Mac OSX file copy to Windows Share folder permissions

We'd got a few Mac's, one is snow leopard and the other is Lion. The scenario is:
Mac:
Go > Connect to server > smb://servernamehere > Connect > select your share
The authentication box then pops up, they've been typing in a username and password to connect to Server 2008 (Active Directory here by the way). I don't think it matters if they type in "DOMAIN\username" and the password or just "username" and the password.
They try to copy files around but they get this wacky -xx number and their Macs lock up.
On the Windows Server Side I look at the folder permissions and the users they're using are all golden, full permissions. I look at a test folder I create and it too looks good.
The weird thing is this:
If I look at the folders on Windows it looks normal but if I open the command line on a Mac, do:
cd /
cd Volumes
ls
cd Folder_I'm_Connected_To
ls -la | grep testfolder_I_made
I get these results...
drwx------ 1 Their_Username_Here staff --> Some other stuff here like a folder size, date, time and the folder name
My question is this I guess.
Do I have to join these Macs to the Windows domain for the permissions and folder views on the Mac to look right AND to have them funtion properly? The user of the other Mac says she never types in any authentication stuff, she just clicks a folder shortcut on her Mac ans she's in.
I would expect the permissions to at least say something like:
drwxdrwx---
The Windows server doesn't have the group "staff" which makes it seem the Mac isn't looking at the mounted volume in the same way Windows is. They also had this problem on AFP and SMB shares directly on a FreeNAS box which is also BSD like a Mac.
As a result of the Macs behaving similarly on both Windows and BSD (FreeNAS) I think this seems to be some wacky Mac behavior and I just can't figure it out.

Hi, same results at the terminal command on a SMB share, observed here with mac computers running with OsX 10.8 with Windows 2008 R2 SMB shares. My issue is that theses computers need to copy files on theses shares with Chronosync or Carbon Copy and this is not working due to an "modify file attributes permissions" error. But if I copy the files using "Finder" it works great.
You don't need to join your computers to your domain to get it to work. The error that you are talking about is the -5000 error ???

This is possible only, when your PI system is installed on Windows OS also.

The same way as you access it from your Windows Explorer.

Because this is the working directory of the Adapter Engine

Upload file to windows share folder running on unix

Hi, I am having requirement to upload the files into windows share folder, It works fine If I run the application on windows, but we moved the application to UNIX, so right now the client has to upload the files to windows shareholder , server is running on the UNIX,
as I am using the simple File file = new File(//share/shareholder),
so the problem is once we move to UNIX, how can I handle ., any example will really helpful.

Unzipping Mac .zip files on a Windows PC

Does anybody know of a Windows program that will decompress Mac .zip (gz) files reliably? I've Tried StuffIt Standard for Windows but it quits every time with a warning, "Engine Error:Internal Error." Sure, I can make .sit files on the Mac and use Stuffit to expand them in Windows, but that's not the solution I'm looking for. If I already have a Mac .zip file on my Windows PC is there any way to open it without using a Mac?
I've searched these forums but all my searches come up with answers to the opposite question: How do I open Windows .zip files on my Mac?

A .gz file is not a "Mac Zip file" but a GNU Zip file, which is commonly used on Unix and Linux computers (OS X is a form of Unix).
You can get a gzip application for Windows here, or Google for something like "gzip for Windows".
Archives made by the Finder on a Mac are regular zip files (.zip files), just like the ones you would see on Windows.

Mac OSX Lion symlink to Windows 7 share is broken

Hi all!
I'd like someone to help me with the following issue:
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate machine with some shared folders. In order to access theses folders, passwords are not requirede. So, when I try to access these folders putting the smb address in Finder, everything works fine. However, I need to use a symlink to XBMC recognize the folder Pictures in my share. So, I had to create a symlink to this folder in the smb share (also I configured it in a way that Mac OSX Lion automount the share when the session starts). I did it and for a while everything worked fine.
But when I restart the computer, although the share is mounted, the symlink is broken. So when I click on it, it seems like an empty folder, instead of going to the share.

