Lotus Notes Application in Visual Studio

Hi All,
My company currently has a old VB application running in lotus notes. This imports a XML file, calls a stored procedure on a SQL DB tranforms the file, calls another stored procedure, then loads the file data into the SQL DB.
We are now looking at migrating it to a modern platform. I was initially thinking of creating a new visual studio 2008 or 2010 SSIS solution. But I have found the rules of the transforming have not been documented and so are buried in the Lotus
Script\VB code & modules. So unless the rules can be documented into logic loops so I can't apply them to the XML nodes. I have also found Artin Soft
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/ff793478 free upgrade tool but this is for VB6.
So I have two questions.
1. Is there an lotus notes reference in Visual Studio 2010 for lotus notes classes such as NotesSession, NotesDatabase, NotesDocument? So the VB package could be opended and understood by visual studio.
2. Can anyone suggest another migration path from lotus script to VB.net?

Visual Studio itself does not support Lotus Notes script.
Visual Studio official does not provide some references for Lotus Notes. I can’t ensure whether you said Lotus Notes is identical to IBM Lotus Domino, based on
this document, IBM provides some supports for using Lotus Domino in Microsoft .Net App. So I suggest you to consult on Lotus Notes to check whether they provide some supports for migrating
Lotus Notes script to VS2010 Visual Basic .Net, I think that they can provide you better answer.

Is it possible to use Firefox to debug javascript files when running a web application using visual studio 2010

I am trying to debug a ASP.Net web application within visual studio 2010 using Firefox. I am able to set breakpoints in my C# code and they work but if I set a breakpoint in a javascript file then these do not work when using Firefox. Is there any way to do this?

Of course you can. I use the VS2010 built-in Javascript debug tool a lot, not only for IE, but also for firefox.
I encountered the "break point not working" issue several times, according to my experience, following is the solution to this problem, give them a shot:
1. There maybe errors in your javascript code, have a close look at your code, try to find the errors or eliminate this possibility.
2. Sometimes you have to refresh the page once after the page is loaded the first time. This solves the problem most of the time.

Known Issue: Windows Emulators Are Not Supported When Visual Studio Installed in a Virtual Machine (Windows 10 Insider Preview SDK and tools, April 2015 release)

If you install Visual Studio 2015 with the Windows 10 Mobile emulators in a virtual machine, setup will succeed but the emulators will not be available as valid debug targets.

The Windows Emulators require a physical machine that runs Windows 8.1 (x64) Professional edition or higher, and a processor that supports Client Hyper-V and Second Level Address Translation (SLAT). The emulators will not run when Visual Studio is installed
in a Virtual Machine (VM).
The emulators for Universal Windows app development work best with Windows 10.

How to show the buttons of Lotus Notes Application at the BlackBerry device?

At the company I work for we use BlackBerry with Lotus Domino 7.x. We have a Lotus Notes Application (LotusScript) that read information from Oracle db and send email messages to users. In the e-mail we have three buttons, when we click on, they start an Oracle package with web browser. When the users read this message in the desktop, the buttons appears, but when they read it from Blackberry, they can’t see the buttons.
Any idea how to make these buttons show at the BlackBerry device?

Hi,
I will explain more.At my company we have a workflow application. The users can approve and deny when they receive an email by Lotus Notes, because we have a lotus script that read information from the db oracle and send email messages with the three buttons(approve, deny, question) for the users. The problem is when we read the email from BlackBerry, the buttons didn’t appear.
The Os version is 4.2.2.175.
I have an image with the example. How can I send for you ?

Does anyone have any experience of migrating a Lotus Notes application to HTML DB ?
Are there any tools available/proposed/in development to allow this ?

While I have not done any Lotus Notes migrations myself, I did help a customer (a large US Federal Government agency) perform a migration.
The lead Lotus Notes developer was tasked with re-building a system in HTML DB. He knew little about Oracle, PL/SQL, Relational Databases, and HTML DB. They are now days away from going live with a very comprehensive HTML DB application.
Some of his comments about HTML DB were that the power of a Relational Database and the ability to exploit that power is something Notes lacks. He was also impressed with the declarative nature of HTML DB, which was similar to Notes - this made the transition much easier for him.
At this time, there are no tools planned for Lotus Notes migrations.

