Lost old emails

I recently got my email address for college. I had been using it online through Zimbra with no problems and I decided to switch over to using the Mail application. I attempted the setup and thought that I had done it correctly because my whole Zimbra inbox was now in the Mail application, but i could not send or receive new mail. So I erased the account and logged back into Zimbra to find that my inbox was no longer there, all the messages I had ever sent or received were gone. Then I tried reconfiguring the Mail application and got it to work, because i was able to send and receive email from my other Yahoo email address, but now in the Mail application my inbox was not there. One thing that did happen though was that the Mail applcation seemed to be loading my old inbox. In the "Mail Activity" box there was a loading bar and it was receiving 22 messages, but they are no where to be found. Can anyone help me get my old mail?
also, during this time i was supposed to receive three important emails. is it possible that i will never receive them?

If you delete an account in Mail, your mail is deleted; that's why there's a warning asking you to confirm if this is what you really want to do. Unless you have left your mail on the Yahoo! servers, there's no bringing that mail back, unfortunately. If you were expecting some email from specific people during this time, I'd ask them to re-send it.
Those 22 messages are probably deleted messages. Check the View menu and see if Show Deleted Messages or Hide Deleted Messages is visible. If it says Hide Deleted Messages, that would explain why it sees an item that was previously there, but can't show it; and you should select Hide Deleted Messages so those don't confuse you in the future.

  • Lost old emails on hotmail

Hello,I recently have lost old emails on hotmail because I didn't know about settings in advance for mail preferences.  Nor do I remember a prompt or tutorial warning me to for choose settings to use the Mail account through my imac, yet save my mail in my hotmail inbox.  Now that I have requested to leave old emails on hotmail, is there any chance of getting back all those precious memories that I unknowingly deleted?

Were they stored in you inbox, or in a folder on webmail?

  • Lost old email and need to transfer music to new computer

My old email linked to an old itunes account was hacked and I no longer have access. I can't reset my password so i can't authorize my new computer to use the old music purchased. is there anything I can do?

With respect to backup, you were on the right track.  And I am not going to fault you for iCloud , but it is not really a system level backup facility.  And I would say the lightning comes under natural disaster.  Off-site can be taking a backup disk to a friend/family/office at work/bank safety deposit box, but somewhere that is not next door and is not in the same flood plain.  Or it can be a true cloud backup service (CrashPlan, Mozy, Carbonite, SugarSync, etc...).  NOTE: CrashPlan can be used in "Free" mode to backup across the net to a computer you control, or a friend/family members computer.  Just arrange to locate some storage there.  You can reverse the favor by hosting their CrashPlan backups on your system.
The new IMac has no firewire slot so it must be by USB . What about SATA?
You should have USB3, which is vary fast, and USB3 enclosure are not very expensive.  I would go that route.  If you want, you can get a Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor, but I would only do that if you have some Firewire drives hanging around your house you wish to use.  SATA is the cabling between the enclosure controller and the disk itself.  Macs do not use eSATA, so that is not an option.  Besides USB3 is way faster than your disk itself.
Bear with me. My grandson is helping with this. I am too old for it.
Dude!  While I don't have any, my "Younger" sister is a "Grandmother"!  You can do anything if you want to.  And you seem to be doing very will.
NOTE:  If the old Mac disk is "Toast", hopefully you can put the LaCie disk into the USB enclosure and recover using that.

  • Suddenly I've lost old emails in inbox, despite proper accountsetting. How to get them back?

TB worked fine, until today. I did not change any settings, not in TB and not at my emailserver. Still, my inbox now displays only the emails on the server; these are proper synchronised.
My inbox does not display anymore the older emails I keep in my inbox. They are not in the Bin, not deleted by me, not in Archives. How is this possible?

re: ''Still, my inbox now displays only the emails on the server; these are proper synchronised.''
As you have 'synchronised' the folder, I assume you use an IMAP mail account.
Please confirm that you use IMAP or Pop.
IMAP mail accounts see a remote view of the subscribed folders that are on the server.
So if your webmail account only shows eg: 10 emails in Inbox and in Thunderbird you only see those 10 emails in the account Inbox then nothing is wrong in that they are the same.
Are you saying that the emails were deleted off the server, so that they are also deleted in thunderbird?
    check: Tools > Activity manager
Does it say any anything about deleting loads of emails?
Do you know if compacting occured?
    One possibility:
Your Inbox folder was corrupted and then the folder was compacted either manually or automatically.
It removed all 'marked as deleted; emails, but as the folder was corrupted, Tb could not determine where the 'marked as deleted' email ended and therefore may have deleted good emails.
If this occured then there is no way to get them back unless you had a backup of your emails.
It is advised that you keep an Inbox for incoming new mail and move good emails into suitable folders for organising and compact the folder on a regular basis.

