Lost iCal info, Firefox Bookmarks, and Security Permissions

I came home yesterday and work up my G5 and launched Firefox. It opened as if I just downloaded it and it did not go to my homepage and all my bookmarks were gone.
That was really frustrating so I restarted my computer and then then the generic Apple screen background appeared and all my programs in my dock were gone and when I opened iCal all my dates that I had inputted were lost.
Not only that! When I wake my computer from sleep mode, it is not asking me for my password.
Any reason why this is all happening. I plan to get as much data off the main drive just in case my computer is going south but I would like to know if this has happened to anyone else and what steps you recommend I take to remedy it.
Oh, and unless I did not look in the right place I did not see the backups of the Firefox bookmarks. Bummer.

I had previously had a major problem with an Apple automatic update and went thru lots of time and trouble, especially with Safari. After more time than I wanted to spend with Applecare...finally having to do a clean install...I was told all was okay. I still had Safari problems, so I switched to Firefox and was able to import the bookmarks from the old Safari. I was assured that the Snow Leopard was worth doing and would be no problem. So much for that advice. Most everything else seems fine, but all of my data on iCal is lost, as are the bookmarks in Firefox. When I tried to pull same up from Time Machine, I get the message that the version of iCal won't work with this version of Mac OS X.
don't restore the application itself. applications themselves never contain any user data.
it's all stored in your home directory. for ical quit ical and restore the folder /users/username/library/calendars and for firefox the folder /users/username/library/application support/firefox.

  • Windows 7 "Restore to an earlier time" lost all my Firefox bookmarks and favicons.

I have Windows 7 and Firefox 18.0.1 -- I did a Windows "Restore your computer to an earlier time", which I have done before with no trouble. This time, however, though I kept all my desktop shortcuts and IE toolbar icons, I lost ALL my Firefox toolbar icons and everything in my bookmark dropdown menu. Is it possible to restore them, and if so, how? I've looked through the Firefox support section, but don't know which (if any) of the solutions would apply to my situation. Thanks.

Is it possible to just sort links in Firefox Bookmarks and NOT the Folders?
In other words sort links A - Z but leave the Folders alone.

    Thanks

    Open the '''Bookmarks Manager.'''
Press the '''Alt''' or '''F10''' key to bring up the tool bar. Then select

Open the directory tree on the left. Find the folder you want to sort.
On the tree, right click the folder and select '''Sort.'''

  • I have used firefox for 3 or 4 years, today it would not open. I had to reinstall and start over from the beginning. I lost a lot of bookmarks and preferences.

Adobe installed an update, which restarted my desktop pc. After restarting I was unable to open Firefox browser. So, I clicked on Firefox, and then run as... first I tried running as... and chose my name. Firefox browser still would not open. Then I chose administrator which opened Firefox browser, but, as a new Firefox installation. It did contain add-ons, but not book marks, history, downloads or preferences. Now i have started over from the beginning. Is there any way I can restore lost bookmarks and preferences? Do you think system restore would help?

Are there still JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder?

  • How do I recover my lost Firefox bookmarks and user profile settings?

I accidentally clicked on Remove all User Profile Settings, Bookmarks and blahblah when I uninstalled my Aurora and now my Firefox has no bookmark etc. I tried using Recuva as recommended from the other questions but it didn't help me at all. I do not have any backup either.

Will other recovery software help? Because I tried using GetDataBack and I found some files that are not named .sqlite but rather .sqlite-wal or .sqlite-shm. What are those?

  • How can I export my Firefox bookmarks (and the hierarchical structure of folders) to the Scrapbook Add-On?

I'm trying to replicate the hierarchical structure of my Firefox bookmarks in Scrapbook and save the webpages automatically. Is that possible in an automatic (or easy) way?
    Many thanks

I'm not sure how Scrapbook works, but if you open a web page, can it automatically capture all the linked pages? If so, try this:
    (1) Export your bookmarks to an HTML file, and save it in a convenient locaiton (e.g., desktop). This article has the steps: [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]].
    (2) Open the file you just created in Firefox. You could double-click the file, or use Open from the menu, or drag and drop it on an open tab.
    Will Scrapbook work with that?

