Front Row Movie Player Problem

I have lots of movies that are all in .avi format. I watch them regularly on my computer with VLC, but I can not seem to get them to play in Front Row. I can find the movies that I want to watch, but when I click to play them the screen is blank and there is no sound. The length of the movie, however, does appear and it acts as if the movie is being played. Is there any way to use VLC as the movie program in Front Row?

Adobe Flash Player Problem: "Movie Not Loaded"

new user to mac.
i'm getting more and more frustrated with this computer.
what's bugging me the most right now is
i am unable to view videos on certain websites.
rather than showing the content,
a white box appears.
when i right click on the white box,
it says "movie not loaded" (in gray) and adobe flash player 9 (in black).
i can't click on the gray line.
when i click on the black line, it brings me to the adobe website and tells me adobe flash player 9 has been successfully installed.
i am fairly sure this has nothing to do with heavy traffic.
any insights on how to resolve this issue?

Flash Player 9 OSX problems

I’m running a Mac 1.5 Ghz Power PC G4 laptop with a gig
of ram with an OS of 10.4.10. Using Firefox version 2.0.0.6.
The problem is flash player will not work unless I run
“Applejack” followed by reinstalling Flash Player 9
OSX. This will work for a day or so it then stops working showing
the ghosted QuickTime logo with a question mark layered on top of
the logo.
What am I doing wrong?

I'm having trouble too. I'm using an Intel based MacBook,
running OS 10.4.10. I've tried downloading flash player several
times and each time it appears like I've installed it until i'm
brought to the adobe page saying i've completed the installation,
but then i'm prompted by my browser to install flash player...
which i thought I just did! And now I can't go on any webpage that
requires flash player... my older version was deleted. I really
need help, There are a lot of pages that I need to access, that I

What is the best movie player for mac mini from 2009

i have a mac mini from 2009 and my problem i can't play movie's. My OS X Version is 10.5.8. When i installed the movie player "VLC" version 2.1.5 mac for 32 and 64 bit i get the information " you can't this version from vlc media player with the version from mac OS X use.

Totem Movie Player not playing files online

well Hello. I have one problem, when i try to play Video online, like this site: http://www.lrt.lt/ltv-LT-high.asx (it's for Lithuanian users) tv online, to watch olimpiad, i get nothing, it just auto cancel playing.
Well then i tryed to add that Link into Totem Movie Player GUI in Computer, to play from program, not from firefox or any other browser. Then i get this error:
[b]An error occurred[/b]
The playback of this movie requires a application/x-mmsh decoder plugin which is not installed.
I tryed sudo pacman -S x-mmsh, but it founds nothing to install.

I arrived here via google after experiencing the same problem. I got it with kaffeine (that is based on xine), with the current version in testing (I did not try the other one). Of course you need to install the packages of codecs as well.
But still you need a workaround in these KDE applications (kaffeine, amarok, etc): The workaround is to replace the http:// part of the url with mmsh://

QT "invalid public movie atom" problem - iPod Classic

I encountered a strange "invalid public movie atom" problem relating to my brand new iPod classic (80GB):
I used QTpro 7.4.1(14) to convert several movie/avi files for iPod (the standard procedure via the offered converting methods).
After copying them to the iPod via iTunes, they showed flawlessly on the iPod and i was also able to watch them on my TV.
Then i converted another file, copied it to iPod and tried to start the video, the result was a fuzzy green screen (like some encountered it with the album art) and the the iPod crashed (restarting automatically with the grey apple-logo screen).
I did this a second time, it crashed, and after restarting again, i tried it with one of the videos that worked fine before. One of them then caused the same problem, green fuzzy screen, restarting automatically!
When i tried to open these two files mentioned with QT from the movies folder in my iTunes library, i got the "invalid public movie atom" message and, well, the videos don´t play anymore. (keep in mind, they played before!)
Important: i did a clean install about two weeks ago, installing all updates (OSX, QT, iPod, etc.) before doing anything else. The first videos im talking about are older, but worked well after the cleaninstall/update procedure was done. Since then nothing was changed and now suddenly the problem appears?!
Some thoughts: i read here in other posts that A the iPod sometimes crashes because of that "album art problem", but that doesn´t have anything to do with video?! B since it worked before (the last days since i did the clean install) the bug , or whatever it is, "appeared" based on another issue?

