My laptop harddrive crashed. I have installed a new hard drive. I want to retreive all Firefox bookmarks and History. Is it possible? I use windows XP

I use a Windows XP Laptop and Firefox browser ( free don't remember the version). My hard drive crashed today 31.07.2011 and I installed a new hard drive with installed Windows XP. I have just downloaded Firefox 5.0.1 ( free version) and would like to retrieve all by previous bookmarks and HISTORY.

  • I have installed a new hard drive but can not recover from the HP 2 recovery disks

    My computer: HP Pavilion dv9825nr
Windows Vista Home Premiu. SP 1
My old computer (I have a new HP  laptop) had a bad hard drive so I bought a new hard drive  - 488599-001, as recommended by HP.
When I try to restore using the diskds I bought from HP, I get an error: 0x400110020000100A.
Windows does not recognize the hard drive and I read somewhere tghat the Vista restore disks are problematic.
I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Good timing for expert day :-)

    Hi:
If you think you did something in the BIOS, just set it to its defaults, save and exit.
Here is what you need to do to make your own vista disk...
If you're up to a slight but rewarding challenge you can make your own if you can read your 25 character Vista product key on the PC.
Just download the 3 files you need at the link below, and read all of the instructions to create a bootable DVD installation disk using imageburn.
Disregard the part of the text under the first screen shot about "extract the files to the Vista folder."
The files were already extracted to that folder when you ran the X14.exe file by reading the text on top of the first screen shot.
The other thing I noticed is on the 4th screen shot, where it shows Developer ID Microsoft Corporation. I had to type Microsoft Corporation in myself, and then the other codes automatically populated.
When I went to compile the ISO file, ImageBurn gave a message that about a WIM file and ISO, and if I wanted to burn it in a different format.
I selected No, make the ISO file.
It was not that hard to do. I burned both the 64 bit disk and the 32 bit disk in case I ever need them.
I tested both of them on my hp dc7100 CMT desktop PC, they worked perfectly.
When you enter the product key, it knows what version of Vista you have.

After you successfully install Vista, you can then install the drivers from your PC's support and driver page.

  • For those who have installed a new hard drive...

Like many of my fellow Mac-Heads, I am running out of storage spae on my little G4 12-inch. I have the 80G Fujitsu and would like to upgrade for more space. There are some 120G notbook drives on sale right now, and my scenario would go something like this:
    1. Get the 120G Samsung ATA drive
    2. Buy an eclosure to make the new drive an external drive
    3. Run Disk Utility and copy my 80G drive contents onto the new 120G in the enclosure
    4. Follow the online steps and intall the new 120G drive into the drive bay in my little G4 12-inch (looks fun and do-able!)
    5. Run this configuration for a while, maybe a few weeks, and make sure it is all kosher with the new 120G drive inside.
Once complete, this would give me a new 120G internal drive and a whole 80G drive of external storage.
Problem is, I am not sure that it would work. You see, the 80G drive is partitioned and do not know how this would affect my swap.
Has anyone tried this, and what effects, if any, would I incur in the trade? How would the formatting of the new 120G drive be affected, aside from the usual "loss" of a few Gigs in the formatting process? Would it end up only being able to see the size of the original drive? (I am technically competent in the physical swap so that is not an issue.)

I did this about a year ago, but I went from 40 to 80gb. I pulled the 40 out and installed the 80. I put the 40 into a firewire enclosure. I installed a fresh copy of 10.4 onto my new 80gb. And then I transfered all the files I needed from the 40 to the 80 - i.e. back onto my powerbook.
I was lucky in that I went from 5400rpm to 7200rpm and my little revision A 12" seemed zippy again. - till I crammed it full again within 6 months. The real solution is to have a honkin' external hd to keep the really big files on.
Of course, I backed up the 40 on a separate 40gb external before I began.
Haven't looked back and I now have a small 40gb "rescue" disk.

Here is a download site which goes back to CS3:

Or you may use this one, (t is crucial to follow all the initial steps precisely):

There are known issues with Yosemite, if that is the OS, but according to this site, someone has made Yosemite work with almost all CS/CC versions.

For a specific CS3/Yosemite issue, namely CS3 crashing on opening under Yosemite, this solution,
    1) Open System Preferences > Java
    2) Wait for the Java Control Panel to load
    3) Open Adobe Illustrator (while keeping the Java Control Panel window open)

  • I want to install a new hard drive on my 2008 MacBook but do not have the instillation discs that came with my computer.  Can I use instillation discs from a 2009 or 2010 MacBook?