  • Where on my system is Firefox Bookmarks and Scrapbook Items?

My Macbook Air (10.6.0) has gone haywire as I can't find the Desktop or Finder and just have mostly a blue screen. The only thing I can access is the Menu at the top of the screen and I've been using File Sharing in System Preferences to move important files and folders from my crashed MBA to a new MBA 10.6.4 (just got it a few days ago).
I can't back up the bookmarks in Firefox as you would normally and then use that file to restore the bookmarks elsewhere, because my MBA is not working normally. I just tested this clicking on "Managing Bookmarks" and choosing 'back up'. I saved the file (it has an extension 'json' but the file appears nowhere on my computer. It might have something to do with the fact that I have run out of room on my Mac HD.
Is there another way to access the bookmarks? By perhaps going into the architecture of the HD?
That way I can add that folder to the list of items in File Sharing and transfer the bookmarks to my functioning MBA.
Also where can I find the Scrapbook items in the Finder?
I tried file-sharing the application "Firefox" but the icon is grayed out.
I remember when I tried to transfer the scrapbook items from my Powerbook onto my then new MBA (now old and crashed), I had to actually put Firefox onto a flash drive and then I just moved that onto the MBA. It took forever though to transfer and was a pretty big file (about 30GB). (I have at least a couple of thousand bookmarks and Scrapbook items.)
I can't do that this time because the Finder on the Macbook Air is not working – I can't access it, and I mostly have a blue screen.

I have the Desktop back again! I don't know how it happened. The computer opened in Windows so I restarted the computer pressing the Option key while it rebooted. I chose the Mac volume and when it booted, the Desktop came up!
There was a message that I had to make space as there was no room. I quickly deleted some files (about 2GB) which I can do freely now as I have saved the Desktop items onto the new MBA (using File Sharing).
I don't know how the computer filled up so quickly. Something went wrong during the backup of the computer. The back up got interrupted by the MBA's lid flying open and laying flat (the hinge is broken) and it all went downhill from there.
I think the fluke happened by the computer opening in Windows. Then when I opened it using the Option key so that I could choose the Mac volume as the starting disk, the Desktop and Finder reappeared!
It's great. I think there are a lot of duplicated files in the mac system somewhere (because I think files got copied onto the HD instead of the backup drive). However, my Desktop and Finder are restored which makes saving the data and doing a backup so much easier.

  • I lost most of my bookmarks and now can only save a few

Yesterday, most of my bookmarks went away with only about 12 remaining. In addition to this, now I can only save 12 bookmarks.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • I uninstalled firefox 4 because i cannont use 3 and 4 and the same time, but when i uninstall firefox 4, i lost everything such as bookmarks and my plugins

is there any way to get my bookmarks back?

I've been getting BSOD's specifically when clicking on items in FF 4.0/4.01. However, I *didn't* have this problem with FF 4.0 on my old computer (now dead). My replacement computer has one of these NVIDIA "Optimus" things going where it can assign applications to either the 'integrated' Intel HD Graphics 3000 (in the i7-2820QM CPU; driver version 8.15.10.2321 ) or the 'discrete' NVIDIA Quadro 2000M (driver version 266.96). As the NVIDIA GPU activity taskbar item shows that Firefox is running on the GPU currently shows that Firefox is running on the Quadro, I'm trying locking it to the Intel (using NVIDIA Control Panel Version 3.5.753.01) and we'll see what happens. All drivers are latest versions available from vendor (Lenovo).

  • Lost iCal info

I backed up my computer, had memory upgraded, had OS reinstalled and when I synced up my iphone I lost all of my calendar info. I tried going back to Time Machine to put it back but I don't know how to do it. HELP!!!! You can email me directly at [email protected]

I really don't know what topic this would go under but maybe someone can assist me....
I recently transferred data from my older Mac to my new iMac. On my old Mac, I had iCal set up such that I created many calendars and used them as "topics" in alpha order and when I clicked on the topic, there would be an info pane next to the To Do List that would show all the info that I input that related to the topic. On my old computer, to get it I would click the view menu, and the pane would show up with all the info. I could also drag the pane so it wouldn't be seen.
I'm wondering how I can view the information that I transferred over...all of the commands are not the same and I can't figure out how to view the "text". I have about 25 categories or calendars that had as much info as I wanted to for each. I still have my older computer and it's still visible but I can't figure out how to make this visible on my new one.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?

