MacBook GMA X3100 Card in XP

I have a MacBook 10.5.2 with a Bootcamp partition which is all working well. The only issue is that the video/graphics in XP are awful - just fuzzy!
Right clicked on the desktop and changed the screen resolution and still no joy - I only have two options by the way. In the control panel it seems that the Video Card does not have the correct drivers and after hours of searching Apple's site and others I'm at a lot on how to fix this.
Any clues? LIke where I can find/install the drivers from?

Found what I wanted on Intel's website.

What do you mean by "can't handle it"? What happens?
How much RAM is in your machine? Are any processes consuming a high amount of CPU when you do these things? You can open up Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) to check this. Make sure "All Processes" are being shown (the option is in the upper-right corner) and sort by %CPU. Are any processes consuming high double digit CPU?

  • Connecting Macbook (GMA X3100) to a 16:9 display

    Hi everyone
Looking to buy a 20" external monitor but not sure if my MacBook (late 2007 with GMA X3100 graphics) will output at 1600 x 900 (all monitors now seem to 16:9 rather than 16:10)?
I know the max resolution for this graphics card is 1600 x 1050 - does anyone have a similar setup?
    Thanks!

1600 x 900 shouldn't be any problem for the MacBook as long as the connected monitor has an EDID with that resolution listed inside of it. EDID is display driver data that is contained inside modern computer monitors. A Mac reads the EDID and self-configures its video output according to what it reads. This is also sometimes called "plug and display", which the Mac architecture supports very well.

  • Gma x3100 card with world of warcraft

hello i play world of warcraft with the gma x3100 and sometimes on the screen there is graphic issues with weird colors appearing. many people that play with this card has the same problem i was wondering if anyone has came with a solution to help this problem or if there is anything you can do to help

I've also been having this problem, and it has only been happening until recent. As the original poster said, it only happens when I am using World of Warcraft, and I'm worried about the computer damaging because of the amount of force shut downs I have to do.
I've even ran an ASD (Apple Service Diagnostic) for 9 or so hours without any problem showing up there.

  • If u have recent 2.2GHz SR-Black Macbook w/ x3100 card

can u confirm if your macbook does what mine does.
when i try to use one of the new iTunes visualizers after about 20 seconds it freezes briefly and then works fine, and photobooth is extraordinarily "slow".

Yeah PhotoBooth is defo laggy and slow especially when toggling between effects. iTunes visualizer is smooth for me however.
I guess PhotoBooth is a GPU intensive app even more so in Leopard and the MacBook is lacking either in proper drivers or in the GMA X3100 overall.
PS i have 2GB of memory.
PS 2 Safari seems to crash pretty frequently too

  • GMA X3100 Macbook-Should I upgrade to Snow Leopard?

I've read all kinds of horror stories about this Graphics Card GMA X3100 and Snow Leopard. I see that SL doesn't support it. I'm running ok on 10.5.8.
Should I upgrade or not? I'm mostly doing audio in Logic Pro and will be doing more HD video in iMovie for YouTube etc.
I like to hook up an older monitor to mirror my Macbook's. I've read where people have had problems with this after upgrading from 10.5 to 10.6.
Should I stay on 10.5 or will I get any benefit from 10.6? I'd like to get as close to up to date as possible if it'll be good for me. Thanks!

  • GMA X3100 graphics card.

    I was just wondering,
I want to buy the Sims 2 game for Mac, but it says i require a Radeon 9000 graphics card or better or a GeForce FX5200 graphics card or better. I currently own a MacBook with a GMA X3100 graphics card. I want to know if the Sims game will work with my current graphics card, as I already found out that Need For Speed Carbon wont work with it. I would also like to know if it will work with Leopard, as I recently upgraded.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi MacDeejay!
I was able to get Sims 2 running on my MacBook with the X3100 card without any major issues. I found that I needed to turn my graphics settings to low or else the more that began to appear on the screen things would slow down dramatically. Occasionally I'd get some odd rendering as some shaders and color combinations would take longer to load than others. I'd imagine the game to run extremely well on the MacBook Pro but it certainly runs on the MacBook.
It is listed on Intel's site for compatible games for the X3100 as well...

