Looping DVD's

Hi all,
For some time I have created simple DVD's with menus.
Often those DVD's are used at shows, so I obviously link one clip to the next and the last one loops to the first clip.
At home, they will run continuously, but a client of mine tells me that on his pc machines, everything works fine, but it does not loop.
Anybody have any insight?
Thanks
Jeff

Nope. If you put markers in you can do various things to control the playback. Stories could work.
http://dvdstepbystep.com/stories_details.php
Quick rundown - let's say 3 clips with markers at the beginning of each clip
Play All - Markers 1,2,3 in the story
Just section 3, only marker 3
Etc. etc. Any combination you want with repeats. Story with Markers 1,2,1,3,1,1 will play those sections in that order.
You can set the end jump for each story anywhere you want, including back to the same story. Mae sure you can break out with the menu button on the remote to get to menus to get to other sections.

  • Can II have create a 160 photo slideshow as a looping DVD for a TV set DVD?

I have ~160 digital photos that I would like to run as a looping show for a family party. They range in size from .5 to 1.5 mb. I know each chapter in iDVD5 has a 99 picture limit, so that won't work for me.
I've imported the photos from iPhoto while in iMovieHD, put transitions between them, then imported that project while in iDVD. It had 2 chapters (one with 99 pics) with one chapter set to loop. I burned it and could watch it on my tv's dvd (a Samsung), though it did not loop at all. The DVD wouldn't even play on a Sony DVD player.
I can't quite justify (or afford a Final Cut product), but might have hit the limit of iLife.

Not sure why your iMovie method did not work. If you put your iMovie in the "autoplay" area you see in the map layout of iDVD and set it to "loop" in the advanced menu, it should loop just fine.

If this didn't work on some DVD players, you might try another brand of DVD-R. I like verbatim.
Alternatively, you can make the slideshow in iPhoto and use "Send to iDVD" - this also creates a QT file, so it is not subject to the 99 slide limit.

  • How to make an auto play, auto loop DVD

I can't find any option or help file on how to make a DVD's contents loop. I don't need any menus just the movie to play and loop. Can anyone help me out here? Cheers

You are most welcome, but Jeff did the "heavy lifting," like Ann Bens did in the PrPro forum.
The important thing is that you get what you need.
I'd ditch the Memorex discs, and settle on Verbatim, or Taiyo Yudens. I once used Memorex tape (probably back in your dad's, or grand-dad's day), and it was good. However, for blank DVD media, they adopted a poor business plan - buy the very cheapest source media, and emboss it with their logo. In a spindle of 100, you might find 3 - 4 different mfgr's media. TDK was once good, but went with the Memorex business plan.
There are several media info utilities, and even the free ImgBurn can tell you, but it is always interesting to put in a Memorex disc, and see who actually made it, plus the lot number. Some discs might be good, but then some others can be horrible.
    Good luck,

  • Creating looping DVD: no theme, no menu?

I want to burn a DVD without a theme in iMovie 08.  According to iMovie08 help, I can do this by selecting "Loop" from the Advanced drop down menu, and the DVD will start automatically and keep playing until it stops  Fine. That's what I want for one particular purpose.
Except that when I drag the video I want to burn into the Drop Zone, the Revolution theme (with horrid accompanying music) is in the Drop Zone too and I can't get rid of it.
In fact, when I select the video then Burn, it burns the Revolution theme thingy and ONLY that.  If that's a menu, I don't want a menu either.
I  want the DVD to start automatically and keep looping: NO THEME, NO MENU.  (Sorry for shouting but it makes me nuts.)  Was this fixed by iMovie 11?  If not, IS it going to be fixed?
Can Apple give those of us who can't afford Final Cut Pro a "No theme" option, please? In fact, make No Theme a Theme!
And if i have to see that Revolution and hear that music one more time, I'm buying third-party DVD authoring software.

