.mac vs .me chat,are there differences in id's??

I have been using my .mac account. Does that mean there is a .me chat name that I haven't used yet? A .mac and a .me chat name are seperate id's, right?
Is one different (behind the scenes) in operation (both with AIM and Mac networks)?

Hi,
An older @mac account has the advantage that Trial or Lapsed Paid for accounts work as iChat IDs/Screen Names where as the MobileMe (@me.com) ones do not.
as MobileMe would then be paid for to work in iChat you get all the other services Apple offers with that.
You can use Both names.
In iChat > Preferences > Accounts you can set up as many AIM, Apple and Jabber IDs was you want.
In iChat 3 you can have one AIM/Apple ID logged in and one Jabber ID logged in at one time which gives you three Buddy list if Bonjour is On as well.
In iChat 4 you can use the "Use this Account" check box in Every account/Screen Name in the ichat Preferences > Accounts and have as many Buddy Lists as you have Screen Names.
I would say that one is "better" than another.
AIM ones can be a bit more anonymous and less email looking. (Also free)
@mac.com ones can be free if they were a trial or have lapsed (I must admit about not knowing if you convert it to a MobileMe account with the @mac.com name once you stop paying)
The @me.com one works as a trial for the first 60 Days. The trial has to be actively cancelled or you get charged but does come with the extra services.
Jabber IDs and GoogeTalk fall the same way.

    Hello Malcolm,
    Thanks for the responce. I did not even think about that. So do think that it would be better for me to get the ATI 9200 video card that has a s-video plug built into it. Bellow is the link to it here on the Apple site. Thanks again and any help will be great.

  • Are there differences between Solaris 8 and Solaris 2.6 in the way web pages are displayed for Chinese and Korean text using UTF-8 settings?

    A user is running a web application on Solaris Release 2.6 with UTF-8. After the server was updated to Solaris 8, the application is experiencing problems with webpages containing Korean and Chinese text. The encoding is UTF-8. Has anyone experienced this problem? I checked the packages installed on Solaris 8 and they are consistent with what was installed on Solaris 2.6. Could this possibly be a patch-level problem? Thank you.

  • I have logitech webcam exe files that I want to play on mac 10.8.2  Are there conversions to accomplish this?

    I have old logitech webcam exe files that I want to play on Mac 10.8.2. How do I make conversions to accomplish this.

    My son suggested a fix that worked for me.  I was trying to convert some videos taken 10 years ago using a Logitech Quickcam.  The videos were saved as video email player which made them exe files.  The fix is to use a screen capture program (we used Bandicam) to capture the video while playing the video file.  Had to save them as WMV files which I then converted to M4V files to play on my MAC.  I could size the capture window which made it a perfect fit to the video.  It turned out great as I now can play those videos in Windows Media Player, and Quick Time.  I am no longer in danger of loosing precious family videos.  Thank you for all your help.

  • Are there jumpers on a Mac g4 Mdd

    I am swapping from a 867 Mirror drive to a 1.25 ghz processor on a Mac g4 MDD. Are there any jumpers that need to changed???
    Please Help
    Thanx

    Have a search on google for the Apple Technical Service Manual for the MDD (it also covers the FW800). It's about 165 pages of detailed diagramed hardware topics for the MDD. It's under 4MB as a pdf.
    I found a note in it this morning about upgrading the CPU, it says to check the fabrication level, stamped on the motherboard close to the fifth PCI slot. If it's one of 820-1308, 820-1440, or 820-1445, you need a new logic board with the new processor.
    Enough said, you can read the document yourself to get the full details. If you have trouble finding it, have a search in this forum, I'm sure someone's posted a link to it before.

  • Are there any differences between using Adobe Illustrator on a MAC and on a PC?

    Hello,
    I'm about go enroll in a class specialized for teaching Adobe Illustrator in order to be able to use the program at work.  The company that I work at uses Macintosh computers to deal with clerical work and everything, so I would like to know if there are any differences between using Adobe Ilustrator on a MAC and on a PC.  The school that offers training teaches two types of classes, where one uses Illustrator on a MAC, and the other one on a PC.  The PC class is able to have an earlier start date, which is why I'm sort of leaning towards choosing that class as I need to be able to use the software as soon as possible, but if there are main differences between the interface that will affect my knowledge of using Illustrator on a MAC after I take the class with Windows systems, then I will most likely be waiting for the class teaching in MAC systems.
    Thanks in advance for the help!
    Oh and another suggestion- should I take the Illustrator class in CS6 or CS5?

