Mac mail still opens at startup
I have been having issues with Mail opening every time on a restart/shutdown/log off. It is not selected to open at start up and it is none of the StartupItems folders in either System, Users or Mac HD. Just recently changed the Default mail reader for Mail to Safari to see if that would fix the problem, but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions? I am not willing to reinstall my entire system to fix this.
All I did was check the option to "open at login", reboot, then uncheck "open at login", and reboot. and it was fixed

Login Items deleted and still opening at startup
I deleted every login Item.
I have five programs opening at startup. Mail, Safari, Dictionary, Word for Mac and Online Bible.
I deleted them from SysPrefs/accounts/login Items.
They still open at startup.
I am trying to switch from FireFox to Safari. If I have FireFox on the computer, even five folders down it opens at startup—all the programs do.
Any suggestions?
Blessingslightwait,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There is one more place that you could look for these items.
Look in the Macintosh HD/Library/StartupItems folder for any sign of those applications. What do you find there?
You mentioned that you placed Firefox 5 folders deep. This is not generally a good idea, especially with Apple Applications. Have you buried any other applications or utilities?

Un-install according to the developer's un-install instructions.
You do not need to use cleaning programs. They can destroy your computer operation as they may already have done.
CleanMyMac - Uninstall
CleanMyMac2 Un-install
After un-installing, run this program to make sure you got all the pieces.
EasyFind – Spotlight Replacement
Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

How can I get Mac mail to open winmail.dat attachments on lion 10.7.3
How can I get Mac mail to open letter attachments winmail.dat?? (Lion 10.7.3) Any help appreciated...
Sorry peterskine,
it's true in part. There's more then one article on the subject "Recipients receive a winmail.dat attachment":
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/outlook-help/recipients-receive-a-winmail-dat- attachment-HA010153018.aspx?CTT=1
The odd thing is that my colleague and me use the same release mountain lion and we received the same email from someone on Outlook2007. He received the mail with the attachment, whilst I saw a "Winmail.dat". It already happened to me on snow-leopard, some month ago. Up til today I don't know what the difference between our machines is.
But it is interesting: the same OS, the same mail-clients (Apple Mail) and still different results.
Note: on my machine it used to work properly. It just suddenly happened that I started to receive winmail.dat files in stead of proper attachments.
When I have more time on hand, I cant try to find out why this happens. -
When I open mac mail, it opens 1000 emails in separate windows. Emails that are not even in my account anymore. The system freezes and the only thing I can do is force quit. Can anyone help?
You should post in the Mail forum area of whichever os is installed on your computer.

Google chrome still opens at startup.opens at start up
Hello All:
I havevdone the etrecheck and can't figure out why chrome still opens at startup. I can paste the results in but can anyone solve this for me? By the way, etrecheck did solve another issue for me so thank you.
Regards,
CiaochiaoHi Antonio:
Actually, I hadn't thought about uninstalling chrome. That would certainly get rid of chrome upon login! I'll think about that as an option. I could try uninstalling the re-installing chrome. I don't really care for chrome but it comes in handy from time to time. Thanks for the idea.

I tried everything mail says entourage is default but it still opens mail, for instance i want to email from numbers it opens mail not entourage why??
Some applications are hard-coded to launch Mail and don't honor the preference setting. iPhoto until the latest version was one such and Pages may be another, though I don't know for sure. You might try asking in the Pages or Mac OS X forums, it not being a hardware issue per se and so not limited to an iMac.

PC Users are unable to check Outlook while my (mac) Mail is open
Ever since I upgraded to 10.4, whenever I have my Mail application open, the PC users are unable to check their IMAP mail through Outlook. The PC Users and myself are all using different accounts, but are checking the same server.
At first, this seemed like it was a coincidence... but then I shut my powerbook and they could check their again. I have to use a web mail client to check my email when I am on the network at work.
Any ideas to resolve this issue? Mail is set to check every 5 minutes.AA8 and AA9 allow Reader Rights so the user can save the form. This is restricted by the license to 500 uses. In the long run, the only advantage of the Reader Rights is for your users, not for you. You can always import the data into the form and have the same result as they had in the form. It is not necessary to transmit the full form to you, only the data. If you were developing a web form that would likely exceed the 500 uses, you would have to negotiate a price with Adobe for Reader Rights (thousands of $$ should be expected).
If saving is important in a company environment, not online, then you may want to read the EULA carefully as to the exceptions. You will still have to have at least AA8.
I guess the printing problem was answered. -

