Lost Safari Bookmarks on iMac

I have lost all my Bookmarks for Safari on my iMac (as well as on my iPhone).
I was turning my iPad in to Gazelle.com for cash and was taking apps off of it. I wiped out something on it that affected my Safari Bookmarks, but I'm not sure what. I assume a setting on iCloud or something. Can't be sure.
Anyway, how can I restore my Bookmarks in Safari? Any help is appreciated!
OS X Version 10.9.3
Current Safari Browser

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
~/Library/Safari
Quit Safari.
Select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window should open. Restore the file named "Bookmarks.plist" in that folder from a backup that predates the unwanted changes.

About my Safari bookmarks that are currently residing only on my iMac, I would like to see the same Safari bookmarks on my iPhone as well. Can I sync them from the iMac to the iPhone? Thanks.

Yes, but you will need to use iCloud ...

You get up to 5GB of storage for free.
And not just bookmarks >  Apple - iCloud - Your info up to date on all your devices.

  • Lost Safari Bookmarks on MacBook Pro after Sync with iPhone

I set up my iPhone to use MobileMe to sync with my two macs and other iphone (wife).
I lost all the Bookmarks on the computers within Safari.
    1. What do I need to change to avoid this in the future?
    2. Is there a place my Bookmarks have been automatically saved so I can restore? I have 'Time Capsule' and MobileMe.
If there is a way, can you explain?
    Thank you

Don't know why that happened, but Safari Bookmarks are stored in ~/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist (the ~ is shorthand for your home folder). You can use Time Machine to restore them.

  • Sync Safari bookmarks from iMac to devices

Can anyone tell me if there's a way to place my safari bookmarks from my iMac to my iPhone and iPad?

Activate iCloud on all the devices and select Safari in the settings. Your bookmarks will stored on Apple servers, so you should only do this if you don't mind sharing that information with Apple employees.

  • Copying Safari Bookmarks from iMac to MPB

I'd like to know the easiest way to copy my Bookmarks from my iMac to my new MPB.
I have a wireless network, and I do have a Time Capsule (used for back-up only, not as a router).

I'd like to know the easiest way to copy my Bookmarks from my iMac to my new MPB.
Copy the file ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist from the iMac to the corresponding location on the MacBook Pro, where ~ is the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon. Depending on your configuration, use a file sharing connection or an external drive to move it.

  • Lost Safari bookmarks

My husband has managed to lose all of our bookmarks when he "cleaned" them with Intego Washing Machine! I have tried to restore them using Time Machine, but have been unable to find them on the backups when I do a search. Surely Time Machine would have backed them up? I have not set any exclusions in Time Machine. Any help gratefully received!

    Firstly, welcome to the forum!
Your bookmarks are stored in the file found here: User>Library>Safari>bookmarks.plist. You should be able to find it in TM.

  • Lost Safari bookmarks and dock changed after shutting down

I shut down my computer at work while I was on vacation 2/5-14. When I turned it back on this morning, the dock was in a different place and was missing all the "keep in dock" icons I had added although the desktop clutter was still there.
When I went on Safari, the homepage was the default one and not the one I had selected. None of the bookmarks that I had been adding over 3 years was there either. No one used my computer and all I did was shut down on 2/2. The user is still highlighted as me. Can anyone shine a light on what happened and how to get my original settings back?
    Thank you!

    Hi and welcome.....

Check the hard disk for free space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If there's enough free disk space, launch Disk Utility. It's in your Applications/Utilities folder. Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left then select the FirstAid tab.
Click: *Verify Disk* (not Verify Disk Permissions). If Disk Utility reports problems, follow the instructions at this link so you can repair the startup disk. You will need your install disc.

  • 10.4.10 update lost my safari bookmarks

Just updated to 10.4.10, ran Onyx beforehand and immediately after I rebooted.
lost safari bookmarks, history is still intact. Where would I find it? I did make a backup using "backup", but not sure how to restore it via external harddrive, i'd like to use this as my last resort if possible. Thanks.
    Using Powerbook G4 1.67

I had this exact same problem happen with the lost bookmarks after updating. Is this solution for the external hard drive backup or finding them on the computer? Also, where do I copy the files across to?

  • I lost my bookmarks in safari on my iMac after I deleted them on my iPad.  Can I get them back on my iMac?

I noticed my iPad and iMac synced Safari bookmark lists after an upgrde to my iPad OS.  I deleted some of the bookmark folders off my iPad, but now they are gone from my iMac Safari as well.  Any way I can restore them?  I looked at earlier posts, but could not find the bookmarks.plist file to back up from Time Machine.  Any ideas?

  • I lost my bookmarks and history when I stop safari

    Hello everyone
I lost my bookmarks and history when I stop safari and start it again !
I reset safari and remove it and redownload it again
    But still the problem
    Please ! HELP ME !

    * the problem existed since I purchase my imac

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

I do it again hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously and the Ipad turn off and on again with the Apple logo but it still is hanged on the same point. I have do it a few more time, it still hanged to the same point for few hours with no change (like picture):

So my case is this: at the moment everytime I hold the Home and Sleep buttons the Ipad always off and reappear with the Apple logo and be hanged on (like the pic), and I need restoring my Ipad Safari bookmarks... so I guess I need using Itune or something to get back the Ipad then using Icloud or blah. Please guide me for the step, Im not sure if connect to PC, if any that my Ipad data would lost, or is there anyway that I also can get back Ipad Safari Bookmarks after connecting to PC, also the how using Icloud. There is no Apple store or service store in my country so I think I must do it my self. Feel free to share your guide, thanks.

  • I had a data migration done from old iMac to new iMac, how do I use that file to find my old email contacts, Safari bookmarks, etc ?

I recently had a data migration from old iMac to new iMac 11.2
How do I use that data file to get old email contacts, Safari bookmarks, etc ?

FireWire cables are dirt cheap and that's how you should be doing the migration. You might have to start over, wiping the new machine's HD, and restoring the software as described in the Everything Mac manual that came with it. See Best Practices and Setup new Mac for more details.