SharePoint Connection not available with Visual Studio 2013

I've installed Visual Studio 2013 in my SharePoint 2010 environment. When I try to add the existing SharePoint Connections I've used in Visual Studio 2010 there is always the same error: Remote SharePoint site connections are not supported. The SharePoint
site is located at the same server, I'm able to access the Central Administration with Visual Studio 2013, but I can't access my development SharePoint Web Application.
I'm sure I do have access to the configuration database, in Visual Studio 2010 I'm able to delete and add SharePoint Connections without any problems. The URL of the development SharePoint connection (like sp1.sharepoint.contoso.com) is not named like
the URL of the Central Administration (like servername:5000). The port of my development SharePoint is 80, but I can't access with servername:80 too. My account is in the group of the local administrators, Visual Studio is started as Administrator
and my account is a SharePoint farm administrator and additionally a site collection administrator of all site collections in my SharePoint web application.
Any idea what's wrong with this SharePoint connections?

Can you try the following workaround and see if it helps? First try adding host entry for your server name and if that works change it to sp1.sharepoint.contoso.com.

I understand your situation is different than the one mentioned in the blog but given you seem to have all the permission so may be you try and see if the error is because of above issue. Actually if above does not work (assuming your are on your development
environment), try adding your account to DB Owner on your site collection database as mentioned here.

Compact Server 4.0 not working in Visual Studio 2014 app

I have an application that uses Microsoft SQL Server Compact version 4.0. The application works on Windows 8 and it works on windows 7, but it doesn't work on Small Business Server. I created the application with a compact server so it would be flexible
enough to be installed on anyone's computer. The error I am getting is as follows
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
(provider: sQL Network Interfaces, error: 52-Unable to locate a Local Database Runtime installation. Verify that SQL Server Express is properly installed and that the Local Database Runtime feature is enabled.)"
I verified that the install folder has permissions and the application is running as administrator. Does anyone have an idea of what else I should check? I was looking at Visual Studio and I didn't see how to set "remote connections". Plus the
application works on my machine (where it was designed).

SQL Server Compact has been deprecated from Visual Studio 2013. Refer to this
connect item.
According to the error message, I recommend you install SQL Server 2014 Express or SQL 2014 LocalDB, which can be downloaded from below link.

LocalDB is created specifically for developers. It is very easy to install and requires no management. While LocalDB is meant for developers, the regular SQL Server Express will continue to exist as a free SQL Server edition, fully compatible with and easily

Ctrl+Tab not working in Visual Studio 2013 in Remote Desktop

My PC is W81, and I'm RDing into a W7 machine running Visual Studio 2013 SP4.
When I press Ctrl+Tab (and hold), I very briefly see the usual editor window list come up, but it goes away and the editor does not switch.
If I hold Ctrl+Tab and let the repeat start, the same thing happens in rapid succession, but the current tab still never changes.
I have of course rebooted both client and server, and made sure my keyboard wasn't at fault and toggled all the keys. No dice.

Sorry, but that doesn't get me the original behavior, where I can tab through the list or double-tab, triple-tap TAB to visit the last, second to last, or third to last file I visited (or I could use the visual navigator). I frequently use these commands,
and it's really slowing me down.
Can I please get an admission this is a bug and a commitment to fix it?

SQLE_COMMUNICATIONS_ERROR while running SFA application from Visual Studio

I am trying the SFA (Sales Force Automation) example.
I am using the Windows Mobile 6.0 emulator from Visual Studio to run the application.
When I go to the "Configure" button, change the configuration values and try to Save, I am getting the following error.

Hi,
Finally I fixed this issue.
I ran the SybaseServerSync.v35.CAB on the device emulator. Then tried the program. It worked. This helps establish the synchronization between the device and the SUP server. This CAB file can be located at the path <UnwiredServerInstallationLocation>\UnwiredPlatform\ClientAPI\RBS\WM\ServerSync.