    Reading through the CS5 vs CS6 performance thread, the Mac version seems to have worse performance than Windows version.  From a starter's perspective the differences would most likely never be realized.  It will take some time to see differences between even CS5 and CS6 other than the visual aspect of course.
    Definitely take the CS6 versionso you can say you have it.  CS5 is my preferred version, CS6 is garbage with the bugs it has for the type of work I use it for.

  • I'm buying a new computer for use with Creative Cloud. Are there any advantages to PC vs Mac?

    I'm replacing a seven year old Dell that still works but is getting rather long in the tooth. I have CS4 web design. (For PC)
    I have a Macbook Pro (so I'm familar with Mac OS)
    I'm upgrading my computer to mainly use the Creative Cloud.
    Are there any advantages (related to Creative Cloud) to buying a Mac or a PC?
    I just don;t wan't to a Mac and then find that many features don;t work that are on the PC (or vice versa)
    Or is one interface easier to use than another?
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    It usually boils down to personal preference.
    The software is, to all intents and purposes, the same in either operating system. There are minor differences between them, usually related to the hardware or the operating system. But if you can use the software in Windows, you'll be able to use it on a Mac too.
    It's a matter of which environment you prefer: Windows or Mac. I use both daily since the Cloud allows you to install on Windows and/or Mac.

  • One of the users on my Mac book pro, running Mountain lion finds that no changes made in last session are there next time they log on

    One of the users on my Mac book pro running mountain lion finds that no changes made in last session are there next time they log on.
    For instance, the Macintosh HD icon, is always moved so that it is almost off the screen to top left hand side of the desktop.
    None of my changes to the sidebar in the finder are there.
    My changes to the dock have reverted.
    Despite unticking the box when logging out, even though i have quit all applications, iphoto and safari are always re-opened.
    iphoto always says the library needs to be upgraded... even though i did that the last time.
    I have tried deleting ALL the files in the "Saved application state" folder in the library folder, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
    This is on a second admin user account.
    The main user account seems to be fine.
    This account used to be in the filevault on Lion, but is not now in Mountain Lion.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    The same tragic thing happened to me, not even a full two days after I bought it. I immediately powered it off, wiped it as best I could, and put it in front of a fan. I tried valiantly to get the back off, but couldn't remove all the screws. I was basically inconsolable until I realized that no matter what, my credit card insurance would cover it, since it had been less than 90 days. Fast forward 48 hours, and it seemed to run just fine. Some of the keys and the track pad were sticky, and I figured since it was covered, I might as well get it fixed. My only concern at this point was had I voided the Apple Care. I brought it in, told them what happened, said what I needed to satisfy the credit card, and they said, "We'll just swap it out for you, no problem." I was thrilled, and the Genius said they appreciated my honesty, and it was easier for all parties to just do it this way. And my Apple Care was transferred to the new machine. This was my first Mac and, needless to say, I am now an Apple devotee.

  • Are there any differences between black and white?

    Hi, this is the question:
    Are there any differences between a black and a white macbook (2,0 Ghz) except the coulor? I am thinking about buying a macbook but i dont know really what to do
    Coul someone help me plz?

    This page explains the differences between the two white macbooks and the black mac book: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/0.RSLID?mco=A 4791B5D&nclm=MacBook
    It should answer any questions you have about all three.
    The lowest price macbook has a less fast processor, and the same size hard drive as the middle priced macbook. The lowest priced one also does not have a DVD burner while the middle priced white one does and the black one.
    The black macbook has a bigger harddrive then the middle priced macbook and thats about all thats different between the middle priced white one and the black one.

  • How do I copy photos from my Mac to my iPad without deleting the ones that are there?

    I understand how to sync photos from my iPhoto library to my iPad. I want to copy photos from my Mac to the iPad without syncing, because syncing deletes everything on the iPad that isn't included in my sync selections. In addition,I have several iPhoto libraries and want to copy photos from each of them to the iPad. A further issue is that apparently photos can be synced from only one computer to the iPad -- how would I copy photos from a different computer? (What happens when I buy a new Mac?) I am extremely experienced with Mac, iPhoto/Aperture, iPad, etc. A year or two ago I transferred 1000 photos to the iPad but I don't remember how, and it was probably done with my previous Mac. Now I just want to add some recent photos without deleting the ones that are there. Bottom line: is there a way to add photos to an iPad without syncing and losing what's there?

