Loosing IP address after sleep

I've read several threads on similar connectivity issues, but haven't found quite the same situation, nor a solution that works for me. So here it is, I hope someone out there knows what's going on and will be able to help out :-)
Problem: Wireless devices in my house tend to not being able to rejoin my home wifi network, either after waking up from sleep (laptop, ipad, AppleTV), or when getting back into range (iPhone when I get back home).
Affected devices can see and join the Wifi network, but don't always get an IP address. iPhones switch over to 3G/4G. (spinning wheel instead of a checkmark next to the Wifi network name in Settings > Wifi)
Fix (temporary, hence this post): reboot my Airport Extreme. This makes all wifi devices connected and happy again... until next time
Other interesting facts:
- This is not systematical (thank God!). Most of the time, laptops and phones automatically rejoin the network, but the frequency of incidents is clearly increasing in the past few years, now almost every day.
- I replaced my Airport Extreme some time ago, while still under warranty, but the issue reappeared soon after, with the new base station. Not a hardware problem!
- to reboot the Airport Express, I almost always have to unplug it for a few seconds because it tends to ignore Aiport Utility's "restart base station" command.
- My main computer, which never goes to sleep, never loses its Internet connection. When I try to "test it" and put it to sleep, then waking it up, it gets right back online all by itself.
- All firmwares are up to date, according to Airport Utility and Apple Software Updates.
Config:
8-year old ADSL modem, running PPP (Provider: AT&T)
AirPort Extreme connected to modem, WPA2 security, DHCP, USB Printer sharing
AirPort Xpress, in "network extension" / bridge mode
     Clients: various Apple gizmos,
Has anybody else encounter this problem and found a more "permanent" fix?
I can provide more DSL and Airport setup details upon request :-)
Thanks in advance for any help or pointers you may have,
HK

I use to have that issue as well. I upgraded router when I started dual boot with Vista, then I had trouble last year with Windows 7 and problem is now gone, totally, never to return. Thanks to new modem.
You might get by with firmware updates to modem/router/switch, but for me, biting the bullet and not having to deal with lost connection was worth it.

  • Loose network connection after sleep

Everytime my macbook pro sleeps it looses network connections in my home and I have to go through re-establishing connection including network password

This seems to be a common issue on most Mac platforms lately.  I have 2 Macbook Pro's and 1 Air all experiencing this issue.  It only happens on hidden networks, at least in my case and most I have read.  I have yet to hear any official response from Apple but there must be at least 15 threads on this exact topic thoughout the forums.
Some people claim removing all the "Remembered" networks and re-add them fixes it.  I have noticed the only thing that seems to work is if I remove all networks and if I have a hidden network, it can be the only one listed. As soon as I add another saved network hidden or not, the problem comes back.
This is hard since most of the end users that use the macbooks on our hidden networks also use them at home.  So they naturally have multiple networks listed.  The odd thing is its not ALL of them.  We have a bunch of other Mac's that do not experience this issue.
I know this is not a solution but it is what I have found so far...

  • FF 21.0 Unresponsive after Sleep - Windows 7.0

Ok, this problem has been going on with a number of FF users since FF 8.0 (and possibly earlier). I have yet to see a suggested response that actually cures the problem, and the fact that the issue still persists in the current release tells me that it has not been addressed by the developer.
I'm running Windows 7 and consistently, after waking up from sleep, FF is completely unresponsive. The only solution I have found that works is to terminate the program completely and restart it.
Others have suggested Resetting FF, rebooting the system in Safe Mode etc - NONE of these suggestions cure the problem. I have tried disabling plugins and various other methods to know avail.
After much testing, it is my belief that the issue has to do with the way FF handles running javascript and that FF is unable to recover from sleep mode and start these javascripts again - just a theory.
This is a very common issue, and I can replicate it across other PCs as well as those running under XP SP3.
I'm interested in hearing actual solutions to this issue from people who have experienced it and resolved it, not best guess stabs in the dark about things to try (and please, if all you have to add is "I'm having this problem too", it's really better not to respond - I already know that a lot of people are dealing with this problem, so simply adding your name to the list isn't going to help).
    Thanks,
    RadioActive1

For me, this problem began after I installed Windows important updates released 5/14/13. When I ran system restore to a date prior to installation of those updates, the problem was gone.
So I installed each update, one at a time, with a few days between each, and found the problem began again right after install of Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2798162).
I ran system restore to the save point prior to installation of KB2798162, and problem is gone.
Update KB2798162 "improves messaging of dialog boxes when you run executable files in Windows". I think I can live without this update for now, rather than deal with the unresponsive-firefox-after-sleep aggravation.