UnityVS (VSTU) not outputting to Visual Studio from OSX Unity

I'm using UnityVS (VSTU) with VS 2013 in an OSX VMWare Fusion Windows 8.1 VM. Everything seems
like it's working fine (the debugger is connected to the Mac Unity instance) except that the unity console output is supposed to be output to the Visual Studio output window, but it appears not to be. I feel like I followed all the instructions correctly.
Is this just a bug with remote debugging or am I doing something incorrectly?

RoboHelp in Lotus Notes Applications

Probably a basic question - - but in my world extemely
important. I'm in the process of evaluating RoboHelp 7 for possible
purchase for my company. We want to use it as a help application
for four of our Lotus Notes-based applications. Does RoboHelp work
with Lotus Notes? What I see in the documentation is - - "WebHelp
is a Adobe output type that is designed for authors who want to be
sure that end users can view their web-based or desktop application
Help on virtually any browser and platform." It doesn't really come
out and say, "Yes, RoboHelp works with Lotus Notes appliocations."
Any insight?

Domino developers I worked with hadn't the foggiest notion
what to do with WebHelp files, but they did know how to call
external html files stored in a Web environment.
Our solution: I published WebHelp to a company Intranet
server. The "Help" link on the Lotus Notes page pointed to the
appropriate help topic, in a format like these:
... (Intranet URL path)/helplaunchfile.htm
A separate IE browser window opens to the default topic.
and
... (Intranet URL path)/helplaunchfile.htm#topicA.htm
A separate IE browser window opens with Topic A displayed.
Sadly, our Notes developers didn't know how to test whether
help was already open, so each new call opens a new window. The
user can browse through help files, but must close the window
before going back to the Notes application to avoid piling up a lot
of help windows.
Best solution is to convert those Notes applications to a
Web-based approach, in my opinion. That doesn't go over real big
with Domino developers.
Please report back on your solution.

Hi!
from notes client 5.0.9 onwards, the client registeres itself as a so-called HTTP protocol. This means that you can launch a notes resource via a browser URL.
Type the following in your browser:
1) notes:///names.nsf to open a local database (e.g. your personal adress book)
2) notes://<server>/<path>/application.nsf to open a notes database on the server
The missing step is to create an iView. Since the standard URL iView does not accept the notes:// protocol you have to create a intermediate HTML page and pass your notes:// resource as parameter. To do so, please perform:
1) HTML page: notesprotocol.htm
<html><head><title>NotesClient Integration</title>
<script type="text/javascript">

</script>
</head>
<body onLoad="LaunchNotes()">
<h1>The Notes Desktop Client is launched...</h1>
</body></html>
2) iView:

Instead of creating a HTML page you can also create a JSP or a simple Domino web application for doing this job of translating HTTP:// into NOTES://.

I get this error when I try to publish my cloud service application from Visual studio.

Error: Network_not_available: The network is down so authentication cannot proceed.
This happens when I want to sign in with my azure subscription.

Could you login on azure portal (https://manage.windowsazure.com) using your username and password? From the error message, please make sure your VS could connect the internet firstly.
Secondly, Which version of VS did you use? I suggest you could open "Server Explore" tab from VS and expand the Azure node to check you whether connect to azure.
Thirdly, you could download your azure subscription file and import to VS (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/avkashchauhan/archive/2012/05/10/downloading-windows-azure-publish-settings-subscription-configuration-file.aspx

Visual Studio 2012 MFC C++ Win32 Compiled Application wouldn't run on Windows XP... FIXED!

Converted a large Visual Studio 2005 MFC C++ Win32 Application to Visual Studio 2012.
The compiled Win32 Application worked fine in Windows 7 and Windows 8 but not Windows XP.
Found these 2 links which were very helpful on fixing the issue.

Sounds like a plan.
We are experimenting with Visual Studio 2012 on the Metro Style for our applications. So far, Windows 8 and Metro Style are extremely frustrating to me.
Have VS2003 and VS2005 which is where most of our executable program code has been generated.
We also have VS2008, VS2010, and VS2012.
The ultimate goal was / is to convert a very large MFC C++ Program from VS2005 into VS2012 Metro Application... and VS2012 is fighting me every step of the way... Mostly linker errors at the moment... and that is just trying to do the DirectX Initialization
for a Video Window without building the Video Graph.
Oh well... The fight continues!
