Lost:  Composite to-S-video cable.

I have never had a use for the composite to-S-video cable that was supposedly shipped with my PowerBook 17 inch, circa May 2003 Now I want to do a PowerPoint presentation and need something to connect my laptop to a Dell digital projector. Right now, I have no information on which projector this might be.
Does anyone think I can find such or something similar locally, say at Fry's Electronics as I do not have time to order. Would they have a composite video cable which I understand I would need if I can't find or locate a composite to-S-video cable. Thanks.

Your system should have two output options: a DVI Output port and the S-Video port. Assuming you have neither of the adapters that came with the system, if you're close to an Apple store, go pick up the DVI to VGA adapter. Or Fry's also carries Apple adapters, as well as some third party adapters. On my work notebook, I plug projectors into the VGA port all the time.

  • Using iPad Composite Video Cable with Mini

I have an Apple composite video cable that worked beautifully with my 1st generation iPad.  The 30 pin to lightning adapter will allow me to make the physical connections of that cable to my new Mini, but thus far I've been unable to get it to work.  Is this a lost cause, or can it be made to work?

    Thanks IIIass

    - my iPod Touch is a 3rd gen so I referred to that guide, but have upgraded software on it to iOS5.1... so that may explain why the TV Out option has disappeared.
    - I normally use the AV leads for my Wii into my TV,  and so have taken those out and put the Apple leads in then gone to the "game" input screen option I normally use for the Wii. I then connect the iPod Touch to the composite lead, and then press play on the video. The screen is black with no sound !
    - I have a portable TV I can test if it has the AV lead input sockets.

  • No S-Video and composite video cable adapters from Apple?

    Hello.
Is it me or does Apple's http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/mac_accessories/cables/cable_choo ser not carry any video cable adapters that go to S-Video and composite inputs (an old Panasonic projector TV from Y2K) from MacBook Pros (2008 and 2012 models)? This is just for watching fullscreen videos.
    Thank you in advance.

Might want to canvass Mom & Pop computer stores in the area, that usually don't have such a furious inventory turnover rate as the big chains, and maybe you'll find what you need. Or look in eBay, Amazon, etc. Note that you don't NEED an Apple-labeled adapter, just one that will plug in whatever ports you have left and gives the required output.
OK and thanks. I tried to find on big retailer stores online like Best Buy, Fry's Electronics, Office Max, Radio Shack, etc. but had no luck. Or maybe I am not searching correctly (DVI S-Video and DVI composite keywords as two examples)? I did find Apple's on Amazon.com based on the model number from someone on comp.sys.mac.system newsgroup: http://www.amazon.com/APPLE-M9267G-DVI-Video-Adapter/dp/B0000ACOBL/ ...

  • After updating ipad 2 to IOS 5.1 composite video cable says "this accessory is not supported by iPad"

Now that I have updated my iPad 2 and iPhone 4s to 5.1, when I connect my composite video cable to watch netflix or other video on my TV I get the message that the accessory is not supported.  The audio goes through fine, but the video only plays on the device.  Anyone else run into this?  Ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks.

I have the same problem. Even worst, I use my iPod touch at the gym cause our bikes and threadmills have iPod connection (and screen of course) so I used watch TV shows from my iPad. Last week, thought the treadmill connector on the machine was broken... from what I see, it's the TV out on the iPad that is not working anymore.
Once home, I used my composite cable, well just like you got a message : "not supported" tried on iPad and Ipod Touch.
THANKS APPLE WITH YOUR STUPID UPDATES!!!!
But now seems your Video cables won't be selling much if not working hey?
And reboot has no effect, don't waste your time.

  • Composite video cable doesn't work...

I have a video composite cable (one of those cables which have three heads, red, white and and yellow, on one end, and a single head, like a headphone cable, with three "rings" on the other) for my video camera, and I tried it with my iPod and my TV. It doesn't work. It works when playing music (with a little "hissing", so I guess after all it doesn't "quite work"), but it doesn't for video. When I switch off the TV out of my iPod and play video, the TV's got the sound and the iPod's got the image. I tried that cable with some other stuff too, like my digital camera and it works. I thought all those composite video cables are the same; I thought all video composite cables work for iPod but apparently it isn't the truth, because if it is, my cable would've worked. So what's wrong? Is it my cable? Or worse, my iPod?

