MacBook doesn't like power status change
If I connect or disconnect the AC adapter while my MacBook is shut and asleep, quite often (but not always) when I re-open the machine it has frozen and I get the message telling me to force shutdown/restart by pressing the power button for several seconds. This seems to be a new pattern of behaviour for my 1-year-old machine - it's only been happening in the last couple of weeks.
I have tried resetting the PRAM and also resetting the SMC but it still happened just now when I reconnected the Magsafe with the machine shut and asleep.
Advice welcome!
Yahoo Games Java - Pinochle for me - has been a consistent problem with all versions of Safari and OSX
BUT - has not worked at all with 10.5.x - 10.4.x was ok
However, for some reason works fine with Firefox
(although 'font smoothing' with latest Java 6.0 is now not so 'smooth' and the 'font smoothing' check box is not now available as an option, but will investigate that situation further as time permits)
Granted, with 10.5.x Safari can access the initial screens, but get the "Unable to connect to server" message window saying "one of four things could caused this: firewall, server down, stale page" but the most interesting is "not connected to internet" (ah, Yahoo, if not connected to internet how are we able to get to that screen?
Nevertheless, might be some 'configuring' possible between which Java will be used - 6.0 or 5.0 etc, will investigate that also.
But Apple
Hope you can get something figured out on this
Seems very very interesting that Firefox does work
But Safari, right out of the box, does not
Thanks, BC

Can AIR detect power status changes?
I'm trying to go through the API documentation and wondering
if there's a way for AIR to be able to detect when the computer

application can react accordingly. Anyone knows if this is
possible, or not at all?

T530 does not make typical ThinkPad Power Status Beeps
Hello,
I just got my ThinkPad T530. Things are going ok with it, the keyboard isn't as terrible as I had thought - but certainly didn't wow me like the keyboard on my T510 which I think was the best keyboard any ThinkPad ever had.
Anyway, something I have noticed, and that is sort of a problem for me, is that this computer is not making the typical "power status change" beeps that every other ThinkPad has ever made. You know, the dee-dum, dum-dee that go along with plugging or unplugging the AC power adapter. Also no single beep when it finishes going to sleep, or wakes up from sleep.
Anyone know how I get these back? I didn't see anything obvious in the BIOS or Power Manager.
Solved!
Go to Solution.hey brillat,
Could you tell us what version of Power Manager you have on your computer?
DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED
1. Start Power Manager. The main screen will be displayed. 2. Click '?' mark at the top right of the main screen, and select the 'About Power Manager...' . The version will be displayed.
thanks!
Best Regards,
Hiro

We are running TFS2012 Update 4 and have set up some build alerts. The alert we have set up is "A build controller or agent's status changes". When this alert is first set up the default filters which are included are for fields "Team
Project" and "Status". However through much testing we have discovered that when either of these fields are included as a filter the alert doesn't work. When other fields are used in the filter the alert works fine (as long
as neither of the stated fields are included), indeed if all alert filters are removed then the alert also works successfully. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there an issue with the fields "Team Project" and "Status"?Hi T Quinn,
Thanks for your post.
I reproduced this scenario in my TFS 2012 Update 4 Server and received the same result.

MacBook Pro doesn't like my 3rd gen. iPod
Just got a new MacBook Pro (work-issue = no administrator password for me), which replaced a Titanium PowerBook. Tried to hook up and sync my 3rd gen. iPod for the first time, using the Firewire port of course. (Music library has already moved to new machine.)
The iPod doesn't seem to be seen by the MacBook Pro. It doesn't show up in the iTunes source list or on the desktop. The iPod goes into "Do Not Disconnect" mode, then it freezes.
I've seen other people posting with similar or same issues, but no resolution. What could be going on?
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.5)Update: I have discovered that if I connect the iPod to the Mac with the Firewire cable only, things work perfectly. If I connect thru the dock with the iPod sitting in it (like I was before), things go haywire.
So I guess the MacBook Pro likes my 3rd gen. iPod just fine. The iPod dock is what it doesn't like.
Weird. Thanks for all your thoughts.

A while back our Xserve G5 went on UPS power for a few seconds. No big deal just a power blip.
Since then we get a "Power Supply Status Changed" message in the server log ever 12 seconds. I can't get it to go away. Server has been rebooted multiple times.
The OS Version is 10.4.1
Everything is functioning normally and there are no power problems. How do I stop this message? We are also using the APC. Not sure which model, but we are also getting the same messages. We disconnected the cable early last week and the message is still going. We have been investigating all logs on our server for another problem which is where the server just stops being available on the network. To fix requires a restart using the power button to turn if off and then on again.
Then all is normal except for the "Power Supply Status Changed" error.
So far this is the only error we get that shows a problem exists.
Is anyone else also having the lockup problem?

Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software. -
Error "Status change from READY to COMMITTED is not allowed"
Dear experts,
once again SAPs workflow environment drives me crazy with mysterious error messages.
Some time ago I posted a question here concerning the problem that I cannot put back a workitem by using function module SAP_WAPI_PUT_BACK_WORKITEM due to a lock on this workitem which has been set right after it has been double clicked in the business workplace workflow inbox:
[How can I put back a workitem before I'm back in the business workplace?;
Since I do not want to dequeue the lock for the workitem in my application (where the user finds the appropriate detail information along with the function buttons for approval, rejection and F3/BACK) I tried it with calling a POPUP_TO_CONFIRM ("Do you want to put back the workitem?") directly from within the BO-method, right after returning from the FM that called my application. From here (the popup then shows in front of the business workplace instead of the application) the locking doesn't seem to be a problem any more! But whatever I do after the users decision to put the WI back - calling the FM SAP_WAPI_PUT_BACK_WORKITEM or trying to leave the method with macro EXIT_CANCELLED - leads to the error message "Status change from READY to COMMITTED is not allowed" and the workitem changes to status ERROR, too. This message seems to be bull***t, since the status of the item is supposed to go back to READY.
Does anybody have experience to help me on that ?
Thanks in advance
regards
AndreasHello Andreas,
Ah, sorry, there was so much talk about user decisions that I assumed you were using a standard decision task.
Still, I would be extra careful of changing the way workflow usually works because you have an unknown target audience that are based on the standard.
The standard SAP philosophy is quite simple: cancel/F3 or do nothing and it stays reserved. If you do not want it reserved, you need to perform an action. This is based on a majority of processes: in most cases when you execute a work item you will also be the one who is going to completed it. Replacing it is the lesser used of the two alternatives, therefore it is the only one that requires an action on the part of the user.
Again, this is intended as constructive input. Strange quirks and unusual behaviour tend to add a black mark to software if they do not make things easier to use. In many environments users are not even aware of the reserve/replace business, so there you would be adding an additional layer of complexity.
Personally I would find an exit popup annoying as a regular workflow user - regular decisions can be approved with one click, or I can back out with a single click if I need to make a phone call or look up some info before approving - but with this new-fangled thing I've got an extra button to click and an extra thing to think about. This is especially the case in a payment approval scenario where you may have users in some departments who may approve hundreds of payments each week.
My suggestion would be to leave it like that. By all means put an option into the user decision to put it back or to 'un-reserve' it (and loop round if the user chooses it). That way you are adding value and not clicks.
Cheers,
Mike -
It's a fact: my Windows PC doesn't freeze/crash as much as my MacBook does.
Just now my new MacBook froze up on me for the fith time in three weeks. Here's what happens: I shut down my MacBook the same way I always do, and then I close my MacBook's lid. I come back later to use my MacBook and realize that the "sleep light" is lit up. I open the lid and the sleep light fades away. I press keys and nothing happens, I move my finger across the trackpad and nothing happens, I press my clicker below the trackpad and nothing happens, I press and even hold the power button and nothing happens. I check the battery by clicking the battery button on the back of my MacBook each time, and never has it indicated that my battery was low (never has less than two out of five dots lit up). So the battery is not the problem here.
How I eventually get the laptop to start up is different every time. In the past pressing the keys over and over for a few mins seems to do the trick. Or holding power for a really, really long time. Today it didn't turn on until I held "option" and pressed power. Then I finally got a response, and my MacBook started up again.
And every single time I get the same message: "The computer was restarted after Mac OS X quit unexpectedly." I click "report" for more information and nothing ever pops up. Pity.
My guess is that when I try to shut down my MacBook, it occasionally doesn't shut down, for some reason. I'm guessing that the MacBook freezes up and goes into a deep-sleep mode or something... even though the screen turns black like it normally does after I shut down my MacBook. So then I walk away thinking my MacBook is shut down when in all reality it's semi-awake. It's irritating.
So that's mu dillema. My MacBook doesn't turn on... or perhaps it just never turns off. Because if it was fully off, there wouldn't be a problem turning it on. Haha.
Why is my MacBook doing this? Why can't it just shut down without a problem? What could be causing my MacBook to crash/freeze up at shut down like this?
All help is greatly appreciated!
MacBook 2.0Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.6)Take your battery out and reset your PMU.

Next time you shut down, wait until the computer is totally shut down -- i.e., make sure you don't hear your fan running, the screen is black and that the light is out on the front of the computer -- before you close the lid.
I had that exact thing happen once, and since I done the above, it's never happened since.

How can I start up my macbook without using the power button ?
Hi guys,
I think my macbook's keyboard/trackpad/power have died. I was wondering if there's anyway to start up my macbook without the power button, I was thinking about an external keyboard that would hae a power button on it, I don't know ...
I have not used my Macbook for the past 4 days and i think it's making me sick ...
Thanks !hey,
So i bought a G3 keyboard with the power button and i just received it but my macbook still doesn't want to start up.
It's pretty strange because my macbook was still running when the top case died and I had to unplug it cause i couldn't shut it down so I was sure that buying this keyboard would make it work but it doesn't. I am wondering if it could be from the power button that would be died cause when i push it, it doesn't feel like the one on my macbook . It's pretty hard to explain but could someone tell my how it supposed to be when i push the power button . On my keyboard it just goes down and goes up without doing anything...
I'm pretty sad cause I haven't used my macbook for weeks and i'm started thinking it will never start up again ...
Thanks -

MacBook Unibody A1342 no power after water damage to logic board
Ive sustained damage to my logic board after water damage. Can anyone tell me if it can be repaired or what the parts which have fallen off do(looks like 2 tiny capacitors?) . Magsafe has green light and battery charges but machine shows no other life signs. any help would be most appreciated thanks@CoccoBorg:
I need your help, please. I spilled wine on my mid 2009 unibody macbook pro, now when I power up I see Hard drive light On, I hear fan noise, but don't hear any startup Apple chime and nothing on display, I cleaned the logic board with 91% alcohol, but that didn't change anything. Before cleaning the logicboard, their were no signs of wine on the logicboard, but there was a lot of wine on the keyboard black sheet.
My guess is:
1. The keyboard might be causing this behaiour, I wan't to bypass the keyboard, can you please confirm if these are the right power pads on logicboard?

2. You mentioned something about fuses, where will I find them on logic board?
3. Any othe suggestions will be highly appreciated.