  • Black Macbook, Solidworks, GMA X3100 ?

Ok, for the first time I am regretting buying this black macbook! I am looking to run solidworks 09 on my Macbook using bootcamp an XP pro, but I am having trouble getting a clear answer on whether or not solidworks 09 will run adequately with the GMA X3100 video card. Solidworks says it is not supported, but I would like to know if anybody has actually tried it, and if so, the results?
    Thank you

  • Is the new GMA X3100 144 MB with 4 GB RAM better than 128 MB video card?

    Hello,
I am trying to decide on buying the new MacBook with the GMA X3100 video card or an older MacBook Pro with 128 MB video card, or possibly even the 256 MB video card if I can find a good deal.
I was thinking if I put 4 GB of ram in the new MacBook the shared memory would be fine and I would get some good usage out of the computer.
I will be using this computer for Adobe CS3 Web PRemium, photoshop, dreamweaver etc.
I also want to use Final Cut Studio 2 on this computer, and I know that it will not work as efficiently as my iMac 2.4 with 4 GB ram with 256 MB video card, but I mostly want to work on Motion videos and a little final cut pro 6 editing.
So, what are your thoughts guys? I have looked through the forums and haven't found the exact information I am looking for.
Any information you need from me?

Anyone else have experience with this topic?
I am looking for tests done or some other form of information. I have been searching for benchmarking tests with no luck for my question of 4 GB of RAM on new 2.2 ghz macbook with 144 mb shared video card compared to macbook pro with 128 or 256 video card separate.

  • Gma X3100 graphic card

    Hello everyone,
I recently purchased an external monitor (Dell ST2220L, with VGA, DVI D and HDMI plugs) to use with my macbook early 2008 (in Snowleopard 10.6.8) which has the Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor.
My professionnal PC, has an Intel HD family graphics processor and works fine with this new monitor (be it in VGA, DVI D or HDMI)
However, for some reason, with my Macbook, only the VGA connector (via mini dvi to vga adaptor) works.
When I plug the monitor via DVI (and via the mini dvi to dvi adapter) to the mac, the screen shows the message : "Entering power save mode" and goes into power save mode.
I have read and tried the solutions mentionned on pretty much on every related webforum (esp here / i wanted to add a message to that thread but it's been archived) :
    resetting PRAM
    resetting SMC
    lowering MB screen light
disactivating any monitor option related to power save mode
    selecting and unselecting Mirror display
using the software InsomniaX to prevent my MB from having power sleep options turned on...
    but nothing works.
now i'm running out of ideas, and especially I'm starting to wonder if it's not a graphics processor driver problem or a problem linked to v10.6.8 as I have already successfully plugged my MB via DVI to an external monitor (not dell tho') in the past.
It's frustrating to have to use VGA when you bought the screen to use with DVI or HDMI.
Thank you very much if anyone has an idea of what could be wrong !
    All the best

If you have a PC and the generic software that comes with the camera you can as well.
If iMovie 08 can import high definition video can it not output it on its own as AVCHD (AVC/H.264 - MPEG4) to DVD?

  • GMA X3100 vs. GMA 950

I got 2 MacBooks, the mid 2007 and the late 2007.
The mid 2007 got an Intel GMA 950 video card with 64 MB.
The late 2007 got an Intel GMA X3100 video card with 144 MB.
The graphics, Exposé, video, open GL tests look smooth & nice on GMA 950 (64 MB).
However, on the newer GMA X3100, the graphics look slow, including the screensaver, even the mac waiting cursor looks a bit slow.
I went to Best Buy to check if the other mac did the same, and they did.
What do you think? Just a driver issue, or what is going on, GMA X3100 was supposed to be better, ironically, it works better in bootcamp than GMA 950, but not in Leopard.

There's two things you can do:
    1. Submit the issue(s) via the feedback link for the MacBook which will be directed to the appropriate parties within Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html
You won't get a response, so if you're looking to troubleshoot the issue or send the machine in for repair than you'd need to go the route of AppleCare.
    2. If both machines are less than a year old (they sound like it), you'd qualify for the one-year limited hardware warranty. If you choose not to buy AppleCare on your machine and it's older than 90-days you would be subject to a nominal fee to speak with an AppleCare technician for your specific issue.

