Lumira 1.17 without HANA

Hi All,
Need your help with a small question.
Is HANA required in my landscape if I want to share Lumira 1.17 visualizations on BI Platform?
As far as I know, HANA is required only when
1. I want to create some visualization on the data which is residing in HANA
2. I want to share visualizations on Lumira Server
Please confirm.
Thanks in Advance,
Purnima

Yes that is correct today.
You can also copy the visualization to clipboard (copy) and paste it, as well as to print it.
We are working on additional options for easy offline sharing - such as export but that will take some time before we can release it in the product.

  • Lumira Server on SAP HANA Cloud Platform?

    Hi,
Can we run Lumira Server on SAP HANA Cloud Platform (not SAP HANA)?
    Reason:
Unless there is a way to publish Lumira Story via Lumira Cloud to BI LaunchPad, otherwise I am only interested in the Lumira Desktop version at the moment. As we want to continue to pursue to have one central portal for all BI contents using BI LaunchPad.
    Question:
In summary, is it possible to apply SAP Lumira Server on SAP HANA Cloud Platform?
See screenshots below for the ideal scenarios.

    Hi Ken,
    Great question.
    Yes, absolutely you can.
As an example: I work with some customers who have small Hana estates "on-premise" (say, for Fraud on Hana, or BW HANA sidecar); as such they may not have the available infrastructure to decouple a sandbox Hana to evaluate new Hana Analytics innovations (like Lumira Server)
In such situations I recommend this page http://hcp.sap.com/platform.html  to evaluate our Hana Cloud platform options.
If you scroll half-way down, you'll see a nice graphic under the heading "Choose the Service That's Best for You". (the 3 stacked pillars)
Depending on your own licensing particulars, you may already have a runtime license for Lumira Server (through your BI bundle), and you may already have HDB (database) licenses available in your enterprise, so potentially you need only the 'infrastructure service' (leftmost chart).
Then, I've seen this integrated into productive on-premise systems, typically (but optionally) via a "leased line" (between customer & provider (SAP)) , and a VPN tunnel in between to make the secure bridge.
It's a really neat way to get on the Hana journey: quick to deploy, flexible, and well priced.

  • How can I create geographic charts with Lumira connected to SAP HANA?

    Hello All
I'm testing SAP Lumira and I want to make geographic charts with data from SAP HANA. This is possible when I use data from a local Excel-file. But not when I use data from SAP HANA. I was told it should work after installing Service Pack 8. But it still doesn't work. Maybe we have to turn something on, change a configuration file. Maybe it has to do with SAP Lumira, not with SAP HANA. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Here are some technical details:
    SAP HANA Version: 1.00.81.00.392776 (NewDB100_REL).
SAP Lumira Version: 1.19.0 (build 1099) (latest version).
    SAP HANA Studio Version: 1.00.81.0.
Windows Version: Windows 7 Enterprise, Service Pack 1.
    Kind regards, Robbert

    Hello Antoine
At paragraph 3.2.2 on page 73 it says:
Creating geography hierarchies with latitude and longitude data is not currently supported for SAP HANA data sources.
I think this explains everything. Well, almost everything. I created geographic charts with Lumira while connected with Excel or a csv-file. The question now is, am I waiting for an update of SAP Lumira or an update of SAP HANA? Or both?
    Kind regards, Robbert

  • Lumira Server Installation on HANA Options

    Dear All,
I have asked this Question to SAP Lumira support team , i am awaiting for their response. Lumira experts please help me with the query in case if you an answer
We have ECC 6.0 running on HANA DB and now migrating BW database also to HANA DB. To setup Lumira Server which is the better deployment option ?  Installing Lumira on top of ERP HANA DB or BW HANA DB ? (We also have Fiori Implementation going on )
    Thanks,
    Ravi

    Hi,
This is a tricky question that is more in the realms of solution architecture decisioning, than technical support.
Your deployment option choice might come down to personal preference or practicality.
Or it could be dictated by organisational practice.
Or driven by varying compliance and governance needs.
Also, perhaps different service-level requirements or business criticality could influence your choice. (processing loads, schedules)
Of course, maintenance considerations and the availability of capacity (inc. sizing) would be factors too.
Not forgetting geography, infrastructure, network, bandwidth etc when thinking about delivering an amazing end-user experience.
Personally, I'd put it alongside BW as part of your Analytics use-case. And let business-critical ERP operations get handled in separation.

