Windows 2008 Server boot loop and unable to log on in Safe mode

The Situation: I used msconfig to reboot Windows 2008 Server r2 into safe mode. On rebooting, boot progresses ok and the log in screen appears very quickly, then disappears and the machine reboots. I've tried typing the password very quickly and whether
I get it wrong or just can't get enough typed in time, I don't know, but the reboot loop continues. So, i can't log on and can't change safe boot back to normal.
I know Server 2008 uses bcdedit and no longer has a boot.ini, so I don't know if it is still possible manually to amend a boot file so it starts in normal mode again. Can anyone help me to break out of this boot loop without having to resort to anything
major, such as reinstallation?
Just to make clear, I haven't updated the system and the only change made was with msconfig to require safe boot on restarting.
Thanks

from the safemode try this syntax
Syntax: bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot

How on earth is that a good answer?  Sorry for the necrosis here of bringing up a post 9 months later, but I just ran in to this issue again.  The OP said that he was STUCK IN A BOOT LOOP having placed himself in SAFEMODE already.
How is he supposed to type this in if he can't log in?
What worked for me was to keep striking F8 like a cobra during boot and telling it to use the Last Known Good Configuration option, after the 4th autoreboot, it let me log in and let me switch it back out of the safe mode and back to the normal boot. Yes,
I am aware this is quite lucky and now I don't have to rebuild all my server set up, and that your mileage may vary here, but, keep trying, you might be lucky.

  • Windows 2008 server OS authenticated user keeps failing

I have a new server that has windows 2008 server installed, 64-bit. I've installed oracle 11gR2 64-bit and have created my database. Now I need to create two oracle accounts that are OS authenticated and I can't seem to get this right. I've set os_authent_prefix in my spfile and I've created the user (example) OS$<domain>\<username> in the database. In Windows, the account name equals <username> and that account belongs to Administrators and ora_dba groups. I've tried creating the oracle user with <domain> in caps and lowercase, but both fail. On the server, the domain is all lower case.
So in SQL> create user "OS$my.domain.mil\user1" identified externally; (user created)
    Grant connect to "OS$my.domain.mil\user1";
Log out of sqlplus, pull up command prompt in Windows 2008 server as 'user1' and type in "sqlplus /"
    Invalid username or password.
What am I missing here? Any help appreciated.
SA feedback: "Finally, Windows Server 2008 R2 Operating System has a tighter security scheme than that of previous Windows OS.
Also, it would be helpful if I remove the AD domain controller role from this server. This may require reinstallation of this server (worst case). Let me know when I can do this so you can proceed with your configuration."

    Hello Ricardo,
You may want to reference SAP Note 1054740 - SAP System Installation on Windows Server 2008
and ensure you are on SAP Netweaver 7.0 SR3 or above, and it will also tell you if the product you are installing is supported in Windows 2008 Server.
For database and SAP product combinations that are already
supported by SAP to run on Windows Server 2008, see the Product
    Availability Matrix at: http://service.sap.com/pam
Also check the following: in Regedit.
    SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\gpsvc
Right click on it and select "Permissions" in the context menu.
    Provide "Full Control" for sidadm
Does the installation user has full administrative rights and belongs
to the group of LocalAdministrators and to Global Administrators also
when you are doing a domain installation ?
Please ensure the user <sid>adm has the access rights
to change the file system permission.

  • CF9 install on Windows 2008 Server R2

Hi everyone I've installed Cold Fusion 9 on my windows 2008 Server r2 box and everything appears to be configured correctly becuase I can get to the Cold Fusion 9 Administrator page just fine. I've looked within IIS 7.5 and it's recognizing the .cfm file I think becuase it's an option under default documents. However I try to view the file from the local host I get a error 500.0.
      Module
    IsapiModule
      Notification
    ExecuteRequestHandler
      Handler
    AboMapperCustom-77246
      Error Code
    0x800700c1
I have no idea what that mapper is or what it's supposed to do so if anyone could help me out I would be eternally grateful! Why oh why couldnt cold fusion 9 have native IIS support in it.
    UPDATE
Apparently this error 500.0 gets applied to all my sites within IIS 7.5. Not just the one I intend to use .cfm files on. When I go into the web configuration tool and remove the configured webservers and restart everything goes back to normal but the .cfm files throw a 404.3 not found error for the following module.
    Module StaticFileModule
    Notification ExecuteRequestHandler
    Handler StaticFile

  • JFServer.exe fault in Windows 2008 server with Central V 5.7

I have an installation of Central 5.7 running 6 instances on Windows 2008 server 64 bit and have noticed that the six instances don't always come up when the machine is rebooted.  Here is the error that it logs in the Central Log.
    "Open of table 'C:\Users\Userid|Appdata\Local\Temp\JFX8A00.tmp' failed.
This also sometimes happens when I make changes to jobs in one of the instances and there seems to be no pattern wo what instances it happens in.
This behavior does not appear to happen with Central 5.7 running on XP or 2003 server.
Any thoughts on why this might be happening?