There are any number of "theme" applications out there for Windows (WindowBlinds comes to mind). They let you control just about every aspect of the interface. They do have options that allow you to have a similar dock to OS X as well as other settings to make your desktop look like a Mac. If you are talking about actually installing OS X on a PC... that's a no-no. When you say there are "tutorials" on YouTube, that implies that you're looking to do something more involved than using a simple tool to tweek the interface. I just wanted to point out the difference.

Same file copy & paste in same folder

Hi all,
following situation:
we want to make scan to fileshare with a MFP. We create a share, make the configuration at the MFP to access to this share, and working well. We are able to make a scan. At the MFP we make a configuration for file name (scan.pdf).
In this case the first file is named scan.pdf. If we make a second scan, the file will be overwritten.
If we make this with Win 8.x, it's the same.
If we make this with Win7 or W2k8R2, this both OS will automatically rename the second file into scan001.pdf. The third in scan002.pdf, and so on.....
our test:
If I make this as a desktop action, I goto into a folder, select a file, right mouse click 'copy', click into a free area in this folder, right click 'paste' , then following happens:
with Win7/W2k8R2 - automatically saving of the second file, and windows is creating a new name automtcally for this.
with Win8.x/W2k12R2 - a popup is displayed with question about replace file and other options.
How can I disable this function ?
We need the same behave as Win7/W2k8R2. How to configure this ?
and additional, does some one, how to change 'the naming rule' ? I mean, Win7 is creationg a '001', and '002' and so on, is this value changable ?

I cannot reproduce the same result.
From the following screenshot, Windows Server 2012 R2 is the same as Windows Server 2008 R2 when copy a file (1.bmp) on desktop.
If it said "replace file xxx", generally it is caused that a files with same name is copied outside of this folder.
Meanwhile I tried on a Windows 7 system and it is the same naming rule ("File Name - Copy.txt", then "File Name - Copy (2).txt", "File Name - Copy (3).txt")
It seems that we cannot change the behavior which is by design.

Scripting file copy to windows server

Hi all,
We need the ability to copy files from the Mac G5's running 10.4.x to a windows based server (2003) across our LAN. Looked at scripting Terminal but it does not seem to support apple script the way I would like - ie copy /file to //server.
The reason we need to do the copy like this is to prevent resource forks and the .ds_store from coping as well, more of a unix copy. These hidden files are really messing up the system we are coping to (SQL DB).
Any suggestions?

competant to run a script to do this. I disagree with
the statement that there is "nothing to fix" however.
These dot files litter our Windows server and even
with Blue Harvest running I am constantly having to
use the Server Management Console to close these dot
files so that our real files can be moved, copied, or
deleted because when the server sees these as open it
sees the real file as open even when it isn't.
I had the option of FSM (File Services for Macintosh)
with the server, but we have thousands of files that
would have to revert back to 31 character filenames.
Rather than do that, I chose to stick with the SMB
protocol. It's a right pain getting it to work and
then we have the dot files on top of it. It wouldn't
be an issue with a Mac server, but I don't have one.
So, in my view Apple still has not fixed this.
I'm glad I asked the question though, because I made
the assumption that Tiger fixed this. Since it hasn't
I have yet another reason to stay in Panther.
And what happens with the files that still need resource forks? They're are still a Mac applications out there that make use of metadata. How are you going to selectively decide which metadata to preserve? Have ever had to help a user whose files suddenly turned into "unix executable" files after copying them to a server? You'll quickly realize that there are instances when metadata must be preserved.

MacBook Pro not booting to mac osx making partition on windows side and windows not booting either help

I have a macbook pro with windows 7 on bootcamp partition. I made a partition in windows 7 using disk mgmt and after that my computer wont show mac os partition and only show windows and when i boot to windows it errors out with blue screen unmountable volume. I was able to get in to command prompt of windows and use that command to boot to mac os but it failed giving error bootcamp.msi not found please any help in this issue will be appreciated.

Force Quit a file copying dialog window without Relaunching Finder?

Is it possible to quit a process in the Activity Monitor or in Terminal to stop a Copy process and close the copy process window without Relaunching the Finder?