  • Lumira on HCP or Cloud Lumira server with backend as HANA DB

    Hi
I have developed Lumira stories in desktop version and deployed in trial version of Cloud Lumira server.
But not able to connect HANA DB as backend to create stories in Cloud Lumira.
is there any way to create Cloud Lumira stories with backend as HANA DB ? i'm able to achieve this in desktop version and again not able to publish to Cloud Lumira.
i tried with Hana Cloud Platform trial account.
But i dont find Lumira Server on HCP. Only Cloud lumira is available where we are not able to connect with HANA DB.
Is Lumira is available on HCP ? or how to connect HANA DB with Cloud lumira server?
I'm new to Lumira developments, Any help would be appreciable.
    Thanks & Regards
    Yokesvaran Kumarasamy

I don't think you will be able to connect to those with trial accounts; those are typically limited in data sources

  • Lumira Server for BI Platform and Team/Edge consumption & licensing question

Hi.  I have a few questions.
    Question 1:
From my reading, I've heard that Lumira Edge/Team server may not be a part of BI-Suite License.  I read a Lumira Server ASUG Webcast recap by Tammy Powlas here (SAP Lumira Server for Teams Roadmap ASUG Webcast) over the weekend and one of the Q&A questions struck me:
Q: Is this included with the BI Suite license from SAP?
A: Lumira Server for Teams (Edge Edition) is not covered under BI Suite License. However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
In a separate conversation late 2014, I thought I'd heard that Lumira Team/Edge server was supposed to be usable by BI Suite licensed customers, but it sounds like I'm mistaken?
    Question 2:
Next, the second part of the statement gave me hope:
However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
I then looked at the Lumira Deployment Options for Departments Part 1 – ASUG Webcast by Tammy Powlas to get some more information on Lumira Server for BI Platform.  This slide gave me some hope (emphasis mine in green):
But then I see some more information a little later:
Is this slide to imply that the version without HANA (or HANA XS) for BI Platform will only really just serve as a user rights management and Lumira document repository?  And that if I want to view a Lumira document, I must still open from the Lumira Desktop client?
It was suggested I start a new discussion thread to ask this licensing question about a product that's not out yet (but the slide says it's GA so I'm still confused) so here I am with my discussion thread!
Hopefully someone can make me less confused.  I'm hoping the answer is as a BI-Suite customer that we do not have to make a decision to either invest in new Edge/Team licenses or buy HANA XS hardware to establish a beachhead of Lumira usage in our organization.  We've been struggling with promoting Lumira and the sharing piece has been the sore spot.

    Hi Michael
You are right, it is confusing...
I think it will be better to contact sales to get this explained as opposed to technical support people that monitor this SCN Space.

  • SAP Lumira over BW

    Hi
I've downloaded the trial Client version and I managed to build a simple visualization over a BW query, but I have a few questions:
    1. I don;t have any ability to compose or share my report.
Is it a limitation when working over BW?
    2. Is it possible to publish my report to BO Launch pad? I don't want to publish corporate data to the cloud.
    Thanks
    Shlomi

Hi Shlomi, yes it sounds a bit complicated... And it is ! But that's SAP usual way of building / licensing products. Sometimes I think the next recruitment process will be to incorporate someone to deal with SAP exclusively :S
The main reason for this set up complexity is that you need Lumira Server to run your Lumira visualizations and storys (even need it manage and share extensions, something you can't do in the cloud version...) and Lumira Server runs on HANA XS Engine. So you also need that :S
But you should explore this in more detail, because in the end you shouldn't need the appliance itself, but the XS engine, and you can get licensing for that exclusively (via HANA Basic license...) and with the posibility of using own infrastructure, maybe you can find a way around the complexity
    Cheers !

