  • Macbook Pro running slow and getting hot very quick

So I own a macbook pro, and i bought it last november. Lately its been running really slow, and it gets hot really quickly.
when i go to look at my storage, it says i have 435.14 GB free out of 499.25 GB so i dont think space is an issue.
What can i do to fix this? I can't get on my macbook for longer than 10 minutues without it getting hot, and it takes me forever to load pages, etc.
It's still fairly new so i dont see why i would be having problems already. I only really use it for school and some misc web surfing. can someone help me out please!

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple tech support.  Let them deal w/it.

Red doesn't necessarily mean anything in particular, and preparation for selling a Mac is not really an appropriate use for EtreCheck. The Mac has to be erased and restored to its original configuration. It cannot be sold in its present configuration, not without violating its licensing agreements and annoying the buyer too.
Your early 2011 MBP probably shipped with discs. If it did, you will absolutely, positively need them.
To correctly sell or transfer ownership of a Mac, even to someone in your family, you should follow these instructions.
Disregard anything you are unable to accomplish.
Refer to What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
If you enabled FileVault, disable it in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
"Deauthorize" your iTunes account. Same for Audible if you have one.
System Preferences > iCloud > de-select "Back to My Mac" and "Find my Mac".
Sign out of iCloud. Select "Delete from Mac" when it appears.
Next: Remove all your personal information by completely erasing the Mac's internal storage.
If your Mac shipped with a grey System Install DVD, start your Mac with that disc inserted in the optical drive while holding the c key to boot from it instead of its internal volume, which should be erased before selling it.
If your Mac did not ship with discs, boot OS X Internet Recovery:
using three fingers press and hold the following keys: ⌘(command), option, and R.
With a fourth finger press the power button to turn on the Mac.
Keep the other three fingers where they are until you see the "spinning globe" icon.
This method forces the Mac to download its originally installed OS from Apple's servers, which will not require an Apple ID to install.
Remove any Open Firmware password if you created one: select Firmware Password Utility from the Utilities menu and remove it.
Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Remove any partitions you may have created.
Select the Mac's hard disk icon, then select the "Erase" tab.
Select the "Security Options" button and erase the disk.
The more "securely" you erase the disk, the longer it will take.
The fastest method is sufficient since all but the most expensive techniques and equipment will be able to recover securely erased data.
When it finishes, quit Disk Utility.
Select Install Mac OS X from the Utilities menu.
An Apple ID will not be required. If a prompt for an Apple ID appears, return to Step 5.
Do not create any user accounts.
When it finishes, shut down the computer.
If you want to install the bundled apps that were included with your Mac, restart by using your Applications DVD if one was included, and install the bundled apps. Apps bundled with newer Macs that shipped without discs cannot be transferred. Its new owner must purchase them from the Mac App Store using his or her own Apple ID.
If the Mac is being sold to someone outside the family consider the following additional information:
System Install DVDs that came with your Mac should remain with it forever, and must be included with the sale.
Consider including your AppleCare certificate if you bought it, printed documentation, even the box if you still have it. AppleCare stays with the equipment and is transferable.
Execute a bill of sale showing the Mac's serial number.
Once no longer in your possession, remove the Mac from your devices in My Support Profile.

  • Macbook Pro Running Slow and Very Hot!!

I took my Macbook to the Apple store and they analysed it and said that there was no problem with the actual Macbook and they updated the software.  It is still running very slow and really hot.  They cost alot of money and am really not happy with this happening after just two years of having it.

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple tech support.  Let them deal w/it.

  • Macbook Air runs slow and very hot!

The lastest version of MBA (2010), suddenly the fan runs and hot, then every programs are working slowly. Everytime, click something, the rainbow circle mark shows up and spins.
I tried to cool the fan off using cooling fan (connected MBA), my brother has same one, he is doing same thing one week before.
I am living in Powell River, I called to centre, they recommended me that I should visit one of Apple center. But then I have to trip at least one day.
I read all stuffs in this commuities...but still I couldn't get answers.
Could you somebody who is expert about this, help me please.
I didn't download Lion of new version. I bought this last year in December...so it is really new one.
Typing is okay...but when I tried to open one of all programs...every time it takes so long, and sometimes freezing.
    And the fan is running...heat.
Start up is okay, thought a little slower than three days ago.