  • T440s in Windows 7 Pro loses Wifi connection after sleep 7260AC

    Hi guys,
I keep having issues waking up from sleep with my T440s.  It WILL NOT connect to wifi and the wireless adapter under windows adapter settings disappears.  Only thing that fixes this is a reboot.  I have removed "allow windows to turn this device off" under wireless settings.
    Driver: 17.12.0.4
    Dated: 28/08/2014
    Software: Lenovo Access Connections
I do not use windows to connect to WIFI.  I have dedicated profiles for each of my wifi networks at home and work.
This is a serious productivity killer.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This is a well-known issue with the AC card.  Go take a look at the Intel forum.
You don't necessarily have to reboot to get the card back.  Right click it in Device Manager and then disable/enable.  It will come back online.
Some tips that have worked for many:
-DO enable the power saving setting.  If I disable it on my T440p, the card is offline upon wakeup.
-Ditch ProSet and let Windows manage your wifi.  Profiles might be convenient, but...
-Ad Hoc QoS - WMM enabled.  Enable it on your router(s), too.
    -Ht Mode - VHT
-U-APSD support - this one can go either way.  Some leave it on and don't have an issue.  Some have to disable it to have the card work after sleep.  You have to play with it.
And, I really believe that the router/modem type can make a difference, too.  Some just don't work right with this card no matter what you tweak on the card.  With this card, I think an AC router/modem is the way to go.
Another thing is the driver itself.  I had wake issues when I first got this ThinkPad about 10 months ago.  Then, Intel released v 16.6 and that one fixed it.  I've tried all of the 17s released since and all of them caused sporadic failures to wake.  So, I have always rolled back to 16.6 and it always wakes.
Note this:  If you use Lenovo Update, it won't create a restore point in Windows so your "Roll Back Driver" button might be greyed out in DM.  Always manually create a restore point before you update a driver.  And, if it's working, whatever it is, leave it alone.  If the release notes don't address an issue you're having, skip it.
Driver updating is way oversold here and elsewhere.  If you're determined to update anyway, at least don't be an early adopter.  Let other peeps do it first and then come back here and see about the complaints!  Also, you can download the driver at Intel in their Administrators sets of drivers.  Bare drivers and no software overhead.
    Good luck.

  • Main display blank after sleep under Mavericks

I use a NEC Multisync LCD 2690 as my main display, and a small Hansol H550 as a secondary one; when waking up from sleep, the NEC is blank and everything is crammed up on the Hansol. Under Lion, I could go to the System Preferences, choose Monitors and Detect Monitors to force the displays to correct themselves but this feature is absent under Mavericks; any idea how I could correct this without having to perform a complete restart each time the Mac Pro goes to sleep?

Found the so-called missing feature: in System Preferences, choose Monitors and hold down the Option key to get the Dectect Monitors button. Still, loosing the main display after sleep is a BIG bug...
P.S. I’m working with a French system, the naming of the features might be slightly off.

  • Wireless client keep loosing IP address.

    Hi,
I am in hot water, i am not good with wireless i have wireless LAN in my network which is connected to wired network. the problem is my clients get connected to the network but suddently they loose connectivity and start dhcp request and get limited connecitivity with automatic ip address.
My network design is like this.
    1. I have a three floor building every floor has its own core and access layer and floors are connected layer 3 (not usual layer 2).
    2. Wireless Controllers 4402 are in layer 3 mode and are on ground floor and AP are everywhere in building.
    3. Wireless controllers are connected to ground floor core using a VLAN say VLAN 205 and AP's on ground floor and other floors are in different VLANs (physical connectivity of AP's).
    4. controllers are configured for two different VLAN's say VLAN 212 for data and VLAN 213 for voice.
    5. VLAN interface of the controller is configured with right helper address for DHCP.
My problem is i am a bit confused with the desigh of the network. As i mentioned all floors are connected layer 3 it means seperate VTP domain and seperate VLAN's, all APs on all floors are in differnt IP subnet respectively. but the wireless VLAN is common for all the users on all floors, this is the bit which confuses me alot. the wireless data VLAN has its own IP subnet which is advertised from gound floor only (make sense) but the users are not connecting to ground floor APs only they are connecting everywhere in the building. Users are getting IP address from the wireless VLAN range on every floor, can anybody explain me how they are getting communication because wireless subnet is only local to ground floor core not to first floor or second floor but some people are connecting to 1st floor and 2nd floor AP and are working fine.
The next pain is that my laptops started loosing IP address and they get automatic private IP address hence loose connectivity, the communication issue i referred above is secondary i am actually looking to rectify the ip address issue because users are having problem with it. Signal strength on every floor is perfect and coverage is ok, i have tried to debug dhcp detail packet but i don't receive any because controllers are in differnt VLAN for physical connectivity. Can somebody help me with this thing?
    Regards,

Your wireless clients will associate to the best AP interms of signal strenght and signal to noise etc.
There is an LWAPP tunnel between the access point and the controller.
At the controller there will be logical interfaces for the wireless LANS that are asssociated to specific VLANs on the wired network.
It doesn't matter where you are in the building as a client as its the controller that puts the client data onto the wired network.
All client data is tunneled between the access point and the controller.
With regard to the losing IP address situation. I assume that the clients do initially get an IP address and then lose it after a period of time.
Check the session timeout paramter on the controller (look on the WLAN-Advanced).
There is a bug with some versions of software relating to session timeouts. Try setting the timeout to 65535 seconds. The default setting is probably 30 minutes.

