Low memory problem drawing a route with MKAnnotationView

Hi!
I'm drawing a route like it's done in http://spitzkoff.com/craig/?p=81 but i'm not loading de coordinates from a file, i get the coordinates from GPS with CLLocationManager.
The problem is that my app crash with low memory in the device. I guess it's the way i'm drawing the route.
In - (MKAnnotationView *)mapViewMKMapView *)_mapView viewForAnnotationid <MKAnnotation>)annotation i can use dequeueReusableAnnotationViewWithIdentifier: like i do for the PinAnnotation?
And if doesn't exist i can make initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier: ?
Should this solve my problem?
Does AnnotationView's consume much memory?
Thanks! And sorry for my bad english

  • PE8 Low Memory Problem

I have newly installed PE8 on a Quad core, 4GB Mem, 6 TB Hdrives, Win XP SP3.
Open new project import 5 jpg photos (less than mb each), select them and add as group slideshow.  As soon as the work area starts to render each of the pictures I got the "low memory" warning and basically the program stops responding.  I am appalled that only 5 photos brings it to its knees--somethng is wrong
I have tried almost everything, (virtual memory is managed by windows all 6gb of it), defragged disks and virtual disk page file (ms sysinternals),  cache is set to its own hd with 750 GB of space.  I submitted this problem to adobe tech support and got referred to tech articles which did not help.  I have tried running with msconfig turning off everything but it still does not work. I have done more reinstalls than I can count.  More puzzeling is the fact that I monitor the ms process explorer from sysinternals and it show lots of physical and virtual memory available when the low memory warning occurs. I have reset the prefs and just about everything else but nothing works.
Attached is screen shot of PE8 and the Sysmonitor at the time the error occurred.
I have installed this same file into win 7 machine64 bit and it appears to work so I know the program works on other OS and machine, but I really need  to work on my main photo processing machine (ie the Win XP).
I have seen many other similar post for memory related problems, has anyone found a cure?

Like you, I come from a 30 year career as an advertising still photographer. Back in my dark past, I got a degree in cinematoghraphy (video was basically live feed to air in a studio back then, or live capture to 2" video tape, for delayed broadcast.), but had so many still clients, that I really had no time to use my studies in film.
Fast forward some years, and digital image manipulation caught my attention. Most of my images were assembled in the darkroom via analog compositing, and when I saw my first Scitex computer, I knew that I was looking into the future. In a few years, Aldus introduced PhotoStyler for the PC, and PageMaker for layout. The future had hit my desktop. Shortly thereafter, Adobe introduced Photoshop for the Mac, and then for the PC. I shelved PhotoStyler for Photoshop 2.5 and never looked back. Though I still shot film, soon everything was digitized and on my computer, before delivery. Aldus sold PageMaker to Adobe, and the development team for PhotoStyler went on to form Ulead.
Everything I do now is digital, but still every image goes through my computer. I too work in .PSD format and keep that workflow all the way to my video production. I seldom use JPEG, unless a client hands it off to me, or I need to do a Save_As for a client's Web site. I just do not like the compression, even at low levels (high quality levels), and have always had a very powerful computer (for each generation), so large files were where I was most comfortable.
When I began producing video (DVD-Video), I explored the best was to maintain the ultimate quality, and tested extensively, how my NLE handled the large files. I became convinced that the results were better (to my trained eye), when all manipulations were done in Photoshop, rather than in the NLE. I could see the difference, and wanted the ultimate, for both me and for my clients. I also liked the ultimate quality control from PS, rather than leaveing the "decisions" to the whims and limitations of the NLE. When I moved to PrPro, I tested again, and found the results from PS to still be superior. Now, I do have to admit that I have not tested with each version upgrade of PrPro, or with PrE, and I am sure that they have improved, but still rely on PS for everything. The biggest plus for me, regarding PrPro was that it COULD handle my .PSD's, so no conversion, even to TIFF. I'm with you on the need to work with .PSD's, or .TIFF's, at the least. One reason that I rely on PrPro for sitll image work is that I can Import a Layered .PSD as a Sequence, keeping my Layers. I can then animate each Layer, as I want and do so quite often. This inability to Import my un-Flattened, Layered .PSD's into PrE is a big drawback. Until PrE adds Sequences, I do not expect this to change. Still, if one does not need to animate the Layers and retain them, PrE's ability to just work with .PSD's is a really big plus.
For me, to date, PrPro does everything that I want, but I can see the benefits of a program, like ProShow Producer, so I'm exploring it. I'll probably pick up a full-paid copy, just to test it's workflow and output vs PrPro. Right now, I'm waiting on the next big SlideShow Project to "buy" ProShow Producer for me.
I am still working with SD Projects, but will soon add HD and export to BD. I believe that this will get me closer to that quality "Holy Grail." Of course, this will also bring an upgrade for my workstation, my OS and a new video camera, plus a BD burner. It will be with this output in mind, that I will be testing ProShow Producer, plus PrPro CS4.1 (or whatever version it's up to by then).
Now, I'm looking less for any automation in the SlideShow production, mainly because I am a "control freak." I want complete power in the editing suite. The only use for automation is for batch processing my stills for use in an NLE, or SlideShow production program. I understand the allure of the automation to most editors, but that is just not my personal style. My workflow is much slower, but then I enjoy determining every aspect of every image.
Let me know what you think of the ProShow products, as I will greatly appreciate your observations, especially as you come from a background very similar to mine.
    Good luck,

