Mac RDP into Windows 2008 Server

Today, my Mac users are having a problem connecting to a Windows 2008R2 Server. They're getting the following error:"You were disconnected from the Windows-based computer because of problems during the licensing protocol"This morning, we moved this server to a new domain with a profile migration tool, and now none of the Macs can make an RDP connection.Searching for this error has yielded a lot of results, but most of them are client side, and don't seem to be suited to a case where there really was a change to the server. I have tried:

  • Mac os x wiki server can't authenticate user password from active directory recently after we upgraded to windows 2008 server.

after upgraded to windows 2008 server, our  mac os x wiki server can't authenticate user password anymore. How can I re-bind the wiki server to the AD again? thanks in advance.

Solved it by deleting the user and creating a new one with the same userID.
Maybe it occured because I marked the "user has to change password after first login" box when resetting the password but didn't yet allow him to do so in the webpages menu?!?

  • Does Windows 2008 Server run ok under Mac Mini Bootcamp?

Does anyone have any experience of installing and running Windows 2008 Server on a Mac Mini (of which has either Mac OS or Mac OS Server installed), under Bootcamp?
I currently have an old Dell with Windows 2008 server which acts as my Domain Controller, Exchange Server for a small home-office network. It's due an upgrade as the hardware is so old (and noisy!) and like the idea of having a nice compact, quiet Mac Mini, but want to make sure it can carry out the same duties under bootcamp on Win2008?

Windows 2008 can be installed in Boot Camp.  However I don't believe it is officially supported by Apple so there may or may not be issues with installing the Boot Camp Drivers (or future updates to the Boot Camp drivers.)  Not something I'd be recommending for a "production" environment.  If this is a test/dev system, then probably worth trying, depending on how critical your network uptime is.
Also, you didn't mention if your Dell came with Windows 2008 preinstalled, but if it did, then likely it has a "branded" version of Windows that won't activate correctly on non-Dell hardware.  (If your Windows disks have "Dell" on them, they won't work with the Mac.)  So you may need to purchase a retail or volume license copy of Windows 2008.
In general, for a server running as a DC & Exchange, you'd want RAID1 as a minimum so that would be the Mac Mini Server, not the "desktop" Mac Mini.  Unless you have one lying around, you're looking at something around $1500-$2000 to start, depending on whether you can transfer your existing Windows 2008 & Exchange installations.  (Another $500-$2000 depending on what vesions of Windows & Exchange.)  And probably 8GB of RAM since Windows 2008 & Exchange on 4GB is pushing it.  Considering the costs, I suggest you look at the Dell T110 series or the HP Proliant 110 series.  Both lines are very quiet and are supported for Windows 2008 from the factory, including Windows Small Business Server, which includes Exchange.  While not as small as a Mac Mini, they are mini towers and about the size of a typical PC desktop.
If you really wanted a small footprint, then HP has a "microserver" series.  You'd probably need to call HP to get the build you want as the online ordering is limited for that model.  From Dell, there is the Zino model desktop.  Again, not supported for a "server", but you were going to consider a the non-server version of the Mac Mini, then the Zino has at least a chance of you reusing your existing versions of Windows if they're Dell branded, thus saving your something in the range of $500-$2000 for new software.  (But I would NOT recommend a non-server chassis without RAID1 hard drives, so the Zino is not my choice.  I just offer it as a possibility if you accept the risk of an unsupported installation, as would have been installing Windows 2008 in Boot Camp.)
So yes, it will work.  But I wouldn't recommend it for a production environment, especailly if you have the "desktop" computer without RAID1.

