Mac Book Power Adapter, on MackBookPro?????

So my girlfriend is on a business trip and has a Mac Book. I have a MacBookPro. She took my power adapter by accident. I have her 60watt poweradapter. Is this fine? I am getting an X on my battery picture now instead of telling me how much time I have on my battery life. Does my MacBookPro not handle the charge?

If its powering it, and you have an X on the battery..
My guess is its powering the laptop, but not charging the battery.
Would def. bee a nice failsafe for apple, and users in cases like this.

  • Mac Book power issues.

My Mac Book Pro will no longer power up. What is the likely problem?

    Hello there Radar47,
If your MacBook Pro is still not turning on, I would recommend you use the troubleshooting information in the following article to help isolate and hopefully resolve the issue here, named:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

  • Mac book power adaptor

My power adaptor will not charge my mac book while it is in use. When I shut down it will recharge the battery. This, of course limits the time I can use my computer as the battery discharges to zero while in use. Anyone have a remedy? I am not near an Apple store or service center. The computer is about 18 months old.

    Check out this program:

And inform them of the inconvenience of having to bring it in for repair.

  • Can I temporarily use the Mac Book Power Adaptor on MBP?

Hi-- I'm on vacation and forgot my adaptor. But I have access to the Mac Book one. I looked up and they have different wattages--85 vs. 60 for the Mac Book. Can I use the 60 Wattage on my MBP meant for 85?
    Thanks for you help--Elise

Yes, but you're best off using it to charge the battery and run from that. The 60w isn't enough to charge and run the machine.
    Best of luck.

  • Mac pro power adapter separating

I bought my mac pro in June and have been having an issue with the portable adapter separating where it plugs in. The _*whole plug falls out of the adapter (prongs and all)*_. It can be put back together and used, but I am afraid of short circuiting my computer. It also does not stay plugged in very well and hasn't, since I purchased it. Does anyone have any suggestions or is anyone experiencing the same problem. What is recommended?

I recommend you get it replaced by Apple. This should be covered by the warranty call them or go by an Apple store for help.

  • HT3131 Problem with closed Mac connected to power adapter

Dear support, as far as i understand when my mac is connected to display and closed, i can not unplug mac from power  adapter - as the display will be off right away. Problem is - that i don't want my mac always be connected to power as it will harm the battery. Any Ideas?

Thanks for the answer. So that means there is no way that u can use external display in Clamshell mode without power adaptor.  As far as I understood - I need to fully use my battery at least once a month, and then I can continue using power on all the time until next month, right?

  • Power Adapter start to release smoke!

My Mac Book Pro adapter chord recently began to turn extremely hot at the magnetic end, and the next thing I knew the wires were exposed there, followed by a strange smell which turned out to be caused by smoke. Good thing I caught it before it started a fire! Is this covered by Apple Care for a replacement? Very scary. Do I need to alter the settings on the adapter to avoid something similar in the future? Incidentally the battery also stopped functioning and I had it replaced in February after a very long wait (over 1 month), since I am currently residing overseas (Brazil).
Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It certainly should be--that is why you have Applecare, after all. I have seen this problem before on this forum and even a picture, so it is not unique to your power adapter. It looked to me like some sort of manufacturing defect, and I believe the strain relief was redesigned in later models.
That said, the power cables are somewhat fragile, and you will have to determine that the problem did not arise from rough handling or abuse. Apple would be less likely to want to replace a power adapter which was damaged through improper handling. But if you have never mishandled it and feel like it is actually defective from the beginning, you should be able to obtain a replacement.
    Good luck!

  • Dimensions of the Power Adapter Brick

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the Mac Mini Power Adapter Brick? I'm trying to communicate with an architect for Mac Mini placement locations and need to know how big the brick is... Can't locate the info anywhere.
    Thanks!

    6.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 (inches)
One also has to take into account the power in and out cables of course.

  • Can I use my mac book pro with 120 volt and 240 volt power supplies?  Does the power converter automatically switch, so I just need a different adapter plug?

I got my mac book pro in the U.S., but I will be travelling to where there is 240 volt power.  Does the mag safe power adapter switch automatically, so I just need a converter plug, or do I need a transformer to convert from 240 to 120 volts?  Thanks.

    Hi,
I too bought my Macbook Pro in the US and I live in the UK (its so much cheaper in the US! No 20% VAT!)
The power adapter does work on UK 230v power. You can also get a three pin extension lead (like the 2 pin US one that came with the MBP) for about £3 with free delivery from Amazon UK.
Another tip, whne you are back in the UK, and you are switching from a PC to a Mac, get in touch with your local Apple Shop who run one to one free courses on how to use your MBP.
    Hope This Helps!!

  • TS1713 my power adapter gets very hot on my mac book pro is this normal

my power adapter gets very hot to toutch on my mac book pro is this normal

Hot is normal for the charger but very hot is not. If it were mine It could be that your MBP is drawing too much current. I would take it to the Apple Store and have it checked out.

  • What is the necessity of the AC power cord (with Mac Book Air)? When should it be used with the power adapter?

what is the necessity of the AC power cord (with the Mac book Air)? when should it be used?

Gary, you wouldn't believe some of the questions people ask on this site.
    Why are both cords necessary?
    They are not.
Other than the two reasons dominic23 sited are there any other reasons to use the AC power cord rather than the power adapter cord alone?
    No.

A new machine shouldn't need one, but it's it's not charging that's the solution.
All I can figure it sat on a shelf at Best Buy too long, they are closing 50 stores so I hear, so apparantly they haven't been busy like a Apple Store is and product flies off the shelves in pristine charged up like condiiton.

  • Mac Book Pro 17" 85W Power Adapter too Hot to handle while charging/using

    Hello All,
I bought a Mac Book Pro 17". What's up with my Power Adapter when I am using the computer at the same time charging it. The Power Adapter gets so hot that it is too hot to handle...very very hot! Is this normal ?
Any advise is most welcome on the matter.
Mac Book Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Simple answer, no its not normal
The adapter should get warm, but not hot
The first thing i'd do is try it in a different power socket
If it still heats up like you say regardless of where you plug it in, then its a fault in the adapter
return it to apple or an apple reseller and get another one
i wouldn't use it any more as it could be dangerous to your computer and become a fire hazzard