Can't click on link in Mac Mail to open Firefox
I use Firefox as my default browser on my iMac. Now (for the past month) when I click on a link in Mac Mail nothing happens. It works fine on my Mac-book. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I should say I can click on a link if I set Safari or Google Chrome as my default browser. I just prefer Firefox. Thank you

After updating to Firefox 8 Beta for Mac, no window opens on startup.
After updating to Firefox 8 beta on Mac, I tried to open a new session. Upon starting, a pop-up appeared in the upper left corner of the screen. ([[As seen here.|http://i51.tinypic.com/2z9i99s.png]])
I tried to close it by clicking Cancel or OK, neither of which was successful. Is there any way to fix this problem?Firefox 16 versions still work with your OS X 10.5 operating system, but that is the last version that will work.<br />
Firefox 17 will require OS X 10.6 and later.
You can see the Firefox 17 (currently in beta) system requirements here:

Like it says in the title, I already transfered to iCloud days ago, and now I go to check my e-mail and VOILA! Apple/.Mac/iCloud are acting all brand new, like I never did any thing!
So I go through the palabra again to continue using my .Mac e-mail, part of the whole *Family Pack* set-up I paid for each year circa $200 for the whole nine yards for the past six years, only to be told that in their infinite wisdom dwelling in their cushy bubble in Cupertino, Apple will no longer have the service I've been paying for, and "oh, don't worry, you can still have your e-mail"...
Still no e-mail. Still no consistently working .Mac service. Congratulations, Apple. Y'all are starting to look more and more like Microsoft, and no, that is not a complement.i didn't read a lot of your 2nd paragraph, but it seems like the password is the issue, right?
do a true clean install
reboot your machine and hold down command+option+r, you should see a spinning globe - if you don't see the globe or anything that reads internet recovery, shut down and try again
at menu, chose disk utility and once there, find your HD on the left side, select the physical name and erase it as mac journaled
exit disk utlity
at menu, choose install OSX
this time, when it asks for a password just hit continue, it will let you complete without a password
you should be able to get into your laptop, now figure out what password you'll be able to use with your kb issue -

Some system files are apparently damaged. Do this:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
If you have Leopard installed or earlier then do this:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update. -
Help, mac mail keeps crashing
This started about 2 weeks ago, I usually have my mac mail to open when my MacBook starts up, and I think it may have been to do with a random email that got sent from my sister old hotmail account which she doesn't use. It was hacked or something and send an email out to everyone asking them to follow a link. I didn't open the email on my MacBook, only on my iPhone but I didn't follow the link and just deleted it.
After this whenever Mac Mail opens it loads then crashes. I looked on a few sites including this one and others had similar problems and they had pressed shift when opening mac mail so that it didn't preview any emails so you could delete the offending mail item (as obviously it was still on my computer as it hadn't synced up online) but a few seconds after loading it crashed again! Even though it hadn't opened any emails.
I then saw a suggested that said if you create another user account on the MacBook and then set up your email account on it, see if it still crashes, but it doesn't! It opens my mail fine in another apple user account on my mac.
I've been having to use mobileme via my browser (firefox) to read my emails, and via my iphone, but it's getting silly now as I can't send links etc as when I do it opens MacMail and I just want to sort the problem.
Can anyone suggest anything? If I can't fix it, I think I'll end up just using the new user account I set up as I didn't realise how much I rely on my MacMail.Hiya Bob,
I've tried that too and still having the same issue.

For several days now, my Address Book application opens at startup to the first vCard in my address book. I have not added any software or new widgets in some time. This just started to happen. I read through previous threads which indicated that the address book widget could be opening it. I disabled it and the problem still exists. I have repaired permissions and even disabled all widgets and it still opens at startup. Is there something else opening the application at startup? Any suggestions?

When I have music playing and I either click the lock button or enter or exit the Music app, the music will stop playing for a second, then start again. This isn't a problem per se, but it is rather annoying. It hadn't done this with iOS 3.