  • Error connecting to the SAP SRV on Windows 2008 Server platform

    Hi All
We have a problem with one of our clients they bought a new sbs windows server 2008 and we loaded sql 2005 and sap b1 SP01 PL07.
When we did the SBO install we experience connection issues and we created odbc connection on the server using named pipes and tcp/ip (used both server name and Ip address).
We also configured the server in configuration manager and we managed to login and solved the slow system connection issue. We also created odbc connection on the client machines. (Machine are on a workgroup and users have administration access on all machines),we also installed native client on all machines.
After the first batch of client installs we managed to have connection, they were other computers which were left out during the first client install and now the client want to do the remaining machines connected to SBO. On every machine that we install now we get the same error :-

    Hi Eric,
yes we are using Windows 2008 SBS for the SAP EHP4 FOR SAP ERP 6.0/NW7.01 installation.
we tried to create the key but it says access is denied.
Actual thing is we got the server with Windows 2008 server 64 bit SBS (standard FE) with Domain Controller (DC) configuration.
We have removed the DC using dcpromo to convert into Wokgroup and tried the SAP installation.
I hope you got the idea and please let me know any further suggestions or it is the problem with the license.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Windows 2008 Server crashed - How to find location of remote shared files that they used to access on remote web app?

We have a client that was running windows 2008 server.  A previous IT person had setup their system, so we were walking into a situation where there were many unknowns.  Server was mainly handling emails only, and we were able to get their exchange
database off and export PSTs to hosted exchange via microsoft.
Everything went fine with that, however one user said that he used to access files on the server via the remote web app as he described.  He would go to the following url:
    https://mail.theirdomain.com/remote/menu.aspx#
and he would use his login and then he would see several links to folders.  He could then click on those and see his desired files.
We were able to get the server booted again, however we could not find any of the files he described on it at all, leaving me to suspect that perhaps this remote link was accessing another PC.
We have the old server up and running, however the link above is no longer active because we have pointed the domain to the new hosted exchange server.  As I am still learning and my boss wanted me to research this on my own and figure out how to find
out where these files are located.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Just as a note I did try access mail.localhost.com/remote/menu.aspx# on the server but this did not work.  Is there any way in the IIS 7 management console to figure out where this was pointing to?

I figured it out - The server was using sharepoint to host these files.  I browsed localhost:987 and opened the sharepoint site locally on the server.  They had several documents to be exported, however when clicking on Open in Explorer it was
giving an error that local client was not configured.  I installed Desktop Experience and after that was able to open it in Windows Explorer and copy all files off.

  • Windows 2008 Server R2 - Service Pack 1 Failed to install

A few nights ago I deployed Service Pack 1 for Windows 2008 Server R2 x64.  The update failed to install after 3 attempts using the Windows Update manager.  After the third time I checked the system properties which states that SP1 is
installed, yet it never appeared to install successfully as my other server machine had a prompt stating the SP was installed successfully.
In update history it shows the 3 failed attempts with no successes.  This morning I began running into memory errors which are impacting my 2 VM Ware sessions which in turn lock up my virtual machine so I am going to attempt to remove and reinstall
to see if this corrects my issue.  By the way what triggered the install of SP1 is random reboots of my server.  This is that unknown Kernal Power Error which I have yet to resolve.  Some months my server randomly reboots one time and other
months 4-5x.  That is neither here nor there, the point of this discussion is to resolve SP1.
I have tried to remove SP1 by means of Control Panel, Programs and Features, Installed Updates.  So it shows the that the SP1 installed in multiple areas yet in the install history no signs of successful installation.
When trying to uninstall from Program and Features/Installed Updates section in control panel it cycles through like its going to uninstall, but after several minutes I receive the following error      Windows Update
An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled.
When trying to uninstall from the command prompt (as administrator) "wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:976932" I get the following popup            Windows Update Standalone Installer
Installer encountered an error: 0x80073712       The component store has been corrupted.
Now if I try and install through the network installer file name "windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe" I get "Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 is already installed"
I performed these steps in the order mentioned which I came across this "System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition (KB947821) [February 2011]" After applying this hotfix I went through the same steps as mentioned above with the
    exact same results.
It is unfortuante I did not come across this hotfix before I attempted install SP1 as it appears as if this would have prepared the system for SP1 installation.  Currently I am in limbo with a corrupt installation of SP1 and so far no means of uninstalling
short of a reinstallation or repair of the OS which I am not willing to do at this point in time.
If anyone has any suggestions please chime in and let me know what I can try.  Thanks for all the support and hopefully this post will help others in the future.

