MAC requests?

I requested my MAC from my current ISP as BT told me upon ordering my new package. This was last week....
I phoned 1st and was told I had to e-mail, which I did, got confirmation e-mail, then the next day they try to get me to stay with them, when I said no they then decide to start the process.
Now they are saying another 5 working days and blaming it on BT wholesale.
Should I just wait, or do something as my switch over is fast approaching (3rd sept) and BT have already sent 2 reminders.
I had problems with another ISP a few years ago and basicly blasted them down the phone as they kept insisting they couldn't just give me my MAC, they had to request it themselves, yada yada...  amazingly after 30 mins of being stubborn and repeating the phrase "give me my MAC now" to whatever they said, they did give it to me via e-mail.
Thanks
Steve

Under Ofcom regulations, where a consumer or small business (with 10 or less employees) wishes to change broadband provider, a MAC must be issued within 5 working days of the request.

  • Itunes popup on mac requesting for my password, how to turn it off?

When I click the play button on my mac to listen to music it doesn't turn on because itunes keeps requesting for my password for automatic downloads. How do I stop this? It just started after I got my iphone.

@ Ivmedic...    Disabling automatic downloads does not resolve this issue.  I am having the same issue. I open iTunes and get prompted for my log in info for automatic downloads, if you log in the issue returns the next time you open iTunes same as if you hit cancel. Also you actually have to go through this 2 times when opening iTunes before it stops...  Certainly a bug in the 10.5.1 (42) build.
Does anyone know a way of disabling it in the terminal ?

  • MAC request but will need to pay £70 contract canc...

Our present BT Total BB Option 1 costs £14.97/month minus a special 'refund' of £7.50/month = £7.47/month. This runs till July 22. However, we're always way over the 10Gb download and this is bumping it up to well over £30/month. So, I rang the "Get your MAC" number and got through to someone who told me that issuing a MAC would effectively mean I want to cancel this contract resulting in a £70 cancellation fee to be added to my next bill. Can BT do this? Why not give me a MAC and let me pay the £7.47/month until July instead of a £70 cancellation fee?
He then tried to offer me a £24.60/month plus 40GB download limit deal instead but I don't think 40GB is going to be enough. I'd like to try BE Unlimited instead but a £70 cancellation fee just to get the MAC seems exorbitant.

A mac will not cancel your adsl until you provide said mac to new service provider
and it will expire if not used after 30 days so no point getting it yet
the fee is not for the mac it is penalty for early end of existing contract
If any post helps tick the star box on the left
Just cause Im paranoid dont mean they are not out to get me

  • Can to setup Xserve to process all Mac requests for our AD enviornment...

I want to setup one of our XServe to be the directory controller for all of our Mac clients, which the XServe would then pass on to our AD server. Would also like that server to allow searching of Directory Users for iChat, etc. How can I set a system up to basically look like an OD server, but authenticate to our AD server, and also provide directory services to applications like an iChat server?
This system would NOT be pointed to by any PC's. We currently employ about 1300 users, and have about 200 Macs in the building. They want a seemless portal for the Macs in AD. Suggestions, tips, etc? Currently running 10.5.4 on all of our XServes.

  • I have forgotten my password to get into my mac bokok pro. I have used my iPad to reset the password but my Mac book does not recognise the reset password.

I have reset my password using my iPad. Why does my Mac book not recognise it to allow me to log in to it?

What password did you change and what password is your Mac requesting.
Without details all you will get is guesses.

  • Ichat with same .mac account?

Quick question. I have a powerbook and an iMac. I'm on the road a lot and want to be able to chat with the fam while away. Am I able to do this with just one .mac account? If so how? If not, any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

    Hi Martin,
The ISP gave a free account when user in any trouble, ms upfront. Antwerp, Belgium, BlackiBook, virgin, Skynet provider. Default.
Yesterday: iMac24" clean from manuf. User had Linksys only started after Mac request, start and initiation, (.Mac account existing) network connection by start procedure mac.
IMS upfront. iChat not yet initialised. iChat does video, IMS does not, I see
more simularities. Both occasions, same result. I was not excpecting this.
I have not understood this bit.
    What MS Upfront ?
(It is probably dead obvious but it escapes me at the moment)
    What is IMS ?
Do you mean you get a pop up from AIM Pages ?
What exactly is in the Trash can ?
    What IM Application ?

  • Safari, Itues, MSN and Update-programm doesnt open anymore!

