Mac os x mail when and to what are rules applied

Three imap email accounts are configured and active: iCloud, Gmail, and a commercial mail host. Rules are not account-specific and are generally of the form: If <condition> then copy message to <designated mailbox> and stop evaluating rules. Mail arrives randomly on all three accounts but rules appear to be applied only to the commercial email account.

Barney-15E --
Thanks for your reply.  Let me try to clarify the question:
Mail arrives randomly from three imap accounts, A, B, and C.  Configured rules (which, if successful, leave copies of incoming messages in designated mailboxes) appear to be applied to messages from account C but not to messages from accounts A and B.  Why are messages from different accounts treated differently?

  • Yosemite 10.10.2 server app. FTP help. I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac folder. It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?

So I have set up a localhost area in my Mac. I have the new server.app and I am running yosemite 10.10.2 .
I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac .
It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?
I am pretty certain that the Serveris "localhost",
Name is my macs name (like my-mac-min)
    password is "my login password"
    and they suggest port 21.
But what is the file path, lets just say my site is set up http://localhost/siteftp and is actually at my Users/Sites/siteftp folder.
Why cant this program connect to the mac.
Is it because they are both operating in the same localhost enviroment,
could it be my folder permissions are not correct on siteftp folder?
    Help please !

I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.

  • Yosemite is awful- unable to empty trash, volume options are haywire, error codes on file management, and files won't replace when moved. What are my options at this point?

Like the topic - "Yosemite is awful- unable to empty trash, volume options are haywire, error codes on file management, and files won't replace when moved. What are my options at this point?"
I installed this OS, and it looks nice, but it's terrible to use. I randomly have the volume controls get disabled, and sometimes the volume menu in the system tray does nothing when adjusted which I've never seen in an OS before. The trash won't empty. When I try to drag and drop newer files over existing ones, nothing happens. The old ones just stay there. I have to delete the old ones and then move the new ones. And when I go into the protected files to manage audio plugins (I make music), the first thing I hit are error codes galore, and password prompts that either don't popup when they should, or don't execute the command after I provide my password.
What can I do now that I installed the flames of **** onto my computer?

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

I have imported a document from my old Windows PC but on the Mac the text is misaligned and the pictures are gobbledygook. It looks fine on the thumbnail

To view it in an acceptable format, yes.  You can try using an opensource program such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice and see if it yields better results.  However, I'm sure if it would be compatible with a document made with word processing software from 9 years ago, but I would certainly give it a try.

what are rule for adding names to photos in iphoto?

Since your profile indicates you have a Mac, I am guessing you are asking how to add a face name using iPhoto on your Mac.
You would open the photo in iPhoto, click "Info" on the bottom, and then the "Faces" tab on the right.
Once you have added the face name in iPhoto on your Mac, once you sync the photo to your iPhone, the name will appear there as well.

What’s the capacity and space available on your startup disk? Take a look at the comments about disk space in the following article, in case they apply to you:
Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space
Even if there is enough space available on the startup disk, for some reason that remains a mystery to me, Mail sometimes “thinks” it must discard the current ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file and create a new one. As a result, all your non-Mac account settings (but not the messages themselves), which are stored in that file, are lost.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what’s it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), quit Mail if it’s running, and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, just in case something else goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. This is where all your mail is stored.
    You have three options now:
    (1) Restore com.apple.mail.plist from a backup if you have one. Mail shouldn’t be running while you do this.
    (2) Set up your non-Mac accounts in Mail again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done. You’ll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    (3) Mail may have renamed the old preferences file to com.apple.mail.plist.saved. If that’s the case, you may try moving the new com.apple.mail.plist out of ~/Library/Preferences/ (e.g. to the Desktop) and rename the old com.apple.mail.plist.saved back to com.apple.mail.plist. Again, be sure Mail isn’t running while doing this. Since Mail decided to discard it, I would expect this file to be corrupt (I don’t understand why would Mail discard it and create a new one otherwise), but apparently that often is not the case and the settings can indeed be restored by just renaming the file.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Retina Mac shows gray screen when waking up: what to do besides loosing work?

    (see also http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/96188/retina-mac-shows-gray-screen-when -waking-up )
This is the first time that my Retina MacBook Pro wakes up from sleep with a gray screen. After about 10-20 seconds, the MacBook falls asleep again.
Some points that might be relevant:
The only difference between power adapter and no power adapter is that with power adapter it does not go to sleep again.
The battery is almost full (I closed the lid last night when it was about 90%)
An external monitor was not attached when sleeping it, so I don't think How to fix a Macbook that does not always draw its internal screen after waking from sleep and having unplugged external display while asleep? applies.
I've run gfxCardStatus, almost always in "force integrated mode" (to conserve battery). And normally it wakes up correctly.
    I run VMware Fusion 4.
All software is up-to-date and fully patched.
I tried to plugin an HDMI monitor and switch displays with Command-Fn-F1 and Command-Fn-F2, but that did not help (it would not switch displays). Before trying to:
reboot (by force a power off),
    reset SMC
    and/or reset PRAM/NVRAM
What options do I have that do not loose my work?
    sleep-wake retina-macbook-pro battery

Those keys do not reinstall OS X. To do that:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
COMMAND-OPTION-P-R keys resets the PRAM. OS X keyboard shortcuts.

  • Accessing an Apple account when the e-mail address and birth date are incorrect??

In updating to IOS yesterday I have stupidly ended up with three Apple accounts (It said I needed one with an e-mail address, there was my cloud account and my account I have used for years to purchase)
I basically messed up and thought I could create a fresh account with my e-mail address and still cotinue to download updates for my previous purchases.
Somehow my old Apple account that I bought all my apps on has become disconnected from my e-mail address and has the wrong date of birth - i threfore can't get in to the account or reset the password... is there a number I can call??