Maybe a little bit late, but I was running almost same problem on a exchange server.
    Scenario:
First attempt to Update the windows patches - excluded the patches from the last 2 months.
I was kind a new to this, and didnt noticed that Windows Service pack must have at least 8GB free disk space.(Recommended)
So the C:\ partition had less then 5 GB free disk space, and I started the updates.
All went well until Windows SP1 begun running to downloading and installing.
When the installer noticed there wasnt enough space, It stopped, it give the status Failed, en when scaling up the C:\partition with another 10GB more space, the C:\partition had 18GB free disk space.
Tried to Call up a new attemp to install the SP1... but with no succes to start the SP1 installation...
I tried to reinstall but the windows update didnt get offered again to install again or resume or anything to try again...
Maybe...it is handy for Mickysoft, to check before installing, so the install wont get corrupted, and can install when c:\ partition has enough disk space.
    What was the trick:
    1) Stop the windows Update Service
    2) C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore - Delete content
    3) C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download - Delete content
    4) Windows update Service check if its runs again
    5) Check again for windows updates - Check if Windows Server Service pack 1 is offered, and install reboot and youre good to go.
It works for me :) hopefully after 3 years you had found a solution, but since I was poping for a solution and found this article with no solution.
I tought it will be hopefull for others to respond to this article with a solution.
    Kind regards,

  • Windows 2008 Server on Sunfire V20z Server

I am looking to install Windows 2008 Server (Standard Edition) on a retired Sunfire V20z server. The box is totally raw - i.e. new drives with no OS. The problem is that the Win2008 install disc is a DVD and the V20z only has a CD-ROM drive. I purchased an external DVD USB drive, but the BIOS does not support booting from the USB. I'm thinking updating the BIOS to version 1.35.3.2, but I can't find any documentation that it even supports USB booting.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can install Win2008 server on this raw box?

Depending on what other resources you have to hand I'd use one of the following approaches. Note: I don't have a V20z but the following approach has worked on other machines which had no DVD drive.
Open the box and temporarily connect a slimline IDE DVD-ROM in lieu of the built in CDROM. I've found that while there is often a proprietary interface on the M/B the connection at the drive end can normally be dismantled and connected to another drive. I use one salvaged from an IBM P3 based Netvista.
    or
Download the Microsoft WAIK and generate a Windows PE CDROM. Insert that into the CD drive and place the Windows 2008 DVD in the USB DVD drive. Boot the machine from the CD and then launch the Windows setup program from the USB DVD. The process for creating the Windows PE CDROM is straightforward and is covered in the Windows PE User's Guide as provided in the WAIK but here are the steps.
Launch the Deployment Tools Command Prompt and run the following commands ( for amd64 )
    copype amd64 C:\winpe_amd64
    copy c:\winpe_amd64\winpe.wim c:\winpe_amd64\ISO\sources\boot.wim
    oscdimg -n -bC:\winpe_amd64\etfsboot.com C:\winpe_amd64\ISO C:\winpe_amd64\winpe_amd64.iso
Burn the resulting ISO to a CD.

  • Windows 2008 Server Enterprise R2 x64 and Perc 4/dc SCSI driver issue

Hello all, this is the first time posting so please forgive me if this has been posted here before.  I did try to search this issue but zero returns.
OK, I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900.  I have just put a fresh install of MS Windows 2008 ENT. Server x64.  I cannot seem to find a driver for the PERC 4/dc SCSI controller I have installed.  I have been told the 2003 x64 driver would work so I attempted to install that driver but was unsuccessful.  Then I was told by Dell that the driver should be native to the OS.  Is the driver native to 2008 Server (or, supposed to be)?  Does anyone have an answer as to where I might retrieve am driver of the controller if not?  Anyway, thanks in advance