  • PAB Distribution List outlook 2003 xp migrated to win7 Outlook 2010 looses all addresses in the Group

Have a user that has PAB Distribution List outlook 2003 xp and  migrated to win7 Outlook 2010 looses all addresses in the Group/Distro List group imports, just will not show addresses in the distro or it removes them.
I opened the same PAB and distro on a xp computer with office 2003 after user complained none of the contacts in the distro where in there.. and using the same PAB on both computers the group contacts where populated... but do not appear on outlook 2010
    win7.
The Distro/Group is a personally created distro by the user, not an exchange server stored distro/group so its not a exchange issue.
Ive searched the net .. cant find anything on the issue.. don't know if its a MS bug, or something is switched on or off, Registry issue ??
Need a real answer to this , and can not use a third party app, must be resolved with existing apps, very strict enviroment
    Thanks in Advance
    Sean

    Hi everyone,
I have the exact same problem. When I import a 2003 PAB into Outlook 2010, There are no contacts displayed. The address book itself seems to be imported (I can select the address book when creating an e-mail), but again, no contact exist in the imported
    PAB.

  • MacBook Air 11 2014 Wifi Issues After Sleep

I know that people have reported their wifi taking a long time to establish a connection after sleep.  I thought I would test my brand new MacBook Air 11 2014 by closing the lid for several hours to see what happens.  When I opened the lid, the wifi signal was full and not greyed out like other people have reported.  However, my internet was dead.  Could not connect to websites or find my iTunes library on my other Mac.  In order to get it working again I have to switch the wifi off, then back on again.  I'm not 100% sure why I am reporting this as it seems to be a big issue with Mavericks.  Its just the majority have reported the wifi logo being greyed out and taking a long time to find its corresponding network.

    Hi Daz1761,

  • Desktop computer crashes after sleep mode since upgrade to Snow Leopard

Since I upgraded my power Mac to Snow Leopard in December, I've had nothing but problems, all of which appear to stem from when it comes out of sleep mode. This computer and all applications were rock solid in Leopard! I also have a mac book running identical programs and that IS rock solid on Snow Leopard. I have a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon processor with 10 GB ram.
I did a complete re-install of SL and all programs as per the Apple instructions.
Basically, the computer crashes after sleep mode. I've tried all the fixes I've read on the net. Here is the report thread from the last crash. Does it mean anything or throw any light on the problem to anyone?
    Thanks,
    David Wright

The problem has been identified as the RME fireface400 audio driver. I've spent some considerable time experimenting to identify the culprit. It's clear that this is what is causing all my problems since Snow Leopard. Whether it's exclusively the drivers fault or partly also due to a conflict with apple SL, I don't know, but I have crash reports if apple want to see them.
From your first post, it appears you are using Fireface audio driver version 2.64. RME released a new Snow Leopard compatible driver (version 2.65) last December. It is available at RME: Downloads. (There is also a firmware updater for the Fireface 400 there, which you might want to check out.)
It isn't at all unusual for a new OS version to require new drivers for third party hardware. References to this can be found all over the web, in "read me" files & other documentation, etc. -- it doesn't just apply to OS X but to Windows & other OS's as well. (One of the biggest problems with Vista was poor third party driver support.) In fact, the X-Lab "Resolving Kernel Panics" article specifically cautions users to make sure all such drivers are current. See section 6.1 of that article for more details.
I don't know if you missed all this somehow, but if you haven't already downloaded & installed the new RME driver (& possibly the firmware update as well), then do so now. While you are at it, check for other similar updates for any other third party hardware devices you use, using the info in section 6.1 of the X-Lab article as a guide.
Hopefully, this will resolve your issue, which (as already mentioned) is kernel panics, not crashes. If you still have problems, post more about them, being mindful of the difference between application crashes & kernel panics. Because they are fundamentally different, they have different cures, so we will need to know which type they are to offer effective help.

  • Skype 7.6 (409) Cant connect after sleep/lid-close...

