Macbook apps

i am a new owner of a second hand MacBook Pro, and as the device was bought second hand it does not have any of the originally included apps due to it being factory reset before purchase; e.g. iPhoto and Pages. is there any way i would be able to download these without having to purchase them again from the App Store?

Try just downloading from here -> http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/. You need to double-click on the disk image so it will mount, double-click on the package file and then follow the instructions to install. You'll need to restart your browser for the extension to load.
Good luck,
Clinton

  • Replicating Safari, Mail records of iMac apps to Macbook apps using TM

My IMac HDD died which is no prob since I have 3yr extended warranty and while it is out of commission (and just for plain convenience anyways) I wish to replicate my entire email archives PLUS and more importantly my autofill, history, cookies et al from the Safari backups on my WD Tb to my MacBook.
I have long used the false security of Back to my Mac screen sharing which appears to have been only a rather lame and weak even if somewhat more secure substitute for full synchronization which does not seem to be possible.
I have this same beef with .mac(MobilMe) because due to the disparity between drive sizes on IMacs and MacBooks it is impractical to do complete synching between them due to the much larger installed software capability of the IMac (notably bloatware like AdobeCS, Iwork, ILife and WinXP on it's own VMware NTFS partition). Thus in spite of using password and username redundancy (for my own sanity) I've had to settle for synching keychains and preferences only even though not Tray and Widget items and trial or seldom used apps etc. for which there is simply not enough room on a 120Gb drive.
Thus I used both Backup.app for special cases backing up selected document backups(avoiding Downloads) to .mac and Time Machine avoiding all/most media, and applications folders (since those software updates plus Miro and EyeTV deletes (and reorganizing/re-filing editing my own pictures music & videos were eating up my Terabyte drive alarmingly with useless duplications of often quite disposable or redundantly relocated hugeitems in document workspaces)
So now my question is how do I replicate my master mail account, which used different (leave on server mail pickup preferences and never synched fully with the archive on my IMac, and my master Safari history (which I never erase since I'm more worried about me not bookmarking it than someone else checking it out) and Safari's autofill and cookie files or folders replaced on this MacBook, to get my life, which was backed up at 5:40AM moments before my HDD choked it's last moved over and replicated to my mundane basic MacBook apps?
My MacBook Safari has the preferences and OS-spam bloated plus my basic sparse general bookmarks synched only, not the important stuff like history, cookies and autofill in spite of my synching keychains which apparently doesn't work since I've read Safari has my autofills strewn around in Address Book or somesuch irrational craziness??
At least does anybody know how to do a simple Netscape type whole User file swap on Safari?

What on earth is wrong with this OSX nightmare?
First of all my second MacBook computer (which is a bit newer) has information on it that was unfortunately never properly or completely synchronized despite my reasonable attempts to do so, (not including that complete "first edition" of incremental laptop apps and data lost when the HDD died the first month I attempted to set it up, 3 months after I bought it) due to the several email accounts POP server settings that had to be different in order to assure that I could use my many older pre-existing POP server accounts in READ ONLY MODE in MAIL on the rare occasions I needed a laptop.
Second of all I am "userme" (*example) and "userme's" folder is userme's initials "UM" and that remains the same as does "userme's password" regardless of what ever mac it is I shall ever use or own! It is irrational for me to have to have 2 or 3 or 5 different admin passwords, usernames, shortuser names and login passwords for as many Macs as I should want to own (and moreover, use screen sharing, Time Machine and .mac with! This is why UNIX invented machine names...
Third of all, I am paying for a .mac account which only one Mac which I own and run OSX on can use Time Machine on which unfortunately due to it's stingy disk space and woefully slothful speeds and bandwidth limitations is useless for Time Machine, and of course it appears that I need a separate Terabyte+ Time Machine backup external drive for each computer since Time Machine cannot differentiate (it's duplicatfile+ uselessbloatfile+ redundantly named) non-unique backups on a single sharable external drive let alone access a shared network one should I wish to use my Airport Extreme's slothful local network clogging USB port to do so.
Thus i have to have a Firewire Terabyte WD MyBook that is 60% consumed by/for IMac backups and a spare TrekStore 500Gb USB (that I have yet to setup) for Time Machine backups on for the MacBook. This is solely because the IMac and MacBook are incompatible in file system size, and cannot host anywhere near a similar compliment of apps or documents, because Apple refused to allow me to exchange and pay for the difference in price between the price of a system-compatible (then 250Gb) HDD I was insistent on for my MacBook HDD after the lame 120GB one suppled with it croaked on arrival! Now the the 250Gb one in the Imac is croaked too this may be a silver lining since i shall not accept it back as repaired unless I am allowed to have the defective device replaced with a 320Gb replacement regardless of warranty policy, charge nor price! (the IMac is so frighteningly and mysteriously constructed it is apparently in no way user replace or upgradable)
Thirdly for my old Windows PC "My Documents" archives (which I still have thankfully on my pile of old PC's) and the few newer software receipts and junk I did backup on .mac the Backup app that you have suppled appears to be likewise similarly totally dysfunctional as well as is the Migration Assistant app since the Migration Assistant app will ruin the Time Machine backups on my WD Terabyte drive and the Backup app WILL NOT RESTORE any files stored at .mac backed up from my IMac onto my MacBook because even though it appears to mount them after a prodigious unmonitored period of waiting selecting any (actually had to try 11 times till I discovered only the last one) of the dozen 'fullbackup' documents or the 20 random differently dated and all incomplete "incrementalbackup" documents and selecting all or any part within them whether choosing to "restore to a different location" (since the IMac locations don't exist on the MacBook) or not, the "Restore files" button remains grayed out!!!
Just what business is it of Time Machine or Backup what my username and user folder is called?

