Lost memory 30G to 6G

iPod clasic 5th gen 30G is losing memory now only hold approx. 6G last week 9 and the week before 12G. I have tried to reset/reload only to appear to make it worse. Anyone else having this problem or have any suggestions to help?

Hi,
I assume you mean lost hard drive space verses lost memory as in the title of this post.
Boot up Windows 7 and go to Administrative Tools---->Computer Management ---> Disk Management and fully expand the screen.  Look over the sizes for all of the partitions.
BTW, what partition did you try to divide and why?

  • IPhoto fails, removes device (memory card), images lost memory on card lost

I've just recently began to experience problems with importing pics from my digital cameras' memory cards. I use a GE 24-in-1 USB Card Reader, and I have been using the delete after import feature on iPhone import, with no problems for a year, until just recently. I did browse and note some recommend not to use that feature.
I use 512MB and 2GB Sandisk, Toshiba, (and two new unused) Lexar SD memory cards. I remove the cards from digital cameras (several different models of Kodak, and in two Panasonic PV-GS500 camcorders in picture-taking mode) and use the card reader for importing. I've imported into iPhoto this way for a year, likely having done so 400 times or more with no problems. I've just been lucky?
But during import recently, iPhoto import stopped, and I got the device removed without being unloaded properly warning. The iMac hung, and I had to force quit iPhoto. Yep, I lost about all the images that had imported, both in the iPhoto library, as well as on the memory card--about 600 of the 900 images on the 2GB card. I started over, without the delete after import option selected, and was able to complete the download of the remaining images. I closed iPhoto, and used Finder to select and move to trash the images on the card, to clear the card and free up all the memory for the next use. But I noted that the memory available was incorrect, showing only 658.1MB instead of what I think a 2GB should show--1.87GB.
Something similar has happened again. During import (not having the delete after import option selected), import stopped, and I got the device remove warning again. No images were saved in Library, but all the images remained on the card, so I started over and did complete the import of all the images from the card, and they were properly saved in Library. I used Finder to move to trash to clear the card. But again noted that the memory card now only shows 704.7MB available, not the 1.87GB that it should.
Yes, I read today the recommendations evidently not to do the process in this manner, so I'm sure one suggestion will be for me not to use the delete after import option, and I guess I'm not supposed to use Finder to move to trash to delete the images from the card. But I note I've done it this way for a year, even using the delete after import option with no problems--until the past two weeks. And also I've allowed all the auto updates, one recently for iPhoto, as I recall, so maybe one of the updates is now part of the experience I'm having.
So is the recommended procedure to only import with the memory card in the device (camera or camcorder), and only to delete the images using the device? I can, of course, but the way I had been doing it was far more convenient, and seemed appropriate use of the software and options.
Also, is there anyway to format the cards so the complete memory is available? Related to that, I'm beginning to think I shouldn't randomly use the cards in the five devices I use (cameras and camcorders)? Until now this hasn't been a problem either. I've been randomly using the cards, devices, and card reader, again, for over a year....
To be fair, maybe I just haven't recognized the problem when it first started recently, as I just viewed the memory on all the cards, and now see that some of the 512MB cards are only showing like 179MB, 336.4MB, and 483.4MB--is the last volume what's normally available for a 512MB card?
I seldom use the 512MB cards in the camcorders, but haven't specifically avoided doing that, other than for the reason that when capturing images in the camcorders, I usually capture 500-900 images at a time, thus needing the 2GB cards to handle that. But I've often used the 2GB cards in the digital cameras randomly.....
Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated!
    Dale

Hi, OC. In addition to Terence's fine suggestions, let me point out (in case it isn't obvious) that after dragging images from your cards to the Trash, you must empty the Trash to recover the space the pictures occupied on the card. If you don't empty the trash, the pictures are still on the card, taking up the same space they did before you moved them.
But I'll repeat the oft-repeated recommendation not to delete anything from a memory card using your Mac. There are too many ways doing that can go pear-shaped. Erase or reformat each card each time you reinsert it in any of your cameras or other devices. The commands are there, somewhere in the cameras' menu systems.

  • Neo2 - Any fix for 'lost' memory?

On this board, I've read that it is normal for the BIOS to only see part of the memory if you have a lot installed. I've got 4x1GB installed, the BIOS reports a large number beginning with '3'; Windows System Properties says 3.25GB which works out pretty close in bytes to that reported by the BIOS. Is there any fix for this, since I'd like capable applications e.g. After Effects, running under XP x64 to have the option to access all the physical ram installed?

I would guess the history was lost when you consolidated your catalogs near the beginning of the process.  Can you remember what steps you followed to consolidate the catalogs?  There is no history if you have importing from image-embedded or sidecar metadata as that only contains the current state of the images, not all the steps followed to get there.
Most of the rest of what you talk about is a complicated discussion of why you don’t have any backups, which is interesting, but not relevant to the missing history, I don’t think.

  • Nokia 6300: Lost memory card = Lost applications

    Hi
Does anyone know if I can download the Collection software that came on the included memory card of my new 6300?
I somehow lost the microSD card and no way I'm i retracing my steps to try and find it. Ive ordered a bigger memory card but wanted to download the applications that originally came with the phone.
I've tried a few routes Nokia/Orange but no one seems to know. I'm looking to anyone out there who may have an idea.
    Many thanks
    Barry

I had the same problem and contacted Nokia help email,
    Solution
    1. Install Nokia PC suite on your PC.
    2. Have original memory card with games etc on it in your phone.
    3. Connect your phone by cable to your PC and select Nokia mode on your phone and File manager in PC suite.
4.Select 'memory card' in the window that appears and select all folders on the card, transfer the folders to your 'desktop' on your PC.
    5. Place your new 1GB card into a usb card reader and transfer the folders from your desktop to the new card.
    6. Replace the new card for the old and all should be OK, you are supposed to be-able to transfer direct from the PC to your phone but the 'Games & Collection' folders won't move !.