  • Low memory problem in nokia c5-03

I wanted to install the Viber application for Nokia on my phone. But the memory is low and a message is displayed "Low memory on C".  I have deleted all my messages and images are also not present. I have checked the phone memory the total size of the contents is 21.3 kb. I have a phone memory of 75.4 MB, but the free space is just 2.99MB. There are about 30 MB SIS applications and 42MB 0f Other files. Can i delete these files??
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Memory Full: Delete or remove some data from C: Phone memory"
The phone notifies you if the phone memory or memory card memory is getting low. There can be different error messages shown this situation, e.g.:
"Memory Full: Delete or remove some data from C: Phone memory"
"Disk Full : Automatic retrieval of mailbox for exchange disabled"
To free phone memory, transfer some data to the memory card with the File mgr application (select Menu > Applications > File mgr.). Select or mark files to be moved, select Options > Organise > Move to folder and then the destination folder.
In order to free memory, you could also remove or move the following:
Messages from Inbox, Drafts and Sent folders in Messaging.
Retrieved e-mail messages from the phone memory.
Saved Web pages. Clear the web browser cache to free some memory (select Options > Clear privacy data > Cache).
Saved images, videos, or sound files.
    Contact information.
    Calendar notes.
    Downloaded application packages.
If there are applications which are not needed any more, uninstall them (select Menu > Settings > Data mgr. > App.mgr. > Installed apps.).
Any other data that you no longer need
If possible, use the memory card instead of phone memory in the Camera application (select Options > Settings > Memory in use to define the memory where the images are stored). You can also use Nokia Suite to transfer images and video clips to your PC.
If you are deleting multiple items and any of the following notes are shown: Not enough memory to perform operation. Delete some data first or Memory low. Delete some data, try deleting items one by one (starting from the smallest item).
LAST OPTION Is hard reset TYPE in *#7370# code os 12345 if asked.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Nokia C5-03 Low memory problems ( Other Files )

Please help. I have a nokia C5-03 the handset is showing phone memory is full. I have checked and uninstalled all unecessay applications. But problem is still there. when i check the phone memory it indicates that i have other files of 42mb installed and using phone memory. however i am unable to check what other files are installed or classfied as other files. Can you please assist me so i can know what these other files consist of or where they are located.