I have 10.5.4 and I still can't copy anything. Most of the time, it hangs on "preparing to copy" and sits there forever. I've looked and searched on this forum and apparently many people are having this problem and there are no solutions!!! Why can't this OS do something as simple as drop and drag, or copying items from one place to another?? The only way to get out of this is to hold power button down on computer, and that's got to be not good.

Files copied from AFP share point are unwriteable by client

Has anyone found a fix yet? Basically, when copying files from an AFP server, Leopard is not having the file inherit the permissions of the parent folder. It is inheriting the permissions of the file within /Volumes.
I am accessing an AFP share point on a server that has files that are 644 (readable by everyone, but only writable by the owner). I am not the owner. When viewing the AFP volume on my client within /Volumes/whatever the permissions appear to be 400 (unwriteable by the owner, no access to anyone else). When I copy the file over to desktop, the permissions remain as 400 when they should obviously be 600.
What does this mean? Even though I am NOW the owner, and it is on MY desktop, I am unable to write to the file unless I chmod it. Very, very annoying and this behavior is unique to Leopard. Tiger does not mangle the permissions.
The server is ubuntu-8.10-server running Netatalk.
The test clients are Leopard 10.5.5 and Tiger 10.4.11
On the server:

I don't believe this is a problem of leopard in general. i can not reproduce this behavior with any of my afp shares. no matter how i connect (as an owner or as a guest) after I copy something to the desktop it gets standard 644 (not 600) permissions.

Mac OSX file format questions

I am using Quicken 2005 and these days I backup my accounts to my USB flash drive. In the past i backed up to zip disk or floppy. backing up to a floppy would be problematic since the Mac version has never supported multiple disk backup which the PC version even to this day still supports. And besides floppy disk access has always been slower and more problematic on the Mac for some reason.
Okay here is my question.
My quicken files end with a Backup-file.qdfm extension.
But whenever I upload these files (sadly they have to be dragged an dropped with Fetch) they appear as a folder on my FTP server. So I have been using the classic version of Transmit instead of the native OSX version of Fetch to upload my Quicken backup accounts.
My question if I ever had a major disaster (this has happened before) would the folder (what it appears to be) on my FTP server save me or should I be zipping this quicken file before I upload? I have been using Quicken since 1998 for the Mac and PC, and have thousands of bank transactions that are valuable and that I do not want to lose.
Encase you cannot understand what I mean here is a screen shot. The file above is the Quicken 2006 file, and the one below is a older Quicken 2001 file that I uploaded when I had my Performa.

One way to know for sure would be to download the file (folder) and open it in Quicken. Of course I would make and keep a backup on your local drive before doing this.
Like you I have been using Quicken for many years but I back mine up to another hard drive, then I back everything on it up on a regular basis to a CD. I also use .Mac and the backup program included with it to back up my Quicken files off site. The .Mac solution is automatic, and takes place daily which is nice.

Do you want to automate the process? If so, that is what Automator and Applescript are for. Surely you could write a simple script to do it for you.

New Mac user, need help accessing windows shares

Hi All,
I have a new MBP 13" and want to be able to easly access shared folder on my PC network. None of the PC's appear under the 'Shared' left menu in the finder, not even my aging eMac.
I have successfully used connect to server and smb the pc name, but this seems to wok once, then when I go to reuse it, i can not access it again. deleting the save server favourite and rebooting works occasionally, however for the most part it is bery hit and miss. My thoery is that if you can access it once, you should be able to again and again.
Obviously none of my pc's have any issues accessing the shares, it is just the mac . I have input the windows workgroup in the WINS section of Network Settings as well as my router ip address.
Can anyone advise how to get the pc's to appear under the shared tab in the finder.
At the moment, I am starting to regret buying the Macbook Pro, and really thought this type of issue would have been sorted out on the Mac side by now. But alas, it seems that I will just use windows 7 on the macbook pro until I can get this sorted. I can't not have access to windows data stores.
Any help will be appreciated. I have tried to resolve this by viewing similar threads, but have not found a reliable solution yet.

Have AI files from different paths. I need a copy all files with text curves. Should work for batch.
In the given path one folder should cretae called 'Curved" and all the files need copy to that folder and add file name at end '_Curved'
For example: file name is 'Filename.ai'. It should come 'Filename_Curved.ai'
