purchase please let me know what it is for. Thanks

Can't remember $24.99 purchase please let me know what it is for. Thanks

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support.
$24.99 is the amount for iTunes Match in the US : http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ - was its auto-renewal due ?
If you log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it. Click on that and you should then see a list of your purchases (I'm not sure if iTunes Match and/or other auto-renewing subscriptions show there).
If you can't find what it's for then you could contact iTunes Support and see if they can help : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • How/why would I use iTunes app on iPhone?

I enjoy using my iPod app on my iPhone, and regularly sync it with iTunes on my MacBook. Works great.
What confuses me is the iTunes icon on the home screen of my iPhone. What's it for? When would I use it? How does it relate to the setup of iTunes on my Mac?
    Thanks.

    What's it for?
To buy music, videos & ringtones from the iTunes Store directly on your phone.
    When would I use it?
When you want to buy music, videos & ringtones directly on your phone, instead of buying on your computer and then syncing them to your phone.
How does it relate to the setup of iTunes on my Mac?
It doesn't. It's an iPhone version of the iTunes Store section of the iTunes application on your computer.
Have you actually tried loading it and exploring it?
All this is explained in the manual:

  • How to downgrade firmware using Airport Utility 6.0?

Found descriptions for how to do it using older versions of the Airport Utility.
In the current version 6.0 of Airport Utility running in Lion, all the manual setup options appear to be gone. No option for downgrading firmware I can find either.
Having the dreaded "disk spins up every few seconds" issue with the TC 7.6.1 firmware. Want to try downgrading to 7.5.2 - am told that will fix the problem before the disk destroys itself.

Hold down the option key.. when you select the different firmware.. it will then offer all that are available..
The very latest TC will not allow you to downgrade beyond 7.6.0 for some reason.. although the first of the Gen4 were sold with 7.5.2 if it didn't come with that level firmware it might not be able to go back to it.
Have you totally isolated the TC from the network.. reset it.. does the disk still spin up and down.. if so return for warranty exchange.. it is faulty. Otherwise start plugging in computers.. or connecting by wireless. give it a new wireless name.. add devices one by one until you find which is causing constant disk access. You might need to then do a reinstall to rid that device of the issue that is affecting the TC.