    Hi Thetao,
I typed a more extensive reaction before, but it got lost when I pressed "post". Therefore I just respond to the main points that you mentioned (and some I found out myself).
Strange: I can't find the 40 MB Maximum User Storage on the Nokia website anymore (nor the 75 MB). But it sounds very familiar to me. It looks to me as if they removed this from the phone specs, also of other Smartphones by the way.
Yesterday, I deleted some small apps that I don't use (anymore) such as InternetRadio and I also removed Nokia email. Although the apps were below 2 MB together, this freed up over 7 MB of Phone memory (24 MB free now)! I think there were still some old emails stored in C: which I couldn't delete any other way. This helped me a great deal already but I tried your suggestions as well.
    1. No map data or CITIES folder on C: 2. Switched messages memory to phone (and phone to offline mode) and I did indeed find a forgotten email account with 30 email messages. Not much but I had 24,7 MB free after that. Of course, I put messages memory back to the memorycard. 3. Used the free edition of Y-Browser to manually delete the cache folder. Not much data in that, but 25,1 MB free after that. Nice tool, with which you can reach folders that normally stay hidden! Used YBrowser to search all C: for files over 300 kB. Only 2 files: boot_space.txt in C:\ (500 kB, contains only the X repeatedly as far as I see, but is probably essential for the operating system) and C:\resource\python25\pyton25.zip (1 MB). It looks like an installation package, but I'm not sure if I can delete it. By the way: YBrowser hasn't made a shortcut in one of the menus. Only way that I found to start it was to look for it using the Phone's search function. Is there a way to make this shortcut myself?
    4. Yes I did. No Images folder on C: anymore, nor other big files (see point 3)
    5. I use Bluetooth for file transfer sometimes, mainly for installation files (such as YBrowser.sis, but I did this one via USB-cable). However, no big files are left on C: so I don't think I have this problem.
    6. I tried to delete Nokia Chat yesterday as well (with the other apps), but it won't be uninstalled the normal way as it says "Uninstall cancelled" (not sure about the exact translation since my phone 'speaks' Dutch) Do you know if there's another way to get rid of this 3 MB app that I don't use at all?
I think I may have found an explanation and a solution for the memory problem while navigating. You mentioned the "memory in use" in the map settings. Above that option there's a slide bar for the % of memory that the navigation can use. Standard is 70%. I always thought this was about storage memory on (in my case) the memorycard. Another topic mentioned that this the working memory (so the RAM) that the navigation may use. Setting it to 70% means there's only 30% left for other apps that run in the background. The other topic states that this is nog enough so the slider should be set to for instance 30% for navigation leaving 70% free for "the phone". From behind my computer, navigation seems much more stable. I'll try this setting in my car soon and let you know how it works.
Thanks a lot for thinking along with me so far! There's already 25,1 MB of space, which is great since it was only 7 MB last Sunday. And navigation looks more stable. I'd appreciate if you have some more answers to my latest questions, but if not I think my phone will work a lot better already!
    Regards, Paul

  • [Athlon64] memory problem i need help with pleeeeese

Hi anyone, I have just fitted a new motherboard type K8T Neo with VIA K8T800 and VT8237 chipsets with a new AMD sempron 2800 cpu.  I fitted 1 @ 512mb pc3200 400mhz ddr dimm, but it only registers 256mb.  I have tried the memory in each of the three slots with the same results.  I have tried the memory in another pc and it seems ok.  Even when i fit the memory from the other pc with my new memory (giving me 2 @ 512mb) it still only shows up as 256mb.  Both memory works fine in other pc.  Anyone got any ideas.  Many thanks in advance.

I'd be bummed too. The Sims 2 is a great game
Just a couple of questions for you though.
Is this a fresh install of Windows or at least a REPAIR INSTALL (if running XP).
What are the specs of your power supply.
These could be factors. Also your graphics card does meet the minimum requirements for the game but it may be working the CPU extra to compensate which requires 12v as does the CD ROM and hard drive. Running the Sims 2 uses all of these and then add in fans. You may be pushing the limit on the PSU.
Any time you change out the MB a clean install of XP is very important or at least a REPAIR INSTALL. XP is still looking for, and wanting to use, your old hardware.

  • A1000 low memory crashes

IdeaTabA1000L-F, android 4.1.2, kernal 3.4.0, serial HGC1W5PYMany months ago i came on this site looking for a solution about my low memory problems, d/l a updated software fix for this which lasted a whole day. Installed an external sd card and moved irrelevent data to it, and still had problems. Lastly, just yesterday, i did a factory reset, and basically started over. My tab is telling me there are no updates and im running the latest version. On the web, playing games etc, i keep getting low memory warning in upper corner, and the browser crashes. Even with all the cache empty. Please help me so i dont do like the little kid on the nationwide commercial and throw this down on the cement!!!!!