  • Are macbook apps transferable from one system to another?

If I install iworks in macbook pro now; and tommorow if i buy a new macbook pro, is it possible to transfer the i works app from the existing one to the new one?

To install OS X Lion or Mountain Lion on another Mac, open the Mac App Store, sign in to your account, and re-download the OS by selecting it in the Purchases list. Follow these steps:
Download Lion or Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store on one of your personal authorized Macs. The download is approximately 4 GB in size.
    Install the OS.
Log in to another computer that you wish to install it on.
Open the Mac App Store. Enter your Apple ID and password that was used to download either Lion or Mountain Lion on the first computer.
Click the Purchased icon, then click the download link for the appropriate OS.
Run the Installer once it has finished downloading to the new Mac.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4854
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/os_x_mountain_lion?view=discussio ns
I suggest you download it once, save the installer ESD package first before installing, and keep that to use again. You can copy it to flash drive and make an OS X installer too.
Create a bootable install drive for OS X Mountain Lion, make one manually with a USB drive or use the LionDiskMaker tool to automate the process with a USB or DVD
With the boot installer drive connected to the Mac, reboot and hold down the Option key
Choose the “Mac OS X Installer” startup volume from the boot menu
Select “Disk Utility” and choose the hard drive you wish to format, click the “Erase” tab, and then pull down the “Format” menu and select “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” as the type, name the drive if you wish
Click the “Erase” button and let the drive format – this is the point of no return
When finished, quit out of Disk Utility and now select the “Install Mac OS X” option from the menu
Choose your freshly formatted hard drive and install Mountain Lion
When the Mac reboots you will have a clean installation of Mac OS X 10.8 to work with.
    Another reliable method:
After you’ve downloaded the OS X Mountain Lion installer from the Mac App Store, launch LionDiskMaker and it will locate the installer app, extract the disk image, and then make the boot disk. It’s about as simple as it gets.
For USB install drives or SD cards the drive needs at least 8GB of space available. LionDiskMaker formats the drive you point it at, remember that when you are picking a disk to make bootable for the installer.
Get the newest version of LinoDiskMaker free from the developer

  • Transfer macbook apps to ipad

  • Changing Country of my Apple ID (Macbook App Store)

I own an Apple Macbook Pro. I bought it in India. I recently shifted to Singapore.
I am unable to use my Apple ID to download apps and updates from App Store. I am unable to add my Singapore Credit Card to my Apple ID. I was wondering if it is tightly coupled to the country?

    Hi,
I had the same situation, I used to live in the US and now in UK. I found the only thing I could do (apart of re-purchasing) was to create new account. So I now have a US account and UK account, as the updates are free it doesn't matter that I don't have a US credit card anymore, I am just using a friend's address as the account needs a home address.
It is not ideal as I have to log out of the UK account and log into the US account every now and again to get the updates but it is better than re-purchasing.
Another tip, if for some reason I do want to add credit to my US account, althoguh I can't use a credit card I just pick up iTunes prepay cards when I go back to US on business trips and add them the credit from those to the account.
    Hope that helps.