    Hi
    from. Mishmunken
How to create a DVD in iDVD6 without menu (there are several options)
    1. Easy. Drop your iMovie in the auto-play box in iDVD's Map View, then set your auto-play item (your movie) to loop continuously.
Disadvantage. The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy. If you don't want your (auto-play) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the drop-zone (text needs to be black as well).
Disadvantage. The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time. Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage. One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software. Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn.
Disadvantage. you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way". Post-production with myDVDedit (free-ware)
    Tools necessary. myDVDedit ( www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager.

  • Creating Looping DVD

Is it possible to create a seamless looping video file in iDVD? (Seamless meaning looping without any glitch or hiccup at the loop point).
The video file would be exported to a la Cie silverscreen drive rather than burned to DVD.
    Thanks for any info.

If I understand your question .. this is done iDVD
To turn on looping for a movie or a slideshow in the main iDVD window, select the movie or slideshow button on the DVD menu. Choose Advanced > Loop Movie or Loop Slideshow. To turn off looping, choose Advanced > Loop Movie or Loop Slideshow again.
To turn on looping for a movie or a slideshow (including autoplay movies and slideshows) in map view, click Map. Select the movie or slideshow icon and choose Advanced > Loop Movie or Loop Slideshow. To turn off looping, choose Advanced > Loop Movie or Loop Slideshow again. Looping autoplay movies can be useful for creating self-playing presentations, such as kiosks.
To turn on looping for a slideshow in the slideshow editor, double-click the slideshow button in the menu to open the slideshow editor. Select the checkbox labeled "Loop slideshow." To turn off looping, click the checkbox to deselect it.

  • Using powerpoint or pages2 to make a looping DVD--what software to use?

I want to make a DVD with a promotional ppt or pages 2 presentation that I can use at a trade show. Any suggestions? All I have to play it on is a TV.
Can GB or some other software that comes with X accomplish this?

    Hi, mmassey1.
    1. If you use Keynote to create your presentation, you can then export it as a QuickTime movie (.mov). Keynote is part of iWork, which includes Pages.
You can then:• Create a new movie project in iMovie / iMovie HD and import your .mov file(s) to such.
    • Perform any edits you want in iMovie.
    • Export the iMovie project from iMovie to iDVD to create the DVD, which includes the VIDEO_TS folder and related bits for a proper DVD.I'd recommend using Keynote 3, part of iWork '06, for this.
    2. PowerPoint (PPT) permits you to save slides as individual image files. You could then add the slides into iPhoto, then either:• Create an iPhoto slideshow from those images, and then send the slideshow to iDVD
    • Create the slideshow directly in iDVD from the images you added to your iPhoto library.Good luck!

  • How To Burn a Looped DVD??

    Simple as that?
iDVD won't load properly as it's too old. Something about themes not loading/being found.
    iMovie cannot do so.
Final Cut X also cannot do so.
DVD Studio Pro fails to add assets, so that's a no go.
    What can i do?
    Thanks for any help!

Check in  the HD/Library/Application Support folder for an iDVD folder.  If there is one see if it contains a Themes folder with subfolders.
If there is no iDVD folder there look in the Home/Library/Application Support folder for an iDVD folder.
If you find the Themes folder open iDVD, go to its Advanced preference pane and point iDVD to the location of the themes folder.
If you can't find the Themes folder you'll have to reinstall iDVD and it's resources from the source it came on originally.

  • Looping A DVD

i have a five minute DVD that I need to loop. It has no chapters or menus. I need the most basic directions for this as I haven't done it before.
Read the manual but just got confused.
    Thank you

David's response couldn't be much clearer, so I'm not sure why it's still confusing.
Anyway, look at page 130-131 in the DVDSP 4 manual, under the heading "Setting the Project's First Play". It discusses creating a looping DVD for kiosk play, which is the behavior you described.
The manual says the same thing that David did, though...