Exchanging an ipad for a software problem is not a solution. I am replying to everyone who complains about crashes. The ipad air along with OS7 was apparently rushed to market. It amazes me that the previous version of the ipad along with the operating system is more stable than the ipad air. How do you release something inferior to the previous model. I spent a lot of money on the ipad air because I purchased the model with 128mb of RAM. If I could go back in time I never would have done it based on the problems with this new OS.

  • TO NOKIA : I'm bored of that freaking "low memory"...

    Guys,
I'm sure I'm not the first one who met the problem :
Installing apps (whether from "extras-devel/testing or classic way) must not be a problem!
when you provide a 32GB tablet, extensible thanks to a SDHC, you can not restrict the space.
You must be aware that we can no more receive SMS or IM messages due to this problem!
and the solution must not be to remove applications as I can read !
You must allow us to use at least 16GB, and ESPECIALLY SEPARATE THE SPACE DEDICATED TO SMS/IM and future MMS.
Thanks for solving this problem soon,
and FYI, Russians users found a way.... which you must transform in order to be an automatic way to free space.
Guys, I'm reaaaaaaalllly disapointed of the "low memory" showed by the N900 when I install apps!Seriously guys, the fact that we must delete some apps (even if they are coming from extras-dev or testing) to be able maemo keep running, is BAD.How can we justify a 32 gb internal memory + 16gb on sdhc when we're limited that point!???the Russians found a way... ok, but why not having a better program allowing more things than currently? Thanks, and regards
PS : N900 users, please talk about this problem as well!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Ok here's some more accurate information..
The device has two flash units.. the OS flash is 256 Meg.. it has the core of the operating system held on it.
There is also the eMMC flash.. this is 32gig and is split 3 ways:
768Meg: Swap space for assistence when running lots of aps..
2Gig: OS expansion, used when installing additional packages
28Gig: Media volume.. where user files are kept..
When you save a document, image, video, whatever it is stored on the media volume.. When you connect using USB mass storage, you're accessing the Media volume..
Because the device is Linux, it can't keep applications on the Media volume.. The Media volume is FAT32, Linux programs are kept on UNIX file systems (in this case ubifs and ext3)
So.. Nokia have split the eMMC storage to allow applications to be installed onto a 2gig partition..
This means that package developers HAVE TO USE the 2gig partition.. this is described as "relocation to /opt" in packaging terms.. Many packages DON'T do this.. this means they try and cram themselves into the OS 256Meg partition.. when that fills, it all breaks..
If you've installed a package that doesn't install into /opt (and therefore onto the eMMC 2Gig volume) then you run the risk of upsetting your device.. The package maintainer needs to re-package the software correctly .. using /opt.. then the problem goes away..
2Gig of Linux/Maemo software is an AWFUL lot of Linux software..
If you're experiencing low memory problems, its almost certainly due to the poor quality of the package.. That will get fixed in time, but what Nokia have done really isn't that bad..

I want to ask something about firefox.
why firefox use very much memory?
can you develop to reduce memory comsume?
this problem is very distrub in my PC with low memory.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

How much memory is Firefox using right now?
    # Press '''CTRL+SHIFT+ESC''' to load the Task Manager window
    # Click the Processes tab at the top. (Click once near the top of the window if you don't see tab
    # Find firefox.exe, and see how many kilobytes of memory it's using.
Showing around 80MB when Firefox first starts is normal. Right now, I have 75 tabs open and it's using 500MB - this varies a lot depending on what you have in the tabs.
Other than high memory usage, what other problems are you experiencing? (Examples include slowness, high CPU usage, and failure to load certain sites)
Many of these issues, including high memory usage, can be caused by misbehaving add-ons. To see if this is the case, try the steps at [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]. Outdated plugins are another cause of this issue - you can check for this at http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck

  • Crashes with low memory

All the apps crashes after a few seconds with a low memory note. I have a iPad 1 with OS 5.0.1. I already tried to reset the iPad and restored a backup, but the problem is still there. I disabled iCloud, but nothing helped. Anyone who can help?

Go get an app called system status.  Load it up. Then double click to see the task bar.  You can see which apps are eating up your availalbe  memory.  Mostly it will be safari pages with lots of graphics or video.
From time to time, open the task bar and shut down the programs you are not using.  While most of them are idle, they do consume some memory.  In theory, iOS is supposed to do that for you, but sometimes that function Just does not work well.
A hard boot also releases memory.  Press the home and sleep buttons until the aple logo appears. Ignore the red slider.