  • Lost memory card what do i do???

Hi, I just got a Nokia 5500 Sport and it came with a memory card, I lost it. I thought no biggy I was going to get a bigger one anyway... turns out that memory card had all the applications on it. Is there anyway I can get the things I need and put on the new memory card?
    Cheers Matt

It may actually be a blessing in disguise as you can now choose to install only the applications you want and leave out those you don't.
Application that came with the phone can be downloaded from Nokia support sites.

  • How to I get lost memory back?

I was following a step-by-step video on Youtube on how to get Arma 2 and DayZ for Mac. And I had to get VMware Fusion. After many hours, I figured it out. I got a virtual machine, Windows 7, on my Macbook Air. I had to do all this configuring and downloading, and when I created a hard disk, I added 60 gigabytes. 29 of them were for the virtual machine, the other 31 were for the Arma 2 and DayZ mod installation. Log story short, my Wondows 7 crashed. So I decided to delete the hard disk attatcged to it so I could get the mmory back. It wouldn't let me delete it. So I closed out of VMwar Fusion nd tried again. Stll wouldn't work. So I used an app called Disk Diagnosis. It's common on the app store, and I deleted my trash. BUT, I can NOT find it anywhere and I did not get my 60 gigabytes back. This is my brand new Macboo Air from Christmas, and I'm really sad that I lost this much memory when I was just trying to play a game. Also, if anyone knows about RAM, it is continuously dropping relly fast. And my app, Memory Clean, is cleaning it when it gets too low. Thank you.

Sorry, I was in a rush and i didn't correct my misspelled words.

  • Lost memory after OS update

I updated my iPhone 3G to the latest OS and during the sync I lost 1 gB of memory that is now in 'other'. How do I diagnose the contents of 'other' and get the memory back?
Admittedly at the same time the sync also loaded a new app but I hardly expect that to have used a gig of memory, and certainly not in 'other'.
    Regards,
    Si.

Nothing has been lost.  Instead there are simply corrupt files on the device.
Try restoring from your backup to see if that clears things up.  If it does not, then you will want to restore as new to clear up the corrupted data.

  • How to Recover Lost Memory Stick

I've lost my memory stick that I have backed up on my home machine. I'm wondering if there is a way to recover the data without the memory stick. I can't see the memory in time machine without it plugged in. Can anyone help me with this?

go to your Time machine volume in Finder and open Backups.backupdb. Inside there will be a folder with the name of your computer. Inside that there will a list of backups. open one made when your stick was backed up. You'll see a list of folders with the names of hard drive that were backed. open the one corresponding to your memory stick and copy what you need.

  • My ipod had lost memory it was 8GB now its 6GB

when i got my ipod i checked the memory it was 7.68GB, that was because it had the operating system ive done nothing to it and now its gone down to 6GB

    - When a second person registers an iPod, the iPod gets deleted from Your Support Profile. That is all you know.
    - The SN will only help idenify the iPod if it is recovered.
    - Apple will not help at all.

  • My iphone has no pictures on it and my memory usage from photo library is 6.2 Gigs.  How can I reset and get back this lost memory?

After resetting my phone, I re-installed apps and connected to my computer.  I made sure I didn't sync any pictures.  My iphone has no pictures on it, yet the memory usage on itunes AND the phone tells me that the iphoto database is taking 6.2 Gigs.  Is there a way to zero that and regain that memory?

I already tried to factory default the phone and restored it.  Same problem.... I have no photo's on my phone and still have 6.2 Gigs memory being used....  Pls help.

  • How can I regain lost memory on my iPad?

I just downloaded Marvel's The Avengers in iTunes onto my 32 gigabyte wi-fi only Pad 2 running iOS 6. When it finished downloading, I went to watch it, and it said "could not load movie". I got a little annoyed, but I decided to delete the copy I had and tried to re-download it. It turns out that the original copy that I had is still using up memory on my iPad. I had exactly 9 gigabytes of memory left, and now I have 4 gigabytes, so I cannot download another copy of it, even though the original SHOULD be gone. (The movie takes up 5 gigabytes.) what can I do? I don't want to lose 5 gigabytes of my memory to something that should be gone! Please help!

Did you delete the pics, or you just can't find them on your iPad?
If you deleted them, they are gone as there is no Trash Can or Recycke Bin. If you have a backup, retrieve the pics from your backup.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Ipod has lost memory soem how.

I just got finnished restoring my 30GB ipod video and now it says in itunes AND on the ipod that it only have 15.97 GB of memory anyone know why it would be at 15 and not 30?

Try re-restoring it. I have heard sometimes it can take a couple tries. Also do a couple resets first, then restore it. After restoring, you should have a bit under 28GB available to you.

  • Lost memory icon on n70 - PLEASE HELP

Please don't laugh. I have just bought an unlocked second hand n70 and then bought a memory card for it. While messing around I managed to remove the memory icon from the tools section. Now of course I cannot gain access to the card. I would be grateful if anyone could manage to stop laughing long enough to advise me how to reverse my stupid mistake.
    Thank you