    Good luck with this!!!

  • When and for what to run SOLMAN_SETUP?

    Hi!
We have already configured some processes and functions within the solman.
Now we did patch our solman from SPS 17 to SPS 20 with EhP1.
Do we have to run the SOLMAN_SETUP?
E.g. for some new functions and so on.
Is there a delta-setup within the SOLMAN_SETUP possible?
I do not want to overwrite existing information or table entries which we possibly need.
What are your experience with that?
    Thanks for help in advance.
    Best regards,

    Hi,
I have a Windows7 pro 64bit with outlook 2010, latest version of iTunes and iCloud control panel.
My mobilMe account is working in Outlook, notes from my iPone and iPad are shared, but there 's no entry for contacs or agenda.
When I open iCloud control panel the checkbox for mail, contact and agenda are grayed out.
To be honnest I had the same problem with the mobileMe contol pannel, and never had it working. (I logged out mobilme contol panel)
What do I need to do to share my iCloud agenda in outlook and copy my outlook contacts in iCloud?
    so... Help please!
    Mario

Appreciate the response.  I am familiar with the server settings.  I used them to manually make things work for a short amount of time.  Then problem re-started.
My PW is correct.  I can log into iCloud from the web and it works on my other Apple devices.
Not sure what else to try.  SOme posts suggest others having a similar problem.

  • Help! Mail menus and icon text are all showing in Chinese/Asian characters!

I am helping someone with their iMac G5 computer. A couple of days ago, all of a sudden the Mail program (v. 2.13) has all the menus, icon text, and mail folder descriptions (Inbox, Trash, Drafts, Sent, etc.) all showing in what looks to be Chinese (or other oriental language). I checked in System Prefs and language still set to US. None of the other program menus or text seem to be effected--just Mail. Anyone know what caused this or how to fix?? Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. I am looking at the links you posted, but the problem here seems different. If you go into Mail, in the menu at the top, the word Mail is in English, then all of the other menu choices are written in what definitely appears to be an oriental language. If you click on a menu, all of the choices in the drop down menu are also oriental language. The e-mails themselves are in English, however the date of the e-mail is showing in oriental. On the left side, the words Inbox, Trash, etc. are all written in oriental as are the words under the icons. And, it's only in Mail. It just started doing this yesterday and the computer owner doesn't know why.
Thanks so much for any further ideas/suggestions. I am going back to read more in the links you sent, but this seems a different problem.

  • Flash ActiveX and NPAPI - what are they?

I see two things in Control Panel/Add Remove Programs
    Adobe Flash Player 16 ActiveX
    Adobe Flash Player 16 NPAPI
I don't use special software or anything, I just have Google chrome, IE and firefox... do I need these two software, and what are they please?
I ask since recently I had bsod and want to see the cause. Also firefox crashes.
    Thanks

Flash Player for NPAPI is Flash Player for Firefox
Flash Player for ActiveX is Flash Player for Internet Explorer
Flash Player for Chrome is built directly into the browser, so there's nothing separate to install or download.

  • How to set 'colliding' access restrictions in wrt610n - what are rule preferences?

Hello. I want to set up access restrictions to one MAC address (my kid's machine) basing on week days. From Su to Th allow less access time while during Fr-Sa afternoons access time should be longer. The question is how to program it in router. I know I can set rules with "allow" and "disable" keyword, but I don't know rules preference.
When I set (Su-Th 6-21) allowed access time then router automatically denies defined machine internet access outside this time range. The problem is in the power of thus calculated denying time. I want to allow more access time in weekend, so I hoped if I can simply add "Fr-Sa 6-22:30 allowed access time" rule. I hoped that router will regard explicitly set time over inexplicitly set  time but it appears it is not so.
Does anyone know the rule of rules? What are their preferences/priorieties, iis it possible to stack more rules affecting one MAC address or it is so simple that the first rule "rulez"? Is it possible to set more than one time rule affecting the one machine?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Agh! Thanks for your reply, it was good incentive to test the problem little more. Now I'm pretty sure that wrt610n algorithm has problem - it lies with power cuts. In my flat, the last internet user usually turns off power board when goes to sleep. After power is resumed router seemed to work flawlessly yet herein lies the problem and I hope I've found solution.
    The tests I have done:
    1. 2 rules (as mentioned in my first post). Kid's machine works (this is day now). Didn't played with rules times. Just turned router off. When router was turned on, two other (parents) machine get internet access while kid's machine didn't! Kid's machine was banned from internet against the rules. Router has proper time set - I checked it's status.
    2. I turned both rules to "disable access" versions (1. disable access Su-Th 21-23:55; 2. disable access Fr-Sa 22:30-23:55). This rules should work almost the same way (the only problem is, that no rule can expand over midnight, so the third rule should be added, banning access from midnigts to early mornings). The router was switched off. Then on. All three machines now has internet access. I hope, router will ban access in the afternoon automatically, as is set
My deduction. Algorithm bases on time points. When marked time comes, algorithm do, what it should do (but only, if router is powered). When you set "turn internet access on" time (this is "allow rule"), router turns on the access precisely at the chosen moment of time. If router was dead at that time, it doesn't turn the access on however, when power is restored. But when you set "disable rules" in place of "enable rules" I hope it should work and I tested, that this way router gives access after turning it on. Router should disable internet access to the kid's machine at selected time - at least until smart kid does not turn the router off a few seconds before the switch_off time and soon after turn it on But then there is plenty of more powerfull means of control, so I don't worry too much Yet it seems to me, there is a flaw in algorithm, which doesn't run properly after power on.