  • I have a version 7.0.4.  I can't connect to the server.  My capacity is 13.5  with 10.4 GB available.  Diagnostics and usage data, when scrolled to the bottom, tells me I have low memory.

Clear Safari, close all apps on the iPad and reboot. Then see if you can connect.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to each app then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If you still can't connect to the internet, you need to do some more troubleshooting with the network connection, but report back with more details if that doesn't work and don't just repeat the question in the text box are that you have to describe the problem. That serves no purpose at all.

  • Help with 655 Max and Possible Memory Problems...

Just recieved my 655 Max and have put my system together, but when I turn it on it makes a constant beeping sound. I tried taking out both memory sticks, lol, and turning it on and the sound stops, I tried putting in one memory stick and the sound starts again.
I suppose this is a memory problem.
by the way I am using Corssair 256mb CMX256a-3200C2 memory.

[The alarm that you are getting is the CPU Fan Alarm you will have to diable it in the Bios. I am using a Vantec Aeroflow  heatsink and my CPU alarm also is constantly on and was very annoying till I disabled it. My system still doesn't boot to XP yet as I have RMA'd bothe the MB and Ram.   QUOTE]Originally posted by TritonB7
Hey Kaiguy the comp does continue to make sounds till I shut the system off. And I'm not sure how a standard pc tone sound would sound like, :(. But it does make beep followed by a lower pitched beep, and it repeats this till I shutdown the system.
    (1) I cannot Access Bios.
    (2) I have two sticks of Corsair 256mb CMX256a-3200C2 memory. I do not have any other ram available that will be compatible with this motherboard. Ive tried using one stick at a time in each of the slots. No Luck.
I highly think that both sticks not working is very unreal.
    (3) and reseting bios by the jumper isnt working either.
I can probably try buying some diffrent memory, or returning the whole mobo and exchanging it for the same one.
By the way on my monitor when i turn the comp on it says 8x Extreme or something close to it while the comp is beeping. I doubt that, that has anything to do with it. This is my first MSI board :( , I've always been an Asus person but Im still open for MSI i'm sure I just recieved a faulty board.

  • Memory Problems with Adobe PDF iFilter for 64-bit

In preparation to rebuild my Windows Search Index, I installed the Adobe PDF iFilter for 64-bit on my system (Vista Business 64).  When I finally rebuilt the index, I wasn't too surprised by what I saw happen, namely, the SearchFilter.exe process would kick in whenever I wasn't using the system and just eat RAM.  One time I turned it on and it had allocated over 4,000 MB (and my system only has 4,030 MB available) so of course it was forcing all the other processes to hard fault (ie. everything was moving like molasses--for example, it took 20 minutes to put the thing to sleep).  But I just let it do it's work, figuring that perhaps this was to be expected relative to the small library of PDF's that I've accumulated on my computer, ranging from LaTeX generated text files, to containers for hi-res scans.  So, after a day and a half of basically not using my laptop, everything finally calmed down and I enjoyed the benefits of searching the content of my library from the Windows Start menu--for a short while.
However, to my dismay I've encountered the problem that this freezing of my computer would now occur after everytime I download a new PDF (in this particular case they were Google Books scans) and then left the computer to idle.  Again, the SearchFilter.exe would allocate all of my RAM for itself and just push everything else onto the Virtual RAM, which means the SLOWEST possibly fetching you can get.  I had to uninstall as this was making my computer unusable for 15-30 minutes after each idle. Everything is back in working order without the iFilter, but I would like to know if anyone has reported such problems on x64 systems.  Obviously, I will also report the problem to Microsoft, since the search engine should certainly have the precaution to handle such memory problems.   However, it is a problem that is created by the Adobe PDF iFilter interacting with the Windows Search engine.