    Try this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Resetting PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Also, download and run this Utiliy:

Computer is slow and gets hot. What could be the problem?

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Boot into Safe Mode and do the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

mac book pro running slow and getting pop ups

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

why is my MacBook Air running slow and I bought the 11 inch with all memory and turbo boost

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • My MacBook is running slow and freezes

My MacBook is running slow and freezes.

If this started happening without your having made any changes and without a warning of low disk space, then it's likely that the startup drive, or some other hardware component, is failing. Back up all data immediately, then make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.

  • My macbook is running slow and i wanted to know which SSD is compatible for a 2009 model macbook pro??

my macbook is running slow and i wanted to know which SSD is compatible for a 2009 model macbook pro??

    GitongaKuria,
several people here use Crucial, OWC and Samsung SSDs. I have a Samsung 840 PRO SATA III SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and your 2009 model and my 2010 model both have SATA II interfaces — these brands of SATA III SSDs (at minimum) work well in MacBook Pros with SATA II interfaces. In the case of the Samsung 840 EVO SSD, make sure that you visit the Samsung SSD firmware page to download and install its latest firmware.

  • My Macbook pro from 2010 is running slow and extremely hot. What can I do to get it running better again?

I have a 4 year old macbook pro that is not running very well. It heats up quickly and becomes so hot you can hardly touch the bottom. It is also running slow and has been freezing more lately. What can I do to get to running better again?

When that is happening run this to see what is running and then copy and paste the results here:

  • MacBook Pro running slow and freezing--Installed OnyX

I am having problems with my MacBook Pro. For a while I was using Safari and getting the beachball A LOT. So, I switched to Chrome. For the past two days it has been running slow and freezing...when typing it would freeze and a few seconds later it would resume and the letters I typed would appear. After reading forums, I did the repair disk permissions. Nothing changed. I downloaded OnyX. After executing two tasks under cleaning..I believe System and User, it is already running better and hasn't froze once. My question is...which tasks should I perform on OnyX? I read somewhere that not all of them should be done. Like I said, I only did 2 and then stopped. I'm kind of over my head and don't want to screw anything up or do anything that doesn't need to be done. Any help would be appreciated.

  • MacBook Pro running slow and lagging during app switches/start

I mean, it's really getting bad. I have to force quit repeatedly and then by some miracle - something takes and the program opens. Most of the time this happens with Photoshop and Firefox (which is what I use most often). PS does not have a bunch of add-ons running or installed. It's pretty much CS3 factory.
I ran Disk Utility yesterday - during the verify disc, it told me to boot from the install disc to fix the 2 errors it found. I backed everything up and I did. Ran all the verifies and repairs from the start disc.
Still running slow and by this I mean when I open an application it takes a ridiculously long time to open the double-clicked document or just the program itself to get to a new doc. I noticed it again this morning with Excel (which is something I don't usually leave open and running).
What else I have done, which helped but just a smidgen ... was to remove all the extra fonts (and I did have thousands) in Font Book. I also removed Font Book entirely because it was another program that was locking up and needing force quit all the time ... and I just plain don't like it. So I installed Suitcase Fusion and only have the bare minimum needed in there (which kind of bothers me since I am used to have thousands on hand that just need to be turned on or off - yes I know, I keep them all off unless they are absolutely needed). But I only have one set in the Suitcase (42 font family).
I got my laptop in Feb ... so this painfully slow and lagging stuff shouldn't be happening. It used to work great. I could have all the apps open, flipping between them, really getting things done.
    Here's my comp info:
    Version 10.6.4
Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    HD: 500gb but I have 345gb free
Any obvious things I am overlooking? Any suggestions on how to get this fairly new thing back up to speed?
    Thanks!

    HI,

  • HT2353 Macbook Pro running slow and freezing

So it just started yesterday running slow and freezing. I'm starting to get very frustrated. I research to see what could be the problem. I saw people suggesting that it could be the storage. My storage is 464.75 free out of 499.25. I just brought this computer last year on christmas. I thought it could be adblock but it never cause me problems but I paused the app and it still doesn't work. What is wrong? Should I restart the computer? If I do how can I backup my things? Also i'm really not a computer person so if you can describe to me the problem in layman terms that'll be great!

    Hello,
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?