  • Is there any way to have a COMPLETE list of all samples and loops ( Logic 8

I'm sure it's been posted previously, but anyway, I'm looking to buy new Apple Loops libraries and I have faced the fact , that many of the sounds and loops produced by third parties manufacturers have been already included in Logic installation discs.
I have a list of Apple Loops DVD's that have been included with Logic somewhere, the problem is, Apple didn't post ( I believe) the credits of all 3rd party manufacturers that have produced these libraries that are included with Logic or Garage band. Is there any way to have a COMPLETE list of all samples and loops that are included with Apple DAW's so I wouldn't duplicate anything ? I'm pretty much positive that Apple had other companies to sound design and sample all libraries for them, so is there also a way to have a list of those manufacturers? Again, the objection is to start upgrading the sound library without any possible duplication?
    Thanks in advance!

Chris, I certainly don't mind additional questions and postings.
I believe there are many issues with Apple Loops and Logic that need to be resolved and people need to be aware of that. Unfortunately, in opposite to the old "german" version of Logic , there's no lifetime tech support, you can't even call and ask the question after 60 days , which isn't right for a professional software of this level, especially considering the fact that many things still remain vague in Logic even for developers and tech support people!( believe me, I've called and asked!)
Issues like that need to be resolved over the phone with the company, period!
One thing I also learned over the years as a Mac OSX user, if something doesn't work, don't mess with it. Delete your drive and re-install everything. This is very frustrating , I know, but unfortunately this is the only way to deal with OSX issues, if you got a problem with your system, don't try to fix it. It's never gonna be the same again. I know , it's off the topic a little bit, but if your content is missing from the system files, before installing your new Logic, back up your important files, wipe up your drive and clean install Mac OSX , run updates and then install the Logic. Most likely , everything will be in it's place, at least 90% or more. I gave up trying to make two system in my house to be compatible 100% , but it's OK if they're 90% or more identical. I spent enormous amount of time trying to find out what's missing and where, I visited most of the forums and there's no clean answer.

  • Editing footage from DVD in FCP

    Forum,
Here's my issue. A client has a 2 hour presentation on DVD, which they want to edit down to a 90 minute piece. This shorter piece will end up being on a looping DVD. The footage on the original DVD is 16x9 and they want to keep it that way for use on large widescreen monitors. What is the easiest way to get the footage into FCP? The clips to capture will be long, about 30 minutes, do I capture it playing from a DVD player? Do I use a "DVD Ripper"? I have no experience using that type of software.
    Help is appreciated.

MPEG Streamclip is what you need to convert the client's DVD to an editable format. The problem is that the video on DVDs is very highly compressed. If you take it, edit it and then recompress it back to a DVD there will be a noticeable loss in quality. Talk to your client and get an uncompressed version of their video (not a DVD).

  • Viewing full screen on loop?

Is there a way that I can view my movie on fullscreen and loop it during the playback?

    Welcome
No, This is a feature of idvd. You could copy your movie a bunch of times but that really isn't a loop. IDVD will let you make a looping DVD and play full screen.

  • Opinions on Highest quality encode for DVD

I am doing a 16:9 Loop DVD for a tradeshow display. It will be shown on a 50" Plasma screen. I am trying to get the best quality encode on the screen. The project is 50 Sec long (storage & encode time not an issue) and contains both graphics and video elements. Video elements were shot on HDV. Compositing done in After Effects at 1920x1080. There does not seem to be a direct way to encode from AfterEffects to MPEG2, probably because the frame size is not MPEG2 standard. What would be the absolute best workflow to get to MPEG2 with as little artifacting as possible? I'm thinking uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2?
    G5 2.5 Dual   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Someone here said once that 10 bit was overkill and that there may be issues with some encoders's conversions from 10-bit down to 8-bit.
Having said that, I'd use either 10-bit or 8-bit uncompressed codec. You probably want to resize your After Effects render down to 720x480 on export from your render queue, rather than have the MPEG2 encoder do it. Then take the uncompressed 720x480 file and MPEG2 encode away. Since it's only 50 seconds, I'd do a 7.5Mbps CBR 16:9 encode (if delivery is via DVD-R).