  • Radeon 9000 vs Intel GMA X3100 graphics

    which is better Radeon 9000
    or the intel GMA x3100
    graphics card
because i want to play sims 2 on a new macbook
    thanks

    Good morning,
Well, this is not an easy, clear cut question. The Radeon is an old, out of date card however it does have a dedicated GPU and Memory on board. The 3100 is an integrated chip with shared system memory, however, it is much newer and up to date.
I'd put my money on the 3100 myself, however, neither is really up to the task of playing The Sims 2 in my opinion, that game (on the PC) taxed my CoreDuo with a GeForce 7900GT. :P
    Hope this helps! 

  • Will Diablo 2 work in bootcamp or parallels with the Intel GMA X3100?

I have the Intel GMA X3100 graphics card on my new macbook which seems to be incompatible with Diablo 2. Usually you have to install a beta copy to run it, which is incompatible with Battle.net. If I install parallels or boot camp, will I be able to play Diablo 2 on battle.net?

You need to use the Diablo II native installer.
    http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20758
So, you download it, run it, and it will ask you to insert your play discs.
But for myself that didn't work. The game was originally written for OS 9 so it seems to have issues I think.
If that native installer doesn't work then you can install windows on boot camp. All you need is a copy of XP SP2 disc or Vista SP1. Then you can run the boot camp utility (That will create disc space for windows, or called partitioning). I would recommend running any games in boot camp than parallels/VMware fusion. In virtualization(What parallels/VMware does) you're running windows on top of OS X, which eats up a lot more hardware resources.

  • GMA X3100 Driver!!!

Hello everybody. Sorry for my english but i'm italian.
Will Apple never release a decent driver for the gma x3100? From mac os x 10.5.2 they never update the driver i think. This video card go really bad. Expose and the other 2 animation go extremely slow and at low fps. I have a macmin with a video card with 32mb and the animation here go very very better than the macbook with the gma x3100. I also tried to install windows via bootcamp and intel release a driver update for this video card on march 2009 and under windows the gmax3100 is extremely better than under mac os x! I can play game with no problem. Is it possible that apple dosen't know that the leopard driver for this card thay have problems? I can't believe that i have spent 1300$ for a computer that it does not succeed to manage the animations neither 2d?

i reinstall the system many times and also change the mainboard but at the end the problem is not the video card, is the driver of leopard! I have bought macbook the past year therefore I cannot be afforded to change it!
How do you can say that yours is ok? all people that have this video card knows that the leopard driver have problem. Some people find a terminal command that deactive windowsserver isync and the 2d animation goese better but is incredible that one person that buy a 1200$'s macbook it must insert terminal commands in order to make to work a video card well. Is amazing! I have a macmini and an imac also. i am a satisfied mac user from many years but this time with this macbook apple it is disappointing to me. Or maybe are an intel problem tthat it does not make driver for mac but it makes them only for windows and linux.

  • GMA 950 vs GMA X3100

I am trying to decide on which MacBook to get (new for referb). How does the GMA 950 differ from the GMA X3100? I know the GMA X3100 using more memory (not a problem I plan maxing out the memory on the machine. Just wondering if the GMA X3100 is faster or what.

I actually watched a video cast put out by Intel about their new graphics chips. They are a big step forward to what they have had in the past. Do they compete directly with ATI or Nvidia? NO
Are they capable of playing some games? Yes Can they play the latest high resolution games? NO
Let's face it. You cannot make a onboard chip using onboard memory perform like a $500 ATI or Nvidia
graphics card with dedicated memory! Their is no CHEAP FIX!!! After all Apple is not on the top of any game softwares list of systems to write for. Most games are written for Windows machines and high end machines at that! True gamer's they know will spend hundreds of dollars keeping up with the latest graphics cards. Laptops of any brand are not good gaming machines because they cannot be upgraded easily.