  • SAP Lumira server refresh

How does data refresh work for SAP lumira server for UNX /SQL data sources? Do we need to publish new datasets manually or server has direct DB connectivity ( similar to BO universes). The details around data refresh is bit thin around SAP Lumira Server.
    Thanks
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay
No it's not 1.16. We will be making an announcement at Sapphire of the details and then on SCN shortly after.  Based on the current planning, it will require:
    - Lumira Server 1.17
    - HANA 1.0 SP8 (pre-req for Lumira Server)
    - BI 4.1 SP3
    - SAP BusinessObjects BI, add-on for SAP Lumira (a.k.a "Lumira add-on")
However the plan is subject to change. I hope to be able to provide more concrete timelines within two weeks but it should be coming soon.
Do you have BI 4.1 SP3 environment?

  • ODP in Hana

What does the new ODP (operational data providers) in 7.3 buy me?
Is it the same with or without Hana?
    Mike

    Michael,
ODP feature is part of the NW 7.03 and is deliverd with Suite 7i2011.
Data provisioning is strictly decoupled from data consumption ensuring low TCI. With Operational data provisioning  operational transaction and master data including their associations are exposed as one interface ( a business object model )
you can use this feature in conjuction with Data Services Tool ( Drag & Drop feature.. check this following link for more )
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/elearn?rid=/library/uuid/00e851a4-c25d-2e10-349f-82773d2c40d3
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/elearn?rid=/library/uuid/50312d40-ee6c-2e10-ae9b-b773ac7014a7
And it is not mandatory to have HANA, but Reporting  can easily be switched from direct access to in-memory-technology based on BWA / Hana with a simple configuration step. Queries and modeling is not affected at all.

    suresh

  • Explorer on BW Only Possible?

I have been asked to investigate if Business Object Explorer is supported on BW 7.3 and 7.4 and or there is a work around for BI 4.0 SP7 and or BI 4.1 SP3?  I have read the admin guide and it mentions that OLAP data sources are not supported.
When I recently spoke with a person from SAP, they said that they thought Explorer 4.0 was supported for BW.
I tried to clarify that we do not have BWA or Hana, just BW.  I have read where it might be possible to use Explorer on a BW DSO with a universe, but this is not very useful to us, unless we were to create DSOs out of calculated results from cube.
Can anyone clarify this?  Our CIO and CFO like the presentations they have seen on Explorer and do not understand why we cannot use it with SAP BW.
    Lee Lewis