This is a recently known issue specific to Central on Windows 2008

  • Windows 2008 Server and HP Color LaserJet 2605dn Driver Issue when Sharing Printer

I have a HP Color LaserJet 2605dn printer that I need to setup on a Windows 2008 server.  I need the server to act as a Print server, but I have been unable to get any drivers to load other than the 64 Bit Universal drivers.  Because most of the company uses XP (32 and 64 bit), I also need to load those drivers under additional drivers; however, I have been unable to load them, when I point to the INF file (any of the 10 that unzip from the driver package), it says it is not for this printer.  I have even tried the generic 32 bit PS and it says the same thing.  Any ideas on what I am doing incorrectly or where to get the drivers that I need?
    Thanks,
    Gary

Hello, I have the same problem. For the 2605 Printer is only the universal print driver available. Is seems that HP is to be lazy about making new 2008 driver.

  • Windows 2008 Server Enterprise R2 x64 and Perc 4/dc SCSI driver issue

Hello all, this is the first time posting so please forgive me if this has been posted here before.  I did try to search this issue but zero returns.
OK, I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900.  I have just put a fresh install of MS Windows 2008 ENT. Server x64.  I cannot seem to find a driver for the PERC 4/dc SCSI controller I have installed.  I have been told the 2003 x64 driver would work so I attempted to install that driver but was unsuccessful.  Then I was told by Dell that the driver should be native to the OS.  Is the driver native to 2008 Server (or, supposed to be)?  Does anyone have an answer as to where I might retrieve am driver of the controller if not?  Anyway, thanks in advance

    Hello,
I don't have a PowerEdge 2900, but I do have a PowerEdge 2850.  I'm also just a regular bloke like yourself that just happened upon your post and after I figured this driver debacle out I registered to hopefully help.
The good thing is my PERC card is the same in the PE2850 as it is in your PE2900, as I'm utilizing a PERC 4/DC.  I've also managed to run into the same issue you ran into(?) trying to load Windows 2008 Server Enterprise R2 (support for 32bit processors have been removed in R2... so no more x86 versions... my poor PE2650s never stood a chance with this OS).
I can tell you officially from my experience/research Windows Server Enterprise R2 does not have support built into it for the PERC 4/DC card.
However, I was able to download the Windows 2003 x64 driver from support.dell.com and make it work after much trial and error with newer releases of the PERC 4/DC driver that were not accepted by 2k8R2.
    Here's the link:  http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=RC956904&l=en&s=hied&releaseid=R100373&SystemID=PWE_PNT_P3C_2850&servicetag=FBCLP61&os=WX64&osl=en&deviceid=6396&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=3&libid=35&fileid=129549
File name (incase Dell moves it on you guys) is "perc-w2k3-6.46.3.64-A01.exe", date released 6/9/2005, build version 6.46.3.64, and the Dell revision number is A01.
Even though it states the driver is for the LSI Logic PERC 4e/Si it's sort of a mega pack including many other drivers such as the PERC 4/DC.  This was much relief because I was thinking I would need to stick with Windows 2008 until I found this driver for Windows 2008 R2.  :)
    What I did was:
    1) Downloaded the driver and extracted it to a USB drive.
    2) Booted-up via the Win2k8R2 CD and when it got to the screen where it asked to install to a partition and didn't show me a partition to install Win2k8R2 to I selected the option to load a driver.
    3) From the load driver option I just browsed to the directory where I extracted the files and selected that directory.  If the "hide devices that are not compatible" option is selected (normally on by default) it will show you the proper driver.
    4) Select the PERC 4/DC driver and then setup your partitions the way you would like them!
From there you should be able to boot into the OS... and really have some fun.
Now you have the power... I guess the choice is yours to R2 or not to R2... that is the real question.  :)
    Enjoy!
    Dave
Thanks and this worked for a Power edge 1800, PERC 4/DC as well. Kukan

  • Install and uninstall of Oracle 11g R2 on Windows 2008 Server

    Hi,
I installed Oracle 11g R2 and set up a database on Windows 2008 Server following the steps in the Installation Guide and it was successful. After uninstalling the product and doing a re-install, the step to configure the Net Configuration Assistant fails with the following msg.
Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range(s) for the following process(es): JMS
    [5540-5559], RMI [5520-5539], Database Control [5500-5519], EM Agent [3938] | [1830-1849]
Also, when I ran "netca.bat" and tried to reconfigure the Listener, it indicated the default port 1521 is being used. I ran "netstat -an" and do not see the port listed.
    Questions:
What is the best way to check if something was leftover from my previous install of Oracle that is using the default ports?
What do I need to do to ensure a re-install is successful?
    Uninstalling Oracle -
    1.     Log in as the Administrator.
    2.     Stop all Oracle Services.
    3.     From a cmd window, run C:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\deinstall\deinstall.bat.
    4.     Delete the C:\app\oracle directory.
    5.     Remove the following registry entries as per http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/relnotes.112/e16777/toc.htm:
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application\Oracle Services for MTS
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application\OracleDBConsole<SID>
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application\Oracle.<SID>
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application\Oracle.VSSWriter.<SID>
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Oracle11

Johan, after I uninstalled Oracle, I checked to ensure there were no remaining Oracle services remaining.
Srini, below are the steps I followed to uninstall Oracle. In step 3, I just ran deinstall.bat without any parameters and provided required information as prompted. Note, I uninstalled using the Administrator user and not the "oracle" account that I used to install Oracle.
    Uninstalling Oracle -
    1. Log in as the Administrator.
    2. Stop all Oracle Services.
    3. From a cmd window, run C:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\deinstall\deinstall.bat.
    4. Delete the C:\app\oracle directory.
    5. Remove the following registry entries as per http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/relnotes.112/e16777/toc.htm:
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application\Oracle Services for MTS