    Hello,
We believe we have figured this out.  It looks like it has to do with the length of the default folder location for the Adobe iFilter.
I was able to reproduce the issue and the following resolved it for me.  See if this resolves it for you all as well.
Here is how to get Adobe Version 11 PDF filter to work.
1 . If you haven’t already, run the following in SQL Server:
    Sp_fulltext_service ‘Load_os_resources’, 1
    Go
--you might also need to run:
sp_fulltext_service ‘Verify_signature’,0  --This is used to validate trusted iFilters. 0 disables it. So use with caution.
    --go
    2. Stop SQL Server.  (Make sure FDHost.exe stops)
    3.
Uninstall the Adobe ifilter (because it defaulted to having spaces or the folder name is too long).
    4.
Reinstall the Adobe iFilter and when it prompts for where to install it, change it to: C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFiFilter
    5.  Once the installation finishes, go the computer’s Environment variables. Add the following to the PATH.
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFiFilter\BIN
NOTE: it must include the BIN folder
NOTE: If you had the OLD location that included spaces, remove it from the path environment variable.
    6. Start SQL Server
    7.  IF you had an existing Full-text index on PDFs, drop the full-text index and recreate it.
    8. You should now get results when you run sys.dm_fts_index_keywords('db','tblname')  --Note: Change db to be the actual database name and tblname to be the actual table name.
Give this a try and see if this fixes yours.
    Sincerely,
    Rob Beene, MSFT

Tracing through the application, it appears that most of these TTCItem objects are created when the statement is executed (not when prepared), therefore I would have assumed that they would be released when the ResultSet is close, but this does not seem to be the case.
We tend to have a large number of PreparedStatement objects in use (over 100, most with closed ResultSets) and find that our application is using huge amounts of memory when compared to using the same code, but closing the PreparedStatement at the same time as closing the ResultSet.
Has anyone else found similar problems? If so, does anyone have a work-around or know if this is something that Oracle is looking at fixing?
    Thanks

From your mail, it is not very clear:
    a) whether your session is an HTTPSession or an application defined
    session.
    b) What is meant by saying: JSP/Servlet is growing.
    However, some pointers:
    a) Are there any timeouts associated with session.
    b) Try to profile your code to see what is causing the memory leak.
    c) Are there references to stale data in your application code.

    hi,
we have some memory - problems with the WebLogic Application Server
    4.5.1 on Sun Solaris
In our Customer Projects we are working with EJB's. for each customer
transaction we create a session to the weblogic application server.
now there are some urgent problems with the java process on the server.
for each session there were allocated 200 - 500 kb memory, within a day
the JSP process on our server is growing for each session and don't
reallocate the reserved memory for the old session. as a work around we
now restart the server every night.
How can we solve this problem ?? Is it a problem with the operating
system or the application server or the EJB's ?? Do you have problems
    like this before ?

  • Memory problem with jdk/jre 1.1.8

    My name is BERGMANN Yannick.
I'm working for IRM in Li?ge and we developped an application (user interface for an industrial measurement system) in Java (JDK/JRE version : 1.1.8).
We have a big memory problem with this application :
    - This user interface is running on a WINDOWS NT PC with 128MB.
    - This is the command to lanch our application :
    C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.1\bin\jrew.exe" -ms32m -mx32m -cp "\Program Files\HMI\HMI.zip;\Velocis\Add_On\Jdbc\raima.jar;\Program Files\Swing-1.1.1\swingall.jar" be.irm.hmi.kernel.HMI -t15 -d"Velocis rdstcp" -newdb -mf1m -mr20
    - When our application is running, everything seems to be OK in memory for it. The garbage collector seems to work properly and our application has always at least 5MB free memory (We use the java instruction "Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory()" to know this).
    - But when we look in the "Windows NT task manager" for the "jrew" application, the memory increases ALWAYS.
    - After 5 days our application is completely frozen and blocked ...???
    - here is a memory map of our Windows NT PC :

Have you any idea of what is happening with "jrew" in memory ?
We have had this problem for six month and we are totaly out of idea.
If you can give us any idea, we'll appreciate a lot.
    Thanks in advance,
    BERGMANN Yannick

We had a memory problem with a swing applet in our company. The major reason for this was that we added new components in a JTree and removed them later again, and the components we removed were never garbage collected. This was because with these components we added different listeners, and we didn't remove the listeners after we didn't need the components anymore. After we corrected this, the components where garbage collected.
Perhaps it's a similar problem you have, or I have no idea. Check that you remove actionlisteners, mouselisteners etc from components you want to be garbage collected.
You could also test your application with OptimizeIt to see what objects you create and how many you get of them over time: http://www.vmgear.com