    You can still sync the photos and keep the photos that are already on the device. You have to include all of the albums or events in the pictures folder that you sync from. If you are using iPhoto, select that in the Sync Photos from drop down menu and then select all of the albums or events that you want to sync. Make sure to check Selected Albums, events, faces and automatically include (no events). Using that option will allow you to choose exactly which albums and events to sync.
    You have to remember that all photos must be included in every sync so you cannot sync photos from iPhoto today and then try to sync photos from another folder tomorrow, or you will erase all of the photos that were synced from iPhoto. You need to maintain one main Photos syncing folder for the photos that you want to transfer to the iPad. You can have subfolders within that one main folder and you can selectively sync those subfolders. You just have to place all of the photos that you want to sync into one main iPad syncing photos folder.
    There are WiFi transfer apps that allow you to transfer photos to the iPad without having to sync with iTunes. I use this one. This app (and others like it) will allow you to use multiple computers to transfer photos.

  • There are many jre exe files: what are the differences and which I choose?

    Having some problems, that I will describe in another message, I was looking for the latest jre.
    I saw that on www.java.com there is 6 update 1, whereas on www.sun.com there is already 6 update 2. So, I would like to know when an update is made available on www.java.com and through automatic updates?
    Also, I saw different names, and I would like to understand in an exact way what are the differences:
    jre-6-windows-i586.exe;
    jre-6-windows-i586-iftw.exe;
    jre-6u1-windows-i586-p-s.exe;
    jre-6u1-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe;
    jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe;
    jre-6u2-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe;
    I understand that te iftw part means the it is a small download, only the setup module. But why there are some files that end with "-p", some with "-p-s", sm with "-i586"?
    Thank You

    The question mark icon on the dlls indicates that LabVIEW is unsure of
    the location of the DLL, or is unable to locate the DLL on your
    system.  This can happen if the DLLs do not exist, or if the "Call
    Library Function Node" just specifies the name of the dll, and not the
    entire path to the dll.  IVI and Instrument driver VIs will
    typically not supply the entire path to the DLL, whch would cause the
    question mark icon to appear.
    If your application is working properly, then you should ignore the
    question mark in the dependencies list.  If your application is
    broken because the DLLs cannot be found, they are installed with the
    following drivers:
    ivi.dll is installed with the IVI compliance package, which is available at the following link:
    Drivers and Updates: IVI Compliance Package
    You should also install the latest version of NI-VISA, which is required by the IVI Compliance Package:
    Drivers and Updates: NI-VISA

  • Are there any differences between Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 that might impact TFS or SQL server required for TFS?

    Hi,
    In the interest of just getting started and learning the basics of setting up TFS, I previously setup an IDE using a large workstation running Windows 8.  I set up the required servers for TFS using VM's through Hyper-V.  I am now transferring
    everything to a new and separate physical server.
    My question stems from a problem I had when I originally setup the TFS system the 1st time.  I couldn't get SQL server to work using the Server 2012 R2 download from the subscription center.  When I used Server 2012, it worked, so I proceeded that
    way just to get going.
    So now I'm setting things up anew on a new physical box, I want to ask up front, is there some difference in the R2 version that causes problems with either TFS or SQL server, or was there likely some oversight on my part when I did things the 1st time?
    As an addendum to my question, I always assumed R2 merely means the Server software has progressed to a refined state and is ready for wide distribution and easy setup.  I assumed that there are no differences between the Standard version and the R2
    version.  Is that understanding correct?
    Thanks.

    Hi Daniel,
    Thanks for your response.  That's a great link.  I don't recall seeing a page that is so clear and easy to read back when I was doing this the 1st time, but I probably just missed it.  That helps.
    I am/was using TFS2013 and VS2013.  As I recall, my problem was getting SQL Server to work, but I thought asking this question on this forum was wiser because I figured everyone using TFS would be well familiar with these issues.
    At any rate, it seems as though TFS2013 is fine with Server 2012 standard or R2.
    I was using SQL Server 2012, and it also seems as though it works on R2:

    Anyway, thanks for your support.  I'll be trying this again and we'll see.