  • I lost my old email so I changed it on my laptop, how do I change it on my iPhone5 on the iCloud?

I lost my old email so I changed it on my laptop, how do I change it on my iPhone5 on the iCloud?

To change the iCloud ID on your phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • I have lost all my old emails

Hi I have lost all my old emails, I have looked every where I can think of but can't find them, I have not deleted them, hope some one can help.

If you are sure that you did not delete them, try this.
Quit the mail app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or try this. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

    Hello, nikkihutchins10.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are attempting to reset your Apple ID password.  I would try resetting your password via answering the security questions instead of sending the email.  The first article will walk you through that process.  If you are still unable to reset your Apple ID password, see the steps in the second article.
If you forgot your Apple ID password
Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security

  • Changed Apple ID email Ok,however old email still linked to iCloud lost that login password and can't retrieve or change it because that old email address is not active anymore.

    Hi all,
I had to change ISP and therefore I had to change my email address.
Did that easily for my Apple ID for both iTunes, iPhone and iPad.
However the email address for the iCloud somehow stayed attached to my old dead email account.
I can't delete the account off the iPad for some reason it still comes up with the old email address for the Apple ID.
I can't get an email sent to rectify it as it's dead! I can't reset it as my current Apple ID password is incorrect for that old email address.
Any ideas on how to rectify the issue?
    Thanks.

If the old ID is yours, and if it is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I am not able to play some songs on the iMac I purchased last July. They have to be authorized using an old email address and password. I no
longer have the password. How can I authorize the songs?

Click here and use Apple's iForgot service. If that doesn't work, contact the iTunes Store staff.

If you see that pop up you enabled icloud. Whether you want or do not want now to use it irrelevant until you actually disable activation lock.
In order to do that you have to change your apple id back to do that just long enough to sign in and back out. System will ask you to verify, don't.
Just sign in on the prompt you getting and then logout. Once done, change apple id to what you have now and verify. Then decide if you want to
use icloud (who does not want to be able to track their phone if lost or stolen).

If you don't know your password, don't know your security questions and don't have a rescue address or don't receive a reset email, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.
If you are in a region that doesn't have international telephone support try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support.

  • I have a macbook pro. Since buying it I have changed my email address and the old one is now defunct. Some software i can update fine but other software appears to be attached to the old email address which is greyed so I can't change to my new apple ID

Hi, I ahve a macbook Pro. Sometimes it tells me there are software updates but some of them i can't download because it wants me to enter an apple ID and its only giving me the choice to use my old ID with an old email address that no longer exists. I think its with itunes it does that.

If you have 'Find My iPad' activated on the iPad it will cause this problem. You will have to contact Support for help. Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; select 'More Products and Services', then 'Apple ID'. In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password' and click 'Continue'.

  • I just upgraded my iMac to the lion and set up the iCloud. I wanted to keep my old email account. How do I get it back.

I lost my old email address when I signed up for iCloud. Can I get it back and use it as my primary email?

Was your old email address a MobileMe @me.com or @mac.com one?

  • How do I retrieve "lost" sent emails?

Whilst attempting to rectify problems with my wife's mail program in Tiger 10.4.11, on her PowerBook 6.8 12" G4 laptop, I reduced the time from "Never" to "One Week" before sent emails are erased, believing that this would reduce the storage required on the ISP's server.
Instead I find that all old outgoing emails older than one week, are no longer available on her 12" G4 laptop, and my life has become ****.
How do I get Mail to display the "lost" outgoing emails?
The last backup of this machine was about two months ago, so I need to find and restore/import at least the past couple of months of outgoing emails, which have been erased.
    Advice please.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the missing messages have actually been erased. You might want to download the free trial of this software to see if anything is recoverable. I don't have any personal experience with it.
