Lost all but eight contacts from my address book on iMac, Macbook Pro and iPhone all lost by iCloud

When I try to access Address Book from my backup HD I cannot ... and I get this message: "You can't use this version of the Application "Address Book" with this version of OS X. You have address Book 5.0.3. So what! It worked until this morning. Now what?

Mail by default will show everything in your inbox, irrespective of how old it is. The only way I know you might be able to change that is by creating a Rule that alters how older emails are treated. Most likely you would know about any such Rules, assuming this is your personal machine. You can see if anything like that exists on your account by looking at Mail>Preferences>Rules tab.
I presume you are just talking about your regular Inbox?

When i try to sync my facebook contacts to my address book on my Macbook pro, they dont all move across. Any tips would be appreciated. I jhave tried to sync them through the settings.

This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

I have just fired up a new ipad, and am not getting the "info" tab in the bar, so I can't sync my contacts from my address book on my macBook Pro ... ??

With Mavericks you won't get the Info tab, you use iCloud to sync contacts - from http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12117 :

Are you running OS X Lion 10.7.2 or higher? Did you go to System Preferences>iCloud and check Contacts?
If so, can you describe where you are getting stuck?

Is there a way to transfer contacts from Mac Address Book to an iPhone?

I tried posting this before but no one answered. I dont currently have an iphone (or any smartphone). I do have a Mac and I have my contacts in the Mac Address Book (not in an email client like Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail)
I want to know if I get an iphone is there an easy way to transfer contacts (names, addresses, emails etc) and especially HOME/WORK/CELL Phone numbers from the Address Book on the Macbook Pro to the iphone....
I would think there's a way to do that since both the Mac and the iphone are Apple products....but no one has been able to give me a straight answer on this...except to transfer contacts from Gmail but my contacts are not in Gmail
So if I get an iphone (or probably any phone) do I have to manually enter all my contacts each time? I thought that it would be easier with an iphone than an Android or other smartphone.

I appreciate the link but wasnt really looking to go through a 100+ page iphone guide. From what I saw, it said what other people have told me - which is it will sync contacts from Google (Gmail) or Yahoo...so that doesnt mean it will sync contacts directly from an Android phone's contact list. All the manual said was you sync thru itunes.
It looks like what I should do at some point is manually input all my contacts into a new "clean and unused" Gmail account...Unless there was an easy way to transfer my Mac Address Book to a Gmail Account.
It seems like if you have contacts in a Gmail account, it will be easy to transfer anywhere.
Im starting to wonder if an Android would be bette than an iphone anyway. Considering the nightmare time Ive had with a Mac in just a few months, Im surprised Im even still considering another Apple product.

I was syncing my iphone today and I realized later on after I plugged off the iphone that I have lost all my contacts on the phone and the address book on my macbook pro.
I want to know how can I get back my contacts either through the iphone or the macbook pro.

When you sync an iPhone w/ itunes, iTunes automatically creates a backup. Thus, I would recommend doing a Restore from the most recent back-up.
Moreover, when you connect ur iPhone to iTunes, make sure you DONT allow iTunes to back-up again. Otherwise, the back-up will overwrite the previous one

Back it up in iTunes! Just make a backup of the entire device but make sure you check sync contacts and the option to add contacts from phone to address book on computer.

I don't believe there's much you can do about it...have a look at the "More Like This" pane on the right side of this page.
One way though to eliminate the issue (although not a very good way) is to restore the phone as new.

About once a month I delete all my Yahoo contacts and upload a new file. (That may sound crazy but I do it from a master file (a database) both to Yahoo and Lotus Notes and blackberry via Notes. Only takes a few moments. Works for me.)
When I do this with my iphone it's duplicating some contacts, not a whole lot, but some - maybe 3%. I have reset the sync history before doing this.
So, any way to wipe the slate clean on the iphone and force a one way refresh?

Please check you contact name in the device and verify if the names does not start with none alphabetic characters (e.g. @, &, *, etc). This characters will actually stop the sync process and will not be able to successfully complete the transfer of data. Do the same thing with the contact data you have online just to be sure..
If that it still doesn't work, delete your Google account on the device, restart, and then recreate the same account.
Let me know how it goes...

How to make an appointment with a contact from the address book directly to iCal

What is the easiest way to make an appointment with a contact from the address book. My idea is that once you identify a contact down the bottom where it has Text message Share contact, add to favorites it would be nice if it had make appointment in iCal. The open up iCal to todays date and go from there with all the relevant details?

This has to do with this information being held in a separate cache in the phone. There are two choices here. You can restore the phone as a new device, which is the only true way to remove this cache; or you can wait until the information is overwritten in the cache, and no one has been able to describe how long that takes, so I would say the only way to really do it is the restore as new, and not from a backup. This will delete all of your data and you will need to sync data back individually.

I can see the "AddressBook" file on the old HD (extracted from old machine--which died) and have a copy of that file on to desktop of new machine. [Copied from old HD: Users/home/Library/Application Support/Address Book]. There is an Address Book in the same location on the "MacIntosh HD" of the new machine, but some of the files in that (new) folder have different names. Risky to simply over-ride this. What should I do?

Thanks for the reply Julian, but I tried that and the only cards that show up in that "contacts" folder are the ones that come with the iPod: ipodcreatedsample.vcf and 2 others.
I brought this to the genius bar at my local Apple store, and they couldn't figure out how to do it, so this one is definitely a challenge. The genius bar advice was: "try to find a solution online." Aaack.