    Hello,
I don't have a PowerEdge 2900, but I do have a PowerEdge 2850.  I'm also just a regular bloke like yourself that just happened upon your post and after I figured this driver debacle out I registered to hopefully help.
The good thing is my PERC card is the same in the PE2850 as it is in your PE2900, as I'm utilizing a PERC 4/DC.  I've also managed to run into the same issue you ran into(?) trying to load Windows 2008 Server Enterprise R2 (support for 32bit processors have been removed in R2... so no more x86 versions... my poor PE2650s never stood a chance with this OS).
I can tell you officially from my experience/research Windows Server Enterprise R2 does not have support built into it for the PERC 4/DC card.
However, I was able to download the Windows 2003 x64 driver from support.dell.com and make it work after much trial and error with newer releases of the PERC 4/DC driver that were not accepted by 2k8R2.
    Here's the link:  http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=RC956904&l=en&s=hied&releaseid=R100373&SystemID=PWE_PNT_P3C_2850&servicetag=FBCLP61&os=WX64&osl=en&deviceid=6396&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=3&libid=35&fileid=129549
File name (incase Dell moves it on you guys) is "perc-w2k3-6.46.3.64-A01.exe", date released 6/9/2005, build version 6.46.3.64, and the Dell revision number is A01.
Even though it states the driver is for the LSI Logic PERC 4e/Si it's sort of a mega pack including many other drivers such as the PERC 4/DC.  This was much relief because I was thinking I would need to stick with Windows 2008 until I found this driver for Windows 2008 R2.  :)
    What I did was:
    1) Downloaded the driver and extracted it to a USB drive.
    2) Booted-up via the Win2k8R2 CD and when it got to the screen where it asked to install to a partition and didn't show me a partition to install Win2k8R2 to I selected the option to load a driver.
    3) From the load driver option I just browsed to the directory where I extracted the files and selected that directory.  If the "hide devices that are not compatible" option is selected (normally on by default) it will show you the proper driver.
    4) Select the PERC 4/DC driver and then setup your partitions the way you would like them!
From there you should be able to boot into the OS... and really have some fun.
Now you have the power... I guess the choice is yours to R2 or not to R2... that is the real question.  :)
    Enjoy!
    Dave
Thanks and this worked for a Power edge 1800, PERC 4/DC as well. Kukan

  • Windows 2008 Server boot loop and unable to log on in Safe mode

The Situation: I used msconfig to reboot Windows 2008 Server r2 into safe mode. On rebooting, boot progresses ok and the log in screen appears very quickly, then disappears and the machine reboots. I've tried typing the password very quickly and whether
I get it wrong or just can't get enough typed in time, I don't know, but the reboot loop continues. So, i can't log on and can't change safe boot back to normal.
I know Server 2008 uses bcdedit and no longer has a boot.ini, so I don't know if it is still possible manually to amend a boot file so it starts in normal mode again. Can anyone help me to break out of this boot loop without having to resort to anything
    major, such as reinstallation?
Just to make clear, I haven't updated the system and the only change made was with msconfig to require safe boot on restarting.
    Thanks

from the safemode try this syntax
    Syntax: bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc721886(WS.10).aspx
    http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin
How on earth is that a good answer?  Sorry for the necrosis here of bringing up a post 9 months later, but I just ran in to this issue again.  The OP said that he was STUCK IN A BOOT LOOP having placed himself in SAFEMODE already.
How is he supposed to type this in if he can't log in?
What worked for me was to keep striking F8 like a cobra during boot and telling it to use the Last Known Good Configuration option, after the 4th autoreboot, it let me log in and let me switch it back out of the safe mode and back to the normal boot. Yes,
I am aware this is quite lucky and now I don't have to rebuild all my server set up, and that your mileage may vary here, but, keep trying, you might be lucky.

  • Install windows 2008 server r2 as a vm on windows 8.1 pro

I am trying to install windows 2008 server r2 as a vm on an asus I7 4th gen. on windows 8 pro. It goes
thru the install untill completing install and gives error the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unxpexted error windows installation cannot proceed click ok to restart. I do the shift f10 and change the registery to force finsh the install.
It boots up but when I try to do anything. It goes into  netio.sys BSOD issue

I haven't run into that problem, but when setting up the OS, just
remove the NIC from the settings, do the install, make sure it's running, then install the integration
services, reboot, then add the NIC back in.
You could also use a legacy network adapter if that doesn't work.
In any case I'm trying an install of Win2008R2 right now so I can see if I get the same problem...