    Hey Apple-Team!
    I have a unusuall problem.
Yesterday my mac requested me to turn it off, during i was installing a safrai update. when i switched my mac on again, i was unable to use any programm that uses the internet!!
My Airport ist active and shows that i have a great singanl ! but any application/programm such as safari itunes etc. doesn`t opne anymore. when i click on the symbol eg. the safari symbol it jumps up and down for 5 second as usually but then it stops and does nothing. in other words the programm doesn´t open anymore.
Moreover the softwareupdater doesnt upen too (i quess its caused by the same problem, that no programm that uses the internet doesn`t open anymore"
    thankfull in advance yours Helpseeker
Ps: i am just 19 years old and not a prodigy concerning mac etc. so please use a "freshman" explination!

Welcome to the Apple forums. There is no one from Apple here: we are all users like you and offer suggestions depending on what information we have. Unfortunately from your description, you have had a kernel panic (KP). The computer or OS has had a problem and stopped. Most can be fixed easily, although some may require a bit more work.
If your reading English is up to it, try Doctor Smoke's FAQ on Kernel Panics as there are several useful ideas there. (Buy his book if you can.)
You have restarted and there are problems, so I would suggest a restart with the grey install disk. Select the language then use the menu at the top of the screen to access the Utilities and the application, Disk Utility. Repair the disk.
If you have added RAM recently, that can sometimes be a cause of the KP so removing/replacing that might help (if that is a cause).
It might be helpful as this is internet related if you use Network preferences and create a new Location. Perhaps if you are using "Automatic" there are some settings/data in there that may be causing conflicts.
It might also be useful to create a new Admin account and to work from there (if the other account has problems). Until you can safely use Safari (it is not properly downloaded and the old version is compromised) try to use Firefox or another browser.
In the username>Library>Preferences folder, there are files that end in .plist (property list), find those for Safari, and put them in the Trash.
Try these things and come back to the forum and let us know how it went. If my words are not clear (I know there is a lot here) come back and we will try and explain in another way.
You know how to make coffee? . . . .

  • File sharing issues make file sharing a pain!   Is there a fix?

Noted since install of Snow Leopard, I'm having issues accessing, editing, or renaming files/folders in a "shared" folder.
I work from multiple platforms in multiple locations, as does my staff. Typically I need to: create a file on my office iMac, edit it from my home iMac, edit again on the road from my MacBook Air, have an associate proof/edit/polish from a Windows desktop, and final edits from my office iMac.
Formerly done on a shared folder on the office iMac, we ran into constant permission & access issues (see prior unresolved posts). We've abandoned that approach.
We are now facing the same issues with a new shared folder on the office Windows based server. I can't rename folders I created, I'm not allowed access to files I've created.
We believe this is related to changes to SMB software, but have not located a fix that lets us operate the way we used to, ..the way we need to.
Appears Apple SMB is locking folders & files and not unlocking when appropriate - example create folder from office iMac and later with everything closed and only Finder running not being able to rename the folder.

You can do this if you keep your wits about you and manage the unexpected additional complexity.
    Keep in mind:
The sharing login screens presented each time you reach across to the other Mac request the name and password of a User on the REMOTE computer, but are on the screen of the local computer.
If you are not connected to the User you need, or are connected as "Guest", break the connection and connect again as the specific user you need.

  • How do I do this?: users are not able to change how the calendar interface looks, a central authority (admin or other) must be able to shedule events into the calendars of all users.

First off my advice is not to use your Mac as an Administrator only provide Admin Password when your Mac requests and only when your "Child" is not in the room!!!
It is all to do with Permissions:  Login as an Administrator click on Go in the menu bar, Select Computer, Select Macintosh HD, Select Users Select the User Folders you want to look at you will see a series of folders with red circles highlight each one in turn and Get Info unlock the Padlock in the Info pane then add Administrator to Read/Write
After this I hope you and your Son stay friends for many years

  • File sharing issues in one direction through ethernet cable

I have 2 macs, running 10.6.8.  I have connected them through an ethernet cable.  I have turned file sharing on.  I can connect to the other computer on both computers, and I can see the directories in the finder on both computers.  If I go to my desktop computer and try to copy something from the laptop to the desktop computer, it asks for a login, and then it copies no problem.
If I go to the laptop and try to do the same copy (laptop to desktop computer), I enter my password and get:
The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.
If it's a single file I try to copy, then I get:
The operation can’t be completed because an item with the name “” already exists.
And a zero-byte file is copied to the desktop computer.
I note that when I try from the desktop, I don't get the file sharing login where I can choose guest of registered user.  I get a finder permission login instead.
What gives?  Do i have some setting wrong somewhere?
    Thanks
    Mark