  • How do I copy my current Firefox Bookmarks and emails and settings in order to recopy them to a reinstalled Firefox later on

I am having problems with Windows Media Player and have tried all suggested options to sort it out. It was installed on my laptop when I bought it in Sept 2012 and is now causing problems that I can't resolve. In checking the player defaults and troubleshooting I discovered that the fie was created oin 21 Jan 2013, the same date I downloaded Real Player. This should have been Sept 2012 when I bought the computer. Has Real Player caused a conflict? = I don't know.
I now see no way out except restoring Windows 7 from the recovery disks made when I bought the computer or maybe downloading a new version of Win Media Player .
If I do a restore then I will lose my Thunderbird emails and my Bookmarks on Firefox - I would like to avoid this, if possible. Please let me know how and from where I can copy these and how I can upload/ recopy them when I am up and running with my reinstalled Windows 7.

hello, please refer to [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]. the same information also applies to thunderbird, which profile usually resides in %appdata%\Thunderbird\Profiles.

  • How to copy my Firefox bookmarks and paste them into another computer?

OK. I found an answer in a thread here but it is already closed. I have an additional question. The moderator said there:
    Quoting:
Depending on what you want to do there are a couple of options.
If you want to replace the bookmarks on the other computer with the bookmarks from your desktop, use the method in this link to backup the bookmarks to a file and then restore them on the other computer - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Backing+up+and+restoring+bookmarks
If you want to add the bookmarks from the desktop to those that already exist on the other computer, you need to export them to an HTML file, and import that file on the other computer. See these links for details:
    https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Exporting+bookmarks+to+an+HTML+file
    https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Importing+Bookmarks+from+an+HTML+File
I want to do the second one - "add the bookmarks from the desktop to those that already exist on the other computer"
The problem is that my Firefox is version 4.0. I read somewhere in the bookmarks topics that I should have done nothing before upgrading to version higher than 12.
The thing is my computer is 8 years old and I have only 512 MB RAM. There is no way to upgrade more that v.4.0. My computer can not handle it.
Any suggestions? Can I export and import with v.4.0 safely?

You would have to export the bookmarks to an HTML file on the old (XP) computer.
*Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Export Bookmarks to HTML
Then you can copy this file to an USB stick and import this file in Firefox on the other computer.<br />
Importing an HTML backup will merge those bookmarks with already existing bookmarks.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Open Directory)

  • Is it possible to restore lost windows? Firefox crashed, and only 5 of my open windows reopened, even though all settings are such that all should be restored.

Unfortunately when I restarted Firefox after its most recent crash, most of my open windows and tabs were not restored as they are set to do and as they usually do after a crash. Not that I enjoy Firefox crashing, but usually everything reopens and life goes on. However, after a crash tonight, when I next opened Firefox about 80% of my open windows and tabs did not reopen.
After this (most recent) crash most of my windows and tabs were not restored:
    bp-e7f145b9-04cf-4de8-a4a4-8e2952130816
This was the most recent prior crash where my windows and tabs were restored:
    bp-c674bdd3-e905-44c0-9bc9-6b4982130815
**I would love to have these windows and tabs reset, or at least be able to find a list of them to reopen them manually.**
I am running Firefox 23.0. My antivirus and antispyware were run overnight last night with no issues.
(This is on my desktop computer using Windows XP. I also have a laptop which runs Firefox 23.0 which uses Windows 7. Firefox on it crashes as well, but thankfully thus far the windows and tabs have been restored. I use it less than I do my desktop, however.)
    Thank you very much!

Thank you -- I will do so. Still, I'm very eager to restore (or find a list of) my windows and tabs that were not restored after the last crash. Is it possible to do that from the last working restore?
The last two working restores were after the crash mentioned above, bp-c674bdd3-e905-44c0-9bc9-6b4982130815, and before that, bp-7f5b697e-c4c5-4cb8-9b15-9318c2130815.
FWIW, I just updated to 23.0.1. Thank you *very* much!
