Lost identity

AArrrggh!!
I changed my name in Finder next to the "Home" (house) icon. by rightclicking on it / "Get info" and then just wrote a new name in the name field, then I continued to work and all was fine. After a reboot OSX came up like it had just been installed. My Apps was still there and so was the files that was on the HD but my files on the desktop was gone and everything seemed to have been reset to the default wallpaper, menubar icons and systemsettings. But the worst thing is that my MS Entourage (Legal copy) acted as if it had just been installed too.. Where are all my mails/projects/adresses? Messenger also wants to start over so does iTunes (Maybe more)
It's as if OSX has lost connection to (or parts of) my identity. It changede the name back to the original name itself. I did a Disc perm repair with no luck either. In Library/preferences I tried to temp. change the MS filenames on the Plist files AND the "Microsoft" folder so that I forced it to create new ones - didn't help either. (have now restored the original MS files)
What's a desperate man to do? I really need my emails..
Really hope someone can help me!
Br Andy CPH

Hi Andy

  • Checkpoint Firewall Management Server Lost Identity in MARS

About a month ago, we added our Checkpoint firewall to MARS as well as the 2 Firewall agents who reported to the device. The devices were recognized and running properly.
At some point in the last week, the Checkpoint management server lost it's identity within MARS. Instead of being recognized as a Checkpoint device, the server is now considered a "Generic Router Version Unknown" via the Device Type.
The agent firewalls beneath this device still exist as desired, but MARS is no longer recording logs for the primary device.
I'm ready to remove and recreate the device, but I'm interested to figure out how this could have happened. Nothing in the Audit Trail points to any weird configuration changes.
    I've posted a picture here: http://pixpin.com/viewer.php?file=mars-checkpoint-j1zc.jpg

It might have to do with bug CSCse03097 - CheckPoint LEA record comes to MARS later and later for better understanding

  • Dynamic stamp lost identity

I frequently review documents and use a dynamic stamp to mark them as "Reviewed".  Up until now, the dynamic stamp included my name as well as date and time information.  The identity information is now missing and only includes date and time info - it seems not to pick up the identity info contained in the Identity panel in the Preferences dialog.  Any ideas on how I can restore full functionality (identity info) to the dynamic stamp? I'm using Acrobat ver. 8.2.3.
    Thanks!

Have you looked in the Acrobat JS API Reference?
    identity properties
    identity.name  is Name
    identity.email is the Email Address
There are no standard properties for Title and Organizational Unit.
You can use the following code in the Acrobat JavaScript console to see all of the properties and values of the identity object.:
    for (i in identity) {
    console.println(i + ": " + identity[i]);

  • Lost identity, again...

This has happened so often that I lost count, but again my user name is messed up in the Premiere Pro forums.
My user name now looks like: Harm Millaard-qz01ws. My profile is messed up as well and my picture disappeared. It always happens during weekends  and resetting it to normal will usually only be accomplished by tuesday after I have complained.
Often this also means that counters are reset as well and that the new messages on a forum now include everything that I have already read.
When can you get rid of this Jive crap. It is bad that your servers are down so often and cause serious delays and posting problems, but this forum software is so crappy , one can almost say the only reliable thing about it is that it causes problems with fantastic reliabilty. Not something to be proud of. Maybe you ought to have a look at the forum software used in your own pre-release community.

Sometimes it just fixes itself. I was away over the weekend and cannot take any credit for fixing it.
We are not sure we believe you, John. You have said that a number of times now, first to me more than a year ago. That excuse is becoming a bit threadbare.

  • Outlook 2011  - lost identity

I am a new user still finding my way and have Outlook 11 as part of Office 11 - no problem setting up 4 weeks ago and running happily till this morning when I opened Outlook and all my data had been wiped, contacts, folders, history all gone. A bit of digging suggests I must have moved something inadvertently like either the Microsift User Data or the Database Utility. It's 4 weeks of lots of mail traffic data I really need to restore....anyone got any ideas??
    Thanks

Hi there, I had something happen to me with Outlook 2011. After I installed Lion, I let spotlight rebuild, then opened outlook 11 -- and there was no email, no contacts, no nothing. I figured out that The lion install had recreated the Microsoft Identity file architecture under my specific username on this mac (with empty folders, obv), whereas before the Lion install, these folders were housed under simple under the Mac HD. So I moved the Mac Identity in the Mac HD --> Username/Documents/ and all was well. When I opened Outlook again, everything was there.

  • IMac lost identity?