As noted above, you need to switch the outputs.
Apple did this so you can use regular headphones with the iPod.
If you plug standard headphones into a video camera, it will not work correctly because the video camera jack is wired differently than the headphones.

  • HDMI to Composite RCA video cable to display Mac on TV

Does an HDMI to Composite video cable like this:
    http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_16604_1.jpg
allow me to display my macBook Pro retina (late 2013) on an old TV?

    PeterJayNebrasca,
no — you’d need a digital-to-analog converter of some sort to convert the digital HDMI signal into an analog form which your old TV would find acceptable.

  • Old Composite Video cable (Tangerine iBook) not compatible with Video iPod

    I discovered a little surprise.
Despite being exactly identical on both ends of the cable, an old Apple Composite Video cable, originally purchased for a Tangerine iBook, is not compatible with Video iPod.
Anybody confirms such situation, or is it just my Video iPod with a faulty video output?

  • Confirm Apple Composite Video Cables Work

Before I shell out the $50 for the Apple Composite Video cable set I want to confirm that they will actually work to send video, TVshows, Movies from my 3rd Generation 8Ghz Nano Ipod to a TV through the composite (three plug) video plugs. Do they really work?

Yes - it works very well

  • Please confirm use of mini DVI-Video (s-video) cable with Macbook

    Hi,
I have tried to use the Mini DVI-> Video cable with my new Macbook in order to be able to connect to my TV.
Unfortunately it doesnt work, I do get the resolution change when I plug in the cable but nothing on the TV. I went back to the local Apple center and they tested the cable on a Powerbook G4, it worked flawlessly. Then they tried a monitor on my Macbook's DVI port, it also worked.
But when trying the mini DVI to Video cable on the Macbook, no luck!
Can anybody please confirm they have used this cable and connected successfully to a TV?? Using either the s-video option or composite?
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Best Regards,
    Thomas
    G5 DP2.0, Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I can confirm that the s-video connection to a standard CRT TV using the mini-DVI video adapter does NOT work with my MacBook.
The display is detected, and when mirroring is enabled, the resolution on the MacBook display is adjusted, but the TV doesn't display the MacBook signal. Instead, I get a black screen or some random flickers of color. Following the instructions in the help files, I've adjusted the resolution down to its lowest level with no success.
My guess is that this is related to the fact that the integrated graphics relies on system RAM, and I am running my machine with the stock 512 Mb RAM it shipped with (2 GB are on their way).
On the off chance it would help, I even tried closing the display, in hopes that the memory savings from turning off the MacBook display would enable the TV signal, but no luck.
Thomas, how much RAM do you have in your MacBook?
Those of you who have been successful using external displays, are any of you using the stock 512 Mb RAM?

  • Basic s-video cable question

    hello,
I'm new to using a dvd recorder and am trying to hook it up.   My tv does not have an s-video port but the dvd player and cable box do.  I have the regular audio/video cables hooking the dvd player to the tv.. those work fine.  When i use those same cables to record with the dvd player, from box to dvd player they work fine also.  I figured since it was there i would get an s-video cable and use that.  So i have basic red and white audio cables hooking the cable box to the dvd recorder and it records audio ok.. but the s-video cable i just connected the cable box to the dvd player either doesn't work or i'm missing something because there is no video going to the player.
Basically am I missing something in getting the cable box to product video through my new s-video cable?
    thank you
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You should not have paid more than $5 for a s-video cable.  Next time, order from Monoprice.com.
The Motorola box always outputs through s-video, so if you aren't getting a picture, then you need to check two things.  First, make sure the s-video is connected to a s-video input on the DVD recorder, not a s-video output.  Second, you may need to change a setting on the DVD recorder to use the s-video input rather than composite (yellow RCA) input.
If you are the original poster (OP) and your issue is solved, please remember to click the "Solution?" button so that others can more easily find it.

  • Apple video cable technical question

I can not seem to find the answer to this question anywhere... I have the Apple component AV cable and the Composite video AV cable. I have measured the resistance of all the pins and compared to the posted pinout web sites.
I am confused about the pin 21 details (not sure if this has been updated)
I measure 500k pin 21 to ground for both cables
the composite video line comes from pin 8, the component connectors go to 8, 9 and 10.
My question should be clear by now, If the resistance on pin 21 (which should define what accessory is connected) how does the iPhone (and iPad) know which type of video to output ???
I am an engineer and this is driving me nuts, maybe i am missing something..
thx in advance for any details.