Skype cannot connect after sleep or after I've closed the lid of the computer. I've tested this out and it sometimes opens up the main skype chat window however I am offline and cannot go online.
    I've tried several methods;
    - deleting $TMPDIR/Skype directory
    - deleting my username folder from ~/Library/Application Support/Skype
    - deleting ~/Library/Application Support/Skype/shared.xml
    - Re-installing skype
The only solution seems to be restarting my computer so I can relogin with skype. However this is not an acceptable solution.

I couldn't find the edit button . I've succesfully found the problem causing it. However since I can't debug the skype app I am unable to find a solution as of yet.
My culprit was vagrant. Everytime I boot up a vagrant instance of a vm (which is whenever I turn on my computer) I get dropped out of skype. I've tested this as far as starting a vagrant during a skype call. The call doesnt drop (it kinda stutters) but I am logged out of skype immediately.
    The things vagrant does are logged here;

I suspect there is a port misalignment, however the ports I've specified should not conflict with skype afaik.

  • Mac Pro 2008 always crash after sleep and after first start

    Hello, new in the forum,
2 years ago, I replaced the main disk of a Mac Pro 2008 for a SSD Samsung 470 256 Go.
Until then, it always crashed 1 or 5 minutes after sleep mode (which I didn't used much), and not always 10 to 15 minutes after the first start of the day.
No matter if I was working on it or not… Suitcase installed or not (no font problem here). Rest of the day was fine (if no sleep !).
The difference of speed was so big and "good" that I dealed with it. I though that the Mac Pro was a little old for the SSD technology, and that Apple would fix it, with chance…
    2 weeks ago, I installed Maverick :
I got crashs during the work flow too. I needed to re-start 3 times at least… Re-start without extension was ok (or not), re-start, crash, re-start without extension, restart ok. I used Onyx, did PRAM too. And sometimes, I needed to re-install Maverick or even to do a clean-install !
So I suspected the Samsung 470 for all (sleep and work crashs) and replaced it for a Samsung 840 Pro 512 Go.
And the Mac Pro returned to Mountain Lion.
Not really better : no crash one day (yeeeees!) and crash after the first start the next day (nooooo!). Every time I tested sleep mode, it crashed.
    My system :
    Mac Pro 3.1 - 2,8 GHz - Quad
Mountain Lion, 10 Go ram DDR2, ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, 30' cinema display.
Adobe CS5 alone (minimal install) with Onyx to repair after each crash.
Could it be the video card, the mother board, the age of the boy ?
    Thanks a lot !
    Christophe S

    Edit !
I said that Finder and apps were blocked after 10 seconds (without extension).
But it was to clic on Launchpad that blocked all, and 5 minutes later it works again.
I did clic again on Launchpad, it blocked and 2 minutes later it appeared full screen but with rainbow circle, and quit.
    - Restarted with extensions. Kernel panic!
    - Restarted the mac and the grey screen with Apple blocked, without any mouse this time. 15 minutes later, still blocked.
    - Forced restart without extension. Here are the reports of Kernel Panic and EtreCheck:

  • Airport connection lost after sleep mode

    Hello everbody,
Each time I send my PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 867 to sleep it won't to connect to my (or rather to any) Airport network anymore after waking up, it just seems as if Airport is completely defunct after waking up.
My iBook G4 works without any problems on the same network, by the way.
I know the workaround with restarting IPv4 networking (described here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1122310&#1122310) and I have also created an AppleScript for automatising this process, however I am still wondering, if this issue will ever be addressed by Apple, since it is still present for me in 10.4.6.
    Best regards,
    Björn Wilmsmann
PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 867 with standard Airport card   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Okay, this might not solve your problem, but I had a similar problem when I switched from WPA2 to WEP on my Airport, therefore also changing the password which again somehow got my Powerbook confused.
I went into System Preferences > Network > Airport and looked at my "Preferred Networks" list (Not "By default, join..." > "Automatic"). Then I edited my airport network in that list (the small "Edit" button) and I saw that the password somehow was corrupted. When I corrected this error my Powerbook began joining automatically after sleeping again. Strangely, this setting has nothing to do with the Keychain Access, even though you can find your base station's password there too...
Oh, and I might add: My airport is on a closed network and is therefore not "visible"...

  • IMac freezing on Safari, Mail, itunes after sleeping

I've had a problem for the past 4 days with my iMac freezing mainly when on Safari, Mail, iTunes...
It happens most times after it sleeps, then I can't quite and have to force quite, then it won't restart or shut down
I have to force shut down... It will then reboot ok and work ok for so long then goes again mainly after sleeping.
When for example Safari fails, Firefox still works fine?!
I've gone into the disk utility and verified the permissions and checked the drive. all ok!
and I've reset the RAM and totally unplugged the iMac.
I've read on some post advising not to reinstall and it's a software issue and should wait for the next update?
Is anybody having the same problem?