Hello guys first of all excuse my lack of knowledge but I just switched recently. I purchased an iMac yesterday, the setup was smooth and I installed Office Mac on it with no problem. The default name on the little house to the left once you clicked the Harddrive on the desktop powermacg4a which I didn't like so I renamed it iMac and shut it off. Then this morning when I turned it on I realized that a lot of my settings (language, dock size, wallpaper) were reverted back to the default and the name on the little house also changed back to powermacg4a and I cannot access picture, music, movie folder on the left column. I also noticed now under Harddrive -> User there was now an iMac folder in addition to the powermacg4 folder. What did I do wrong? Please help!! thanks in advance.

The little house in your macintosh HD is known as the home folder. It sounds like you renamed your home folder, you didn't actually "officially" change your user name. To change your username you have to make the change in system preferences->accounts. Since you have two users on the computer now, delete the user which has all the blank "default" data in it, then log into the user which you want to keep- the one that has all your data- and go into system preferences and change the name. That should fix your problem.

  • Time Machine identity change problem

    I have a Iomega 1TB HD connected to a 500GB Time Capsule.
My new MacBook Pro i7 (3 months old and running 10.6.7) has been backing up across the home wifi via the Time Capsule network.
Recently the backup message has appeared that the identity has changed. It had been working OK previously and 2 other Macs in the house have been backing up to the Time Capsule as normal (not to the external HD)
When the identity is lost Time machine creates another sparse bundle and backs up the whole MBP HD again using up more space on the HD.
It takes hours to make anotherl back up.
I visited the Genius bar with little help, apart from run repair in disk utility on the external HD.
The HD did need repairing and I performed the Disk utility repair.
After the repair and new sparse bundle back up the lost identity has happened 2 weekends in a row, again today.
This is getting frustrating and I hope Apple can fix it.

You have to start over if moving to an AirDisk. The file structure of you local backup is different that of a sparsebundle that Time Machine uses to for NAS. This is the same for Time Capsule as well.
Converting your old folder structure backups to a sparsebundle is not for the faint of heart. Now you could still retrieve old TM backups by ctrl-clicking the TM icon on the Dock and select Browse Other Time Machines Disks whenever you need to, but you are best to start a new backup if you plan on backing up via AirDisk.
If you really want to try to convert your old backups to a sparsebundle, have a look at this link:

    http://rolf.haynberg.de/?p=83
Frankly, I don't think it's worth the trouble. Start a new Time Machine backup on the Extreme USB HDD. Just keep the old Time Machine backup until you feel it's of no use. Once that comfort zone has expired, delete the old backup.
Check this link before you start a new backup:

  • Since updating to version 8.0.1 many websites have lost their identity icon.

In the address bar and Bookmarks a lot of web sites have lost their identity icon in Firefox 8.0.1 (which were there before). Holding the cursor over the icon area brings up a message saying 'this site does not supply identity information'. But this message also comes up when putting the cursor over one ''with'' an icon. Some sites have the icon in Bookmarks but it doesn't show in the address bar. I have found it does not happen on Vista laptop, only on Windows 7 desktop.

Hi. I think there are two different things going on here. The "identify information" message relates to something unrelated to the webicon. From what I can tell it has to do with digital signing. I had to do some browsing before I found a site that actually ''was'' signed: Google. When you go to Google you'll see the site name to the right of the webicon with the url afterward. Holding cursor over it shows google.com's signed by Thawte Consulting. Oddly enough, VeriSign is not...um...verified. The story on this one will be interesting.
As far as the webicon goes, if you provide links to a few sites that don't work I'd be glad to take a look. I haven't had the problem yet on Lion or Win 7 Pro, but that doesn't mean anything. It could be the way the icon is identified or its filetype: .ico and .png files can be used (maybe others) and there are different ways to identify them: link rel="shortcut icon" or "icon" and type="image/x-icon" or "image/png" if a png file's used. Could be 8.01 no longer recognizes one of these or incorrectly stated ones it was OK with in the earlier release. All guesses of course w/o having something to look into.

  • 2008 R2 Server and Microsoft identity Management for Unix - Lost groups

I couldn't find a group that fit this one so I'm putting in the general group-  If their is a better group please reply with it -  Thx
We have 2 Windows 2008 R2 servers and  2 linux boxes running NIS/Kerberos.  One of the Linux servers also runs a secondary NIS server for performance reasons.  Unix Services syncs the account db in NIS format to it, the other server connects
and auth's directly off of the AD server.  We have had this setup for over a year now and it's run with out problem.  Today I ran the Microsoft Identity Management utility and lost NIS group on the Linux server that runs it's one NIS server.
On the Linux server that connects directly to the AD box the groups all appear with an id command from the command line.  It looks like the Unix for Windows services app nolonger will sync to a Linux NIS server.   I feel this is a bug due to
the fact that I recently update the two Windows 2008 R2 server to the latest patch releases a few days ago.
Does any one have a fix for this or could Microsoft look into it.