    Hello,
I've also tried to watch my video's on my iPod Video 5th generation on television, but it won't work. I can't see anything. On the iPod I've made the correct settings. I've used Apple's audio-video cable for an iBook and put it on a scart adapter and connected it to my television, because my television doesn't have AV output. It won't work. Any suggestions anybody?

  • Component Video Cable and Bumper Case

Just a head's up. If you have an iPhone 4 and a bumper case, the Component video cable will not fit properly when the bumper case is on. It inserts, but the cutout that fits the standard USB cable is too small for the plastic part of the cable that is larger on the Component Video cable.
When I tried to plug it in, I did not notice this the first time and got the "This accessory is not compatible" message. I also got B&W video. When I took the case off and the cable seated securely, I was able to get 420p video from the video I took with the camera. NOTE - The Component cable only supports 420p when playing on an NTSC TV. I was also able to see YouTube at 420p. I did not try anything else.
Hope this helps some of you avoid frustration

Yes I do live in Europe. But who says that Component Video Cable is a standart from USA or Japan. I have been using Component Video Cables to connect my DVD Player with my video projector since 2002. Component Video Cables are wisely used in Europe. And its the ONLY analogue way of transferring HD-Video (Plus DVI and HDMI)
What disturbs me alot is that on www.toshiba-europe.com they explain that my computer has:
    Interfaces 1 x headphone
    1 x DC-in
    1 x line-in
    1 x external monitor
    1 x RJ-11
    1 x RJ-45
    1 x i.LINK (IEEE 1394)
    4 x USB 2.0
    1 x Monitor-in (line-in port)
    1 x TV-antenna
    1 x S-Video-in (Composite/Line-in)
    1 x TV-out (s-video, Component-out))
1 x 5-in-1 Bridge Media slot (supports SD Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, xD-Picture Card)
Where is the Component-out ???Promise is a promise. Why do they say it if they dont give it?
Instruction manual also says that : D-Video port lets you transfer 525i(480i),525p(480p),1125i(1080i) or 750p(720p) data to external devices.
How can you transfer 720p with a Scart Cable?? It is impossible.... The only way that Qosmio can transfer 1280x720 picture is a Component Video cable.(Because it has no DVI port) How much does this cable cost anyway?? But the problem is NOBODY is producing it in Europe. I am writing to Toshiba-Japan. Since they are saying that my computer has Component-out so they must get me the cable....

  • IPhone video cable

I had been using the Apple Composite Video cable to play video podcasts to my analog TV. ios6 seems to have broken this feature and all I can get out to the TV is audio. Apple's web site shows the cable compatible with iphone 4,l but i don't think it's been updated for ios 6. I don't see a cable for the iphone 5 (on order). anyone have a suggestion for pushing video out in ios 6, iphone 4 and/or 5.

I have a Dynex 30 pin-> Composite Video adapter that works
fine with the Videos app, Netflix app, and Air Playit app.  It is being
used with a 64 gig iPhone 4S with iOS 6.0.  Having been stuck in a
motel with an old CRT TV been using it quite a bit to watch movies
    and some TV shows.
One thing I have done, is plug all the other stuff into the adapter
(including power supply), turn on the iPhone, then plug the adapter in.

  • SCART to cpt video cable

Does anyone know if a SCART-to-component video cable (eg http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/PGV375.html) will work with Apple TV?
Our Sony TV does not have cpt video - only SCART, S-video, and single-channel AV

Further to what Winnie has said, SCART can also carry RGB.
Given that you are using SCART, which tends to be european only, in the event of your TV NOT supporting component over SCART, I've put together a small web page on a few different converters.
    http://www.woggledog.com/mac/yuv.asp
They're not cheap, so you might be better off doing the HDMI > DVI > Composite trick.... details here: http://www.woggledog.com/mac/comp.asp
Sorry for the blatant plugging of my website, but it does have most of the info you'll need if your TV DOESN'T support component

What are compatible video cables for Nano 3g?
Is cable with headphone like jack and Composite/Component RSA connectors http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=B5F 4A608&fnode=home/shopipod/ipod_accessories/cablesdocks&nplm=M9765G/B compatible with Nano 3g?

No, you need the new cable that connects to the connector on the bottom, not the audio jack. The 3g Nano and Touch need the new cable.