I want to install a new hard drive on my 2008 MacBook but do not have the instillation discs that came with my computer.  Can I use instillation discs from a 2009 or 2010 MacBook?  The hard drive I am planning to install is a WD Scorpio Black 500GB SATA 2.5'' internal hard drive.

Sometimes they do work - i've done it before.  I have a late 2008 Macbook Uni and used the install dvd of my 2009 Macbook White and it worked.
Why not just clone your hard drive?  It'll save you a lot of time doing a clone rather than doing a clean install.
Unless you're having issues with your old set up or  your old hard drive is dead.
You can download Carbon Copy Cloner - install your new hard drive in a external usb enclosure (around $10) and clone fromt here then test it before you install it in your Macbook.
Once you've done the swap, you can install your old hard drive in the USB enclosure and use it as a backup drive.
    Good luck

  • I'm trying to install a new hard drive on my Touchsmart but the recovery disks won't boot.

The Touchsmart 300-1120 is only 1.5 years old and it's hard drive is already fried.  I bought a new hard drive, ordered the recovery disks, and it still won't boot.  I've changed the boot order to go from the CD drive first, but all it does is click and then give the same error message it gave when the fired hard drive was in.  I checked the diagnostic, and it can see the new hard drive...it just won't boot.

  • I installed a new hard drive and OS X 10.6  and now I don't have an App Store

I had to install a new hard drive because my previous one failed.  I installed the OS X 10.6 disk that came with my laptop and almost everything is back to normal, except that I do not have an App Store and my iTunes will not connect to the iTunes store.  What can I do?  I updated my software using software updates and nothing has changed.  Please help!

App store in added as part of 10.6.6 and later.  Make sure you have run all updates.  What version of the OS is reported using the menu item " > About this Mac"?

My Mac crashed. I got a new hard drive. I reinstalled Lightroom. Fortunately ircats are stored on an external drive. How do I import all of the old catalogues from external drive into a new LR catalogue. I have done it before. It has just been many years and I can't recall how.

If you had stored your catalog files on an external drive, then all you have to do is double-click on them to open them and use them.
Or you could move them to the internal drive and double-click on them once the move is completed.
To create a single catalog file from multiple ones, you could use File->Import from Another Catalog

  • HT201250 My macbook pro crashed and I had to install a new hard drive. I restored from Time Machine backup all the files from my old hard drive onto my new one.

Does it really back up the whole new drive or does it only back up what's been added? It seemed like it was doing the whole thing when I tried it. I stopped it. Don't want to use up all the space on my external. Is there something else I need to do or did I mess up by not doing the migrating thing? thanks!

If you installed a new hard drive, it has nothing on it and yes TimeMachine is going to take forever to restore everything back.
I guess you'll have to erase and start over again now.
Too bad, you should have made bootable clones in addition to TimeMachine, they can restore in a hour or two depending upon content, they are also option key bootable.
TimeMachine has to go through and calculate all the files it needs to bring forward, the files are strewn all over the drive. The read heads are moving all over the platters all the time from fast sectors to slow ones, not matching what's occuring on the internal drive.
With a clone the files are defragmented and optimized, the drive reads one file, moves the heads a tiny bit and reads the next all the while transferring exactly to the internal drive, they are more in step with one another, thus it's much faster restoring from a clone than TM.

  • I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program.

I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and upgraded the memory and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program. I can see the hard drive in the disk utilities window however it wont let me do anything.
It is a seagate 1TB SATA II drive however it is displaying it as a 7.3 TB.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
I have tried to erase and partition and get the same error message each time, 'Input/Output error'.
I have tried starting the thing with the install disk which is Mac OS X (Tiger?) which came with the computer. No good.
    Anyone?

Thats correct. I can see it in the list however when I attempt to erase it or partition it it's like it's not being found or recognised and it throws up the input/output error message. I am pretty sure that the sensor it attached correctly and it is a SATA drive. I can see all the infor regarding the drive when disk utility is open and it all looks good but I cant access it or do anything with it. It's taunting me!
The install disk is in the drive and the install program runs right up to the point where you have to select the location for the install and there is just nothing in the box where you have to select the hard drive icon.
I have my suspiscions about the drive but any help would be appreciated.