There is a little piece of code that tells iTunes which movies can be played on iPod. It is called the iPod Atom. If you have a movie that is fully compatible with iPod BUT doesn't have this atom, it just won't sync regardless the movie can actually be played by the iPod. I have been having trouble with these little bastards myself...
My guess on your problem is that the converted movies weren't 100% compatible with your iPod but they had the atom so they synced. Some AVI movies plays partially on QT.
May I suggest that you instal Perian which adds a lot of codec handlers to Quicktime and try to re-encode some of them.
On my side, I have been trying to find how to insert the aforementioned iPod Atom on movies that have already been encoded so I don't have to re-encode them again... But that's my personal quest. Good Luck!

Change Flash IDE default player in OSX?

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the flash player
that Flash IDE uses? As far as I know, it uses the special
debugging version of the player. For some reason this player runs
much slower than the regular standalone player in OSX.
So I'm trying to figure out if there's a configuration file I
can edit or something to have it launch the standalone player when
using the Flash IDE.
There's a "players" folder Inside the main "Adobe Flash CS3"
folder. I tried swapping out the player in there in the debug
folder but it didn't seem to do anything.
I know there's the nifty flash switcher app that does exactly
what I need, but it's only available on the PC.

about in this thread.
Your problem is discussed in the thread '[ADOBE] Resolving
Mac Flash Player install problems 9/2007'. Check that out and you
should be able to resolve it via permission repair.

Flash Player 9 OSX Install Question???

Greetings! Recently my Flash Player stopped operating, and
prompts came up on screen to go to Adobe's website to download
Flash Player 9 OSX. After double checking which version to
download, I proceded with it's installation. After the download was
over, the prompt came up again as not having the Flash player.
Here's a copy of the prompt:

but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME

Why does it keep cycling itself back to saying I don't have
the software? Am I missing something here? I've tried so many

If you have the luxury of living near by a Certified Apple
Store... go there! Purchase the "ProCare" card, and they'll do a
REINSTALL the latest OS X 10.4.10. Worked IMMEDIATELY after the
reinstall... no problems since. Good luck, Matt!

Leopard DVD player problems

every time I launch the DVD player program it crashes instantly i've tried to restart cause I thought it might need a restart but it still does even after the restart.

I too am having DVD Player problems, though certainly not that consistently. About 1 in 10 times I start up DVD Player it will immediately dim the screen and display in front the multilingual "you must restart your computer" message. Never happened with Tiger, but that was also a different computer. Doesn't matter whether I'm playing a VIDEO_TS folder or whether I'm playing a disc, doesn't matter whether there is even a disc in the player or not. For VIDEO_TS folder doesn't seem to matter if the folder is local or on a network. Also, I have had the same effect when viewing VIDEO_TS movies through Front Row; thus I think the problem may be pretty deep in the OS's video code, perhaps even in the driver. My system has Santa Rosa motherboard with x3100 built-in graphics.

Finding Flash Movie Player to associate SWF's

I'm not sure how it happened, but my computer will not
associate SWF's with the Flash Movie Player. There is not an option
to associate it to Flash within the simple "Open with" option, nor
can I find the Flash Movie file to associate to the SWF within
Control Panel/Tools Folder Options/File Types. (Yes, the
FlashPlayer is already installed on the computer.)
When flash webpags online is not a problem, it's trying to
view a swf that resides on the computer.
Any suggestions?

I'm fairly new with the video in flash mylself, but have done
a little. If you go to file>import video, all you do is follow
through the steps that it gives you. You'll have to decide whether
you want to embed your video or have it as a progressive download
as well as compression and quality. If your project is for the web
then embedding will make your file size bigger so probably not what
you want. After following through, flash imports the video and adds
flv player to your library, that's what you would put onto your
stage. The flv player is also customizable so you can get the look
you want. Should be stuff in the help file if you wanted to do more
with customizing. Depends on if you want buttons for the user to
use, or just have it auto play with no controls, your choice. Don't
forget a preloader if your movie is big. Hope this helps get you
started.

QT Movie Player vs. iTunes

My downloaded TV shows look fine when viewing in iTunes ... Howerver, when I try to play them in the Movie Player (which I like to do, because I like the controls better), they have white artifacts all over the movie once it is enlarged 2x or 3x (full screen).
Can anyone tell me what causes this, and if it can be fixed. I'm pretty sure this started to happen after upgrading to QT 7.x

Uh, no, they couldn't. The videos from the iTunes Music Store are all in protected h.264 format which can't play in versions of QuickTime prior to QuickTime 7.
If you haven't updated to QuickTime 7.1, you might give that a try, since among the problems is addresses is some issues with playback of h.264 content. If that doesn't help, if you have any third-party codecs installed (DivX, 3ivx, etc.) you might try removing them and see if that makes a difference.