  • Macbook apps want to use my firefox/chrome proxy

Hi I am new to MacBooks, I have a MacBook Pro 13" with OS X Snow Leopard operating system
I use a proxy to watch BBC iPlayer from outside of the UK, I had that set up in Firefox preferences and also a proxy switcher add-on so firefox itself would only use the proxy when it was turned on in the browser.
I also installed Google Chrome and use "Switchy" so I can also change the proxy with the click of an icon, I entered the proxy details directly into Switchy.
Both forms of turning on and off the proxy work fine for the browsers, However all of the Mac Apps also want to use the proxy too even though I only want it in the browsers. I get the prompt Garageband/update/iTunes or whatever wants to use the password in my keychain access to access the proxy.
I have now deleted the password from my keychain and also deleted all proxy settings from firefox (it now says no proxy) I now only have the proxy settings in google chrome's Switchy extension. Google Chrome offers to remember the password for the proxy and it doesn't get written to Keychain Access.
Mac applications still insist on having the name and password for the proxy, the proxy is very slow so software updates etc really arent practical. Where can I tell the system to stop using the proxy?
Thanks for any light anyone can shine on this

OK update: It seems if either of the browsers is using the proxy then it writes it into the system preferences so the whole system wants to use the proxy, so I can do updates and apps can access the internet without the proxy so long as I am not using the proxy in a browser
It's a workaround but is there a neater way of doing it?

  • Selling Macbook- App Store still shows my app updates

I'm selling my macbook pro and have signed out of the app store, but the app store still shows that 4 updates are available (for me, not for the new owner)- any way to 'reset' the app store on the mac?
Everything else has been reset: itunes, user accounts, etc.

Do yourself, and the buyer a favor and do the smart thing..erase the drive and reinstall the OS before selling it.

  • Trouble finding macbook apps

I go to itunes and see apps for iphones and ipads, but there is not a section for apps for mac computers. I used to have the twitter app, but it stopped working so I deleted it and tried to find it in the app store, but could only find the iphone and ipad versions. Is there a tab in itunes or a way to search that separates apps for computers from the others? Thanks

"but there is not a section for apps for mac computers."  That is correct.  The itunes store does not sell apps for your computer at all.  It sells apps for ipod/ipad/iphone only.
There is a Mac Apps store that sells these.

  • Mavericks, Macbook, App Store

I've recently downloaded Maverick to my computer, and since this download I am unable to "connect to the app store". I have tried to reinstall Maverick and that still did not help. I also ran a disk utility to repair any problems. I am still unable to update any of my apps on my computer because I can't connect to the store. I don't know what else to do. Anyone have some suggestions?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • Find My MacBook App?

Is there an app for my iPhone that would let me find my MacBookPro like I can find my iPhone from my laptop?
I searched the forums and found some news about something coming in Lion?

Does anyone have any updates on this?
I'm running Paralllels which means I'd actually prefer to hold off on a Lion upgrade but I'd likely upgrade soon if this is in fact the case.
    Thanks for any tips.

  • New MacBook - Apps Keep Crashing - What Do I Do

Hey. I just got a new MacBook (2Ghz CD2) for Christmas. Strangely, things have been crashing frequently since I got it. Big Bang Chess seems does this a lot, Quicksilver did it sevearl times when I tried to install it, and iMovie HD and Safari have also crashed once or twice.
I doubt this is typical behaviour. XP
I ran the Disc Utility -> Verify Disc thing on my drive, and it came up without any errors. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Jeremy,
You were on the right track using Disk Utility to verify your disk. Unfortunately, a clean bill of health from Disk Utility isn't necessarily a guarantee that something hasn't occurred, and the OS hasn't been damaged. Disk repair happens automatically when OS X starts or restarts, and some potential disk error could have been repaired before you were aware of it. The problem with this is that a repair of a bona fide disk error won't restore damaged files to their original state; the file system will be repaired, but damaged files will remain damaged.
The only way to be absolutely certain that a file system-related problem does not exist is to format the drive and reinstall, and to do so using the "Zero All Data" option in Disk Utility (with the physical drive selected, not any volume it contains). Formatting an entire drive with the "zero" option selected will map out any bad blocks on the drive, and the likelihood of disk errors will be greatly reduced for the immediate future.
However, another possibility is that you simply have a bad or poorly seated RAM module. In such a case, one would experience exactly the symptoms you seem to be experiencing. First, remove all DIMMS, reinstall them making sure that they are firmly seated, then test. If there are 2 DIMMS installed, you can also try removing one DIMM, then testing. If the problem persists, swap DIMMS and test again.
The behavior you are experiencing could just as easily be caused by either of the above (disk errors or bad RAM). Since it is quite easy to remove and install RAM, you should test this out first. If the behavior persists, and/or you only have a single DIMM installed, you'll need to format and reinstall, using the "zero" option.
If you have formatted and reinstalled, and you have performed every RAM troubleshooting possibility available to you, yet the problems persist, you'll need to have it looked at by an Apple tech. At this point, you'll be looking at either bad RAM that you are not able to pinpoint or a bad logic board.
    Scott
BTW, you are correct that this is not typical behavior