I get a weird issue trying to launch a VM.
This is the current situation : I get a server, Windows 2008 R2. I've only install Hyper-V and Failover Cluster. I can create a VM but when I try to launch it, I get an error message into a popup (translated from french) : "The application encountered

So, I'm unable to launch my vm's.
I'm not using SCVMM yet. I want to resolve this issue before.
I read some articles and posts about SCVMM certificate issue but I'm not using SCVMM.
More fun, I read articles about this issue but on Windows 2008 Server (not R2) : problem resolved by a fix, unapplicable on my Windows 2008 R2 :)
I'm totalyblocked and ain't got no idea how I can resolve it.
If someone gets I idea ...

  • CF9 install on Windows 2008 Server R2

Hi everyone I've installed Cold Fusion 9 on my windows 2008 Server r2 box and everything appears to be configured correctly becuase I can get to the Cold Fusion 9 Administrator page just fine. I've looked within IIS 7.5 and it's recognizing the .cfm file I think becuase it's an option under default documents. However I try to view the file from the local host I get a error 500.0.
      Module
    IsapiModule
      Notification
    ExecuteRequestHandler
      Handler
    AboMapperCustom-77246
      Error Code
    0x800700c1
I have no idea what that mapper is or what it's supposed to do so if anyone could help me out I would be eternally grateful! Why oh why couldnt cold fusion 9 have native IIS support in it.
    UPDATE
Apparently this error 500.0 gets applied to all my sites within IIS 7.5. Not just the one I intend to use .cfm files on. When I go into the web configuration tool and remove the configured webservers and restart everything goes back to normal but the .cfm files throw a 404.3 not found error for the following module.
    Module StaticFileModule
    Notification ExecuteRequestHandler
    Handler StaticFile

  • Install error 11gR2 on Windows 2008 Server R2

    Hello,
I have a question about an installation error I received on Windows 2008 Server R2 while trying to install the 11g R2 on an test machine. I had downloaded both cd's and extracted them and copied the first cd into an new directory and then tried to copy the second cd into this directory, unfortunately I didn't saw that this step failed. As I started the installation I first didn't saw any error, later the installer brought some exceptions due to missing files (oc4j, context).
I then copied the second cd again (this time it worked) and continued with the installer until it finished.
My question is now, as there are some files missing, do I have the possibility to reinstall the software and which is the best way? Must i first uninstall the software and install it again or does it work if i start the installation (i select only software) again selecting the existing ORACLE_HOME so that the installation is overwritten.
I hope you can help me with an solution for this.
Many thanks in advance to all for your help.
    Regards
    Luis

    Hi,
If in one oracle home you have a successful installation, oracle will automatically deny the installation of a new software in this existing home. If you have a filed installation in some oracle home, then later you can install in the same directory as oracle does not consider this failed installation as a proper oracle home hence it overwrites everything. Even you can't uninstall this failed installation because as i told you that this is not considered an oracle home. but, better way is to run installer and see whether you have an oracle home registered in the directory in which you want to install again and if you find one, then do a deinstall. If you don't see this directory as oracle home, then still better to delete what ever is inside this directory and do the installation.
Under current scenario, your installation is fine and you should not worry.

  • PS CS5 Write Acess Error saving to a windows 2008 server share

    Hi Everyone,
Our macs are running Snow Leopard 10.6.7 and we save/open files on a Windows 2008 Server via SMB,
this particular problem, seems to be happening only with Photoshop:
Sometime, when we try to save an image, photoshop returns a write access error
at that time, if you go to the finder and take a look at the folder, the file had simply vanished.
If you close the image, all lost.
Everything is fine with Indesign and illustrator.
Any help would be much appreciated!!
Thank you all very much in advance.
    William

    Thanks for the reply Chris,
I am trying to look for a solution on the Mac OS side, this problem happens from time to time.
People keep trying to use Active Directory and log macs on it, it's always a problem.
And to make things worse, apple changes the way Mac OS handles network tasks,
they did it with 10.5 and 10.6. Well, we have to deal with that, right?
    Thanks again
    All the best
    William