  • Macbook Pro EFI Firmware update

    Hi,
i have a macbook pro bought in may 2011. (updated to Lion OS)
Yesterday my MAC request firmware update (EFI).
after 16 hourd is still updating.
The display show me a grey screen with a circle progress bar...
too long! isn't it? I am a little bit scared of powering off the machine..
Please let me know what should i do..
    Thank you in advance

Also, my version of MacBook EFI Firmware Update is at 1.2
I have that same 1.2 update on my new Macbook Pro. It transferred over when I used set up assistant to migrate everything over from my old Macbook Pro. That 1.2 came originally in 2006 I believe. As it stated it will not run on your current machine - I got the same message. According to your specs above which are identical to mine you don't need this current update, you already have a later one on your machine as I do. There's nothing that you need to do.

  • One way contact

    Hi All,
Problem is, I can video chat with my brother, who also has a Mac, no problem
    Both using Mac accounts.
When I try to contact my son, who has a PC (poor chap) we can text chat OK, but no video.
The requests get rejected even though 'accept' has been clicked.
So... I've set up a PC (laptop) at home here so I can test the system, talking Mac to PC, and PC to Mac.
I've downloaded the AIM software and got an AIM screen name for the PC.
    Now...
Both can 'see' the other and both know when each is available.
I can set up a text chat between the two.
When the PC requests a video chat from the Mac, it works fine.
But... When the Mac requests a video chat with the PC, the PC gets the request and I click 'accept' on the PC.
Then the Mac says 'starting video chat with PC' but then says 'PC rejected the request', and the PC says 'request timed out'.
I don't know if whatever this problem is, it relates to the problems with contacting my son, but obviously there's a problem somewhere that could be sorted.
I regularly check the speed this end, and it's normally between 850k and 950k both down and up. Sometimes close to 1M.
I'm using an Airport Extreme base station, with internet connection via wireless network to a hill about 9.4kM away.
    Don't suppose that's relevant.
    All ideas welcome.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ron

    Hi Steve,
The AIM is version 6.1.41.2 - just downloaded.
You are right. Just tried changing the Win firewall setting to 'medium/low', whatever that means, and it now works both ways.
So the problem with connecting to my son's computer may be something similar.
I'm afraid I've no idea about Win's firewall settings.
There should be some better way of changing it for video chat without this general 'medium/low' thing.
    Thanks.
    Ron

  • Error:  "Could not complete your request because of a program error" (photoshop CS2 9.0.2 on MAC OSX

Today I started my program (photoshop CS2 9.0.2) and opened a JPG file. When I went to print the file the program crashed and closed. When I restarted the program and went to open the file I got this error message, "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
I have tried several different file types/sizes and all result in the same error message since the program crashed. It will not open any file I try to open. As I indicated above I am using Photoshop CS2 9.0.2 it is on a MAC with OSX 10.4.11.
I called Adobe and the Rep directed me to Tech Note 331307 and told me to Re-create the Photoshop preferences files. Which I did and restarted the program, but when I tried to open a file (any file) I still get the same error message so it doesn't appear to be the preferences.
Does anyone have any info as to what the problem may be and how to correct it.
    Thanks

Thanks for the response. OK... This is the first day I have been able to get back to the problem.
My system I am running Photoshop on is a Power Mac G4, AGP Graphics ATY Rage 128Pro chip set 16MB VRAM LCD 1280x1024 32-bit color, 500MHz, 1.75GB of memory, 1 MB L2 Cache, 100 MHz Bus Speed. I had installed the latest security update and repaired the permissions the day the problem started.
Now to day I started the system and went in and created a Guest Account. I logged into the guest account and started Photoshop. Low and behold it worked just fine. So I logged out of guest and logged into my main user account And started Photoshop. Wouldn't you know it.... It works just fine. I can open any file I want with now problems.
I got to thinking after I had done all of this that I wished I had tried to open a file in Photoshop today prior to creating the guest account to see if it still had the problem in my main user account.
I did not change anything else on the system and all seems to work fine now. So at his point I am really not sure what the problem was.
Again thanks for taking the time to respond to this issue.