    Lewis,
I have the same issues recently, and with company officials at the Sapphire conference, the SAP sales people are just lending to the confusion because they don't understand the technicals or support that is identified.
The platform compatiblity list for support, specifically states that OLAP universe are not supported.  BW and HANA are supported but BW is only supported through HANA or BWA.
Now I am an Admin/Engineer, not a developer or data architect; have been for 15+ years dating back to when this was SI 6.5 (Seagate Info) and Crystal Reports 6.5.  I have migrated and built systems through Crystal Enterprise to BusinessObjects XI and now BI 4.1.
I have tested on 4.1SP3; and yes, you can build a universe (unv or unx) on BW queries, but that is the definition of an OLAP universe, even though it is a relational connection.
I find that the BEX Queries the way most are written for BEX Reports are inadequate in design for exploration of the data.  Heirarchies don't work, and all you will get is the L00 and L01 dimensions, NO DETAIL OBJECTS. from the universe.
Again OLAP Universes are not supported for Explorer.  Test this by trying to convert a unv on BEX to a UNX through the IDT, and it will tell you it doesn't support conversion of OLAP Universes and to use BICs.  You must rebuild it with SAP Jco connection to the query, but then why rebuild if the design was to go to BICs?  The reason for that would be customized universes, that lay on top of an injected BEX statement.  Some places do that; requires more maintenance during refreshing the unvierses, but in those necessary cases that BEX/MDX will not let you do what you need in the query, you are only left with the universe or analysis document (RPT, WID, etc) to manipulate the data the way that is required for the task at hand.
There is documentation out there of using excel data from BW to drive the InfoSpace, and Exploration View set that you schedule for refresh.  This turns out to be a Rube Goldberg design approach to the issue, as you need to perform multiple steps for one InfoSpace/Exploration View.
    1. Design and schedule the WebI or Crystal output to Excel.
    2. Then use that excel for base of the Information Space
    3. Then through CMC capture the actual location of the file in the FRS, used for InfoSpace,
    4. Schedule the webi to export the results to that new location only over-writing itself.
    5. Set the recurring schedule in both the infospace for indexing and the webI.
Voila! You have the most cumbersome design of getting supported BW data into Explorer without HANA, BWA, or Data Services pipiing into a datamart or other flattened RDBMS style source to get SAP to support it via their documentation.
The Biggest ERROR made by companies and Executive is thinking that SBOP is SAP.  SAP Owns it, but BusinessObjects remains BusinessObjects.  We provide Business Intelligence Solutions for everything the company can provide access to in the way of data, not just SAP, and not exclusively SAP.  BusinessObjects was originally designed for Relational Databases, OLAP was added for Voyager/Pioneer (now Analysis for OLAP).  The design driving force behind everything SAP is now HANA.
I have requests to look at InfiniteInsight, Predictive Analysis, Lumira, and other applications that are SAP and not SBOP, but like SBOP are acquired assests and not true SAP NW Applications.  90% of them will not work directly with BW like Crystal and WebI does for reports without going through another interface, layer, and/or appliance.

  • Fiori on SAP BW - Query

    Hello Experts,
I understand SAP Fiori uses SAP ECC system for the transactions and analytic apps. As Fiori is based on SAPUI5 framwork, I was thinking if it is possible to design apps in Fiori on SAP BW system (integrate BEx or infoprovider data into Apps)?
    Kindly Suggest.
    Thanks,
    Viren

    Hi Fenil,
Yes only transactional apps are possible without HANA. I did not receive concrete information but it seems it is not possible to use BW as backend. This is probably due to the gateway limitations. Aim of Fiori is not to replace BW reporting tools but to efficiently use data in Transactional systems.

  • Unable to Publish LUMS file to Lumira Server on HANA

    Hi SCN Community,
I did quite a bit of research on this topic on SCN and other blogs but couldn't find the answer. I did all the configuration according to KBA 1995325.
I have installed Lumira Server 1.23 on HANA SPS9. I have went through the configuration guide and done all the configuration I can find via Fiori portal.
The issue I am having is I can create a lums document(tried Excel, Universe, HANA online/offline) in Lumira Desktop and it works fine but when I publish it to Lumira Server I get the following error. I get the same error when I try to create a data set in Lumira Server itself.
Also I can publish the same lums document to Lumira Cloud and it works fine.
I will appreciate any help. Thanks
1st screenshot is of the published doc and the 2nd is when I try to create a data set

    Hi Gaurav,
Try it without using Proxy (under Network, Preferences), and also (in case of online HANA view) use the same server name (including the domain name) in both the connection dialog, and Network, Preferences dialog.

  • Connecting Hana view to SAP Lumira

    Hi ,
I created a view in Hana system and used the Connect to SAP HANA One source option in SAP Lumira for the Dataset.
On the next screen i am able to see all views under different packages from HANA, but i am not able to see the new view created by me.
    My questions -
    1) Do i need to have certain privileges in order to see the newly created view in the view list at lumira level?
    2) Any Steps which i am missing in addition to creating an anayltic view, adding a data foundation to the view ?
    Regards
    Chaitanya Sharma

    Hi Chaitanya,
Check if the Schema and the package containing the AN view you have created is assigned to your USERNAME under Object & Package privilege respectively.
And while connecting to HANA System in Lumira login with the USER which has these assigned objects. Check if this helps