Can someone verify the following regarding Find My Phone:
I assume the lost device (iPhone) and the device (ipad) one uses to find the lost item must have identical Apple IDs , PWs as well as identical iCloud identification?

Back now.  Are you saying that you entered you iCloud ID and password in the Find My iPhone app (see photo below), and it said you don't have an iCloud account?  Are you sure this is the ID for your iCloud account (check Settings>iCloud next to Account at the top on the device you are trying to track)?
Also, did you try using this ID and password on icloud.com on your computer to try to track it, as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmfc0f2442?  Did that work?

  • I upgraded to Firefox 4 and lost my Identity Safe w/ Norton. How can I get it back?

''Locking, as this problem has been fixed by Norton - [http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720112959EN&pvid=nis-2011&selected_nav=5&layout= see this Norton support page.]
Identity Safe is a part of Norton and it keeps your login info safe. There was a little icon in the toolbar of the last version of FF and it's gone now.
I'm not sure if this Norton piece considered a plugin or extension but I use it throughout the day.

Yea, they say they will have it done by '''MAY'''!
Guess I'll just have to turn my computer off for 2 months while I wait.
What other Add-ons don't work? It sure would have been nice to know BEFORE I updated.

  • When i upgraded to 4.0 I lost norton's sign in bar for identity safe. It was on the previous release but did not transfer with the download. How do I get it back on my home page.

I had identity safe log in tool bar on my previous release of fire fox. It was extremely convenient for keeping and auto filling my many user names and passwords when I choose to log into it. How do I get it back without having to remove your 4.0 and going back to the previous release?

  • My Monitor has lost it's identity - How can I tell?

*How can I get my computer to recognize my Apple monitor? The monitor does not seem to be telling the computer.*
Today my monitor started to jitter. I restarted the computer and watched the monitor view jitter and then collapse. It soon became a jittery mess.
I removed the monitor and attempted to install a PC monitor that I had available. It plugged in but would not light up. I unplugged it and plugged my Apple Display Monitor back in.
Now it worked, but the width of the active screen is very narrow. I went to the system preferences and attempted to fix the display, but when I did the jitter returned, making my monitor unreadable.
I replugged in the non-working PC monitor and then replugged in my apple monitor to get a view. I have the view but it is a PC narrow view. The computer does not seem to recognize the apple monitor.
How can I get my computer to recognize the Apple monitor? The monitor does not seem to be telling the computer.
    - Thanks in advance for your help.

I found the Apple utility disk utility and used it. I am using an external LaCie disc burner. I clicked the Restore tab and navigated to the software & CD burner. The Restore button was greyed out so I hit the Burn icon instead. It worked.
I restarted with the disc and pressed "C". The disc mounted - success - but it said "this program does not work with this computer." hmmm.
Here's what I downloaded – it looked right?
    693-3994-A.dmg
Apple Hardware Test (Power Mac G4) - Size 11 MB
AHT for Power Mac G4 Version 1.2.6, for use with Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet), Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio), Power Mac G4 (QuickSilver), and Power Mac G4 (QuickSilver 2002), added support for the NVIDIA GeForce2 Ti video card with (Gigabit Ethernet and Digital Audio) systems, Power Mac G4 (QuickSilver 2002ED), and PowerMac G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors).
Here is from my system profile:
Machine Name: Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics)
    Machine Model: PowerMac3,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.9)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 500 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.2.8f1
Now which Hardware Software do I download. . .
The next Hardware Software in the list is:
Apple Hardware Test (Power Mac G4 Cube) - Size 18 MB
Apple Hardware Test for Power Mac G4 Cube version 1.1 CD for use with the Power Mac G4 Cube with CD-RW and the original Power Mac G4 Cube.
    Download Now
This does not sound like my computer. I guess I have to try.
    More stuff:
Today I tried a new experiment. I started with the 21" Display monitor connected but turned off. After start up I turned it on. The experiment failed. The monitor came on with the jitter.
I navigated blind to the System Preferences and the Monitor Display interface and hit something – some success – I accidentally lowered my resolution from 1280 x 1024 down to 1024 x 768. The jitter went away but I still have a narrow screen.
When I load the Apple Hardware Test Disk I am now able to do it without the Dead-Dell-monitor-switch.
